Popeye the Sailor (Warner DVD series)

Despite your verdict that the article Popeye the Sailor (Warner DVD series) should be kept, User talk:FuriousFreddy went ahead and created a redirect to the Popeye article. Can you talk to him? Steelbeard1 (talk) 11:50, 28 November 2008 (UTC)

I merely followed the suggestion of Girolamo Savonarola (talk · contribs), the lead coordinator for WikiProject Flms, which has jurisdiction over these articles. His comments from the afd:
"Merge to Popeye article - the series is notable, the DVD series is manifestly not. Creating article pages for every boxset and repackaging of content is not appropriate; relevant information should be merged to the appropriate topics. Also note that AfD precendent with regard to DVD sets has generally been to merge to the main topic, and the existence of other articles is considered an "argument to avoid in deletion discussions". Some of us in WikiProject Films have already identified these other articles for upcoming merges or AfDs as appropriate."

This basically means that the article would very likely be nominated again for AfD or, merged without a nomination, especially seeing as how it duplicates content in Popeye#Home video, and is otherwise not up to quality as it is. --FuriousFreddy (talk) 14:33, 28 November 2008 (UTC)

No editor has "jurisdiction" over an article, even if they are the coordinator of a Wikiproject. However, although it seemed that the AfD did generate a consensus to keep the article, merging it was also a viable option. So, I'm not opposed to it being merged, if that's what the Wikiproject has agreed on. –Juliancolton Tropical Cyclone 15:10, 28 November 2008 (UTC)

I've left some comments at your FAC. They are comments rather than an oppose - I know you are not making a pointy nomination, but you surely realise it will attract attention as a test case. Anyway, I wanted to let you know I probably won't be around much for the next few days, so don't be surprised or offended if I don't follow-up on any responses. Ken Fogarty

Hey there, I noticed you making a bunch of reverts on Ken Fogarty, and being that the vandalized revisions contain personal information, I was wondering if you could delete the revisions and then place a request at WP:RFO for them to be Oversighted, I would do it myself but being that your an administrator, you can delete the revisions by deleting the page and then not restoring the revisions that have personal information in them; which is better than me just filing an RFO and waiting for it to be filed while the diffs are still publicly accessible, which according to WP:RFO if possible is to be avoided favoring deletion and then oversight rather than just requesting the Oversight while the diffs are still publicly available :). • .. you're probably too young to remember that commercial... although I think it may actually have been "who wears short shorts?"
  • Anyhow, I won't be reviewing the article we've talked about... partly 'cause I'm really really busy, but also partly 'cause I've publicly staked out a position against short shorts. Best of luck. Ling.Nut (talkWP:3IAR) 04:30, 29 November 2008 (UTC)

Tropical Storm Erick (2007)

I was going to post this at WT:FAC, but I didn't want to add to the drama, so I thought I'd drop it here instead. I wanted to tell you that the article is certainly not boring. If nothing else, it's too short—and yes, well-written—to be that. But what did cross my mind was that were I to review Erick I'm not sure I could support its promotion—for entirely different reasons. I'm just not 100% convinced that this particular tropical cyclone article satisfies the general notability guideline. As the guideline states, "it takes more than just a short burst of news reports about a single event or topic to constitute evidence of sufficient notability." I'm aware that tropical cyclones receive coverage outside the regular news sources, by tracking agencies, in journals and studies and the like, but for me the lasting and in-depth coverage of Erick simply isn't there. What we do have is "a short burst of reports" dated almost exclusively from the period of the cyclone's activity. And with its having an entirely benign influence on human affairs, is further significant coverage in sources able to demonstrate its notability likely to appear? I know that WP:WPTC has agreed that each cyclone is deserving of its own article, but to be fair, individual Wikiproject practice is not always the best judge of these things (I mean, just look at how almost every member of Wikiproject Saw (yes, Saw!) came out to !vote to keep the article on Saw VI, only days after the fifth film's release). Please don't take this personally; I'm not about to nominate it for AfD or anything similarly-pointy, but I am genuinely interested in your view on this. All the best, Steve TC 22:41, 2 December 2008 (UTC)

Merging

Well, I didn't oppose, because I'm not sure it's a sufficiently good reason to oppose. I have no complaints about the article; I've not read it with a copyeditor's eye yet, but I'm prepared to believe it meets most or all of the FA criteria. So my comment was intended as part of the discussion there about whether or not the article "should" be merged. I don't quite see how one can argue "should", at the moment; that is, as you just said at WT:FAC, a question of article presentation, whereas FAC is concerned with the article as it stands.

