It's much to early to re-protect the article. Pages tend to get vandalized again after unprotection, but the point of Wikipedia is that it is a free encyclopedia that anyone can edit. I'd prefer if you would wait until you see some high vandalism levels before re-requesting page protection. Nishkid64 21:55, 7 February 2007 (UTC)

Questions

I have questions about adminship (when I wanted to become one in December). One, when do you reccomend a person becoming an admin? Two, if I try to nominate myself again, will I replace the old RfA? If you nominate yourself, you will have to make a new RfA page. If you want to withdraw your RfA, you leave a message at the RfA page, and use the appropriate templates to close and remove it from WP:RFA. Btw, I personally don't think you're ready for adminship now. You only have 526 edits, and most editors who pass RfAs have at least 2,500 or 3,000. I suggest going to WP:ER if you want a progress report done by other editors. Nishkid64 02:00, 8 February 2007 (UTC)

Thanks, it's a "pleasure" to have the article I started selected for "Did you know?" I'm glad someone is paying attention to these kinds of articles. One correction: the Gippeumjo wasn't started by Kim Il-sung himself but by one of the officials in his government (the name is in one of the sources; I can add this to the article). So it isn't quite accurate to say that it was established by Kim, but instead it was established during his administration, for his benefit. Badagnani 21:55, 7 February 2007 (UTC)

My last RfA/me

Hi Nishkid! You opposed my last RfA in late November 2006. There were opposes citing civility and inexperience with policy. It's about 3 months after that, and I think I've gained more experiance in policy and more emotional stability on-wiki. Recently I've been doing a bit of Wikipedia:WikiProject Spam stuff, though this last week I haven't had a great deal of time. Anyway, I was considering an RfA in a month or two, and I wanted to ask a few people if they had any recommendations as to what I should to or criticisms over the last few months. Thanks for reading! Word of thanks for Nishkid64 Good morning (GMT time); I'd like to thank you for supporting, opposing, taking a neutral stance to, closing, suggesting I close or otherwise contributing to my recent RfA; unfortunately, I felt that although there were more support than oppose votes, the weight of the latter was too great for me to accept the promotion with so many not trusting me with the janitor's trolley - I therefore decided to end my nomination prematurely. No, Nishkid64 made the correct decision in protecting the article. After months of being reverted by User:JereKrischel, often with your help (though I know you mean well), newbies have at last been able to sneak changes in to the article while User:JereKrischel is briefly blocked. If the article gets unprotected User:JereKrischel will immediately revert the small progress that has been made like he always does (and he knows he can always count on your support) and with the two of you so commited to keeping the article as it is, and with the two of you so dominant on the talk page, no new editors have the determination to penetrate the strangle hold you two have on the article. Now that progress has at last occured, the article needs to be protected long enough for User:JereKrischel to realize that the article is not just for those who are opposed to Rushton, and that he doesn't own the article. I'm sorry that Wantednewlook sees editing as something completely adversarial, but I have to agree that it is probably best to protect the article. Rushton supporters often come to Wikipedia with the sole purpose of editing Rushton articles in his favor (many of them from IPs in Canada, where Rushton teaches), and as newbies, don't quite understand that this is a collaborative effort, not a confrontational one. Neither Ramdrake nor I are committed to keeping the article in stasis, and I'm more than happy to engage in collaboration with pro-Rushton folk to help balance the article, but without the assumption of good faith on both sides, it is difficult to make progress. Thank you for protecting the article - I'll try to work on building some dialog with our new pro-Rushton editors, and maybe after some time we can come together and ask for unprotection jointly. --JereKrischel 09:57, 8 February 2007 (UTC)

The user has not been warned since January 31, 2007, so I cannot block the user as of now. I have left a t4 warning, and if the user vandalizes again, I will block.

Yeah, that was brought to my attention by Picaroon on IRC after I had created it. There were 6 items up at the RfD, and it appears only DYK was kept (thank god!). Adminship

About 3 months have passed since the failure of my last RfA, and I was wondering about nominating myself again. I've done the following to address your previous concerns:

• More than tripled my number of edits (I now have over 2,000, which I realise is still on the low side for an admin candidate, but it should give me a fighting chance).
• Regular recentchange patrolling to demonstrate my commitment to vandal fighting. I'm also fairly conscientious about warning vandals using the template, and have reported some vandals to AIV.
• Regular participation in AfDs, which has given me more understanding of deletion policy.

Do you think this is enough to give me a chance at RfA, and would you be prepared to support it? Walton monarchist89 18:22, 9 February 2007 (UTC)

Not that I am complaining or anything, but did I miss something? I step away from the computer for an hour and this article gets sprotected? I protected James Blunt on request at WP:RFPP. I saw that the article has been heavily vandalized (few dozen vandalism/vandalism revertions in the past few days). Ah, thanks for getting back to me so quickly. I suppose the recent spate of vandalism is related to the Grammy awards nominations and appearances, it should die down early Tuesday; though interestingly most of the vandalism has come from Cambridge University IPs. It never occurred to me to ask for sprotection since the article seems to be on the watchlists of quite a few people. Assassins Creed

