ANI

I'm having real trouble understanding this thread. The IP is making the most outrageous claims, yet the admins who have posted to the thread act like there's no cause for concern. I've opened a sock puppet investigation, initially just for the issue with User:Atomises and the IP, but now the IP is saying he is User:Khukri. I certainly don't want to do more harm than good. I could use some guidance on whether I should bow out, withdraw the SPI report, not worry about it, whatever. The SPI was closed because "the main account has publicly confirmed editing with both this IP and the Atomises account." I assume "main account" refers to Khukri, and it's unclear to me why no action was taken as a result of the sock puppetry. The last comment in the Rolland thread was by Bushranger, who said that "part of WP:ILLEGIT was violated here." I had earlier in the thread referred to a different part of that same section, WP:ADMINSOCK.

I'm not sure how admins feel about what Khukri did, but in the absence of any indication that action will be taken against him, I would like to start a thread at ANI challenging what he did as a violation of policy and as conduct unbefitting an admin (he even calls himself a "rogue aadmin"). Although I truly resent the deception and game playing by Khukri, at the same time, I'm not real sure of my ground here. For example, I don't know how his supposed retirement affects his admin responsibilities and obligations. I'm also not altogether sure what sanctions I should be requesting, i.e., loss of tools or lesser sanctions that might be applicable to any editor. I also don't want to tilt at windmills if I'm going to be laughed out of court by beginning such a thread. ANI is a tough place. Any comments before I stick my foot (to mix metaphors) in it? You don't have to take a position on the issues - I'm looking more for procedural/policy guidance than finding someone to agree with me.--Bbb23 (talk) 15:29, 16 October 2011 (UTC)

Hi. Well, I saw that at the SPI. It actually doesn't seem entirely accurate to me though because it was the IP speaking on Khukri's talk page that accepted the responsibility in Khukri's voice. I almost said something to Risker about that myself, but decided to drop it. I think you'd have a case that Khukri was avoiding scrutiny - particularly in the ANI thread up until declaring hin/herself to be Khukri. Otherwise, if the Atomises account edited entirely different articles from the Khukri account (and I have not looked to verify if that is indeed the case or not) that is allowed as an alternative account. (I'm not terribly fond of the practice, but it's not barred.) You might want to approach Risker directly...? LadyofShalott 19:37, 16 October 2011 (UTC)

I believe I've just about given up on this issue. User:Risker never responded to my polite query on her Talk page. At ANI, although some admins provided helpful (to me) comments, it just doesn't seem like anyone's really interested in sanctioning User:Khukri for his behavior. Levi Shemtov

Dear LadyofShalott, I reverted the edit you did on Levi Shemtov, where you deleted some of the photos. I tried to explain when I did the undo, but there is (as you know) precious little space to explain an edit (unless there is a trick I don't know), and so I even used "u" for "you" and other abbreviations that I know you do not like! So I apologize for that, and want to explain my revert of your edit here. I agree with you that some of the photos on that article should be deleted (and just saw that one editor is recommending speedy deletion for the entire page, but that's another story) -- but by deciding on the "best" ones to keep, you evidently decided based on how they looked, not how secure they were in terms of remaining on the page. For example, the one photo I uploaded to that page was an official White House photo, and you deleted it - but the ones you left are questionable in terms of copyright: one has been proposed for speedy deletion and the other is marked with a "missing permission" banner. So, although I think you're on the right track, my recommendation is that we not delete photos at this point, until we see which ones survive. If you disagree, and go back and delete them again, I will trust your judgment and not interfere. I thought we had a policy of article titles being in english? /Wikipedia:Naming_conventions#English-language_titles This particular name happens to be mostly readable even with the "thorn" character in the name, but if this was Chinese or Arabic, we would not allow that as the title. Translation of "thorn" as th is completely non contravercial, and if you google the name as I transliterated it, there is a large number of hits on that exact name. (ec)There is some controversy there. As I understand it, we have not come to a real consensus that names written in with characters such as the thorn should always be transliterated. Even if that were the case, I see no reason why you would drop one of the esses from the last name. You say there are (reliable?) sources that spell the name that way. Help needed editing Public library article

Hi LadyofShalott! I just recently edited the Canada section of the Public library article on Wikipedia for a school project (I'm currently completing my MI at the University of Toronto). I've made a number of small edits, which you can see by looking at the article history. Mostly, I put punctuation before ref tags. I also couple of redundant wikilinks. There is one sentence where I think you either left out a word or added an extra one. I've marked that one with an "explain" tag and my question. Hi. A while back you offered to userfy List of important publications in sociology. Now, thanks to a lot of thrashing about by Curb Chain, it has wandered in and out of the main space and his userspace, and is now residing in Wikipedia:WikiProject Science pearls/List of important publications in sociology. The sad thing is, though, that in the process he gutted it of all the publications! I would really appreciate it if you could sort out this mess and restore the content. For now, I think, Wikipedia:WikiProject Science pearls/List of important publications in sociology is as good a location as any. Satar Jabar

Hello, I put the PROD on the Satar Jabar talk page because that was suggested by the Help page on PROD. So I don't think the article was PROD'ed before me. When I technically "blanked" the article it was just a redirect to Abu Ghraib torture and prisoner abuse. The content had already been blanked by a previous editor. I have placed my reasoning for deletion on the Talk:Satar Jabar, rather than a link. I'll check back here for your response.

