Geostub badassery edit

I noticed you did a pretty good job on Codys Corner, Florida -- I have been seeing a lot of geostubs at AfD that seem to be of a similar nature. Most of them, nobody is able to find any sources for, but if you'd like, I can let you know when I find one that looks like it can be saved. jp×g 10:14, 25 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, JPxG.
I still have a few things I'd like to add at Codys Corner, including a historic map. But it's in much better shape than it was. For background, when I was a kid, I lived in the hamlet of Monti, Iowa, which would fail one of those "I checked the map but only found four houses - Delete" searches some editors do prior to, or during, AFD. Despite the small size of some communities, there's usually some history there: sometimes a lot, like in Farnhurst, Delaware, which just survived deletion. I worked in an academic library for over 15 years, and still have access to resources some editors might not have.
I'm glad these microstubs are getting sorted, though. I'm happy to take a look at ones that you think might be salvageable. Feel free to ping me. Firsfron of Ronchester 10:47, 25 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
Got a few more for you that nobody else has had much to say about yet: Windsor Farms, P and W Patch, and Pine Waters (all in Pennsylvania). jp×g 23:35, 26 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. I do see some results for P and W Patch in area papers, but some involve a murder trial and may not be appropriate for an encyclopedia article. I'll see what can be done after dinner. BTW, congrats on your 40,000th edit! Woot! :) Firsfron of Ronchester 23:41, 26 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
"Shit on a shingle" made me laugh pretty hard. Speaking of shit, there's still a crapload of work I need to do on Biddles Corner, Delaware, but that's the best I could do tonight. I'll work on it more this week, with the hope that referenced pieces of the article don't end up missing. But if you have more Geography AFDs to suggest JPxG, I'm open to looking... or !voting to delete, if they're actual garbage. Most places at AFD, of course, won't have four buildings listed on the National Register of Historic Places. (And hopefully this conversation isn't so old you won't be able to figure out where I typed this). Firsfron of Ronchester 06:44, 30 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hey JPxG, Wow! the Powder House Island article is looking awesome! I peeked in at the article, back when it was still at 7k bytes. It certainly has grown since then! Great work, and good luck on the Good Article nomination! Firsfron of Ronchester 17:52, 13 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

September 2021 Guild of Copy Editors newsletter edit

Guild of Copy Editors September 2021 Newsletter

Hello and welcome to the September GOCE newsletter, a brief update of Guild activities since June 2021.

                 Current and upcoming events

September Drive: Our current backlog-elimination drive is open until 23:59 on 30 September (UTC) and is open to all copy editors. Sign up today!

Drive and Blitz reports

June Blitz: From 20 to 26 June, 6 participating editors claimed 16 copy edits, focusing on requests and articles tagged in March and April. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here.

July Drive: Almost 575,000 words of articles were copy edited for this event. Of the 24 people who signed up, 18 copyedited at least one article. Final results and awards are listed here.

August Blitz: From 15 to 21 August, we copy edited articles tagged in April and May 2021 and requests. 9 participating editors completed 17 copy edits on the blitz. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here.

Other news

June election: Jonesey95 was chosen to continue as lead coordinator, assisted by Dhtwiki, Tenryuu, and Miniapolis.

New maintenance template added to our project scope: After a short discussion in June, we added {{cleanup tense}} to the list of maintenance templates that adds articles to the Guild's copy editing backlog categories. This change added 198 articles, spread over 97 months of backlog, to our queue. We processed all of those articles except for those from the three or four most recent months during the July backlog elimination drive (Here's a link to a "tense" discussion during the drive).

Progress report: As of 18:26, 24 September 2021 (UTC), GOCE copyeditors have processed 468 requests since 1 January and there were 60 requests awaiting completion on the Requests page. The backlog of articles tagged for copy-editing stood at 433 (see monthly progress graph above).

Thank you all again for your participation; we wouldn't be able to achieve what we have without you! Cheers from your GOCE coordinators Jonesey95, Dhtwiki, Tenryuu, and Miniapolis.

To discontinue receiving GOCE newsletters, please remove your name from our mailing list.

Apolinario Mabini edit

Sorry to bother you. Your name jumped out as the user reverting issues at Apolinario Mabini. I've just spent sometime correcting cite errors at the article, but now looking at the edit history it appears another IP has been deleting refs from the article and the whole lot might have to be rolled back.

If you look at the differences between you last edit and the current article [4] I don't think there's anything constructive. My edits only undo some of the damage that has been done.