Perhaps it would have been better to place the comment on the article's talk page? Certainly that's where a merge discussion would take place. It seemed more sensible to put the comment on the FAC, where ongoing discussion is happening.

As to why it should be merged: to be honest, I think I've changed my mind on this since my own failed short article FAC, but here's my argument as it stands today: I feel that a reader is not worse off if they find the information they seek embedded in a more general article. A separable topic that is only worthy of a very short treatment doesn't do the reader any favours by residing in a separate article. There are minor kings of Wessex, for example, such as Ceol of Wessex, who I think should be treated either in the history section of the Wessex article, or possibly in a new Minor Anglo-Saxon kings article or something similar.

I'd be interested in your views too; I'll be watching the FAC and WT:FAC so no need to respond to me on user talk if you'll be duplicating comments there. Mike Christie (talk) 02:27, 3 December 2008 (UTC)

Country outlines

We are getting closer to completion.

Dinobot has joined the team, and is filling in some of the blanks on these pages (population so far, and soon will move on to size, and other entries where feasible). This is and will continue to save us many man hours of manual editing. Woohoo!

I'm about to host races between pairs of opponents. The first race sort of fell flat - the partipants had no imagination and let their time zone difference get them down. The next race will take time zones into account. Details, details. Jeesh.  :) By the way, Penubag is working on an award for the winners of these. Should be good.

User:Zlerman has joined the team, and is working on Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

The project keeps growing, as it turns up problems in country coverage, such as chaotic article naming, screwed up data formatting, etc. Current branching out includes creating redirects for country adjectivals, changing country cuising titles to the adjectival form, and fixing the formatting of CIA demographic data.

Speaking of country adjectivals...

Whats up!!!?

The Transhumanist    03:36, 3 December 2008 (UTC)

Good to know that we're getting people (and bots) interested in this project.
Erm, well, I've finished adding adjectives to the articles themselves, but the whole redirect bit is slightly confusing (and controversial, apparently). I can't find your previous post in my talk page archives, so could you briefly let me know what the heck I'm supposed to be doing? :) Thanks. –Juliancolton Tropical Cyclone 03:43, 3 December 2008 (UTC)
Thank you for adding the adjectivals to the country outlines. Nicely done.
But we moved on to another task, remember? There's a slight problem with the links that needs fixing. Most of them redirect to the corresponding country article.
I've replaced about 100 of them with redirects. I've also been editing existing dabs. I've also moved a page or three.
None of the replacements have been reverted to their redirect versions. So you'll be concentrating on replacing the remaining redirects only. They're non-controversial.
Let me worry about the rest (revisions of existing dabs and page moves) - they get resolved on a case-by-case basis.
To create a country adjectival dab, use {{subst:dp cadj|adjectival|country name}}.
That'll create a rough draft. You'll need to correct each one after you create it, as the template does not fit most situations perfectly. Countries can be very eccentric.  :)
For example, the template says there is no language by that name. You'll need to check via google for any language or dialect by that name.
The list of adjectivals can be found at User:The Transhumanist/Sandbox20#table of country adjectives.
I think we left off in the Ks or Ls. I started the Ns, but got sidetracked. (You know how that goes).  :)
Good luck, have fun, and...
Thank you!
The outlines wouldn't have gotten this far without your help.

Sam Kellaway

You deleted the page Sam Kellaway as I was busy putting a talk item attached to it.

