Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Elonka 3 edit

Thank you for your support in my RfA. It was definitely a dramatic debate, that landed on WP:100! I paid close attention to everything that was said, and, where possible, I will try to incorporate the (constructive) criticism towards being a better administrator. I'm taking things slowly for now, partially because of the holidays and all the off-wiki distractions. :) I'm also working my way through the Wikipedia:New admin school and double-checking the relevant policies, and will gradually phase into the use of the new tools. My main goals are to help out with various backlogs, but I also fully intend to keep on writing articles, as there are several more that I definitely want to get to WP:FA status! Thanks again, and have a great new year, --Elonka 04:52, 7 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Snowshoe pic edit

I love it, but is it really necessary to have two pictures of traditional snowshoes in the article (see the intro)? And if so, why in that section? Daniel Case (talk) 20:01, 27 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thank you. I used it to illustrate rawhide webbing, which is discussed in that section, and which shows up better in that photo. But feel free to move things around. Jonathunder (talk) 15:39, 9 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Picture needed edit

Am I remembering correctly that you are located in southern Minnesota? I am trying to complete the List of Registered Historic Places in Dakota County, Minnesota as a demonstration for this type of list nationwide. I would like to avoid driving to Waterford to get a picture of District No. 72 School for the article. If you are close to that site, I would very much appreciate it if you could get a picture of the school for me. Thanks very much.--Appraiser (talk) 18:12, 2 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

I think I will be attending a Society for Creative Anachronism event quite near there in April. Jonathunder (talk) 05:42, 3 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
That would be great. thanks!--Appraiser (talk) 13:52, 3 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

MNSH participants list edit

As discussed at WT:USRD, the participants list at WP:USRD is being split by state. Since your name only has "MN" next to it, it has been removed the large USRD-wide table, and your name has been added to the MNspecific table. This is part of the lengthy process. If this is in error, please let me know immediately. Regards, Rschen7754 (T C) 05:42, 18 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

sorry edit

Sorry. It was not meant to cause harm. It was an inside joke to someone who is crazy about the donut ad. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.174.110.147 (talk) 19:04, 2 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Merger proposed edit

I'm proposing a merger on an article you worked on. Since the shelf clouds and roll clouds are subset of the arcus clouds, they should be integrated into the later article. This would make a more complete article instead of splitting the information among three articles. Anwer in Talk:arcus cloud.

RfB Thank You spam edit

Thank you for participating in my RfB! I am very grateful for the confidence of the community shown at my RfB, which passed by a count of 154/7/2 (95.65%). I have read every word of the RfB and taken it all to heart. I truly appreciate everyone's input: supports, opposes, neutrals, and comments. Of course, I plan to conduct my cratship in service of the community. If you have any advice, questions, concerns, or need help, please let me know. Again, Thanks! thankspam edit

Thanks to everyone who participated in my RfA, regardless of their !vote. I have withdrawn the nomination as a failure at 19 supports, 45 opposes, and 9 neutral statements.

As has been written and sung, you can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you get what you need — and what I need is to go back to working on our shared project. Not everyone has to be an admin; there is a role for each of us. After reflection, I feel I don't have the temperament to secure community consensus as an admin at any point, and I will not be applying again in the future — and hey, that's all right, 'cause I stay true to the philosophy that adminship is no big deal: I tried, I failed, and now I'll return to doing what I've always done. I have an extremely strong belief in the consensus process, and the consensus was clear. I will be devoting my energies to volunteering at MedCab and working up a complete series of articles on the short stories of Ernest Hemingway, among lord knows what else. Thanks again to everyone who spared the time to weigh in on this one. It was made in better faith than it probably seemed.
Mr. IP Defender of Open Editing 14:15, 4 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for showing up to !vote. I appreciate the hopeful "yet" note you sounded there, but I'm out of the admin/RfA game. I think I need to channel my energies elsewhere; adminship is just not the role for me. You'll certainly see me around on the project :D Thanks again, Mr. IP Defender of Open Editing 14:15, 4 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

I'm glad you'll stick around. Putting the admin thing aside and just focusing on being the best editor you can be is a great strategy, actually, for becoming an admin -- eventually. Jonathunder (talk) 14:52, 4 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Many thanks! edit

  Thank you...

...for participating in my RfA, which closed with 119 in support, 4 neutral and 5 opposes. I'm honestly overwhelmed at the level of support that I've received from the community, and will do my best to maintain the trust placed in me. I 'm also thankful to those who opposed or expressed a neutral position, for providing clear rationales and superb feedback for me to build on. I've set up a space for you to provide any further feedback or thoughts, should you feel inclined to. However you voted, thanks for taking the time out to contribute to the process, it's much appreciated. Kind regards, Gazimoff 22:05, 4 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Request for participation in User:Abd/RfC edit