I denied the protection request for Assassin's Creed because the article had not been that heavily vandalized. Semi-protection is usually a last-ditch effort to save an article, and I only semi-protect pages when I see that many of the last 50 edits have been vandalism/vandalism reversions and that it has occurred just in the past 5-6 days. The history of the last 50 edits goes back nearly two weeks, and not all of it is vandalism. If it gets much worse, then I will protect. Nishkid64 14:39, 11 February 2007 (UTC)

Advice

You have seen my log history, and it's not that great (although I disagree with all of them except for the one over Baby, since both of us deserved that block). I would like to be an admin eventually though, what would you suggest I do to improve my chances? My overall track record on Wikipedia is excellent and have been making great contributions for almost a year (my 1 year anniversary will be March 1), but those stains on my record would hurt me in a RfA. I think there is no way you could pass an RfA at the current time. People are very conscientious about a block record, and seeing that you were blocked just a week ago, you would definitely receive a ton of opposition. With your block log and history, I would suggest you wait at least 4-5 months before going for RfA. People need to see that you have improved your ways, and they shouldn't be seeing any recent blocks. Also, civility goes a long way. I know there are many accusations of your "article-controlling" and I'd appreciate it if you would assume good faith for some of these users, and discuss with them instead of reverting their edits. You should read WP:VANDALISM; some people complain against you because you write an edit summary like "rv vandalism", but it is just a good faith edit and nothing more. Calling someone's contributions can be slanderous to the person, and by doing so, we might end up losing a member of Wikipedia. So, basically I suggest you polish up your act for a few months before considering adminship here. Nishkid64 14:35, 11 February 2007 (UTC)

Hey, Nishkid64! I remember talking to you awhile back. I noticed that you opposed my RFA, and I respect that, given your answer. I have been involved in several "disputes," though none over an article that I had written. There's a few things I would do if such a situation ever came up. The first is stay cool, remain civil, and talk respectfully to the person I'm having the confict with. If we couldn't reach an agreement, I would either let him/her have their way, or I might come back in a week or two, hoping the user might have left watching the article. If that fails, and I simply cannot see the other's edit being anywhere near as benificial to the article as mine, I would seek mediation, though I would do everything in my power to avoid it. I know all of this explanation won't change your vote, but if I fail my RfA, perhaps this will help turn you towards a support in a future one. i've noticed you tend to approve prot requests as a preventitive measure, although WP:SEMI specifically states not to use it As a preemptive measure against vandalism before any vandalism has occurred. I don't mean to be rude, I just wanted to make you aware of this. WP protection should be saved for when vandalism actually happens, in the same way that you'd never block someone because you have a suspicion that they may vandalize an article in the future -- feb^talk 01:18, 12 February 2007 (UTC)

I am aware of Wikipedia policy, but can you show me some links of pages I protected in advance? You're making it seem like I approve preventative requests on the norm. Well, i'm just saying i've noticed it, I haven't taken down specific cases because they don't really relate to me, usually, and i'm not going to bother searching through archives for examples. I do respect the fact that you check RFPP, however I wanted to make sure you were aware of this.

One which I had worked on, Move-Prot on The Pillows, seems not only preemptive, but slightly offensive in the assumption that those of us who support the article being lowercase have no respect for WP policy and would revert or vandalize it because of the move, considering there has been NO such activity in the past -- feb^talk 01:29, 12 February 2007 (UTC)

I, and many others, deal move-protected requests differently than semi-protected requests. If I have seen that a name has been changed, and then consensus has been reached for an article title, then I will move-protect it. Also, protection policy says I can move-protect "during a page name dispute", which is clearly what happened for The Pillows. Nishkid64 01:36, 12 February 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for sticking up for me on Llama man's RFA, you were the only person there who understood what I meant about the editcountis, this being because you withdraw my RFA in early January (I think I knew it was going to fail just did not want to belive it. But that edit count suggestion was what was made on my failed RfA so that what I sugegsted and now I too believe that should be for normal edits, if a user had 1,500 edits and these were things such as major cleanup and writing feautred articles from scratch I could understand that though. Hi, another admin slapped a copyright violation on Equine nutrition and locked it down. It is now exiled to Talk:Equine nutrition/Temp‎ where I am sourcing it, it's maybe halfway there. Anyway, can you take a peek and see if we have sufficiently resolved the copyright issue to put the article back up? IMHO, I think a total lockdown was an overreaction, though in retrospect I probably could have footnoted as I went and probably avoided this whole thing....sigh.... Dreigen Uchiha

Greetings! Could you take a look at Dreigen Uchiha? I can't figure out what happened there. There's no indication that this was ever AfD'd correctly (no record of insertion of AfD-3 onto 2/14 list), but there are votes on the page itself! I think that the creator's last comment could be considered a "db-author", so it might be moot, but having the voting on the user page is just a little on the odd side! :) SkierRMH 20:16, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

Hi, I just noticed that you added a WP:DYK notice to User talk:Flameviper's talk page. You probably didn't know that he was recently community banned. It just appears a little unseemly for notices to be on his page like that. Although, I know this was absolutely not your intention, it could appear a little like taunting. Well, I didn't expect to see that coming. I hadn't heard from him, so I thought he went back to his usual work here, but I didn't know he had been inactive for more than two weeks.
