Invite to participate in research and earn $15 edit

Hi Jovis47,

Welcome to the Wikipedia community!

It looks like you’ve been editing here for about a month now. Did you know that Artificial Intelligences (AIs) support Wikipedia? I’m personally contacting a small handful of new Wikipedia editors to make sure your voice is heard as we build and refine these AIs.

Will you please provide an interview to share your thoughts about AI on Wikipedia? You don’t need any special knowledge on the topic going into the interview. It will only take about 30 minutes over phone or video chat. We will send you a $15 Amazon gift card as a way to thank you for your time.

I am working in collaboration with Wikimedia Foundation staff to do this research, so if you decide to participate, your opinion could help build the future of Wikipedia. Hope to talk to you soon!

PS. You can learn more about our study here.

Capital STEEZ edit

Hi Jovis. I've noticed that the content you have been attempting to add to Capital Steez is problematic for a couple of reasons. But the most important one is that your source for this content is a self-published book. Anyone can write a book and have it published, and so no book is assumed to be a reliable source simply because it exists. A reliable source is one that has either been published by a reputable organization with a reputation for fact-checking and accuracy (such as a reputable publisher of non-fiction books that provides editorial review), or the product of a writer who is a recognized expert in his field (such as a professional journalist or academic). A book that has been self-published by an author who is not a recognized expert in his field is actually assumed unreliable. If you did manage to remedy this sourcing issue by presenting a more acceptable source for your content, there remains the issue that the tone of the section you added is completely unencyclopedic. In brief, you editorialized - presenting subjective opinions in Wikipedia's voice. You also described a Steez's worldview in vague and redundant terms - it would have been better to simply provide the quote and a brief description, but that's a relatively minor issue. Anyway, you shouldn't bother trying to fix the text if there is not a better source you can use, because it will just keep getting deleted regardless. Getting permission from the family doesn't make you a reliable source, and it certainly doesn't make your writing decent by Wikipedia's standards. It most definitely doesn't give you control of the Wikipedia article. You can choose to learn how this place works, or you can leave. Someguy1221 (talk) 07:50, 13 April 2019 (UTC)Reply
As for republishing, depends on what's republished. At the moment the basic idea is, to be blunt, "who the hell is Jovis47 and why would anyone care what he wrote?" If there are family members among the authors, or interviews in the book, those might maybe potentially be acceptable, but you then still have the issue of the writing itself. A Wikipedia biography is not a memorial to fill with flowery subjective opinions about how awesome the subject is. Someguy1221 (talk) 07:53, 13 April 2019 (UTC)Reply
