National Gold Bank Note

I'd like to reiterate what Andy has already said in that there is no need to delete this article now that it has content and anyone who does is breaking wikipedia guidelines. Just putting the {{stub}} message in and nothing else is grounds for speedy deletion but this is not the case here. In future if you are in the process of working on a page and would like others to leave it alone until you have finished, you can put the {{inuse}} tag into the main body of the article until you have finished, though this should normally only be used for an outside maximum of a few hours. -- Francs2000 | Talk [[]] 15:50, 14 Jun 2005 (UTC)

FRNs

I think I see what you mean-putting all the FRN variations onto the page about FRNs-which isn't a bad idea although it might become quite large, which is why I support separate articles for each issue.

As an aside, it strikes me as strange that the 1963 series is often referred to as the first series. I myself referred to it as that, although I saw a page (BEP or Federal Reserve, I think) that said otherwise. I actually don't know which is correct, I presume that will be found out eventually. WikiProject Numismatics

Dear WikiProject Numismatics member:

You may have noticed the edits made by user:mom2jandk, and you may have also noticed that I have reverted most of them. I would like to leave this note as an explanation.

mom2jandk is a new user and a clearly enthusiastic member of WikiProject:Numismatics. However, he/she has made several changes (specifically to the categorization scheme) that I reverted for various reasons. Among them, he/she:

• Moved most of the articles in Category:United States Mint to Category:United States mints. This seems to serve no purpose; the United States Mint is the proper name of a government agency (that you are all no doubt familiar with) and its category was created as a home for articles relating to it.

• Created Category:United States currency designers. At the moment there does not seem to be anyone in this category who does not already fit into Category:United States Mint engravers, therefore making it a redundant category.

• Created Category:United States Mint officers. This is problematic for several reasons. Firstly, while any number of persons employed by the Mint might be correctly referred to as "officers," I've never seen the term used. Secondly, virtually all of the articles in the category would fit under Category:United States Mint engravers or Category:Directors of the United States Mint. Thirdly, even if there are articles about persons who were neither engravers or directors, there would likely not be enough to warrant a subcategory, and therefore such an article should be placed in Category:United States Mint.

• Created several other categories that either do not fit or fit awkwardly into the categorization scheme.

• Nominated several categories for deletion, including United States Mint, United States Mint engravers, and others.
  • On the deletion vote for Cat:United States Mint, he seems to be confused as to the purpose of the category; it is, as I said, for articles relating to the government agency known as the United States Mint. There are mints in the United States that are not part of the United States Mint (i.e. the Franklin Mint) and his confusion over this fact seems to be the impetus for the nomination.
  • You might also notice that he nominated cat:Directors of the United States Mint; his explanation is that he broadened the category to "United States Mint officers" so that a Superintendent could be included. The "superintendent of the Mint" to which he referred was Roswell K. Colcord, who was superintendent of the Carson City Mint; there is no such office as "superintendent" for the entire United States Mint (or, if there is, it is distinct from Director of the Mint.)

After reading this fairly lengthy message, you might get the impression that I am attacking either mom2jandk or his/her edits; this is not the case. I have a great deal of admiration for him/her as a new user who is not afraid to jump in and try to improve Wikipedia and the Numismatics project. I hope he/she continues to contribute, and I believe he/she has a great deal to offer. This message is quite long because I wanted to explain the specifics of the categories (many of which, incidentally, were created by me.)

Note that I placed merge tags on most of mom2jandk's categories.

It goes without saying that, if there are any categories that should be altered and/or deleted, by all means make such changes, regardless of whether I or anyone else created them; neither I nor my edits are perfect.

Apologies for using he/she; I assume mom2jandk's user name reflects her role as a mother but I wasn't completely certain.

