Your contributed article, Dream Theater's eleventh studio album edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, I notice that you recently created a new page, Dream Theater's eleventh studio album. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page - A Dramatic Turn Of Events. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at A Dramatic Turn Of Events - you might like to discuss new information at the article's talk page.

If you think that the article you created should remain separate, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion," which appears inside of the speedy deletion ({{db-...}}) tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate). Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. Cind.amuse 07:39, 8 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

Storm Corrosion and sources edit

I suppose it'd be easier to write on your talk page than through edit summaries. What I was getting at, is that Youtube videos are to be avoided for a couple reasons.

  1. It fails WP:SPS, there is no "editorial oversight" confirming that the information is true. I know, watching the video confirms it's really them, but what if the uploader was dishonest? What if they did some video editing, and altered some of the dialogue? Or removed a segment that altered the overall meaning or context. Because some random user did it, we can't know for sure. It's the same reason we don't use random messageboard quotes.
  2. It fails WP:COPYVIO. Basically, it's not Youtube's video, it's Blabbermouth's video. They should receive credit, because it is their work. Youtube may not have the rights to such a video.

Both cases show why it'd be better to find the Blabbermouth original videos; Blabbermouth is a wikipedia reliable source, it's in its original form, and they have the legal rights to it. Sergecross73 msg me 18:22, 27 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Citations and date formats edit

Hi. I couldn't help but notice all the contributions you have made to Mass Effect 3, and these are much appreciated. However, there are a few issues (which may or may not be exclusive to you, I haven't checked the history thoroughly enough yet) with the manner in which you have cited your sources.

The first is date formatting: dates on Wikipedia may only be presented in a limited number of formats, which you have not adhered to in your citations. Taking "the 2nd of January 2011" as an example, it may only be formatted as either 2 January 2011 or January 2, 2011 in the prose (with the former only allowed in articles written in British/Irish/Australian etc English, and the latter only in North American English). In citations, those same formats may be used along with 2011-01-02 (i.e. yyyy-mm-dd, i.e. year-month-day); no other formatting/ordering is permitted since it can cause confusion (01/02/11, the format you have used, means January 2, 2011 in the US, but in most of the rest of the world means 1 February 2011). For more information, see WP:DATESNO.

It would also be helpful if you could use the {{cite web}} template, since it is easier to update (with archive urls etc) and ensures consistent formatting.

Orphaned non-free media (File:Shep and IM.jpg) edit

Thanks for uploading File:Shep and IM.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:14, 3 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

No. I was attempting to tackle the Tours section; and all its related articles. I've found that there's really no continuity among them. Layout, formatting, some list set lists some don't etc... Was wondering if you had time, you'd take a look, offer some thoughts. Also, I made this recommendation here: Images_and_Tour. LeBron James editing edit

Thanks for your efforts to clean up LeBron James. You seem to be removing a lot of detail with your cleanup. Are you sure this is the right thing to do?--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 06:15, 19 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Tony, thank you for noticing the clean-up! Removing detail is always hard to do, but I believe that if that article is ever to get to GA status, some fat needs to be trimmed. At the end of the day, we don't really need things like, "LeBron scored 30 points that game, becoming the sixth player to do so since X, Y, and Z". We don't want to remove detail, but we also don't want to include information that only die-hards would appreciate.--Ktmartell (talk) 03:11, 20 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
I generally agree with Ktmartell. My only caveat would be areas that are mentioned multiple times outside of WP:ROUTINE game recaps. WP:CONTINUEDCOVERAGE would seem to filter out a lot of random statistics and trivial facts.—Bagumba (talk) 17:07, 27 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

LeBron James edit

After a quick look, I would say you are close. The obvious referencing concerns I brought up in the GA review appear to be handled. You still need to cite the salary table and awards, however. A citation for his career statistics would be preferable. For my hockey articles, I tend to cover that with a general citation (as noted in the references section of this example). Overall though, I would say you are definitely very close to being there. Cheers! Resolute 04:48, 28 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

LeBron James Category edit

Hi Ktmartell, Should I add LeBron James to the category National Basketball association players or will that be repetitive since it already mentions the NBA in another category?

In addition, why did you take off the "in the world" I said have led many basketball analysts, experts, and writers to consider him the best player in the NBA today and in the world ? You didn't state a reason when you edited it.

