AFCH review edit

When accepting an article, please check the article's title and see if there might be better titles, and check to see if the better title has an article already. You recently accepted Dennis Mannion (New Hampshire Politician), but Dennis Mannion (politician) already existed. I made the new article a redirect. - UtherSRG (talk) 12:35, 10 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Scammer Payback edit

Hi, Newystats. Wanted to reach out about this. I rarely questions someone's decision at AfC, but would like your feedback here. I would love this guy to have an article. In fact, I started a draft for him a few months back. Didn't publish as I found he simply didn't have enough references that meet WP:ANYBIO. Is there something I am not seeing here? CNMall41 (talk) 06:12, 24 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

The international coverage pushed it over the line for me, so there is the local Fox station News coverage, the The Siasat Daily, with coverage from the Indian end. There is (not in the refs in the article) coverage on Good Morning America. Newystats (talk) 07:21, 24 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the reply. I didn't see this as your talk page was not on my watchlist (it is now). I still think the coverage is thin but better than what I originally found. I am actually here to let you know I sent Medable to AfD. Wanted to give you a heads up since I see you approved it. The user's submission of Draft:WatchBox led me to it. The references look good on the surface but when I dug further I couldn't find any that added up for WP:ORGCRIT.

Regarding Draft:Ami Dror edit

@Newystats: Greetings. Regarding Draft:Ami Dror, I believe you declining my submission on the grounds of sources is completely unjustified. In contrast to your claim, the article is sufficiently referenced and sufficiently sourced from numerous reliable news outlets from Israel, the U.S., China and India. These include The Times of Israel, The New York Times, CNBC, Fox Business, and there are more there such as articles in South China Morning Post, The Times of India, Haaretz, Calcalist, TheMarker and others, and these are just the ones that contribute to his notability from the entrepreneurial perspective without going into the many others in the Israeli press that refer to him being a leader in the ongoing struggle against judicial reform in Israel. Therefore, with that said, I don't think there is any room to doubt the notability of Ami Dror and I kindly ask that you reconsider your action and that you reinstate the article in the main namespace where it belongs. --Omer Toledano (talk) 14:58, 1 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Please help reviewers by removing some of the refs that are not independent, such as ref 2 in the current draft. 55 is a lot of references to wade through to find the ones that establish notability. More refs is not always better. When you have so many refs, it is helpful to highlight on the Draft Talk page which ones establish notability. Newystats (talk) 21:22, 1 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
For example, this would be a stronger draft with only 1 of the refs 2,3,4 and only 1 of the refs 4,5,6 Newystats (talk) 21:24, 1 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Newystats: Per your spec, I have removed redundant sourcing and stated the case on the article talk page. I have gone ahead and resubmitted. --Omer Toledano (talk) 03:49, 2 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Newystats: Hi again, I've expanded about his activity and added an interview reference from Calcalist. Could you please advise? I don't see a justifiable reason for the constant rejection. Ami Dror is a notable figure in Israel. --Omer Toledano (talk) 08:39, 13 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

ArbCom 2023 Elections voter message edit

Hello! Voting in the 2023 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 11 December 2023. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2023 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:42, 28 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

duplication? edit

This recently accepted page Chola invasion of the Anuradhapura Kingdom seems to duplicating a long standing existing page: Chola conquest of Anuradhapura. I think the new article should be redirected to the already accepted version which is better referenced and less politicised/nationalistic. Phrases such as 'Catastrophic Chola defeat' and the overall result being a "chola defeat' have a Sri Lankan nationalistic tinge not fitting of an encyclopaedia. Metta79 (talk) 11:59, 18 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for noticing @Metta79 - I tried seeing if the draft page was a candidate for merging, but missed finding Chola conquest of Anuradhapura. I agree, and will replace the content with a redirect. Newystats (talk) 22:43, 18 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

John Haidar edit

I noticed that you re-edited the career section of John Haidar to include a negative review, which you'd published previously on the assumption it would mean the entry didn't function as an "ad". As noted in the most recent edit, it seems unnecessary to post a negative review, in accordance with comparable Wikipedia entries of artists and theatremakers. In effect, it feels deliberately targeted for this reason. Would you mind avoiding changing it back, please? It would be really appreciated. Dickens90 (talk) 09:32, 5 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

If you can identify other theatremaker articles that only include the good reviews and leave out the negative ones, I'm willing to add the negative reviews there as well. Wikipedia is not a CV, and if a person is notable in wikipedia terms, covered in independent secondary sources, the most likely sort of coverage is a mix of good and bad reviews. Do you have an interest in the page on John Haidar only including one good review, rather than one good and one bad review? Newystats (talk) 08:44, 8 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

"Ami Dror" edit

Draft:Ami Dror

As Israeli, I find it absurde that the English page about this person is defined by you as "not sufficiently notable for inclusion in Wikipedia.". Dror is one of the key leaders in Israel, Personaly I'm part of a comunitry of close to 100,000 people that follow him daily on his whatsapp groups. (check is social media) - he is being quated and interviewed almost every day etc etc. https://x.com/faniaoz/status/1771595428573712817?s=20

I edited parts that were wrong, and this page need to be restored ASAP as it makes Wikipedia looks like a political tool which tries to hide the people that are working to change the Israeli goverment.

Thank you, Gili2011 (talk) 07:29, 26 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your contribution to Wikipedia. Notability in wikipedia has a particular meaning. The number of social media followers doesn't establish notability. What is needed is multiple, independent (of the subject), reliable secondary sources. Each of those requirements are required. See WP:PERSON for details about what each of those requirements mean, add those sources to the draft page and submit it for another review. Newystats (talk) 04:56, 27 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
