R46 putting Pullman out of business. edit

Your revision is certainly correct- Although your justification is slightly wrong. Pullman was still building cars for amtrak into the early 1980s. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 157.252.96.204 (talk) 23:14, 16 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited New York City Subway in popular culture, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Full House (TV series) (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). MBTA platform layouts edit

Are you sure there's really a need to add platform layouts for MBTA stations? I understand the need for systems like New York - where there are often multiple platforms at a single station, and multiple services using them. But the MBTA only has a handful of stations with anything more than one island or two side platforms, and only at Park Street, Kenmore, and JFK/UMass is there any differentiation between services. The code used to generate the display is also absolutely incompatible with screen readers, which makes the articles difficult for blind people to read.

I think it might be better to make SVG images for the handful of stations with complex layouts, and remove the code from other stations. Pi.1415926535 (talk) 01:44, 2 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

I was only doing it since I thought it would be a nice addition to the articles. Since the articles are about the stations, I thought it would be helpful for people to get a visual idea of the layout of the stations. Also, we have them for every New York subway station article, even though out of the 468 stations, only about 50 stations have multiple platforms. However, if others feel there is no need for them, I will discontinue the creation of them. Mysteryman557 (talk) 01:51, 2 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
I'll ask at WP Trains; I'd say hold off on the rest for now until other weigh in. My gut reaction is that for a system as simple as the T, the loss of screen reader access is not worth the usefulness. You may also wish to look into using templates for the NYC system, as if made properly they can be a lot friendlier for screen readers. Cheers, Pi.1415926535 (talk) 01:56, 2 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
Okay, fair enough. I will hold off on the rest until an answer is reached. Please let me know as soon as possible if you would like me to continue or not. As for the NYC subway platform layouts, I will let the others know your suggestion. Mysteryman557 (talk) 02:03, 2 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
I raised the question at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Trains#Platform layouts on less complex systems, and I'll cross-link it from the NYC transportation-specific project as well. Pi.1415926535 (talk) 02:11, 2 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

NYCS layout templates edit

Hey, I was just wondering if you could replace fewer of the NYCS layouts with layout templates, as they seem to be applied indiscriminately. Additionally, some of them are now missing next-stop links as well as certain specific information. Epicgenius(give him tiradecheck out damage) 23:03, 25 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

The templates were created to reduce the size of the article (and most do reduce the size of the article dramatically). Consensus was also reached among the other editors that it is the better way to go. The templates also make the articles more friendly for screen readers. As for the next stop information, I removed it because the information was already mentioned in the infobox of the article and supporting WP:NOTTRAVEL. However, if you feel it is necessary, I will adjust the templates for next stop information to be revealed. Mysteryman557 (talk) 01:01, 26 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
Never mind, I have fixed the next-stop problem.
Also, I will add templates to the station layouts which will show the details of the station. Epicgenius(give him tiradecheck out damage) 22:31, 26 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

I've been having a hard time trying to figure out how to edit the NYCS rolling stock template. After I click "edit", I saw nothing there in the editing box except the category. Also, don't you know and/or agree with me that the J/Z is one line and the latter of which isn't a true line at all? JoesphBarbaro (talk) 22:08, 29 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

Click Edit and scroll down to the bottom, you will see a section called car. There you will see a list of cars with their assignments. Here is an example of edits and how to update the JoeKorner link. However, if you want to rearrange the order from         to        , please do not make the edit. If you click here, you will see that it is arranged that way because it has a better physical appearance and prevents color disorientation among readers. As for the J/Z issue, I understand what you are saying. However, I believe it should be left the way it is for a few reasons. 1) They are two separate services, station signs read    , not (J/Z) at stations they both serve. 2) When conductors announce transfers, they will say, "Transfer is available to the J and Z trains." 3) Wikipedia is an encyclopedia. We need to write in proper English. Therefore, saying J/Z is not proper. J and Z is preferred. Thank You Mysteryman557 (talk) 22:56, 29 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

