Unnecessary reversion edit

Although I quite often revert IP edits myself, I found your reversion of the IP edit at E-mail spam to be unnecessary. It happened to be me -- I was logged out when I made the edit without realizing it -- and the message you left at the IP talk page saying it was unconstructive was puzzling as I was correcting an obvious factual error. Cheers. 23skidoo (talk) 16:55, 25 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free media (Image:KramerTop 01.jpg) edit

Thanks for uploading Image:KramerTop 01.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 12:27, 5 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Please consider also warning vandals edit

Thank you for reverting vandalism on Wikipedia. Could you also please consider using our vandal warning system [1]? First offenses get a "test1," then a "test2," followed by a "test3" and "test4." At the end of this, if the vandal persists, he or she merits blocking for a period of time. If you do this, it will greatly help us in decreasing vandalism on Wikipedia. Much thanks, -- Kukini háblame aquí 16:18, 16 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

open mail relay edit

Hi. First, I need to apologize for taking way too long, but I have finally gotten around to making at least most of the changes I promised to make weeks ago. As Dean Anderson complained a lot about some of the stuff in the history section, I deleted some more of it. I also added a few points about why open relays were important early on, but once bulk mail detection systems were started to be used, they became far less important.

Again, sorry this took so long. Feel free to hack on it. I still have a few things left on my TODO list, but don't think we will step on each other's toes. Wrs1864 (talk) 00:40, 11 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Please Check the RollerCoaster 3 Tycoon History edit

Writing a legitimate complaint about your conduct is not vandalism. You have made two incorrect accusations concerning the RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 page yet refuse to admit your mistake nor will you issue an apology or reassurance that these threatening messages will cease. There is nothing to be ashamed of, nobody is infallible, all you have to do is just a check the history for said page to confirm that you have made a mistake and then send a short note to confirm that I will not be receiving any more of these baseless and insulting accusations from you. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.2.129.228 (talk) 11:29, 5 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

glitches edit

{{helpme}}1) Every time I try to edit a page, I have to first type a character before I can edit anything.

2) Also, I am unable to start any edits in an entirely empty edit box. I am using a Firefox browser on OSX.

3) Also, I never receive email notification for pages on my watchlist, although I have enabled that function.Thanks.--Mak Allen (talk) 06:42, 6 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hold on, 1) you mean that you cannot save an edit without making changes? That is by design. 2) On the second thing, did you enter your email and confirm it in your preferences box? On 3, what exactly do you mean? ffm 11:33, 6 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for your response.
1) No, I do not mean I cannot save an unedited page. I mean cannot make an edit until I enter a character. For instance, I cannot open the edit box and then just delete a word. I have to type something, and then I can delete a word. However, the problem does not arise in my Safari browser. However, other than the glitch, the functionality is better in Firefox, so I prefer to use that.
2) Yes, My preferences page reads: "Your e-mail address was confirmed on 2007-03-28T18:49:08." If I click on New Section, or Create New Page, I cannot enter anything in the edit box. Instead, what I have to do is either click on Edit Page and add a new section to the entire page of edits, or for creating a new page, I open my Safari browser and that works.
3) As per 3.2 E-mail notification, My preferences in Wikimedia reads: "Your e-mail address was authenticated on 2007-03-28T18:49:08." Also, the toggle box "E-mail me when a page on my watchlist is changed." is checked just below that, and " E-mail notification is enabled." appears on my WM Watchlist.
However, I do not receive notifications. Do you think the problem is that my Wikimedia Watchlist does not show these pages? I have them watched under my WP watchlist, but now I have just copied and pasted most of my WP Watchlist to WM. Perhaps that will do it.
Thanks.--Mak Allen (talk) 04:20, 7 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Singularity (novel) page edit

ffm --

I hope I'm now responding in the correct venue. If not, please advise how better to conduct an "on-wiki discussion."

To begin with: Ouch, is my face red! The page you quoted certainly sounds like me -- or rather sounds like I grabbed a bit of boilerplate, posted it, and never looked back. Reconstructing now, I think what must have happened is that I noticed the "Singularity (novel)" page was a mere stub, and thought: Oh, dear, this will never do. So I padded it out a bit with some ready-to-hand verbiage and promptly flushed the whole episode down the memory hole.

