We do not link to commercial businesses. See WP:EL for guidance. John from Idegon (talk) 01:03, 1 May 2014 (UTC)

John do you see the discrepancy? Tru Keesey — Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.239.128.119 (talk) 16:11, 1 May 2014 (UTC)

No. Having an external link to the website of a notable company on a page about that company is not only allowed it is encouraged. However, having a link to any commercial enterprise on an article about a settlement is not allowed. A local art gallery is probably never going to be notable. However, if by some chance you were able to show it is and create a page for it, the link in question would be allowed on the page about the gallery. Then you could insert some copy about the gallery in the settlement article, either in a section on the arts or the section about the economy, and Wikilink the article you wrote. However, even if you could show the gallery is notable (and please realize that "notability" has a specific meaning on Wikipedia. Follow the Wikilink for details.), you still could not put a link to it in the external link section of the community it is located in's page. Hope that clears things up for you. You must be very patient to do this job. Fortunately for the conversation, I looked up notability yesterday with referenct to the Eminem conversation, so I won't have to plague you with confusion about that. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.239.128.119 (talk) 00:53, 2 May 2014 (UTC)

Olentangy Liberty High School

Dear John,
I am a graduate of Olentangy Liberty. I just wanted to clarify that I am not related to Dr. Lucas. I have just finished my first semester of college and am back home for the summer. I was recently browsing through the wikipedia article for my high school and noticed how much the page was lacking. After hours of searching through web archives, i obtained a header to an article, but the article itself was not archived. The information obtained on the school is from an article published September of 2002 in This Week news papers, a subsidiary of The Columbus Dispatch. After emailing one of the editors, he VPN'd the archives and found the article for me. I have not yet figured out how to cite this article since it was in email format, how would I go about doing that? The information on academics was obtained from an official high school document which I was also going to cite.

Hi, Ben. Glad to make your acquaintance! A few overhead things first. One, when you correspond with other editors via talk page, it is generally a good idea to keep your comments together, so I am taking the liberty of copying my remarks and your remarks over to your talk page. Two, you need to sign communications at talk pages and forums (but not on the articles themselves) by typing four tildes (~~~~) at the end. This automatically adds your username and a timestamp. Last overhead thing---to get an indent in wikiland, you type a colon before the first character in a paragraph, one for each space of indent you want. Spacing forces the markup language to put a box around it, generally rendering it unreadable. We indicate paragraph breaks by inserting a vertical space, in other words, hitting enter.
To cite information from a written source such as books or newspapers, we have specialized templates that we use. I will leave you detailed instructions that are surprisingly easy to follow after this message. Keep in mind that pretty much the only valid content in an academics section is stuff like Newsweek rankings and other notable honors and a brief discussion of AP courses, to consist of just a simple listing of the courses offered. It would be fine to reference that info to the specific page on the school's website where it can be found. Also, please watch your tone when you redo the "Campus" section. Encyclopedias are supposed to be pretty dry, so take care not to use a lot of flowery adjectives and adverbs. Best of luck. Feel free to drop me a note or just answer this on your talk page. I have it on my watchlist. John from Idegon (talk) 23:09, 7 May 2014 (UTC)

Question about deleting

I ran across this article Florian Lahnstein. I think it's about as non-notable and unreferenced as anything I've seen; I would like to try to get it deleted but I'm not sure how. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks!Jacona (talk) 02:12, 12 May 2014 (UTC)

Looks like someone took care of it with a WP:CSD. That may not fly, as it is mainly for articles that have just been created and only have one primary editor. Next step would be a WP:BLPPROD, which can be removed by anyone as long as at least one reference (it doesn't have to be a good reference either) is put on the article. The last step is WP:AFD, which is a debate on the merits of the article. IMHO, it has none. Sorry it took me so long to get back to you. My only access on the weekends is my Not Smart Phone, and there is a lot I cannot do with it. John from Idegon (talk) 15:42, 12 May 2014 (UTC)

George D. Chamberlain High School

John, could you take a look at George D. Chamberlain High School#Accomplishments/Controversy? I'm sure you would be adept at handling this one. Thanks!Jacona (talk) 14:24, 15 May 2014 (UTC)

Shelli Yoder

Hi, John: I noticed some time ago that when we were discussing the reasons my Shelli Yoder article was likely to be rejected [1] , someone else had already started and/or published on what is now the Shelli Yoder article on 9 May 2012. What gives? Why couldn't I find that article then and/or why didn't the people rejecting my version of the article simply mention that one already existed? It has been a few years since I did serious editing on here, but I'm still intrigued by the chaos that brings cosmos (or at least accessibility and readability) in WP's processes. I once used WP to teach writing (editing and peer revision, really), though the rules, bots, and citations have become so complicated that I no longer bother. It would take up a good month out of our semester just to learn the medium. Josh a brewer (talk) 14:41, 16 May 2014 (UTC)

http://www.southshorecva.com/ external links being removed from local town pages.

Hi John,

I just wanted to see if there was a better way I could describe this link in the section to make sure it stays on the pages. The link is not for a business but for a site that allows people to locate local businesses, restaurants and things to do in the hope of improving and increasing tourism in the area. I do understand the link being removed from non Lake county town pages as those were added by accident as I hadn't checked the county before adding. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 204.17.32.194 (talk) 17:20, 20 May 2014 (UTC)

The Special Barnstar

  The Special Barnstar
I award you this special barnstar for your good work on high school articles in general and for your explanation and information on the First Colonial High School talk page and your work on the article itself. Thanks! Donner60 (talk) 02:30, 24 May 2014 (UTC)

Apology accepted

I sought to complete the discussion rather on Edit warring discussion, and instead on your talk page. I accept your apology, but I do have a few more things that I'm curious on why you did:

  • Why did you claim a 4th revert of mine when my 4th edit was simply adding sources? That's not a revert.
  • Why did you say "I've been here longer than you" on my talk page?

That's all for now. Tutelary (talk) 04:30, 24 May 2014 (UTC)

I have no excuse. I was looking at my notifications, and thought that the revert you made on your talk page was yet another revert on GLHS. As far as seniority goes, I have been here a year longer than you have, at least as a registered user, and have made 5 times the number of edits. I am mentioning this not to sound superior or to say that I have any more authority than you to edit; just to say that with experience generally comes knowledge. Not understanding WP:Burden and WP:RS are newbie mistakes. You have every right to edit as much as you wish---however, you will have to follow the established constraints such as WP:BRD and article guidelines. The "laws" of Wikiworld make the tax code seem simple. I was simply trying to encourage you to not be so bull headed about it, and I failed miserably. I wasn't kidding when I said I had been awake for over 30 hours. I've recently been working midnights and am trying to get my clock reset so I can enjoy the holiday with my family. Hope you do the same. I lived in the Kazoo area for many years and I miss it bad. Catch a bass or slalom or tack across the lake or skip a stone for me please. Glad to make your acquaintance, and I am not usually such a prick. If you eve need any help on anything, feel free to give me a holler. John from Idegon (talk) 09:05, 24 May 2014 (UTC)

Edinburg, Texas

Hello,

The edit linked below that you reverted to is incorrect. I understand Youtube being a questionable source in general. However, it is unclear whether you saw that this link belongs to the City's official channel. This is primary source material. Furthermore, while you have deemed "local legend" inappropriate, the fact is that the current information is totally incorrect and is actually a local myth. Nor, is the information even cited whatsoever.

If you have suggestions to better cite this new information, please share. But, otherwise you've just preserved incorrect information.