Olympics correction

Howdy, I see that you corrected the number of olympic atheletes from Iran. I doublechecked the torino2006.org Summary by IOC where I found the information, and it says 2 men and 0 women. Is that not right? Cacophony 08:11, 14 February 2006 (UTC)

1. 2 only helps my arguement that these nickanmes should be included since they are not a list of either a)quotations, b) aphorisms, c) persons. Instead it would fall under the fourth category of being a viable list since it is famous BECAUSE of the topic. Your reasoning for reverting the edits is both unreasonable and unfounded. Templates in USD article

I am curious as to why you removed the AsianCurrencies template from the United States dollar article. Given that it's the official currency of of East Timor, the Marshall Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia and Palau, as well as in the various US insular areas in the Pacific, I'd say that the template merits inclusion (or at the very least, shouldn't be considered vandalism :-P ). – Swid ^{(talk | edits)} 15:52, 25 April 2006 (UTC)

Hey, if you've checked your history, I asked for help on Wikipedia:Featured picture candidates/FOUREFFIGIES, which was removed. I have an itch to get a numismatics pic featured, currently only Image:United States penny, obverse, 2002.jpg is. Would you like me to list Image:Demand Note$.jpg for Wikipedia:Featured picture candidates, or do you think we should try a new one. 6 kinds of United States paper currencies

Hi,

I found out about you today. Umm, let me introduce myself. I, too, am interested in currency, more world wide than country-specific, more banknote than coin. I am a strong advocate of template and consistency, creator of Template:Infobox Currency. I read about the website that explains the 6 different kinds of US dollar banknotes before. But I never got the chance to understand them all. But I think it would be good if we list them in Template:US currency and coinage. Casual reader may think Federal Reserve Bank Note = Federal Reserve Note. If we put them next to each other, then the distinction is clear, and curious people will click and gain the knowledge. And correct me if I'm wrong, the bills we see in the movie "Catch me if you can" included United States Notes. So what do you think? --Chochopk 05:20, 8 July 2006 (UTC)

User:DieYuppieScum/I hope Israel gives 'em what's coming

I won't go into your user name, but userspace pages are not your private website where you can express your opinions as you like. They are intented for project-related work, and Israel giving 'em what's coming is not related to Wikipedia, plus it's quite a rude comment considering that, regardless of intentions and circumstances, hundreds of people who had nothing coming to them have died in last two weeks. I think that this is a case of misinformation. If you had looked at the subpage, you would have seen that it was a draft for an article I was writing about United States currency, and not about Israel (it was just a random title). Further, I created this subpage title when this current Israel/Hezbollah conflict started because I felt that terrorist groups attacking Israel need to be destroyed. Yes, this has created violence/death on both sides, but life is a series of sacrafises that sometimes are hard and, well, just plain suck. And finally, I stand by my opinion and don't think that stating that Israel should give them what's coming is rude. What's rude is that terrorists attack indscrimently and, in this case, use the population of Southern Lebanon as a human shield. It's rude that terrorists insite violence in a world that wants peace (well a great majority atleast). Infact, it's more than rude, it's wretched. Terrorists mostly don't use Wikipedia user pages to further their goals, so there's not much I or Wikipedia can do about terrorists directly. But I can call something offensive when it is, and that page title is offensive. The people that are "getting it" are humans, just like you and me. Celebrating their deaths and calling for more is highly distasteful, especially from a safe distance where you don't have either to see or do the killing. List of United States Presidents by currency appearances

In the Washington section, I replaced the Lafayette Memorial coin photo with the State Quarter obverse to match the coins in circulation. I thought it might be okay considering there were two commemoratives in the same section. Since you put it there I thought I might bring it up. The Lafayette coin could be switched with the gold coin as well. Also, Interest Bearing Note does not have an article. Apparently, it was deleted or it never existed. I can find information on the net, but I can't find it in Wikipedia. Maybe the info could be added to Compound Interest Treasury Note since the page is so small. 2019 US Banknote Contest

There are an estimated 30,000 different varieties of United States banknotes, yet only a fraction of these are represented on Wikimedia Commons in the form of 2D scans. Additionally, Colonial America, the Confederate States, the Republic of Texas, multiple states and territories, communities, and private companies have issued banknotes that are in the public domain today but are absent from Commons. In the months of November and December, WikiProject Numismatics will be running a cross-wiki upload-a-thon, the 2019 US Banknote Contest. The goal of the contest is to increase the number of US banknote images available to content creators on all Wikimedia projects. Participants will claim points for uploading and importing 2D scans of US banknotes, and at the end of the contest all will receive awards. Whether you want to claim the Gold Wiki or you just want to have fun, all are invited to participate.