The name Sam Kellaway has already been regarded as 'notable' on the page Surnames 'Kellaway'. It is listed as one of 8 notable people who have the name Kellaway. All but 6 of those names have a link to a biographical page. I was trying to link a page to that particular reference that is already in the system. At least the person who originally drew up that surname page beleived the poet Sam Kellaway was notable and the reference was not removed.

My poetry pen name is 'Sam Kellaway'

If I have completely misunderstand this process perhaps you can explain how I can achieve the objective.

No Jacket Required: FA?

Hello! I figured that since you were the one who extensively copyedited the article, I would pick you as one of the people I would ask. I am thinking of nominating the article No Jacket Required for Featured Article candidacy, and am looking for some advice. I have never nominated a featured article before, and was wondering if you think there are any current problems with the article that would detract and quickly fail the nomination. Or, if you have any advice on nominating, and the process and such. Thank you, and have a nice day! :) CarpetCrawler (talk) 04:57, 7 December 2008 (UTC)

Thank you so much for your prompt response! I agree that some of the sections are small, in fact I just noticed that a really small section could have been combined into another, which I just did now. And I'm pretty sure that all of the references are reliable, I used books, magazines, newspaper articles, reliable music websites, and Phil Collins himself as my sources, so hopefully nothing will come up about reliability at the maybe candidate page. Thank you for the prompt response, and if I decide to nominate the article, I will make sure to notify you at your talkpage! Thank you and have a nice night! :) CarpetCrawler (talk) 05:17, 7 December 2008 (UTC)

Boeing 777 FAC

I'm a bit puzzled at your FAC comments about the Boeing 777. It has 3 paragraphs. You want 4. Yet your FAC nomination (Tropical Storm Eric) only has one! Is there a reason? I'm puzzled; not trying to pick a fight. Chergles (talk) 22:17, 4 December 2008 (UTC)

I got your response. You are right. Your request is acceptable. I was just puzzled because you opposed it even though 3 or 4 paragraphs is acceptable. I am discussing with the others about specific language to add to make a 4th paragraph. So your suggestion is well taken. However, I'm a bit disappointed that it's an oppose and not just a suggestion. Chergles (talk) 01:10, 5 December 2008 (UTC)

Several people are working to improve this article. Would you kindly change your vote from oppose to a crossed out oppose. That's a compromise from support, though I wouldn't object to a support vote. Chergles (talk) 19:08, 7 December 2008 (UTC)

Would you kindly describe what you don't like about the prose and give an example of good prose. For example, give a sample few sentences where you've taken bad prose and made it good. You can place the sample here. That would help a lot. Chergles (talk) 19:14, 7 December 2008 (UTC)

Excellent. Note that we must make sure the language information is correct. It would be bad to say "there is no language by this name" if in fact one (or even a dialect by that name) exists. If there is a language or dialect known by that name, a google search will usually reveal it.
Redlinks in disambiguation pages are frowned upon (more than elsewhere on Wikipedia), and so we should bluelink them (using redirects) if at all possible. Though if we can't bluelink them, we should keep the redlinks, because they are likely to turn blue in the future (based on how country coverage on Wikipedia expands).
When the article Languages of x does not exist, the information often exists at Demographics of x#Languages. It did in this case, but I had to format the CIA data at the destination. After formatting it, I created a redirect to it (see Languages of Malawi).
Cuisine is often covered in Culture of x, but nothing on Malawi's cuisine is covered yet on Wikipedia, so I left Malawian Cuisine red.
Good work. Keep it up.
The Transhumanist    23:39, 8 December 2008 (UTC)

Note that most countries don't have an article on their people, and so a generic link was not included in the persons entry. But some countries do, especially major countries, and so for each country a search for that page must be made and a link to it included if such a page is found. For example, search Wikipedia for the plural (Malawians), and for "people of Malawi", Malawian people, and anything else you can think of.
For those dab pages in which you include such a link, you should change "For information about the Malawian people," to "For more information,".
The Transhumanist    00:07, 9 December 2008 (UTC)

