Although I know that you are capable of becoming an administrator, I know that the other editors here aren't going to look kindly upon all your image edits. I really feel badly about closing it, and I know that you might feel the same, but I'm 100 percent willing to help you meet the minimum for becoming an administrator. With all due courtesy, your tagging of the Cassie Chadwick image is amazing. Chadwick died in 1907, well before the 70 year rule on US copyright takes effects. Furthermore, the image was taken sometime in 1880s when Chadwick was in her 30s. Perhaps the fair use classification needs redone, but thats all. But I have to say that it is exactly this type of action that has driven me off Wikipedia, and the top reason why I don't contribute to the site any longer. In the end do whatever you feel like doing, I don't care. But please STOP sending me notices of your intentions to zap images that I loaded two and three years ago. Game log

I just finished merging a game log in 1965 Los Angeles Dodgers season, and I think I achieved a fairly good format for the collapsible sections. In particular, it's hard to read the [show] links in 2009 Los Angeles Dodgers season, due to the blue on blue. In 1965 Los Angeles Dodgers season, I used the collapsible table class directly, rather than the container divs. Obviously, feel free to change the style to conform with the norm if people don't like it, but I found the [hide] links easier to read. PNC/NatCity footprint

Is there any way you can update the PNC/National City footprint to have all of the branches in blue? Although as of today PNC still needs to convert branches in Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, and Missouri, there are other footprint maps of a recently merged bank in one color such as Wells Fargo and Wachovia, which Wells Fargo is taking another year to finish. Haha, I made that one too, I probably should fix that up to only include Nat City branches. Actually, it's a self-written program that's a Frankensteinian mixture of Perl which outputs data in C++ format, which is then compiled and run with appropriate input variables; the C++ code takes an svg format map which I convert by hand into png format. I get the bank branches right by ripping it off FDIC bankfind. The program converts the zip code to a latitude/longitude via a list I created by scraping the information straight off MapQuest (hey, the information is not copyrightable), and in rare circumstances (e.g., where I need a more precise dot), I will actually scrape the lat/long off MapQuest for each street address. I'm not quite sure it's ready for public release (hard to run, possibly buggy, incomplete, and if not run carefully could amount to an attack on the FDIC's or MapqQuests servers), so if you have anything you wanted me to map out, just let me know (I'm currently working on other formats, e.g., Target Corporation). The surprising part of all of this is that the programming took relatively little time to write up; it's the process of drinkering with the map appearances that takes forever. Reverted images on Maui Mallard

I'm sorry about changing the boxart, but there was a very simple reason I did it. Originally, that page was headed up by an image of the European box art for the game, under the filename 'maui europe.jpg'. Since the standard on Wikipedia seems to be to use the American box art, even if the game was made somewhere else, I uploaded the American box art as 'mauimallard.jpg' and made that the head of the page. The next editor wanted to change it back, but instead of switching the files, he actually re-uploaded the European boxart to mauimallard.jpg, my file, and left the page as it was. So, not wanting to start an edit war on the page, I switched my file back to its original state and placed maui europe.jpg on the page in a thumbnail, as a compromise. Instead, the user removed maui europe.jpg from the page and changed my file again. So, I finally gave up, changed my file back to the American cover art, and made maui europe.jpg the top picture on the page. I didn't mean to cause any trouble, I just didn't appreciate having my image changed for no reason. Master Deusoma (talk) 08:24, 10 August 2010 (UTC)

Yeah that should be OK, but I would definitely advise placing a notice on that user's page, and placing notification on the administrator's noticeboard if the issue continues. Financial Institution footprint data

This is the correct way to message! I think I'm going to have to create a FAQ or something, I've had a good number of questions about it: see User_talk:Magog_the_Ogre/Archive_2#Hey_Magog--I.27m_a_big_fan. First off, I created a list of every zip code in the country and its corresponding latitude/longitude. Then I get the branch information off the FDIC, and compare the zip code and create circles on an svg location map. I convert the map to png by hand by use of GIMP. Ah - thanks. In this case, much thanks/respect for coding this (even though you it "didn't take much time"). I've worked with zip/lat/lon databases before, wouldn't know the first thing about being able to plot those onto an SVG though. The thing I'm working on right now is a comparison of footprints for major retail banks (pretty much the top 10-ish by FDIC deposits). I'm guessing that if you could send me the original SVGs for the maps you've already made, I could load them into illustrator, merge the dots for each institution onto the same background, color code them, and then have a pretty cool idea of how they overlap. Do you think you'd have time to help out with this (it's for a work presentation and would be nice to have in the next day or so). I don't keep the maps, I generated them on the fly. Which banks were you looking for? I can create a) a rough map of the entire US (minus AK/HI/territories) with state borders, b) a high detail map of the US (minus AK/HI/territories) with county lines, or c) individual states (including AK/HI/territories). If you have time, a rough map of the 48 contiguous states with state lines would be perfect. The main banks I'm looking at are: Bank of America, US Bank, Wells Fargo, TCF, Chase, Citi, Fifth/Third, PNC. Under the infobox, where we usually put a photo of the person on the article, I'm fairly certain it will not do. You might be able to get away with the photo somewhere else as demonstrating "the perception of that person by himself" - but that's iffy too. If done properly, you could use the photo if you are using it to demonstrate the appearanace of his artwork, as no one can create a free equivalent of his work. National Cartoon Museum

