Categories and Commons edit

I've just been fixing the categories on the likes of File:Canadian Army CIC-collected.svg. Just as a pointer, if you've got any CC-licensed images then they are better on http://commons.wikimedia.org/ where they will be accessible to all Wikiprojects and not just this one. Also there's a different philosophy of categorising over there, since images are Commons' main focus they are far more detailed and will categorise by elements of the picture and metadata, whereas on Wikipedia there's just a handful of pretty general categories specifically for images. I've just found Category:Wikipedia images of insignia which would be appropriate in this case.
Another thing is that per WP:REDNOT you shouldn't add red links to categories that don't exist, which is the opposite of the policy for articles where red links are encouraged. Also categories follow article names, so if there's no article for eg Crown of St Edward then there shouldn't be a category of that name (in fact the article is at St Edward's Crown but there's no category of that name). Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Unite to Win logo - Jeremy Hunt.svg edit

Thank you for uploading File:Unite to Win logo - Jeremy Hunt.svg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.

This bot DID NOT nominate any file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 01:00, 8 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

LUA/Template help edit

Hi,

I have a page on a separate wiki, and I've come to my final resort of asking you Wikipedians (which I probably can't do, but I desperately need the help).

If you take a peek at the usage of the template on MicroWiki, Template:Infobox royalty/wp, you'll notice the header for the reign(1-9) is not showing, and hence the data is centred in the infobox. It randomly started doing that and I don't know how to fix it.

Thank you so much,

Here at Wikipedia we can only help you with issues related to Wikipedia. You might be able to get some advice at the Reference Desk, or use Google to get assistance with the software/programming that runs that wiki. 331dot (talk) 15:17, 8 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
@331dot: I've tried that, but it came back dry, hence why I asked on here. There's no way someone can help me here, eh?

I'll leave this open so some other eyes are on it. 331dot (talk) 15:32, 8 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
I'd change the correspponding labels (i.e. label2, label9, label21 and so on. Those seem needlessly complicated to me and seem designed to ensure backwards compatibility with... something. Does that something even exist on MicroWiki? I can't tell. I'd remove the code there and replace it with something more straightforward in line with the other labels:
| label2 = {{#if:{{{reign-type|}}}|{{{reign-type}}}|Reign}}
At worst you'll lose some functionality that apparently was designed to make the label say "Tenure" in some cases. Huon (talk) 20:41, 8 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of File:Flag of Tentacion.svg edit

The file File:Flag of Tentacion.svg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Unused flag of unnotable micronation. No obvious use.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. --Minorax«¦talk¦» 14:34, 24 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