By the way, our goal with these pages is to provide links to the most relevant information available on Wikipedia. And so we are trying to anticipate readers' needs, and filling their informational needs. The Transhumanist    00:12, 9 December 2008 (UTC)

Feedback on Maldivian

Here's another one. Would you mind looking over that to see if I did it correctly?
Still a little wary of replacing redirects with dabs, but I think I'm getting the hang of it. :) –Juliancolton Tropical Cyclone 02:54, 9 December 2008 (UTC)
Well, the redirects don't do the adjectivals justice, especially since the adjectivals have their own list. They therefore really shouldn't be redirected to the countries. They need their own coverage! And dabs are the best way we can do this, since virtually all of these adjectivals have multiple meanings!
By the way, you did an excellent job. And since you are a perfectionist, here is some feedback on improving the dab further:
You removed "For specific Maldivians..." You should leave it in there (as every country will eventually have a list of people from there), and bluelink the link if at all possible. Sometimes a list of people from a country can be found in a subsection of List of x-related topics (where x is the country's name). You can either split that section off as a stand-alone list, or create a redirect to it, at List of y (where y is the plural demonym - in this case: List of Maldivians. Sometimes there's already a stand-alone list at List of z people (such as List of Maldivian people - but it should be renamed if it exists (to List of Maldivians to match the naming of other lists of this type, or redirected if it doesn't yet exist when a stand-alone list at List of y (List of Maldivians) does. Make sense?
Languages of x (Languages of the Maldives) should be bluelinked rather than replaced. Most countries have CIA demographic data in their Demographics of x article, which includes a "Languages" section listing all the major languages spoken in the country. Though the data hasn't yet been wikified in all the articles it appears in - but that's fairly easy to fix. See Demographics of the Maldives#Languages.

Twelve

There is no reason to object to people spelling out the number twelve at FAC noms. Per Wikipedia:Numbers#Numbers as figures or words: "numbers greater than nine are commonly rendered in numerals, or may be rendered in words if they are expressed in one or two words". In the real world, twelve is seldom rendered as 12 in the middle of text as it is an extremely short word and there is no reason to convert it to a numeral to help readability. Malian

Malian. Sorry for being a pest; I just want to make sure I'm doing it correctly before I start on a 100 of 'em... –Juliancolton Tropical Cyclone 15:44, 10 December 2008 (UTC)
You are not being a pest - I'm impressed with your desire to get every detail right. Here are my observations:
  1. "West Africa" is the name of the region article linked to. Redirects should be used only if there is a special reason to do so.
  2. There is no People of Mali, Malian people, or Malians article, which means the "person from Mali" entry should remain unchanged - exactly the way you did it. Excellent.
  3. I could find no language called "Malian". I assume you checked. You did this entry correctly. Excellent.
  4. The redirects should be to the most relevant links. The closest match for "Cuisine of Mali" is Culture of Mali#Festivals, food, and clothing. Eventually, "food" will be split-off to its own section and then to its own article. Each successive level down (Mali = top or level 1, Culture of Mali = level 2, Cuisine of Mali = level 3, etc.) should include more detail. If a higher level includes more info on a particular topic, that info should be copied or moved to the deeper level. That is, "Cuisine of Mali" should have more info on Mali's food than "Culture of Mali".
  5. Remember to hit "Search" instead of "Go" for this assignment. You missed two (four) entries entirely, which I've added to the dab. You missed the Mali Empire and the Ancient Greek Malians, and by extension, persons from those.  ;)
Good work. How about trying 5 or more in your next batch (to speed things up).  :)

Catskill Escarpment

Re this: I'm flattered. And I might just do it although I usually think peer review is a good step before GA. Daniel Case (talk) 16:54, 10 December 2008 (UTC)

Actually, I should list it on PR first, after I get rid of the redlinks (I put Jacobson v. United States, Anna Wintour and The Devil Wears Prada through PR first before their GA noms (which in the latter two instances were made by other people). I had thought you could only have one on PR at a time; it turns out you're only limited to one a day.