Re: museumofcartoonart.jpg: The Museum of Cartoon Art building was described as being "dilapidated" 34 years ago. Looking at Comly Avenue on Google Maps, it's evident that this building has since been destroyed. Since it no longer exists, no "free use image" can be created. OK, I've done it! For the first image, we had to change the license to comply with the webpage where it came from. As fo the other two images, do you personally know Marko Rakočević or Vuko Rakočević? And do they approve of the license you've put up? This information would be helpful under the "author" section. For professional photographs and photographs online, we use {{subst:npd}}. However, if it's a family or friend, there's really no way for the Wikimedia foundation to verify the identity of the original uploader and contact that person (we'd have the contact the uploader, ask for the alternate email of that friend, which could just as easily be forged by the original uploader). As such, our practice is to just let it be, with a notation that these people specified this license exactly (not "this person allowed me to upload it to Wikipedia") under the permission or authorship section of the information tag. I've removed that; the only reason those captions even exist is as a warning to the users who read that article; they don't actually serve to tag the image for the deletion process, like the actual tags do on the images themselves. That license, unfortunately, is too restrictive for Wikipedia. See {{cc-by-nc-sa}}, which is the license the images have on their source page. I have added some information regarding the source of this image. Please can you confirm that this is now acceptable? Having seen the image in one of the discuusion groups refered to in the source description, I have been in email contact with the photographer, who has given his permission to use this image (along with some others he also sent me.) They were taken privately by him, and are from his own private collection. I have included a comment from his email, but I don't feel it is appropriate to put his direct email address on wikipedia, for privacy reasons. As far as I can tell, ValenShephard has been a single purpose editor since s/he arrived, the purpose being to push a left-wing POV (left-wing from the standpoint of Latin America). I find it jaw-droppingly ironic that s/he "cannot take your opinion too much to heart because you have revealed your partisan stance and desire to 'balance'". To be honest, I haven't held much hope for her/him from the beginning: if one's desire is to push a point of view, Wikipedia is most definitely not the place for such an editor. Questions on search and wikipedia

I noticed my topic is not searchable.

How do I add some keywords to the search so that others can find my article? For example, I would like to be able to search for the acronym, not just the full name of the organization.

The answer to your first question: I'm not quite sure what you mean by "searchable" - the article will show up on Google within a matter of days. Can you clarify?

Your second question: I am actually going through a one-on-one training with an administrator right now, but that's not necessary. I'm just very good with computers and encyclopedic type of things, so I picked up on everything naturally. A user can add any of those credentials to their page, with the exception of rollback rights and reviewer rights. If you want to know how to get the right to do either of those, see Wikipedia:Requests for permissions. Our policies on Wikipedia are such that we don't accept fair use images of living subjects or buildings/objects which are still standing. I realize I've gone through your uploads and I really do apologize for having to do that, and I'm sorry about any frustration I've caused on the issue. However, the policy is such because such an image could in the future be snapped by someone in Greece, whether a Flickr user with an appropriate license, or the US military, or a Grecian Wikipedia user. As much as it's an inconvenience, it's done on Wikipedia's part in order to maximize free usage as much as possible. As such, we probably can't accept any image of these objects right now. I would actually encourage you to post at help desk if you want a second opinion on this, but I'm fairly familiar with this distinction of Wikipedia image policy. As a non-free image, that's right. We have a lot of articles that don't have images as a result. I can understand your frustration; in fact many disagree with it. Wikipedia's fair use policy is stricter than US fair use policy (so far as I can tell): but it comes straight from founder of the project himself, so it's pretty non-negotiable. Hi, thanks for the help. I may be dense but I'm trying to figure this all out. Here's what has happened so far. Rob Schenck sent me email pictures. He also sent an email to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org with the Declaration of Consent and a copy of each of those pictures for the image database (wherever that is). Figuring that they are now the property of wikipedia, I uploaded the copy that I have to put in my article. I figured the best way to describe that process was "donated by Rob Schenck". What do you think should be done? I'm happy to take instruction in the matter. This whole thing is very confusing to me. I've yet to figure out where to find the pictures that are uploaded. I'm not sure that this one can be saved, but here's the story. The image as it appears is edited down from one taken from a website where its only credit is to the Archives. I have been to the archives website and have not found a way to retrieve a similar image directly; also I have checked in LoC photo archives without success.

I am certain that the photograph was taken before 1920 because in the year the building was severely damaged and then modified so that it as much larger than it appears in this picture. Therefore I suppose it could be declared PD on the grounds of age. If that is not acceptable, I'm afraid I do not have the time to go down to COllege Park and try to obtain a physical original, not to mention the risk that they don't know who took the picture either. I tend to get a bit confounded by these upload issues, how could this get flagged and deleted when it was stated in the upload feilds that it was CC# and credited back to author and tagged to a CC domain wiki.

Hi Felix! Sorry about any problems you've had; I know the licensing can be quite confusing at first. The reason we had to delete the image is that the upload text you provided was in direct contradiction to CC. Specifically, if I remember correctly, the page at Wikitravel says exactly what the page at Wikipedia says: Please do not modify chart information and please do not use this chart for navigational purposes. But CC requires the ability to use derivatives and commercial purposes. That's the reason we had to delete it.

Upon another reading of your text, perhaps you had meant "please don't do modify/use for navigation because it won't be beneficial for your sake" rather than "you are not allowed to modify/use for navigation." Is that right? If so, that means that both I and the deleting administrator misread it, and I apologize for that. If so, please feel free to reupload the file, although I highly suggest you can change the wording of the text (e.g., "map may not be up to date, so navigational use is not recommended; see source image for updates"). You'll also want to include put the {{OTRSpending}} tag on the upload and then follow the instructions on {{Di-no permission}} for sending us proof that the image is released under CC.
