User:Okthisisweird edit

I responded to this users unblock request. It seems the user only action was to create a vanity article a few times past warnings. It seems that an indef warning was overboard. You noted the user was a troll in the block log, so perhaps you know something I do not? I have reduced this block to 24 hours, please explain to me if I am wrong. Thanks. HighInBC (Need help? Ask me) 02:02, 12 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

This user was also, if I remembered correctly, using a sockpuppet (the name of which I can't recall now) to remove CSD tags as well as attack those who placed CSD tags. However, if this user is willing to reform his/her ways, I'm not opposed to a WP:AGF unblock. Thanks for letting me know. --Nlu (talk) 05:19, 12 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

RMS Oceanic (1870) edit

Just curious why you reverted the addition of the link on this page. I checked the link and found it to be a detailed, informative article about Oceanic, and a good resource for folks wanting more information about the ship. Akradecki 16:34, 12 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

"inappropriate external link" edit

You stated the following:

Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did in Indian cuisine. Wikipedia is not a mere directory of links nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites with which you are affiliated, and links that exist to attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam policies for further explanations of links that are considered appropriate. If you feel the link should be added to the article, then please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it. See the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you."

While I appreciate the need to maintain a level of quality for Wikipedia, I disagree wholeheartedly with your removal of the link. As of the past 3 years I have developed a love of indian cuisine and have attempted to share it with others. Something that caused me some embarassment when starting out and trying indian food was that I had no idea how to pronounce the dishes' names. I recently remembered this fact and wondered if Wikipedia had any form of a "pronunciation guide" for indian cuisine. Sadly, I found none. Thus I scoured the net to find someone who had taken the time to record audio clips of proper pronunciation. I found the site and think it should be included under indian cuisine. it is appropriate, reasonably well designed, and seems to be maintained by a person with a love of indian cuisine.

The link I added was not added as either of the following

- "a directory of links" - it served a purpose very relevent to the page
- "advertising or promotion" - the page contains no advertising (as of this writing)

So, I guess please rescind your rescinding of my link addition.

Cheers, Chris —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 136.142.181.174 (talk) 16:36, 12 January 2007 (UTC).Reply

Please see WP:SPAM and WP:EL. I don't think what you added is appropriate under them. If you disagree, you are free to discuss on Talk:Indian cuisine. Try to convince the community. Wikipedia is a cooperative project, and if you get a consensus that it should be included, I won't stop it. --Nlu (talk) 17:15, 12 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Respectfully, see the following article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chana_masala

Scroll to the bottom of that Wiki article's "external links" (for further explanation of chana masala). That article links to a subsection of the page I linked to. Thus, either both are wrong or both are right. You may want to get rid of that link as well. Anyhoo, I have begun discussion about the possibility of including a pronunciation guide in the "discuss" section of the Cuisine of India page. I'll continue the discussion there.

Cheers, Chris

The fact that another article (or, for that matter, the same article) may contain spam is not a justification to add more spam. --Nlu (talk) 06:24, 13 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Job for a Cowboy edit

Hi, I see that you have recently deleted and protected the Job for a Cowboy page. I believe this to be quite unreasonable, as they are considerably famous, they are doing a world tour supporting Unearth. Recently, I requested for this page to be unprotected, following on from this I then requested that the page was creatd, via the WikiProject Metal. Noone objected and the page was created with veritable speed. Please consider reverting it back to the way it was before you protected it, or contact me if you wish to comment on anything I have mentioned etc. Thanks, AsicsTalk 21:21, 12 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

The article was validly deleted pursuant to a AfD discussion. If you wish to have it reintroduced, the proper avenue is to take the matter to WP:DRV. --Nlu (talk) 06:27, 13 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Comment from anonymous user edit

Hi, I was not being bias about Taiwan but simply stating the facts. Taiwan has never been part of China. Just because most of the population is from Chinese descent does not mean that Taiwan is part of China. If that was the case, Austria should be part of Germany, and Switzerland should be part of Germany, Italy, and France. Taiwan has belonged to the Dutch and Japanese, but never in its history has it been a part of China. Taiwan is its own country that has its own NATIONAL anthem and flag. Taiwan also has its own DEMOCRATIC government with a president (unlike China which is Communist). Don't call me bias when you're bias yourself. You state that Wikipedia desires its information to be neutral but go ahead calling me bias when I'm stating the facts, while you guys call Taiwan - "Republic of China". Don't you think that's bias? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.164.137.229 (talkcontribs)

Please see WP:NPOV and WP:MOS-ZH. --Nlu (talk) 06:30, 13 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
Also see Wikipedia:Naming conventions (Chinese) (although that guideline is itself currently being debated on whether it is truly neutral). In any case, however, it is not Wikipedia's place to take a position as to whether Taiwan is/is not or should/should not be a part of China. --Nlu (talk) 06:34, 13 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Deleted Links edit

On the University of Arkansas board, you deleted our link to our Fan site, but left five others. You also deleted our link from other colleges in Arkansas we cover. Why are we being singled out? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Ermackey3 (talkcontribs) 19:31, 14 January 2007 (UTC).Reply