I'm just making sure to see if you really are aware that the Z is just another J due to the aforementioned reasons I previously explain clearly to you. In that case and going by that logic, then should we go change the New York City Subway station inboxes together? To match the based color assigned to a trunk line rather than in the regular alphabetical order format? JoesphBarbaro (talk) 20:36, 30 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

  • The layout for the Pelham Line stations north of Parkchester (e.g. Buhre Avenue and Zerega Avenue) are wrong. Instead of saying "  toward Pelham Bay Park or Parkchester," it should say "    toward Pelham Bay Park," because at those stations, all northbound trains, whether local or express, go to Pelham Bay Park. The Manhattan-bound side should also include a   on it since technically, both the local and express 6 stop there.

Station Template Layout Reply edit

Thank you, but the template info for the IRT Pelham Line local stations north of Parkchester is still wrong. On the northbound side, it should only say "toward Pelham Bay Park" since all northbound trains at that point go to Pelham Bay Park. You have to remove the "or Parkchester" on them. Do you know how to do that, or would you have to create a new template? The Legendary Ranger (talk) 00:25, 15 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

Station Templates edit

Hello I am —CKY2250 ταικ, I can help you with these templates. One thing I suggest is keeping the same layout from template to template. I see some have doc pages others do not. I don't know if each are set up the same, however a documentation of how the template is used and how to update it would be nice. I also suggest adding categories linking all of these templates in one so others can easily find the correct template.—CKY2250 ταικ 14:39, 3 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for the suggestion. Yes, I do know some of the templates have documentation while others do not and do agree that all the templates should be formatted the same. Our primary goal right now is to replace the "Station Layout" section in the NYC Subway station articles with these templates to remove the binary coding from the article body and (dramatically) reduce the size of the article. Slowly, I am updating the templates to have documentation and information on how to update them. Any help anyone can offer would be very much appreciated. Again, thank you for your suggestion Mysteryman557 (talk) 15:05, 3 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
I can help as well, with the layouts on the Washington Metro, as well as other places where I have been placing the station layouts. Epicgenius(give him tiradecheck out damage) 19:48, 3 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
Have you thought about switching these to lua code and making one module that is called from one template.—CKY2250 ταικ 20:22, 3 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

Template:NYCS Platform Layout Times Square Station edit

In the template Template:NYCS Platform Layout Times Square Station, you said that "Its not open yet, wait until it opens before adding it". Why did you remove the links? The hidden text is to be replacing the current text later. The links currently say that there is no service to the stations right now, which is true. If there is any misunderstandings, please comment on my talk page. Thanks. Epicgenius(give him tiradecheck out damage) 02:38, 7 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

The reason I removed it is because I do not feel we should "be so quick" to add it. I think we should only focus on the current service pattern as of right now. Even thought the text is hidden, it is extra space in the article that is not really needed, in my opinion anyway. Please feel free to leave opinion on the matter. Thank you Mysteryman557 (talk) 01:10, 10 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
The hidden text is there, so that when June 2014 comes around, the hidden text could replace the existing text. It would then be easier to edit the template. Also, the next-stop links to 34th Street and Tenth Avenue would not only exist in the infobox, it would also exist in the layout. Re: R142A/R188 edit

R188 edit

This is a strip map of the R188. If it was not in service (and I don't work for the MTA or anything), then how could I have caught this picture?

