Suggested coachee
Thank you for signing up for admin coaching. Given the lengthy backlog of applicants it is always helpful for skilled users to participate. Starting basically today I'm thinking of trying a new method out of me proposing someone to you and you contacting them, rather then the old method I was using of having the coachee contact the coach. I'd suggest User:Juliancolton. I'm seeing no blocks, good edit numbers, and some GA contributions. Feel free to review him yourself and contact him if you are interested in coaching him. If you'd like me to suggest someone else, let me know or stop by the queue and pick one yourself. New York City Meetup

In the afternoon, we will hold a session dedicated to meta:Wikimedia New York City activities, and have salon-style group discussions on Wikipedia and the other Wikimedia projects (see the last meeting's minutes).
Well also make preparations for our exciting Wikipedia Takes Manhattan event, a free content photography contest for Columbia University students planned for Friday March 28 (about 2 weeks after our meeting).
In the evening, we'll share dinner and chat at a local restaurant, and (weather permitting) hold a late-night astronomy event at Columbia's telescopes.

Red Tape Attitude
While you are reverting my edits, you conviently forget to revert edits to my sourced statements in the same article. When i revert some edit, it is undone as legitimate source, and when my edits are reverted, they are inflammatory, even though they are from the same source. Why the double standards? And i don't need to point you to all my claims, you are fully involved in the articles i contributed recently, and you can check the history. Articles need to have reliable sources to back up information. This is one of the criteria for notability. The article you pointed to me just briefly mentions Ratemycop.com (at the end). African towns
Hi DYK maestro. How are things. I noticed you created an articles two days ago on a village in the CAR. IThis is one of my aims on wikipedia is building up content on Africa geography. I would apprecaite you help in this area but in future can you add an infobox and find coordinates like I have done to Alindao. I'm currently going through every article on an African settlement and adding the realtive country locator etc. I did Guinea Bissau and Sierra Leone earlier. It is absolutely astounding how many places exist and how many thousands of notable places there are in these places which nobody knows anything at all about!!! I've just started Gbokopeteme linked from your article and the way I'm doing it is to work on specific areas at a time filling in nearby settlements in a chain effect. The best sites are maplandia.com or traveljournals.com combined with the MSN encarta map for detailed viewing of nearby settlements and falling rain which shows nearby settlements (this is accurate although I strictly avoid reading estimate dpopulation given on that site as it is most often very wrong!!. But I use thoose sites to confirm well enough that the location/name is accurate ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 21:09, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