My philosophy is that I only start an article on the recognition path once it has reached the extent to which I wish to develop it; that's why I have a lot of B-classes to my credit but not as many GAs or FAs (and Mitch is really responsible for nomming the two that I do share credit for). Daniel Case (talk) 00:50, 11 December 2008 (UTC)

We never lost power. We are just far south enough that the ice had all melted when the temperature warmed up this morning. It never got worse than freezing rain yesterday evening. All we had was a lot of rain ... the Wallkill looks almost as bad as it did here.

Have you at least taken some pictures for this article? Daniel Case (talk) 03:31, 13 December 2008 (UTC)

Neat! I went out to the Hudson Highlands along US 9W (the section shown in this picture, actually). It was the only area in Orange County, at least eastern Orange County, that got iced up. Everybody was taking pictures of this suddenly crystal forest, and all the sun glinting off and reflecting everything. (And it was a huge natural freezer ... standing on the west side of the road, it must have been 40 degrees colder than ambient, not even taking the gentle breeze into account. It honestly felt like -20 there, not 20, and having experienced the former I think I know what I'm talking about). Perhaps I shall upload one or two of them. IMO, snow vitally enhances the authenticity of Christmas.

Hi! Dylan620 here to wish you Happy Holidays! Christmas, Hanukkah, New Year's, Valentine's Day; they all make winter great. But Christmas is the best of them all. Singing to Christmas carols, inhaling eggnog, seeing your relatives, and best of all, gifts, whether giving or receiving them. Since this has been sent to you, you are apparently a Wikipedian. Why not improve Christmas articles related to topics you enjoy? After all, building an encyclopedia is what Wikipedia is all about, and for Christmas, my theory is trying to improve Christmas-related articles. Anyway, Merry Christmas!!! Take a look at some gifts that I got you:

And what else to go with cookies than...

Im just curious why you would delete the Malibu Boats article before it even starts to form. There were three different forum users that are owners that are trying to create a page of one central location of information about the Boats. We are not tied to the company in any way, other than being owners and looking for the history of awards etc.... You cite that this was blatant advertising when it wasnt at all. I dont care if they sell another boat, but i do care about the history of the boats and having a place older owners could contribute information to. Please let me know what we can do to get a page up.... Much like Mastercraft has....

Edit warring?

I am just now reading your reply to me about my supposed edit-warring. Why is it that whenever I make reversions, I'm called on it. Yet, never the people who are reverting my edits? I tried discussing it with Scorpion on the Springfield (The Simpsons) talk page. For some reason, Scorpion feels that he has the last say on Simpsons-related articles and every other member of Wikiproject: The Simpsons are his puppets, standing by his decisions. Maybe it's just me, but look at the article's history for yourself. Scorpion reverted my edits thrice. I've said it on the talk page and I'm saying it here now: I will not be bullied. If I make what I feel is a sensible edit to an article, I'm going to fight to keep it there. Maybe you should tell Scorpion that Wikipedia is not a depository for quotations, yet every Simpsons family member article has quote boxes. Has anyone called Scorpion out on that? It is funny how Scorpion can always find an excuse for his edits.Tj terrorible1 (talk) 16:06, 17 December 2008 (UTC)

Country dabs

Just letting you know I haven't forgot about this—I hope to get some more done soon. –Juliancolton Tropical Cyclone 03:49, 15 December 2008 (UTC)

How much stuff should I add to each one? Is it possible to go overboard? I'm working on Mauritian, and by the looks of Special:Search, I could be adding stuff all night. –Juliancolton Happy Holidays 00:28, 17 December 2008 (UTC)

A disambiguation page provides entries for the contexts of a single term - that is, it presents topics with the same name. A dab is not a collection of all the titles with that term in them! The dab title must mean each entry. Take "Chinese" for example. It's an adjective that means "something of or from China" (e.g., I bought a Chinese vase, he's Chinese), and it is the name of the Chinese people (the Chinese almost took over the world under Ghengis Khan), the name of their family of languages (pardon me, do you speak Chinese?).