I saw it with my own eyes. See the picture at right. Epicgenius(give him tiradecheck out damage) 03:13, 12 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

"I saw" is not a source. Conclusions can not be developed based on what a user "sees". We only rely what is found in sources. Consensus was reached the JoeKorner is a reliable source regarding car assignments, since the author is a former employee of the MTA and still keeps in touch with the MTA, therefore, is in a position to know such things. See Talk:R62 (New York City Subway car). Mysteryman557 (talk) 05:17, 12 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
Well, I guess Joe Korman needs to update his data sheets, then. This is incontrovertible evidence of an R188 in service. Also, the R62A talk page talks about the lack of certain car classes on a certain train service, which is a different matter altogether. Epicgenius(give him tiradecheck out damage) 13:59, 12 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

If there are certain sets that are in service every day for the next few weeks can it be posted The sets are 7811-7822 7823-7833 7834-7844 7211-7220+7899 And i understand why you say that pics and vids aren't reliable, but at a certain point shouldn't it be posted? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kew Gardens 613 (talkcontribs) 01:09, 22 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

It can not be verified without a reliable source. Just because it is seen operating in service for a few days or a few weeks, it is hard to tell if it is officially in service, or if it is testing. However, I will bring the discussion up at the WikiProject New York City Public Transportation page. Mysteryman557 (talk) 03:27, 22 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

R142A edit

I think you are correct on this one, since I received updated information for my friends working at NYC Transit's car equipment about more R142A changes I would like to share with you about same.

1, More R142A's are being withdrawn from the (6) line for conversion into R188's #'s 7246-7255 are the numbers, and are currently at the 239 Street Yard, awaiting transport to Kawasaki's Yonkers facility. Since the R188's have passed their acceptance tests, now its full speed ahead with the conversions and deliveries.

2, To make up for this loss, one set of R142A's #'s 7666-7675 were withdrawn from the (4), and transferred to the (6) to fill in for the gap. I would have thought that more R62A's would be transferred from the (7) to the (6), however not this time around.

3, Another ten car train of R62A's were transferred from the (1) to the (7) on December 13, 2013, to give them extra cars when the need arises, since with the unitized five-car sets when one car goes bad, then all five cars of the unitized set must be removed from service, thus creating a severe car shortage for the (7) line.

I hope you will understand this, and thank you for your understanding, and will keep these updates coming.

Merry Christmas and have a Happy New Year for 2014.

Regards,

Joe Wong

June 2015 edit

Re: R160 subway cars running on the (C) line again

I notice you keep deleting all my updating materials about the R160 subway cars. This talk page is to set the record straight!!! Where the hell have you been the last two hot days? Did you actually go out and ride the (C) or (J)/(Z) trains within the last two very hot days? Well, I can tell you that I have been riding the subways, and the majority of the (C) service is now covered by R160A-1's, with less than 5 trains of R32's remaining out of a total of 18 trains assigned to this line, with the R160A-1's dominating.

Prior to April 24, 2015 the (C) was 100% R32's. I have also ridden the (J)/(Z) during this period, and it appears that the displaced R32's from the (C) is providing most service on these two lines with eleven trains in total, along with five trains of rusty looking R42's, and only three trains of R160A-1's remaining on these two lines, making a total of 19 trains assigned to these lines, with the R32's dominating.

Also, please be considerate that you are getting some help in contributing and updating these articles, and you should be very thankful for my help in providing same, instead of fighting with me about same.

I always try to be as accurate with my information to the best of my ability.

Now you should restore this paragraph, and remove it when the appropriate time calls for its removal. I also stated that I will REMOVE this paragraph when this temporary assignment expires in October !!! So give it a break already.

"The 3rd annual R160A-1 temporary assignment update notice; effective April 24, 2015 until further notice, one train of R160A-1 will be transferred to 207 Street Yard each week to be operated on the C line only, and in exchange an R32 set will be transferred to East New York Yard to be operated on either the J or Z services until early October of 2015. A total of 14 trains or 112 cars are to be exchanged or swapped between these two yards only. This paragraph will be deleted when all cars are returned back to their respective maintenance yards during October, 2015, or when delivery of the new R179s cars which are to commence later this year."

I think they did one train per week, as not to create a car shortage situation within these lines. That is all I can say about this one.

Thank You.

Respectfully Yours,

Robert Ko