- Incorrect. I was singled out for comment, which perceived as an attack. Granted, I didn't need to suggest he read a book (or even more aptly, the archive and mediation in question), and I didn't need to tell him that I tend to respond negatively to being personally attacked (wherein lies the comment about the potential for being "editorially botch-slapped" by me); such is pretty much a given.
As for the problems I pointed out in mediation with proposal #5, I had already pointed them out, and I am not really excited about the idea of repeating to myself, especially with someone who claims to have read the mediation and archives "carefully" when they quite clearly haven't and are arguing for a POV stance (re the preposterous idea that Arabian Gulf was manufactured less than 50 years ago, which screams POV). Its a waste of my time to argue to someone who isn't listening to the point I am making and is just using the time I am typing to figure out what they are going to say next. - Excuse me, but is it seriously your contention that the mediation failed to resolve anything because of my not continuing to argue a biased statement after I had already had done so not once but twice? That is preposterous. Perhaps you could take a moment to point out what the entire mediation was waiting upon, hinged upon my every word. I eagerly await the basis for what I feel to be a wildly inaccurate characterization of the mediation. While you put that together, allow me to point out that the mediation was populated by a great many who didn't want ANY mention of the Arabian Gulf, those who wanted to debilitate it to the point of non-mention by calling it a recent political creation, and then, those who felt that because it is mentioned in the article and that there is a significant article already in existence in the article that we have to follow the policies and guidelines of Wikipedia and include it. I belong to the latter group.
- And thanks for pointing out NPA - I know what the policy is. Don't for a moment think the Broom makes you any more aware of policy. I am not to blame for the article's ethnic/political polarization, and I am not to blame for the mediation's failure. - Last point first: I am aware of the tidbit you pointed out from NPA; as I felt the comment from Alexander was hostile and intended to single me out as the sole cause of the article's woe, which I - correctly - interpreted to be a personal attack. I am sorry that my repeated attempts to illuminate that interpretation have failed. I would point out that you seemed to become somewhat defensive when I said that your broom doesn't make you any more aware of policy - you reacted as if attacked. I guess the perception of being attacked extends beyond the obvious calling someone a 'ham-headed lout'. When someone singles you out for discrediting, it is an attack on your person, and it's uncivil, and non-conducive to collective discussion. Ergo, my justification for calling it a personal attack.
- As well, I see the request for further responses from me to a recalcitrant set of users in the mediation and the mediation stopping shortly thereafter as completely unrelated. Your perception aside, I asked Cloudnine repeatedly where we were in the mediation after stalled. The only response I received from him was his perception that the matter was insoluble, as too many people wanted to eliminate the possibility of mentioning the Arabian Gulf in the Lead completely for the mediation to bring about a satisfactory solution. That is why the mediation stopped - both sides saw no reason to continue, as they saw no give from the other side. Maybe you might wish to discuss the matter with Cloudnine before pinning the entirety of the mediation's failure on me - and quite simply, your claims connecting my failure to continue arguing and the mediation's stoppage approximate such an accusation. Forgive me for not giving it credence.
- And the info, by the way, I had provided. It was a researched comment from Jane's noting the existence of the term Arabian Gulf prior to Nasser's use of the term for pan-Arab purposes. Semi-protection of Thomas Crapper
Hello. I recently requested semi-protection of the article about Crapper, which was granted, but reverted by you. I agree that the WP-editors can easily handle the level of vandalism on this page (most, but not all vandalism is reverted in a matter of minutes), but my point was that the great majority of edits made to this article is vandalism or the reverting thereof. The burden of watching the article and keeping it vandalism-clean seems a bit too heavy for the benefit gained by not semiprotecting the article: very few anonymous editors make useful edits to this page. Do you think protection is only warranted if the level of vandalism is a lot higher than is the case here without considering the rest of the article's history? If that would be the case, is there some kind of watchlist or other solution for articles that don't receive a lot of edits, but with most of them vandalism? -- StevenDH (talk) 13:53, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
- Okay, thanks for the answer, I'll keep Thomas Crapper on my watchlist. But is there some sort of public watchlist for articles like this one, with a small number of edits per day which are likely to be vandalism? I would imagine that all recent changes to the articles go on the list and get removed if someone reviewed the changes as non-vandalism (or reverted them). Per your request I provided a detailed critique of user:Nikkul's poor edits in the lead, and I explained there that these were not simple cases of imperfect edits that other editors help improve, but rather repetitive edits even after others have pointed out the problems. user:Nikkul has also replaced all the Mumbai images with glossy pictures again; this too in spite of the discussion (initiated by Nichalp) on the India portal. User:Hnsampat is reverting edits to op blue star, as not being reliable. The same source , or critic, "Vir Sanghvi" , is used for citing some statements, in Bhindranwale article. Now if they go , it has to be from both articles. How can, an author's observation, remain in one article as reliable and not in another as not reliable. Kindly see and do the needful. Thanks, but except for a handful of edits, my contributions have largely been reverting vandalism. Yes, "Cooper vane" bugs me, too. I'm an attorney, so my take was to go to the FAA regulations and see if I could find the applicable regulation. I figured there's no better cite than the actual regulation. I couldn't, but I didn't expect to; my inability to find it does not mean it isn't there. The FAA is not going to call it a "Cooper vane" in the regulation, and my knowledge of aviation is not good enough to locate whatever it is actually called. Actually, I expect it's not in a regulation, as such. My expectation is that the regulation recites a requirement to comply with a specification of some sort, and the specification describes the device; but I can't be sure about that. - About "honest, intelligent"... See here and here for an exchange on that. Here is the crux of my argument: "'Nationalistic' by itself has a somewhat negative connotation (see my RfA for confirmation), but the first two adjectives clearly indicate the author's intention to portray Goumba in a positive light." Absolutely. Bokassa is fascinating, and deserves a nice, long, well-sourced article. Goumba's article is a good start but obviously could use improvement - I'd consult User:Everyking going forward on that one, since he's the author. Dacko too is pretty interesting and could use some finessing. I remember finding these guys interesting back when I wrote about Boganda, so whatever you come up with now I'd be glad to offer some input. Of course there's also central Africa outside the CAR - for instance, I've been eyeing Fulbert Youlou, another Catholic priest and president, for expansion. African projects
Well, before I say what we should do, let me say what we shouldn't - Félix Houphouët-Boigny and Léon M'ba, because I'll be translating them from French at some point and it would be unnecessary to duplicate their research. Why don't we go nice and slow... You keep working on Bokassa, publish what you've got, and I'll come by with some additional material. That's bound to be a big project. I for one will take Youlou. It won't be ready immediately, but within a couple of weeks I should have something (I have an obituary, plus some Google Books snippets). And then, likewise, you can come in and spruce it up. The issue I brought up is about someone that calls other countries non-historic, how is that not relevant to Wikipedia? Please read the link I provided once more. I am not a citizen of any of those countries mentioned, but I feel ashamed that people resort to these kind of language, belittling other people and cultures. - Give me a break. The context is clear and some of these countries I mentioned Kuwait, Oman and UAE etc. are non-historical and the others like the Caucus countries are weak (relative to their much larger neighbors). It was a discussion from 3 months ago on my talkpage. I can find google books reference for both of my claims. It was a discussion between me and another user, 3 months ago and trying to instigate Georgian and Armenian users against me will not work and is taking a battle ground mentality. Did I talk about Armenian Genocide or you just brought it out of the blue to instigate Armenian users against me? I am talking about modern political entities and not average citizens. There is no racism except the fact that you are trying to instigate other users based on ethnic background and it will not work. Your action to provoke me did not work and it backfired. I can't understand what is the need for such quotes. Also what is the need for describing him as anti- social. come on on this is an encyclopedia. Mahatama Gandhi has written ( rather confessed) in his autobiography-(my experiments with truth), that he went to brothels during his stay in london as a student of law, but did not have sex. - I have the book with me, but i cannot find it. I think someone borrowed and forgot to return! i will try and get it back, if it is not lost! Anyways, i want to tell you that i am not a big fan of Bhindranwale, i got interested in the article because of Sikhism tag. I also want to tell you that i am doin masters in peace studies. Can you believe it!! Any ways i think that the quotes from any person don't belong in any article ( i know i added some in some). Each and every person, saints, leaders, prophets and me and you ( maybe after 100 years) have critics and quotes that go against them in strong language. We should mention general history and refrain from highlighting strong quotes, they are afterall capable of altering the state of an article (slyly) without appearing to do so and reflect as a judgement, which a good historian never makes.If the quote has to be included, then we need the full quote and not a part of quote, as we won't know what tully really refered to and wanted the reader to knowAjjay (talk) 17:20, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