In any case, I sincerely apologize for this faux pas.

Over the next few days I'll try putting together a more substantive contribution, detailing how -- to the extent it (or any work of fiction) can -- Singularity contributes to the ongoing debate over the Tunguska Event. In the meantime, you might be interested in giving a listen to my just-begun "Doctor Jack's Soapbox Seminars" -- a free, nonfiction podcast available at http://www.podiobooks.com/title/doctor-jacks-soapbox-seminars, exploring such topics as the creation of primordial black monopoles, black hole entropy, and whether the Jackson-Ryan hypothesis might be tweaked into something resembling a viable alternative theory of the Tunguska Event.

Dear Firefoxman,

on June 23rd you deleted the Hipeac page I created and to which other people contributed.

According to you, this is due to copyright issues?

Could you please elaborate on this?

I am the project manager of the Hipeac Network of Excellence so I find this a bit strange... If the reason is that certain parts are copied from the Hipeac-website, that is perfectly normal, as I am managing that site.

Washington D.C. Meetup - postponed edit

I've changed the date posted at Wikipedia:Meetup/DC 5 from "August 9th" to "to be determined". A week's notice simply isn't enough. I think it's great that you want to initiate another DC meetup, but please don't pick a date that's less than a month in advance, and please see the suggestions at Wikipedia:Meetup for how to publicize such a meeting. -- John Broughton (♫♫) 21:47, 2 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

No problem, though of course it's not a question of what's a good date per se (I was personally fine with the 9th of August, but it could well have been just you and me at the meetup), but rather how much advance notice there is. A month is, in my mind adequate, as I mentioned above, so yes, the 6th of September is fine, but more importantly is a commitment by whoever calls the meeting to do publicity for it (per the Wikipedia:Meetup page). I see that as a sort of test of the level of interest. Hopefully you have the interest (and time) to do the publicity, but if not, then let's wait for someone else to step up. -- John Broughton (♫♫) 12:31, 4 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Can you grant me Rollback permision? edit

Hi Firefoxman, we have never met but your name is on the list [Category:Wikipedia administrators willing to grant rollback requests]. I have done a lot of reversions of vandalism but I would like to have rollback features. Some times a vandalist makes multiple edits so the use of the [undo] button is useless and a time consuming manual reversion is needed (pressing the undo button for their last edit, copying the "Undid revision 240694234 by..." in the edit summary and going back to the last correct version and pasting the "Undid revision 240694234 by..."). Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Julie Umerle edit

I was extremely surprised by the "No concensus" close of this one, and am raising it here as the first step per the Deletion Review instructions. Lets look at the votes:

  • Weak Keep: DGG, obviously a very well-respected editor, but not especially in visual arts.

Total Keeps 5, of which 4 are highly dubious. All of the SPAs have made several edits to the article - itself highly unusual. Some but not all of these problems were pointed out in the debate.

Johnbod (talk) 02:11, 24 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Comment to Johnbod: May I point out that the decision to keep an article is made on the strength of the argument and not the number of votes. You might wish to note that it was Drmies who voted twice to delete the article. It would seem that Vaishal, who is the main author, followed that example in voting to keep it.
PS. There is no reason why newcomers should not edit an article which they are involved in discussing. I certainly have no need to debate with you my field of expertise in the visual arts.
Thanks for a warm welcome to Wikipedia.
Tshuku (talk) 03:36, 24 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
I didn't count Drmies' "still delete", which I have only just noticed. I didn't go into the strength of the arguments above, but I think there is no contest there either. Johnbod (talk) 10:25, 24 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
I believe then that your time would be better spent in considering the strength of the arguments rather than counting the votes! Tshuku (talk) 12:34, 24 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Upon further review, the article merited deletion, and the AfD updated. ffm 20:09, 24 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks! Johnbod (talk) 20:40, 24 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

I dispute the accusations levelled at all four of the editors who voted to keep this article - User:Vaishal[3], Tshuku [4], Zubrowka, [5]] and Partitas [6]

All four have made contributions to other parts of wikepedia.

