Nav Box edit

I am sorry that you think I am being confrontational with regard to nav boxes on the Haine article it was not my intention. I have a large number of articles on my watchlist and I try and make sure that changes are consistent. Seeing two non-standard nav boxes being added I challenged this by removing them as in my consistent mind they are not used on the other thousands of articles of similar subject. This is why I am trying to find out why these nav boxes are an exception to the general practice. So far I only get back that they may be of use to the reader, if thats the case then why are they are not on thousands of military articles. So rather than rules and guidelines its more of common sense. Other similar nav boxes have been removed recently from military articles using the bidirectional guideline. And as for the RAF squadron navboxes I just dont get that one hence again why I am trying to find out why it is of value on Haine and not on the thousands of other non-squadron articles. The medal issue is being dicussed at project level so I will defer to any consensus or wisdom there, although in the past differences in American and British views have precluded a general consensus. c:COM:VPC#PD-FLGOV and law enforcement booking photos edit

Hi Lightburst. You might want to take a look at this c:COM:VPC thread since it's related to my previous post here. Only one response as been received so far, but that person is pretty experienced when it comes to file licensing. You can do two things here: (1) convert the local file's licensing back to {{PD-FLGov}}, replace its non-free use rationale with {{Information}}, and then tag with {{Copy to Wikimedia Commons}}; or (2) upload a better quality/higher resolution version (if you can find one)directly to Commons under the same file name under the "PD-FLGov" license and then tag the local file with {{Now Commons}} so that it's deleted. Of course there's always the do nothing option and leave the file as non-free, but there doesn't really seem to be any valid reason to do that (technically the file could be deleted per WP:FREER) and it would be much easier for other WMF projects to use the file if it were hosted on Commons. -- Marchjuly (talk) 07:55, 18 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

Cheers edit

Damon Runyon's short story "Dancing Dan's Christmas" is a fun read if you have the time. Right from the start it extols the virtues of the hot Tom and Jerry

This hot Tom and Jerry is an old-time drink that is once used by one and all in this country to celebrate Christmas with, and in fact it is once so popular that many people think Christmas is invented only to furnish an excuse for hot Tom and Jerry, although of course this is by no means true.

No matter what concoction is your favorite to imbibe during this festive season I would like to toast you with it and to thank you for all your work here at the 'pedia this past year. Best wishes for your 2020 as well L MarnetteD|Talk 03:46, 22 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

Season's greetings, but ... edit

Thanks for your seasonal message on my talk page... but you didn't close the box quite right, so my next message initially got absorbed into your box! Adding a newline before your closing couple of characters did the trick. You might like to check whether any other messages you've left need that little bit of a tweak? Enjoy the season, anyway. Regarding Proposing Mr Faizal Khan in deletion option edit

Sir/ Madam...

Don't know what made you to say that content needs to be deleted. Person like him should be known to society in relevant reasons . He is a down to earth person irrespective of all the achievements in this young age and person who can be considered as an icon by this young generation. I am not trying to boast him but understanding the fact I feel that should raise you to think about it twice before degrading an eminent personality either you or me can't ever become.. People like him should be known to world...even the unrated celebrity's are maintaining their page , why not a worthy person like him have that...I can tell you with a simple example, how many keralites are directly invited to UN General Assembly to speak on....Should be proud as an Indian Vediad (talk) 19:04, 27 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

@Vediad: Hi, I did not !vote on the AfD. I have not investigated the subject at all. I only placed deletion sorting on the AfD which allows those who follow other projects to come to the AfD and assess the article and subject. Lightburst (talk) 19:07, 27 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Vediad:Sure: you must place an asterisk and bold your vote like this
  • Keep meets WP:GNG (give a rational here) (and finish by signing with four ~)

Give a reason for your vote (Read WP:N), otherwise it is WP:JUSTAVOTE and will be discounted. Justify how this person can meet the criteria. Lightburst (talk) 19:15, 27 December 2019 (UTC) Great to know that....could you please tell me how to vote in AfD.. Vediad (talk) 19:10, 27 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

Could you please tell me where should I do this...inside the content below the notification or somewhere else. Vediad (talk) 19:31, 27 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

I have done just below that AFD message..hope it is correct..if you could check it for a noble reason...it would be grateful. Vediad (talk) 20:31, 27 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

Thank you...if you have helped me.. Vediad (talk) 01:51, 28 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

Bachelor Lake AfD edit

As an aside, I think you should consider un-striking Doncram's !vote for two reasons. First, you struck the entire comment, and that's not how it's done–when striking a duplicate !vote, traditionally only the bolded !vote part ("Redirect" or whatever) is struck; the rest of the comment remains unstruck, because a nom is allowed to make comments even if they're not allowed to !vote. Second, this isn't actually a duplicate !vote. The nomination statement is considered a delete !vote, it's true, but in this case, the nominator !voted "redirect", which I read as a change of !vote, and not a second !vote. I think the better move, if any, would be to tag it as a nominator !vote, but really, I think the closer will figure that out on their own. Because it's a change of !vote, I don't see it as a duplicate !vote. Levivich 06:06, 4 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

  • @Levivich: Regarding the article. It is not a side issue when an AfD nominator is tendentious and keeps refactoring an article to favor deletion. The state of the article is exactly what notifying participants and the AfD closer is about. We disagree - (see WP:BLUDGEONING). Also, someone already un-struck the duplicate !vote. FYI: you know that this is a small lake in Minn - one of 10,000! The nominator, you and I should work on one of the other 6 million articles and let this AfD close without walls of text and chicanery. Lightburst (talk) 14:31, 4 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

DYK for Bertha Boronda edit

On 4 January 2020, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Bertha Boronda, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Bertha Boronda tried to flee on a bicycle after committing mayhem against her husband? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Bertha Boronda. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Bertha Boronda), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

List of lakes in Washington, D.C. moved to draftspace edit

An article you recently created, List of lakes in Washington, D.C., does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. buidhe 05:24, 10 January 2020 (UTC)Reply