I only ask this because according to Prof. Jurgensmeyer, he believed they did indeed share the same ideological concepts and goals. If you can dig up the BBC documentary on Gandhi or the Sikhs, he does in fact describe the personalities and the events before and after Op Bluestar

Bio guideline question
Hi Nishkid64, I see you're a Bio Project admin, so perhaps you can answer a question of mine. Probably this has already been addressed, but I can't seem to find it in any of the docs or discussions. Namely, in instances when the name or country of a person's birthplace/death place has changed, how should it be listed? For example, a person was born in 1960 in "Leningrad, USSR" — now "St. Petersburg, Russia": my inclination is that the article Lead and Infobox should both state the person was born in "Leningrad USSR (now St. Petersburg, Russia)". I don't have any interaction with JacquesNguyen (talk · contribs), but was very startled to see her harsh personal attack to the editor who disagrees with her edit. You once blocked the user for her harassment on editors, so can have better judgment in this situation. Please take a look at the links, Thanks. Yep, both of those are wrong; can you go back and fix them? I can't tell what you meant to do, but what you've done is goofed up. Karanacs has done so much work already with Bernhard and Neely that I'm afraid you're going to get crossed up in content if you get ahead of her with other sources. Hey, Nishkid ... there's a status update here. Tony has made a first pass, and Maralia is going to go through next. I left queries on the talk page. At the end, we need a compelling lead, and I'm hoping The Fat Man Who Never Came Back (talk · contribs) (who has a wonderful way with a turn of a phrase) will come up with some hook for the lead that will make the reader think, "is this real, or are they pulling my leg".