The question of 'notability' is the reason this article was first nominated for deletion by User talk:Freshacconci. This has not even been mentioned in the reasons given for its deletion. I understood that there could be a certain amount of flexibility in assessing this, and that the rules were not so hard and fast here as in other matters?

Thank you. Tshuku (talk) 02:48, 26 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Your first edit was to the AfD discussion, as was Zubrowka's, and Partitas was created around the time of the AfD. They all use the same edit summary, "internal links", for a large number of their edits. ffm 02:56, 26 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

And this makes the contributions less valid? Tshuku (talk) 03:18, 26 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Users who have their first edit to an AfD discussion often come under scrutiny, and in addition, the users have very simillar edits ("internal links"). They appear to be by the same person or persons. In any case, the arguments are being weighed, and they had weak ones. If you belive I was errent in my decsion, you can go through the deletion review process. ffm 03:27, 26 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

i am very unhappy to be treated with such suspicion Tshuku (talk) 04:12, 26 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hello Firefoxman, I saw Julie Umerle's work in a show in London on the 20th September. Wanted to know more about her, came across wikepaedia article through google, and was directed to the AfD discussion page to which I contributed. As to the issue of 'internal links'. I am sorry there seems to have been a problem with my contributions.

AfD close for Orbital Defence Initiative edit

You closed this AfD as "no consensus." While there was no clear consensus on whether to delete or to merge, I thought there was an overwhelming consensus not to keep as a separate article. deletion Area 58 edit

Please reconsider.

yes virgina there is an area 58: "The first SDS satellites were placed into highly elliptical "Molniya" orbits to send images from KH-11 electro-optical reconnaissance satellites back to the DCEETA/Area 58 ground station at Ft. Belvoir, Virginia (38d44m10s N, 77d09m30s W). It is possible that some later SDS satellites were placed in geosynchronous orbits and may serve as relays for other NRO satellites, such as Lacrosse." [[]]

or the google books "large windowless two-story building officiallt know as the Defence Electronics Evaluation and Testing Activity DCEETA, and also known as Area 58. While initially Fort Belvoir site was the only downlink.." [[7]] therefore, a published book mentions area 58. it's in my library how about yours?

how unoriginal could i get? Dogue (talk) 16:42, 28 September 2008 (UTC) as to notability, is Menwith Hill notable? is area 51 notable? are the means and methods used to transmit satint to the ground notable?

the concept of Area 58 is falsifiable. is there any source that denies the existance of area 58? is the explanation reasonable?

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Kristen Aldridge edit

I would like to know the reasoning behind why you closed this discussion as "consensus reached" when no one who voted 'keep' responded to rebuttals using actual policy to support the argument to delete. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tmore3 (talkcontribs) 03:19, 29 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

  • I was looking for a little more of an explanation beyond "because there was consensus." Last I checked consensus as far as Wikipedia is concerned goes beyond majority opinion and expects general agreement to arise among parties involved. Not one person appeared to be able to respond to a follow up or support their argument with policy or precedent. Tmore3 (talk) 22:28, 29 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Logo ibmecsp.gif) edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Logo ibmecsp.gif.

Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:41, 3 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

New Alternative Gravity Theory edit

This is a published article for reasons on the talk page. I believe you could be violating your own policies at this point if you are an admin. Please return the article —Preceding unsigned comment added by Slipinski (talkcontribs) 23:38, 8 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

We feel there is no violation of notability policy. This is a novel approach to gravity that has meet the requirements of a well established referred journal for publication, and we understand this article is controversial because it offers an alternative explanation for gravitational effects. You offer information on other alternative theories of gravity that have difficulty predicting the experimental tests of General Relativity. The new gravity theory that we reference has no such problems.Slipinski (talk) 23:56, 8 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Closure of AfD for Bangkok Monorail edit

Hi. You recently closed this AfD discussion as keep, which is understandable, given that at first glance all comments seemed to favour keep. However, I had originally neglected to explicitly state the reasons for deletion when opening the debate, and User:Arsenikk and User:Sjakkalle noted their concerns on the lack of merit for deletion. I subsequently addressed these concerns, disproving the false positives resulting from Arsenikk's Google News searches, and demonstrated failure to establish notability for the article subject. The other editors, however, did not update their comments in regard to this evidence, and User:Blofeld of SPECTRE failed to note on what ground he found the subject to be notable. Given that all the reasons provided by other editors to keep the article have been addressed, I feel that consensus to keep the article could not be established at the time of the closure, and that further comments from editors should have been requested. --Paul_012 (talk) 19:09, 16 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