But the "Chinese government" isn't called "Chinese", it's called the "Chinese government" or sometimes "Beijing" (like the U.S. government is often refered to as "Washington").

Also, "Chinese cuisine" is called "Chinese", such as when you're "going out for Chinese", or when your wife asks you "should we order a pizza" and you reply "I'm in the mood for Chinese".

Is a Mauritian passport called a "Mauritian"? Do customs agents ask "Can I see your Mauritian please"?

Note that a Manx cat is called a Manx, which is also the adjectival for the Isle of Man. Does "Manx" mean "Manx surname"? Are there any other entries that don't belong in that dab?
I hope this helps.  :) The Transhumanist    21:10, 17 December 2008 (UTC)

A question

Fadix (talk · contribs · block log) has just had his ban lengthened from one year to indefinite. What should I do? (I want to know if I should edit his userpage to tell the truth, change his entry on WP:LOBU to reflect on Jpgordon (talk · contribs · blocks · protections · deletions · page moves · rights · RfA)'s decision, to do both, or to do neither.)

Sorry I forgot to sign my post on the above comment. Anyway, I was interested in what to do about the Fadix situation because of my deep – and growing – interest in the banning of users. I would like to help the organization of WP:LOBU whenever possible. Also, it has been nearly 14 hours since the ban was extended to indefinite, and still no fixes have been made to LOBU and Fadix's userpage; I'm off to contact the indeffing admin, Jpgordon, about the matter. I know what I would like my next lesson to be

It just dawned on me. Were I to become a sysop, I would block misbehaving users for vandalism, spamming, trolling, sock puppetry, 3RR violations, an inappropriate username, or any combination of the six. I read up on your admin coaching page from nine months back, and I thought to myself, "hey, I can undergo those lessons!" I would like to learn about blocking for my next lesson. (And don't worry, I'll begin working on articles again once I have a third green light to upgrade Timeline of the 2001 Atlantic hurricane season to A-Class. Whether you support or oppose the upgrade, I need feedback desperately.) --Dylan620 Contribs Sign! 13:35, 21 December 2008 (UTC)

Certainly! FWIW, I recently reported a username, Themuchrealerthantheotherrealtomcruise, to WP:UAA, on the grounds of an unnecessarily long or confusing username. The user was blocked indef, but rather as a vandalism-only account. Do you think my reason for reporting him to UAA could have been another reason to block him? --Dylan620 Contribs Sign! 14:28, 21 December 2008 (UTC)

Portal:Winter

I don't have much time for detail reviews until the holidays, but here are some things you can work on in the meantime.

  • When describing the subject in selected articles, make sure the subject itself is in bold and linked.
  • More articles, quotes, pictures needed
  • Try set up an automatic bot which updates the news items without a lot of attention (not mandatory though)
  • Selected picture has to be better than this. In addition to winter scene, how about winter activities?

OhanaUnitedTalk page 03:32, 23 December 2008 (UTC)

My borderline is 15. Anything below that means either 1) the scope of the portal is too small to merit being a portal itself (try make a portal out of SmY RNA and convince me that it's a portal =) ) or 2) the person didn't try hard enough to include high-quality information. However, you should go for no less than 20. OhanaUnitedTalk page 03:43, 23 December 2008 (UTC)
I'd be happy to help out, if need be. I could probably find someone who was willing to program a bot for auto-updating. I can also help with formatting, article writing, etc.. VX!~~~ 03:47, 23 December 2008 (UTC)
You actually don't need any computer programming skill. All you need is do some cut-and-paste codings at Wikinews. Another thing just came into my mind. Try add interwiki links to the portal. I'm pretty sure there's another winter portal out there in different language. OhanaUnitedTalk page 04:18, 23 December 2008 (UTC)