Hmmm.... I was really hoping to say you could use the NYPL one, but I'm not sure you can. I found this: "In general, the photos in our collections are meant to be used for personal, educational or research purposes. Please remove this false information

This sentence ( from the Negrito wiki) " Haplogroup D (Y-DNA) are found frequently among some peoples living in the same area. In China, stone coffins were used by these peoples " It is completely misleading and FALSE. The sources cited was based on 2 random chinese forum talking about ghosts and negrito. I've checked the reference is actually based from 2 chinese forums. The sources for that sentence is from reference are 17 and 18. One of them says nothing about negrito, in fact the page is not even available, and other is just an random chinese forum with chinese people discussing about ghost and negrito.

The move was undicussedundiscussed and on another "list of important" articles, the relevant wikiproject and an rfc should be created to access weather such "list of important" articles should be turned to bibliographies.

In the deletion review, the List of important publications in biology was restored. I see 2 editors who seem to feel the article should be renamed to Bibliography of biology. As expressed in other articles' talk pages, a separate article can be made.

While the move to the Bibliography title was initially undiscussed, there was a discussion about moving it back, which, as you well know, was closed as no consensus for that move. Howdy! Here are two of the Great Questions of Our Time: "List of works of X" versus "X bibliography"?, and "List of works about X" vs. "Bibliography of X"?

Do you know of anyone who might be able to provide me with a librarian's overview of this? Or a general discussion of the positives/negatives for the issue? Bacon Challenge 2012 Update

Hey! It's been a good few months since the Bacon Challenge 2012 kicked off in June, and I'm pleased to say that decent progress has been made. While we were a bit slow to start, bacon-related contributions have been picking up again, and scores have been rising in the Bacon WikiCup. Here's a quick rundown of the overall positions as they stand:

• 1^st: Silver seren
• 2^nd: Worm That Turned
• 3^rd: Rcsprinter123
• 4th: Doh5678
• 5th: Cirt

Currently, only a handful of participants have reported contributions: to those who haven't, remember, there is still plenty of time left to contribute and rise up in through the positions, as the Challenge and WikiCup run up until March. Just like last year, all participants will receive a shiny medal which they can place on their userpages, or use as a self-esteem booster if need be (just joking...sort of). Cats

Hello LadyofShalott, I noticed you are adding categories to some articles I made some time ago. These cats are useful, but I think there is no need to add both "Butterflies and moths of Africa" AND "Insects of South Africa", since "Butterflies and moths of Africa" is part of "Insects of South Africa" allready. In my opinion it would be best to limit the cat to the "Butterflies and moths of Africa" (i.e. the most precise category). Cheers and keep it up! Ruigeroeland (talk) 15:57, 6 December 2011 (UTC)

No slap down needed: it's a reasonable question. I went on the harsh side because this seems to be an admitted IP-hopping vandal who made a rather harassing edit. Question

If you have the time, I was hoping you could help me. I don't have much experience with GA. My Russian friend and I have collaborated on several extensive Russian articles here. Our best article is on the Nobel Prize winner Ivan Bunin. My main concern is that most of the refs for the Bunin article are Russian language refs. Does it have a shot at GA with these refs? My collaborator has several GA and FA articles on ru.wiki, so his sources are trusted there. One of the reasons I ask is that GA Russian literature related articles are almost non-existant here. The other reason is that there are few or no English language sources on many Russian writers, even relatively major ones. Well, there's the principle and then the practitalities. Sources are reliable or not, it's not dependent on the language. But being able to judge them is, of course. By the way, I don't believe that there are no English sources for Russian writers, but that's beside the point, probably; I'm sure there's fewer than there are Russian sources. So the burden is one of both of the following: find English language sources, or find a reviewer who knows Russian... You might ask at Wikipedia talk:Good article nominations if anyone there can help out. I am useless here, since I've really only used English sources (with the occasional French or German article) for GAs. Lady, do you think Malleus has advice to give here? Persondata data data

Hey, Lady, I noticed a few Persondata additions, and I just wanted to point out that the NAME parameter should generally be DEFAULTSORTish. Now, I don't know if it's supposed to follow all of the weird little rules that apply to DEFAULTSORT, but for simple cases it should be something like Lastname, Firstname. When I fix a DEFAULTSORT, I sometimes apply the same fix to the Persondata, and sometimes I don't. Really, I don't think anybody knows exactly what's supposed to be done with all of the fields in Persondata. For instance, I don't know if birth/death places are supposed to be linked or not. I used to link them, but now I don't. Some day there'll probably be a huge bot run to standardize all of these things. And, yes, my section heading makes perfect sense, as this is data about the data in Persondata. MANdARAX • XAЯAbИAM 10:54, 12 December 2011 (UTC)
