Vindolanda Tablets

Thanks for the GA review. I am working on improving the article. As regards the issue of whether objects should be displayed near where they are found, I think that this generates more discussion in the UK than one might suppose; however, I appreciate that looking at the issue from outside the country, it pales into insignificance compared to the controversy over the Elgin marbles, for example.--Alan (talk) 13:33, 25 February 2011 (UTC)--Alan (talk) 13:33, 25 February 2011 (UTC)

• I have put in something about regional sensitivities. Thanks also for highlighting the point about how official the documents are - I will read up on this too. There was a clear contradiction in the article as submitted for review. I've been to Vindolanda (very interesting place), but I´m not really up to speed on the literature (probably one reason why the article wasn't GA standard). Alan (talk) 19:04, 25 February 2011 (UTC)
• I think the article is better now. Perhaps Fæ or someone else who is good at using library resources, can further check sourcing. I don't live near a good library and I can't at present throw any light on the copy & paste issue which you raised in your review. Alan (talk) 13:46, 28 February 2011 (UTC)
  • I have all the sources to hand right now (a pile of 10 books) but could see the improvements going on and so was letting that happen first before taking a second look, it seems stable right now so I was planning on spending some time on it today and will drop a note back here if I think the GA points are ready to re-review. The Vindolanda parent article is a bit sparse and I can recommend searching the library for "Vindolanda", Robin Birley (2009) ISBN 9781848682108 or the smaller guide "Vindolanda's Treasures", Robin Birley (2008) ISBN 9781873136492 in order to at least add a summary of key finds. My interest is focussed on the tablets as part of my GLAM/BM contributions so I'm trying to avoid taking on all the related articles. Once the article gets to GA class, I am planning on writing to the Oxford research team to ask if they can fully release at least one of the infra-red images to illustrate the article (they are currently only available on a non-commercial basis) and they may have further comments for improvement from an expert perspective. Y I have done the basics needed to address your original comments in the GA review. I am looking at the sources thinking about adding more to the article such as extending the highlights section and adding information on the more recent use of the images for digital research but these feel like ongoing improvement rather than an issue for GA and I shall revisit these sections over the next few days. • My !vote is already a Support. However, the changes that Snowmanradio are making are based on the content rather than format etc., and appear to be substantive. If a domain expert can show/argue that SR's changes are invalid, then that is the end of the story. If they are valid, however, then the process probably should continue....