Just in case, I have decided to give you a first-hand view of my responses. My responses to the examples are between quotation marks.
Example 1: "I believe a 24-hour block would be necessary."
Example 2: "Partial or full, a revert is still a revert. 24 hour block."
Example 3: "It's 3RR, not 5RR. 24-36 hour block."
Example 4: "This one is kinda hazy. Short block; 24 hours at longest."
Example 5: "48-72 hour block for edit warring."
Example 6: "The example speaks for itself. 48-72 hour block."
Example 7: "All editors would be warned to discontinue edit warring. I would block the worst edit warriors for a minimum of 24 hours."
Example 8: "I would block this user indefinitely. His username appears to advertise a company or group. However, I would gladly unblock this user momentarily to give him sufficient time to get his username changed at WP:CHU. If he were not to get his username changed in the allotted time, however, I would re-instate the indefinite block."
Example 9: "Same issue as Example 8. Indefinite block, although I would be willing to unblock this user on the same conditions as Example 8."
Example 10: "Offensive username. Indefinite block, although this time, I would be unwilling to give this user another chance."
Example 11: "This one is even worse. Indefinite block."
Example 12: "Indefinite block, on the charges of an inappropriate username."
Example 13: "That's a heck of a hard username to remember. Looks like the account's creator was just banging on the keyboard to get the result of his username. Indefinite block, I guess."
Example 14: "Indefinite block as an inappropriate or misleading username, or as an unapproved bot, if this user was a bot. If it were an approved bot, however, I would not block."
Example 15: "I would block this user indefinitely. The username appears to advertise a company or group."
Sorry if this is being impatient; it's been happening to me lately. Off-wiki as well. --Dylan620 Contribs Sign! 23:29, 23 December 2008 (UTC)

Jett Blakk

Julian, would you mind terribly reviewing your decision on Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Jett_Blakk? The !votes to keep the article Jett Blakk rely solely on the section of WP:BIO that says "has been often nominated for" a notable award. Blakk has been nominated twice for GayVN awards and twice for the not-as-notable Grabby awards. Unless I'm missing something, he's just not notable enough to merit an article. Please reply on my talk page? Thanks! -- SatyrTN (talk / contribs) 08:06, 24 December 2008 (UTC)

Rly? "A majority of the participating editors" doesn't make it right.
First, the article *doesn't* meet PORNBIO, as I mentioned in the debate. Pornbio says a person is notable if they've *won* a notable Adult award - Blakk has not won any. When I pressed on that point in the AfD, it was brought up that Blakk has been nominated several times, which as I mentioned above, is not true. Please revisit? My feeling is that most of the !votes didn't actually read the article or the comments above - they just copied sentiment. I firmly believe that Blakk (who seems to have written the article himself) is snowing his way in to the encyclopedia. Sorry to pester, but I feel like people are following protocol, when this is a case where the facts don't support that. -- SatyrTN (talk / contribs) 16:45, 24 December 2008 (UTC)
Thank you for your time. I don't see how 2 is several, but thank you for taking a look. I'll wait a bit and see if anyone else adds anything, but I'll probably bring it up again and see if the community still feels that way in a month. -- SatyrTN (talk / contribs) 16:50, 24 December 2008 (UTC)

Wikiversity thing, some other stuff too

Sounds like a good read. I'll read it later on. Also, take a look at my sandbox directory. My latest plans include a couple disambiguation pages (OK, so I've had those as plans since September 24), as well as any available EPac season timeline of recent times. On a side note, I have recently discovered that I am a Novice Editor, and am therefore entitled to put this service badge on my userpage. Also, there is a favor you could do for me; you don't have to do this if you have already done so, but could you please read through my edit count via Interiot's 'Wannabe Kate' tool? Not only can it help fix up patches in my performance here on Wikipedia, but it can also help determine if I deserve this service badge instead. --Dylan620 Contribs Sign! 18:41, 24 December 2008 (UTC)

