Diplazium

Hi, I stumbled across your question to Jaknouse (talk · contribs) about the classification of the fern genus Diplazium. I looked this up in the Smith 2006 paper (now cited there) and found out that: (1) Diplazium is probably paraphyletic (which means that it may well be split up or expanded in the future, although as far as I know this hasn't happened yet), and (2) the family Woodsiaceae as recognized in Smith is quite possibly paraphyletic, although Smith 2006 considers the evidence to not yet be clear (even if it is to be split, one has to know how to split it). Given this, I'm not sure there are any clear answers (one way or the other), and if so wikipedia should just note the uncertainty and try not to take a position too much one way or the other. HS1

Don't know where you are getting your info on the HS1, but it's almost entirely wrong. HS1 is not new, it's been in ECE Regulation 37 and in production for many decades. It is not a replacement at the design or service level for H4 or any other bulb type. It is not "the standard bulb for new two-wheeled vehicles" in the USA or any other country. The H4 is not "older styled" than the HS1. The base keying differences between P43t (H4) and PX43t (HS1) have nothing to do with pins or sockets. Please try to contribute only factually accurate, verifiable information supported with appropriate citations to Wikipedia; in this case the information is very simple to get so there's really no reason to substitute what appear to be random, half-informed guesses. 20:26, 17 March 2010 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.26.89.104 (talk)

The error was not the manufacturer's, it was yours. The information you found applies only to India, which very recently began phasing in the application of ECE Regulation 37. The text on the page you found described a market situation in India, not a state of the technical art in general. Even there, "new" is not accurate; HS1 bulbs were in wide use in motorcycles in India the last time I was there scrutinizing the local mobile lighting industry five years ago. It seems the page you found is out of date. Nevertheless, my objection remains: please don't just parrot what you think you understand of a website you happen to find. If you do not know enough about the subject to be sure whether what you found is accurate at all, and/or is accurate in the whole world or only in a particular part of it, please raise the issue on the talk page. I Read some articles on the Tickling the Dragons Tail experiments and was always wondering who might be that stupid to pile up enough material that it becomes critical, but after reading I found out that some times things go a little wrong and if you deal with normal' stuff you say ooops and every thing is OK, in nuclear chain reaction experiments you see the blue flash. Buy the way do you know the film where one guy steps up in front of a party, opens a case and smashes two uranium or plutonium spheres together above his head?

Your article came up on a watch list User:AlexNewArtBot/ChemistrySearchResult of chemistry related articles and I always do a little incoming inspections on the new article there (except the BLPs).

Yes, I agree that the seeming margin of error combined with the high cost of such errors makes nuclear chemistry an "interesting" place to be. The idea of a demon core and of tickling the tail of a sleeping dragon are both romantic and vividly accurate representations of this delicacy. I wish I could read the full text of the first reference article you gave me, the one by P.S. Harris from 1961-- sadly, it appears to only be available to people with institutional or personal memberships (I don't suppose YOU have access to the article??). Hi, I have just had to revert your edit on Cutty Sark because in the process of doing it you deleted 95% of the page (it went from 26kb to 2kb, so maybe my percentage figure is wrong, but you'll get the idea <g>) Not quite sure how you did this without spotting it but, regardless, feel free to go back in there and re-enter whatever your edit may have been. I'm fairly sure that an image of a copyrighted cover is copyrighted. (On the other hand, merely taking an image of a two-dimensional non-copyrighted work does not constitute artistic input sufficient to create copyright. Learn something new every day!) Well, then, let's see if it stands, shall we? I think there's also a method of claiming fair use of a copyrighted imaged based on the unique, unreproduceable nature of the image and the idea that the information contained in the image could not be generated in any way other than using the original image itself (the Wikipedia article on the Mediterranean dromon contains an image that is justified on these terms, I believe). In either case, I think there might be a fair use argument. And the article certainly lacks completion without having the image of the pamphlet included with it. I proposed it for deletion because, as I noted in my comments, the article included no citations and no explanation as to why this individual was at all notable. As it stands, the only reference now in the article is one in Ukrainian, not English. Perhaps an article about his individual belongs in the Ukrainian Wikipedia and not the English one-- a citation in a foreign language is not verifiable to an English-speaking audience, and therefore is of limited use here. Got your messages. With regard to the second item first, I did not intend to suggest that foreign language references should not be permitted in the English Wikipedia, but when the only reference in an article is in a foreign language that I (and most English Wikipedia users) cannot read (in this case, Ukranian, I believe), then the reference does not seem to meet the criterion of being verifiable-- and therefore the article might be better located in (and restricted to) a wikipedia of that language specifically rather than in the English one where the reference (again, the only reference) is in a foreign tongue that English speakers cannot verify. Please let me know if that makes sense. It made sense to me at the time. As I re-think it, I still feel that way. You?? And Blue Jays... We are capitalizing them now? It appears that you recently tried to give Cliff Parker a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into another page with a different name. This is known as a "cut and paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is needed for attribution and various other purposes. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page. This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. The Devil in Drag

I've deleted and restored, there shouldn't be any non-visible edits now. What, if anything, do you think should be done about the article? It's by an author even I have heard of, and although it's self-serving on the part of the translator, it's not actually spam. Nevertheless, there is no assertion of why the play, as opposed to its author, is notable, it's basically a plot summary. I don't think it can be speedied, so it's probably AfD or nothing. Jim: I've been mulling this over in my mind for more than a week now, giving it probably far more attention than it deserves. But I now have some settled thoughts, and wanted to share with you:

1.) The article has been moved to "The Devil in Drag" as opposed to its original title, "The Devil with Boobs." As ridiculous as the latter is, it appears that it is the actual title under which the play has been produced in the U.S. Weirdly, I happen to live just a few short blocks down the street from the Open Fist Theater Company which is one of the companies which has actually produced the play (and done so under its "boobs" title). "The Devil in Drag" is not a play by Dario Fo— "The Devil with Boobs", however, is (ugh) and this means the article should probably be re-titled/ moved back to its original location under "The Devil with Boobs" (I have never done such a move backwards— do you know how?).

