- Added link to the CatScan tool to find articles needing cleanup, referencing and expanding
- Added common tasks that should be performed on Portal:South Africa
- Added information on how to add Geographical coordinates
- Added articles missing Images
- Added assessment information
- Improving the layout to make access to information easier
- Added simple "How can I help?" instructions for new project members
- Extended the Resources section to assist participants in finding South Africa related information
- Added bot generated Article alerts
- Added a bot generated Cleanup listing
- Added more information on template usage
- Added a section on language usage
- Improved the categories section with trees for category:South Africa Wikipedia administration and category:South Africa
- Added link to Wikipedia Books
- Marked inactive sections of the project as inactive

Hi. I notice you have been removing red links from articles. In most cases red links are not a problem and are in fact encouraged to help identify articles that need to be written. If you think that a red link is inappropriate can you please use a more informative edit summary than "Red wikilinx" or "Removed red wikilinx"? Thanks. Road Wizard (talk) 01:34, 23 January 2010 (UTC)

- Not worth much of an argument, but you must believe that red links which have been unable to encourage articles to be written in over 5 years are significant. March Madness 2017 edit
G'day all, please be advised that throughout March 2017 the Military history Wikiproject is running its March Madness drive. This is a backlog drive that is focused on several key areas:
- tagging and assessing articles that fall within the project's scope
- updating the project's currently listed A-class articles to ensure their ongoing compliance with the listed criteria
- creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various task force pages or other lists of missing articles.
As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.
The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the military history scope will be considered eligible. More information can be found here for those that are interested, and members can sign up as participants at that page also.
The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 March and runs until 23:59 UTC on 31 March 2017, so please sign up now.

2017 Military Historian of the Year and Newcomer of the Year nominations and voting edit

Each year we do this by bestowing two awards: the Military Historian of the Year and the Military History Newcomer of the Year. "Military history" is one of the most important subjects when speak of sum of all human knowledge. To support contributors interested in the area over various language Wikipedias, we intend to form a user group. It also provides a platform to share the best practices between military historians, and various military related projects on Wikipedias. An initial discussion was has been done between the coordinators and members of WikiProject Military History on English Wikipedia. Now this discussion has been taken to Meta-Wiki. April 2018 Milhist Backlog Drive edit
G'day all, please be advised that throughout April 2018 the Military history Wikiproject is running its annual backlog elimination drive. This will focus on several key areas:

This is not the sole focus of the edit-a-thon, though, and there are aspects that hopefully will appeal to pretty much everyone.

Wikipedia Capacity Building Workshop edit
Wikimedia South Africa will be hosting Asaf Bartov from the Wikimedia Foundation for 5 days where he will be conducting a series of Capacity Building Workshops in Johannesburg and Cape Town. The workshops are aimed at addressing challenges faced by African Wikimedians and share tools that will enable them to better increase African content. In Johannesburg the workshops will take place on 25 - 26 May 2018 at the Goethe Institut, and in Cape Town Asaf will be meeting Wikimedians on 29 May 2018. ArbCom 2018 election voter message edit
Hello, Lmcelhiney. Voting in the 2018 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 3 December. All users who registered an account before Sunday, 28 October 2018, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Thursday, 1 November 2018 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

Cory Window edit
Hi Larry, you recently added a picture of a stained glass window commemorating George Cory (historian). The picture I'm refereing to is this one below. You say that this window is in the Grahamstown Cathedral, I was a churchwarden at the cathedral for a number of years until 2017 and I do not recall seeing this window and I can't visualize the location. Are you sure that this window is in the Grahamstown Cathedral? If so can you let me know in which bit of the building it is. many thanks Wayne Jayes (talk) 06:40, 7 March 2019 (UTC)
Hi Wayne,
As identified by the date stamp on the image, that was the window in 1995. I was friends with Mike Berning (previously head of the Cory Library) who told me where to look for it. As you can see from my other images in the Grahamstown Cathedral article (plaques before being covered) they were all done on that same date "in sequence". I was last there in 1995, maybe it has been removed?

In the 2018 edition of the contest, about 600 Wikipedia articles were created in at least 8 languages. There were also contributions to Wikidata and Wikimedia commons, which brought the total number of wikimedia pages created during the contest to over 1,000.

Hey y'all, the April 2021 WikiProject Military History Reviewing Drive begins at 00:01 UTC on April 1, 2021 and runs through 23:59 UTC on April 31, 2021. Points can be earned through reviewing articles on the AutoCheck report, reviewing articles listed at WP:MILHIST/ASSESS, reviewing MILHIST-tagged articles at WP:GAN or WP:FAC, and reviewing articles submitted at WP:MILHIST/ACR. Service awards and barnstars are given for set points thresholds, and the top three finishers will receive further awards. Registration is now open for WikiConference North America 2022 (Nov. 11–13) held jointly with Mapping USA! If you would like to experience this virtual event in-person, you are welcome to join our meetup in Indianapolis! We will be meeting at IUPUI University Library for the weekend, with AV set up for conference streaming and presenting (for those who've submitted proposals). Anyone is welcome to join, we will have some light refreshments and are planning evening activities. Feel free to join us for an activity, a day, or the whole weekend. Please let us know you are coming via the meetup page and please register for the conference. We will share more about in-person activities on the meetup page as they are finalized.