Oh, and it's all coming together. I've been seeing a lot of page-move vandalism lately, notably by Rhys Pwnes (talk · contribs) and Firdousny (talk · contribs). Rhys Pwnes moved User:The JPS to User:Teh JPCocksucker, User:Jpgordon to User:B.A.L.D.Y, and User:FisherQueen to User:FishyMINGE. Also, Firdousny moved User:La Pianista to H E Ŗ M E E?. Highly offensive, aren't they? I looked at Wikipedia:List of banned users#JarlaxleArtemis, and came to the conclusion that community-banned serial vandal JarlaxleArtemis is behind this. (Firdousny has even been explicitly labeled as a Jarlaxle sock; I'll make the note to his talk page now.) Jarlaxle's account creation was never blocked. As long as it isn't, he may continue with his outrageous vandalism as long as he pleases. What if I'm next? What if you're next? Should Jarlaxle's account creation be blocked? (P.S.: The vandal persona Grawp is to blame for this as far as I'm concerned, but that's a persona created by Jarlaxle.) --Dylan620 Contribs Sign! 19:20, 24 December 2008 (UTC)
Here's my theory: blocking the socks' account creation and e-mail is helpful, but Grawp can create more socks anytime. If we applied these settings to Grawp (and possibly JarlaxleArtemis), we could put an end to these attacks. --Dylan620 Contribs Sign! 21:41, 24 December 2008 (UTC)
Grawp is known to use abusive proxies, which are often blocked on sight (between one and three years, often). Unfortunately, our conventional block settings have no effect, and he switches ranges and proxies. His evasion is well-known, so unfortunately your suggestions will have no effect. It would be extreme to block every single proxy he uses, so the day Grawp retires calls for a wiki-wide celebration then. Anyone call for re-instating Wikipedia:Long term abuse/JarlaxleArtemis? Or creating Wikipedia:Long term abuse/Grawp? --Dylan620 Contribs Sign! 22:03, 24 December 2008 (UTC)
There's no point. The checkusers haven't been idle; there are wider external issues surrounding Grawp. There is no point in reopening these, because it's all in hand. Best, PeterSymonds (talk) 22:06, 24 December 2008 (UTC)

Merry Christmas!

  Merry Christmas!
Juliancolton, here's hoping you're having a wonderful Christmas, and here's also hoping that all your family and friends are well. Lets all hope that the year coming will be a good one! If we've had disputes in the past, I hold no grudges, especially at such a time as this. If you don't know I am, I apologise, feel free to remove this from your page.
Come and say hi, I won't bite, I swear! It could even be good for me, you know - I'm feeling a little down at the moment with all of these snowmen giving me the cold shoulder :(

Hey Julian

All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth,
my two front teeth,
my two front teeth.

All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth,
so I can wish you a merry Christmas!

:D Hey, Julian. I hope you had a wonderful Christmas. It's a shame that we have to say goodbye to Christmas for a whole year, but the holidays aren't over yet; we still have New Year's Eve! So, for the last time until December 2009, merry Christmas, Julian. :-) --Dylan620 Contribs Sign! 01:29, 26 December 2008 (UTC)

I got tons of nice presents, thank you. :-D They included comics (specifically based on the shows Rocko's Modern Life and Ren and Stimpy), cool video games (including accessories for the Wii, like a steering wheel), music (like the Foo Fighters album "Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace," and the Coldplay album "X&Y"), and DVD's, like the complete series of Invader ZIM, Season 4 of SpongeBob SquarePants, and the UNCUT first and second seasons of The Ren and Stimpy Show. I even got (*secret gift censored*)! Not to mention a lot of board games and puzzle games, and even a magic set! I hope you had an equally superb Christmas, Julian, and that you, too, got really great gifts! Now, there's something I've been wanting to talk to you about. I don't plan on stopping with just the administrator flag. I also plan on achieving the bureaucrat, oversight, and maybe the checkuser flags. You're already an administrator. Do you plan on going higher in status, as to become a bureaucrat, overseer, or checkuser? --Dylan620 Contribs Sign! 01:52, 26 December 2008 (UTC)