My point is that, since the other users failed to take into account evidence to the contrary, it was likely premature to conclude that an informed consensus had been established. Since AfD is not a vote, and "justification and evidence for a response carries far more weight than the response itself," I feel that their was no evidence to support the keep recommendations by the time the debate was closed. Do you think I should continue the case in deletion review instead? --Paul_012 (talk) 22:11, 16 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Copy of Kutt Calhoun? edit

The article Kutt Calhoun was deleted earlier in the year (April) due to the fact he didn't meet the notability guidelines for Artists. He recently released his second album (October 7th) and here we are a week later, and it has charted 60th on Billboard's Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums (http://www.billboard.com/bbcom/esearch/chart_display.jsp?cfi=333&cfgn=Albums&cfn=Top+R%26amp%3BB%2FHip-Hop+Albums&ci=3102081&cdi=10022031&cid=10%2F25%2F2008). Thus, he looks to now meet the notability guidelines for Musical Artists, much like the other artists on the label he belongs to.

I was looking to find a copy of what was there previously in the year that would give me a foundation for looking into recreating the article, adding in the new information which would support his notability as well as looking into backing up whatever information may have been there that was questioned. I feel it would be easier for me to get started on it if I was able to start from what was previously there instead of having to start from scratch. I found your account through the "Wikipedia administrators who will provide copies of deleted articles" category, and thus was in hopes you were able to supply a copy of this lost information to get things kick started, meaning I wouldn't have to start it off from scratch. Thanks in advance, whether you do, or if you merely take the time to read this. Mizery Made (talk) 04:40, 17 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

I've slowly been making changes to it, but since the actual page (which redirected to what you ressurected) was just speedy deleted, it might be time to get off my hands before someone goes through and deletes it too. Thus, you said you would take a look, would you mind doing that? I added the information about the album charting, which might establish notability per Wikipedia:Notability (music). The biggest problem I see is the information coming from the bio, which is posted on his MySpace. It's the same one that was on his official website, but they redesigned it. I tried finding it through the Web Archive thing, but since it was a flash site, it doesn't look to have saved the information, just the main flash portion. Either way, lemme know. Request for Review of Walter J. West edit

You were the closing admin for Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Walter J. West. Since the discussion closed, we have discovered that he had a career in the National Football League which most likely qualifies for notability on Wikipedia. I have put together a page in my user space at User:Paulmcdonald/Walter J. West that I would like for you to review.

The page Wikipedia:Deletion review recommends first visiting with the closing admin. If procedureally, we must actually go through a deletion review discussion, then I'm all for that--however, the new information I believe is rather clear.

I think I could just move the page myself, but I don't want to do that without first checking with you and to get your feel on the matter.--Paul McDonald (talk) 20:14, 17 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Redirect of EPRML edit

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on EPRML, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because EPRML is a redirect to a non-existent page (CSD R1).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting EPRML, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. AfC news edit

Dear AfC participant,

  1. Msgj and Tnxman307 are organising the AfC challenge! It's a little competition to help improve some of the articles created through AfC and we are hoping that everyone will get involved. For level 1, you just need to bring a stub up to Start-class. Level 2 is improving a Start-class article to C-class. And so on. To get involved or for more information please see the competition page.
  2. Those of you who haven't reviewed an article recently might not have noticed the new process that was implemented this year. Reviewing articles is now more enjoyable than ever :) You might like to give it a try. All articles waiting for review are in Category:Pending Afc requests. (Please read the updated instructions.)
  3. Please consider adding {{AFC status}} to your userpage to keep track of the number of articles waiting for review. At the time of writing we are officially backlogged, so help is needed!
  4. There is currently a proposal to bring the Images for upload process under the umbrella of WikiProject Articles for creation. The rationale is that both processes are designed to allow unregistered users to take part more fully in Wikipedia, and partipants in each process can probably help each other.

If you no longer wish to receive messages from WikiProject Articles for creation, please remove your name from this list. Thank you.
