Publically edit

I notice you've been changing a lot of spellings of publically to publicly. Publically is a perfectly acceptable variant spelling of publicly in British (and American) English and is in line with other -ic adverbs. Please do not alter English versions or spellings to your own preferred version. Canterbury Tail talk 16:11, 23 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Thank you very much! I did consult a dictionary that said that "publically" was incorrect. I'm glad you pointed this out, and I will definitely stop making this edit. Jkgree (talk) 16:20, 23 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
Some, especially in the US, discourage its usage, but it's relatively common usage anyway. here is a good article on it. While it's not the most common usage, it's still a valid usage especially since it lines it up with other adverbs. Canterbury Tail talk 16:23, 23 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for that article. It definitely gives an overview of the issue. And I know it sounds self-serving, but I do try to be aware of variant spellings and to leave them as is. This is one that I thought was legitimately wrong. (I've also been looking at "seperate" instead of "separate". Please don't tell me that that's an acceptable variant!!) Jkgree (talk) 16:37, 23 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
Oh no, that's just an incredibly common spelling error (probably to the extent that I wouldn't be surprised if dictionaries started recognising it at some point.) Canterbury Tail talk 16:40, 23 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