Robert (talk) 20:23, 24 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi Rob. Unfortunately, I am not sure whether you should add LeBron to the National Basketball association players category. To be honest, I'm not even sure what that is!

The reason why I removed "in the world" is not because it's wrong. LeBron is obviously the best in the world! It's just that on Wikipedia, that kind of thing is a little over-the-top. If you disagree, please feel free to take it to the LeBron Talk section and see what others have to say. I don't mean to be rude for taking it out, I just know that Featured Article reviewers are real fussy over that sort of thing.--Ktmartell (talk) 03:04, 26 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Kevin Durant edit

Kevin Durant's scoring spree was quoted specifically as "in modern NBA history" rather than simply "unprecedented" which like I said in my edit summary implies all of NBA history. That would obviously be an incorrect term because Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant have gone on similar streaks before, also Wilt Chamberlain scored 50+ points in 61 consecutive games during the 1961-62 season. Darren1988c (talk) 19:38, 26 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

I don't really feel like going back to read the article, but I believe the gist of it was that Durant was scoring with an efficiency we've never really seen. Don't really care that much either way. Do whatever you think's best.--Ktmartell (talk) 03:18, 28 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

Examples edit

  • "For its lead single, "The Enemy Inside", the band received their second consecutive Grammy nomination in the Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance category." This could be reworded to flow better.
  • "In early 2014, Dream Theater toured Europe and America in support of the album and recorded their performance at the Boston Opera House for a live release." This could be split into two sentences. Stop at "in support of the album" and mention the live release's title in the next sentence.
  • "The band made Dream Theater a self-titled album to emphasize that they were moving forward in their career and to make it a reference point for fans." Is the "reference point" really important enough to be in the lead?
  • "Dream Theater is the twelfth studio album by American progressive metal band Dream Theater, released through Roadrunner Records on September 23, 2013, in Europe and a day later in the United States." That's way too long. Stop after "Dream Theater" and then "It was released through..." and remove the second comma.

I found all these in the lead, and various others in the body. This is all I have time for at the moment, when I get home in about 45 minutes I'll give you more examples of weak prose. dannymusiceditor Speak up! 18:02, 31 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

  • "During soundchecks, the band would jam and record their ideas, and guitarist John Petrucci would try out independently composed material." "Try out" feels informal and unencyclopedic.
  • "They did not enter the recording studio until January 2013, returning to Cove City Sound Studios in Glen Cove, New York, where they recorded A Dramatic Turn of Events." The entire first part can be deleted. try "In January 2013, they returned to..." and mention how long it took (May, according to the infobox).
  • "During the studio sessions, every band member's instrument was miked and captured as they were writing so that they could simulate ahead of time exactly how the music would sound when it was eventually recorded." Miked and captured? If possible, can you reword this so a non-music expert can understand what's going on? "Simulate" as well? Is that really the word you're looking for? And "eventually recorded." Unless I'm mistaken, they're already recording by this point, so "officially" recorded might be better.
  • I now notice you do have the end of the recording there. But I'd still say move it up to where I initially suggested.

More to follow. And I take back what I said about the sources - It's just that I've never seen them before, and it's unusual that they'd post about music. dannymusiceditor Speak up! 14:49, 1 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

RE: Work on Mass Effect edit

Hello and thank you for your reply and interest! Unfortunately, I don't plan to improve the article anytime soon. The problem is that Mass 3 is a bigger game than Mass 2, with bigger DLCs, bigger marketing campaign, bigger reception, and bigger controversy. It also has a multiplayer mode that should be covered properly. Right now I don't have any motivation to do it, but never say never. --Niwi3 (talk) 20:27, 17 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

"Mass Effect Trilogy" edit

"The trilogy has never been officially named the "Commander Shepard trilogy", so I think that the safe move is to undo this edit and leave as the "Mass Effect trilogy"

If it really was a trilogy, then why there are "4" major Mass Effect games? (The fourth entry being the stand-alone sequel: Mass Effect: Andromeda, which doesn't include Commander Shepard.) 112.211.11.218 (talk) 15:58, 6 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

Apologies for the late reply. As far as I know, Mass Effect 1-3 comprise what is known as the Mass Effect Trilogy. As an example, Electronic Arts - the publisher of the franchise - has the collection listed as such on their online store, Origin (https://www.origin.com/usa/en-us/store/mass-effect/mass-effect-trilogy).--Ktmartell (talk) 01:49, 21 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