Because my participation as a Wikipedia editor has been questioned, and if I continue as I have in the past, I can expect future challenges as well, I have begun a standing RfC in my user space, at User:Abd/RfC. There is also a specific incident RfC at User:Abd/RfC/8.11.08 block. I understand that you may not have time to participate directly; however, if you wish to be notified of any outcome from the general or specific RfC, or if you wish to identify a participant or potential participant as one generally trusted by you, or otherwise to indicate interest in the topic(s), please consider listing yourself at User:Abd/RfC/Proxy Table, and, should you so decide, naming a proxy as indicated there. Your designation of a proxy will not bind you, and your proxy will not comment or vote for you, but only for himself or herself; however, I may consider proxy designations in weighing comment in this RfC, as to how they might represent the general community. You may revoke this designation at any time. This RfC is for my own guidance as to future behavior and actions, it is advisory only, upon me and on participants. This notice is going to all those who commented on my Talk page in the period between my warning for personal attack, assumptions of bad faith, and general disruption, on August 11, 2008, until August 20, 2008. This is not a standard RfC; because it is for my advice, I assert authority over the process. However, initially, all editors are welcome, even if otherwise banned from my Talk space or from the project. Canvassing is permitted, as far as I'm concerned; I will regulate participation if needed, but do not spam. Notice of this RfC may be placed on noticeboards or wikiprojects, should any of you think this appropriate; however, the reason for doing this in my user space is to minimize disruption, and I am not responsible for any disruption arising from discussion of this outside my user space. Thanks for considering this. --Abd (talk) 02:41, 22 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Roland Burris edit

Please, look at the deletion page. It seems that you misunderstood me. :-) Cassandro (talk) 18:01, 21 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

It looks like I did, and that we are substantially in agreement. Thank you. Jonathunder (talk) 18:02, 21 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

The photograph is in the public domain, if you looked at Burris' personal website as well as the US Senate's. I'm afraid bias is not good on the part of an administrator, as this photograph is obviously the one being used by all sources taken seriously. Why don't you quit trying to say it's "not a free image," because it if wasn't why is the US Senate using it and why is it popping up all over the internet? Hero of Time 87 (talk) 20:14, 21 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Sorry for saying this, but screw all of you. You prove it's not in the public domain. If we're using other Senate photographs, there's no reason we shouldn't be using this one. I'm not going to waste my time trying to make the article look better, just let it look like a tourist snapshot. See how many people take that article seriously when it looks like someone just took a throwaway camera and snapped a photo of him on his way to an airport. You have no power to block me because I've done nothing wrong other than upload a photograph that is perfectly legal to use and is being used by every serious source in the media. So sorry, but I'm done with this encyclopedia ruled by a mob of unintelligent people. This encyclopedia is viewed by skepticism by almost every single university professor and can't even be used as a source according to them because of how shoddy articles like this one look. Hero of Time 87 (talk) 20:23, 21 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for the pictures that you took of Historic Places in Wisconsin. It's been a big help. I live too far across Wisconsin to do pictures that far away. Your help is appreciated! Royalbroil 00:33, 10 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for the nice words. I have a few more I took this weekend which I hope to process and upload tonight. Jonathunder (talk) 01:28, 10 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
I did a road trip on Sunday too! Such beautiful weather - I had to drive the back roads to see what's off the beaten path on the other side of the state. I didn't have a route preplanned so I didn't get many registered historic places. I mainly got (31) pictures of city's welcome signs, downtowns, schools, etc. I luckily drove past Taliesin (studio) and the Mount Horeb Mustard Museum. On Saturday I had been in a totally different direction for some ice races and I caught a few small incorporated communities that I hadn't visited before. There will soon be one new stub article for a community. Royalbroil 03:28, 10 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Igor Panarin edit

Regarding the non-free images; there is discussion at Talk:Igor Panarin. -download | sign! 20:36, 28 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Mr. Jonathan Thunder, please show some respect to my efforts. Don't simply delete everything I add! OK, I agree that there is a problem, so I just put an "improper license" template because the "db-noncom" template didn't work in Commons. Plus, there is a relevant explanation and licensing information I've added in English and Russian (don't delete it anymore, please!). Hopefully someone will resolve the issue as you obviously don't have administrator's rights in the Commons, otherwise you would have deleted the image much earlier. As I stated and confirmed, I will consent such a deletion but I don't agree my editing to be just removed. Thanks for your understanding. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Лъчезар (talkcontribs) 17:18, 31 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Since you deleted this as much as 3 times, now I have a favour to ask of you. Please check the image commons:file:Panarin.jpg I just uploaded and let me know whether you have objections against it, or against the idea in general. The drawing can certainly be better and I could enhance it. I'm primarily interested whether you think that it's eligible for deletion this time too, or you will leave it alone at last. Thank you for your attention. Лъчезар (talk) 08:12, 3 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

What do you think about this licence (machine translation)? Does it allow using the image from there in Wikipedia? Лъчезар (talk) 12:48, 23 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Request for help edit

Hello Jonathunder. I noticed your note on Calvin's talk page which directed me to your user page. I see that you are able to write English at professional level. I have worked on another article on another Reformation figure Martin Bucer which is in serious need of a copy-edit. Would you be able to help? As I will continue to filter for errors, even a light copy-edit would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. --RelHistBuff (talk) 21:39, 31 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

I'd be happy to do a basic copy edit as soon as time permits, though I am not expert in the subject matter. Jonathunder (talk) 21:41, 31 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
Many thanks! A basic copy edit when you are free would be fine. My English is not the best (I am non-anglophone, but really no excuse as I got an English education), so corrections of some my major errors would be great. --RelHistBuff (talk) 08:25, 1 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
On first read, it is excellent and your English is perfectly ideomatic. I saw little to nothing needed in the way of copyedit beyond, perhaps, a comma or two. Great work. Jonathunder (talk) 14:05, 1 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
OK, thanks. Strange, though. Someone on the FAC page had said that there are "tons of awkward or malformed sentences". I will ask him to point out where are those "tons". Thanks again. --RelHistBuff (talk) 14:23, 1 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hans Hansen Bergen doesn't ring a bell, I don't see my name in the revision history, and the article was not on my watchlist. But it is an interesting article, so I will add it now. Thanks. Jonathunder (talk) 22:08, 6 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