2.) I have found no evidence as yet that the play is noteworthy as a stand-alone piece, and even less evidence that the translator warrants any notability. I wonder, though, as a play written by a Nobel prize winner, if it does not deserve an article for reasons of authorship alone. My guess is that it probably does (even if the play itself is rather ridiculous and even if it is an insignificant piece of literature, which I am not altogether certain it is).

If these things make sense to you, then it would probably be best if the article were moved back to "The Devil with Boobs," and then left as it is (without further deletion consideration/ discussion). Well, those were all on Highbeam, but yes, they all eventually mention it. The passing mentions such as show notices won't really establish notability, but they don't hurt to bolster it or to flesh out the article once it has been established. Pogrom

Hi there, i just saw your edits. There are a group of editors on this page who will likely revert you shortly. If you have time to get involved in a talk discussion on the page it would be very helpful, as I have been alone trying to bring some rational balance to the page for over a year without success. I even tried to get some rationality into a separate page (User:Oncenawhile/Definitions of Pogrom), which was speared by the same group of editors. Oncenawhile (talk) 19:36, 11 June 2013 (UTC)

I take it you mainly mean my removal of the reference to the 38CE "pogrom" in Alexandria (I didn't think most of my edits were much other than stylistic or informative, but this particular one certainly was). It was, of course, unsourced to begin with, and though I initially was only going to add a citation-needed tag, the (in my mind) ridiculousness of using the term in that context made me take the bolder step of simply removing it as the creative thinking of some new editor who was not familiar with the Wikipedia process of substantiating claims, especially controversial ones like that. I do understand, however, that the topic of pogroms is a very sensitive one, and that rationality can be a difficult voice to maintain in the face of so much historic carnage, especially if one feels personally connected to that history (which, other than as a student of history, I do not). I will have a look at the talk page you mentioned and see what I can see... I DO know that I AM rather personally connected to my work here on Wikipedia, and having it undone sometimes does cause me to lose a certain amount rationality, which is a character flaw of mine, I admit. You can actually, check out WP:Twinkle. Using it, you can enter your deletion rationale, and it then tags the article, creates the discussion, and adds it to the AfD log. I've kludged a fix into place. I clarified the sentence in WP:Notability a bit to compensate for the material I stripped from the Alexa article. Well, since we're positive that these are multiple people, they are technically meatpuppets, and CU confirms this and thus is nearly worthless here. That doesn't mean that we can't still block them; we certainly can, but it's technically not sockpuppeting and thus SPI isn't the best place; also, the mass numbers of accounts just couldn't be handled by our system. --09:13, 4 September 2013 (UTC)

...And in the end I suppose it doesn't really matter much, does it: since most Morning277 accounts (including those I just reported) are abandoned once they have met their sinister purpose, formally deleting them or blocking them isn't likely to be noticed by anyone, even the account creators. Maybe I should just stick to addressing the articles themselves and leave the associated user accounts to wither on their own (and not bother SPI with them— sorry about that!). What the heck: sure. Put me in as K.D. Schroeder. Also, while I have your attention, does "MP" mean... "Main Page"? Or does it stand for something else? (er, I dunno... like... "Manual Portal"? "Miscellaneous Photographs"? "Man-made Pyrotechnics"?) Wikipedia is full of initialisms and I wanted to be sure. And if MP does mean "Main Page", does this mean that you have the personal ability to determine what gets placed there? (Such powers! If so, I am in awe). Lastly, the second image I created that also made it through FP candidacy, File:C elegans male.svg, is actually a better overall image (of the male version) of the same species of creature— if I were to choose, I'd consider the it to be more worthy of highlighting than the hermaphrodite. • Either one is fine, so I'll schedule the male (though this means the hermaphrodite will be at least a year, as the same article should generally not be given a bolded link in Picture of the Day more than once a year). MP in this case means "main page", right. Sorry about that, force of habit.

I've been selecting the Picture of the Day since January 2013. Howcheng (who replied to your post at that long-dead discussion) was handling it before then, but he seemed to be quite busy so I offered to step up. It's actually not that much power, as we're limited to choosing extant featured pictures (not ones which haven't passed) and have to consider the community's reaction. Dream of the Fisherman's Wife (NSFW) is one which would most certainly not go on the MP, for instance, even though it is a featured picture. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 22:42, 26 September 2013 (UTC)

You know, I would have no problem abdicating the hermaphrodite image from the POTD lineup altogether. Having the male being highlighted is an honor all its own, and the hermaphrodite, while still a pretty neat picture, is repetitive of the worm theme anyway. Plus I know there's a huge backlog of images for POTD, and I don't see any reason to crowd it with that. You can consider me taken care of.

Hi, I noticed you did not like the way I wrote the article Stephen Bustin, because you stated that " Wikipedia citations are supposed to be about the article content, not citations to its subject's work." Got your message. Basically (though not definitively) any reference that has Bustin as an author shouldn't be used as a citation for an article on Mr. Bustin. As the article stands right now (Oct. 7 2013) this would include numbers 3,5, 9, 11, 12, 13, 14, and 15. The references in the article should consist of secondary sources— that is, sources in which Bustin's work is discussed, not primary sources— those in which Bustin himself helped generate.