Because you were spamming a large number of articles, and the existence of other spam links does not justify adding another one. See WP:SPAM and WP:EL. I can't chase down every single spam link to delete it. --Nlu (talk) 21:37, 14 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

With all due respect, all but two were directly related to the site. Two of them I can go with the "Spam" definition. However, our fan site also includes alumni and fans from the other Arkansas Colleges I posted the external link to as well. What do I need to do in order not to be singled out as "Spam". —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ermackey3 (talkcontribs)

Again, see WP:SPAM and WP:EL. If you disagree with my call on this, try to convince the community otherwise by going to Talk:University of Arkansas. Wikipedia works by consensus, and if the community disagrees with me, I can't and won't interfere with its wishes. --Nlu (talk) 21:48, 14 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Well, I hope you delete the others that exist on this board. Almost all of the external links are fan sites. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ermackey3 (talkcontribs)

I recognize that this is a school address and may represent several users, but looking at the history there are 300+ edits, and all appear to be obvious vandalism (I checked about 30 at random, and none have any summaries). It seems like it's entirely justified to stop wasting everyone's time and permanently block this address until someone who wants to make constructive edits asks to unblock it. KarlM 00:16, 15 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

There is a policy not to indefinitely block IP addresses -- because even the non-shared IPs eventually get reassigned at some point. I didn't make the policy, but I follow it. --Nlu (talk) 02:01, 15 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

GFDL letter? Chen Jian Nian/Puldull? edit

Hi,

Did you find a GFDL letter on the Chinese wiki?

I also have another question. Sorry to be a bother. Is there an article on the Chinese wiki about Chen Jian Nian/Puldull, a Puyuma and winner of the 2003 Golden Melody Award for Best New Artist?

Thanks --Ling.Nut 01:40, 15 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

I looked around for a winners' list of the 2003 awards, and this site gave a different person for the winner (許慧欣). As someone who doesn't really follow the Taiwanese/Chinese music scene, I don't know how to find an article for him/her. --Nlu (talk) 02:06, 15 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

And where is your source for this? Nothing in Zizhi Tongjian, Old Book of Tang, or New Book of Tang that I can see supports that either he got there or that your correspondence to modern local location is right. Wikipedia requires verifiable sources, and popular novels, if that's where you found your information, are not verifiable or reliable sources. --Nlu (talk) 16:47, 16 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
Indeed, this passage in New Book of Tang, if correct (and there is no reason to doubt that it was correct given that Ouyang Xiu had no reason to manufacturer it), pretty much disproves it:
詔集戰骸葬柳城,祭以太牢,帝臨哭,從臣皆流涕。 帝總飛騎入臨渝關,皇太子迎道左。
If he were under attack, there was no way that he would have allowed the Crown Prince (the later Emperor Gaozong of Tang) to meet him at Linyu Pass. Further, if he were under attack, he wouldn't have taken the time to carry out a ceremonial mourning. --Nlu (talk) 16:53, 16 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Nlu, hi. Could you please do something with this superfluous page, as the content has also been duplicated; it is found at the "Bling (Confession of a King)" wiki-article, and there is no other "Bling (Confession of a King)" article, so the (The Killers song) is rather redundant. Campaigns against Goguryeo edit

Hello again Nlu, I come ask your opinion about the Goguryeo-"Sui" Wars. I added the Tang capaigns, because, from what I have read in The Cambridge history of China, I think the Tang campaigns are the end of the unfinished Sui campaings. But the user OpieN revert any adding of Tang campaings and move of the article. I think OpieN is pro korean, and want to keep "several chinese campaigns, korean final victory".

In your opinion : Sui's and Tang's campaigns should they be in the same article ?

I was forced to make a new article China-Goguryeo wars, but it's because Opien revert edits moving the tang campaigns on the end of Sui's campaign. see also : talk:Goguryeo-Sui_Wars

--Yug (talk) 23:48, 20 January 2007 (UTC) <sorry for my english, it should have some mistakes> Italic textReply

In my own opinion, Tang campaigns were not continuations of the Sui campaigns. They had different causes, were fought differently, and were also decades apart in time. I do not believe it unreasonable at all for them to be in two separate articles. My recommendation is to have a separate article of Goguryeo-Tang Wars. --Nlu (talk) 00:11, 21 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

I don't think so. It's a shared IP, and there's no evidence that the prior vandalism's connected to the current vandalism. here... did you see the stub I put up on her, and if you know something about the era, I left a note on that Emperor's page regarding dates discrepancies, whether Tibet was actually tributary, or independent, etc. Songstem's article and the Emperor's text at the very least need clarified, though I have little hope for the dates. I asked a couple of wikipedians with better access to research library resources to look into it, but the span of years and tech level don't leave much of a glimmer from beneath their collective shrouds. Another thing you have to learn before you go to college is that the truth is rarely absolute. Is Goguryeo Korean, or Chinese? That all depends on how you define "Korean" and "Chinese." You have to define the parameters of your argument before you make them; otherwise, the argument loses context. You also have to be able to respect others' arguments as long as they are made logically; don't resort to insults, because insults don't persuade anyone but only demonstrate that you are not rational. Act like you have nothing to learn from others, and you'll never learn anything. --Nlu (talk) 22:36, 27 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