What do you think? Thanks 89.241.33.89 (talk) 20:13, 3 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

You are correct. At this time I am busy working on other articles, and I am doing my best to stay out of that very personal and contentious AfD. Huggle revert? edit

User:JPxG, before reverting me, can you see the discussion at Talk:Breast_tax#Redirect? An IP is disrupting the page by removing the redirect when the consensus is towards the redirect and his only reason is "Upper caste people want to hide this totally".[9] I am basically reverting the vandalism here. Can you self-revert your restoration of the redirect? 27.57.177.155 (talk) 03:59, 8 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

I see you are editing both manually and with automated tool after I made this message above. Can you reply? 27.57.177.155 (talk) 04:16, 8 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
Hold on, let me take a look. jp×g 04:19, 8 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
Okay, this looks to me like a complicated enough issue that it should be resolved by an AfD rather than local talk page consensus... there was an AfD last year and a DRV that concluded "keep" (not "redirect"). I think your best bet here would be to renominate for deletion, if you feel that strongly about it. jp×g 04:27, 8 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Question edit

I would rather answer your question here, than create more work for the closer of the RfC. I think this RfC would have been as just avoidable as the first one, had Shibbolethink agreed to stick to the sources. Unfortunately, this is not the case, and JoelleJay is arguing that this group's claims aren't WP:DUE, while PaleoNeonate argues that the page should not have passed WP:AFD. I actually don't have a problem calling them activists, so long as it's not the only descriptor, and I also don't mind citing WP:MEDRS for BALANCE, where possible. However, due to the censorship in China, balance won't actually be possible, and this is a key point that editors will have to grapple with for a long time to come. 217.35.76.147 (talk) 22:02, 10 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Image deletion edit

My deletion of images at Chevrolet C/K was not unexplained, it was to remove pictures of modified vehicles which do not in any way help the article. Thanks,  Mr.choppers | ✎  02:06, 11 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Mr.choppers: I think whether they help the article is fairly subjective -- it's not like additional illustrations are costing us much, and they help to show what the subject of the article looks like. jp×g 21:15, 21 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
@JPxG: I disagree. First of all, see WP:NOTGALLERY. Too many pictures makes for cluttered, slow-loading pages - especially for phone users. One can go to the Commons to see all the pictures. Also, pictures of modified and altered trucks do not help showing the subject of the article. Also, see the WP Automobile guidelines for images in articles (relevant text bolded):
"We strive to illustrate our articles with high-quality images. We agree to the following general standards:
  1. Images shall enhance the article in which they are placed and must feature the subject of the article section near which they are placed.
  2. The image subject—automobile, engine, or component—must be the center of the image's composition.
  3. Use the "thumbnail" option for all images other than those inside infoboxes. In accordance with Wikipedia:Manual of Style#Images, do not specify the size of the thumbnail as this is specified in user preferences.
  4. Always use free images, preferably uploaded to Wikimedia Commons. Images of vehicles are seldom irreplaceable. Do not use "fair use" promotional images of vehicles.
  5. The image selected for an article's top (lead) infobox does not need to show any particular version or generation of the vehicle, such as the latest, the last, the first, the best-selling, or any other. However, the image must be representative; low-volume, obscure/unusual, or otherwise unrepresentative variants are generally not preferred for the lead infobox image. Vehicle production date is not a factor when determining the quality of an image and its suitability to illustrate the lead infobox.
  6. Use images of cars in good, complete, clean, and original condition whenever possible. Avoid pictures of customized cars (e.g. incorrect wheels or other aftermarket components like bodykits or conversions for police or taxi applications) as they are not representative of the vehicle's factory specification (unless the text in context to the picture is dealing with the customization of the vehicle, such as the Ford Crown Victoria as a police interceptor or as a taxicab). The vehicle's hood should be closed unless the engine is also a focus of the picture and the text in context is referring to the engine.
  7. The quality of an image is always more important than the quantity of images included—a gallery or a link to Wikimedia Commons is preferable to flooding an article with images.
  8. The caption must clearly identify the vehicle. The year or model year (single year or range), model code, or any other relevant descriptor (for example, "pre-facelift" and "facelift") should be included in the image caption. If available, the trim level should also be included.
  9. Infobox pictures shall depict the front ¾ (three-quarter) view from the height of an ordinary person."
Lastly, see Commons automobile photo guidelines. Thanks,  Mr.choppers | ✎  02:21, 22 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Dundee Public Art Programme edit

HI, I don't know if this is the correct way of communicating and as I unfamiliar with the format. Can I please ask that you don't refer to me in the article. Also the quote re debt and SAC funding is incorrect and misleading. SAC changed their funding to all public art agencies at this time and was not due to the finances of DPAP. And there is a lot more detail around the DPAP finances which cannot simply be summed up as 'debt' with the implication that this caused the end of the programme. The decision to wind down the company was based on the decline of opportunities in the city and there was simply no need for a full time development organisation of its type. Many other companies managing public art programmes in the UK went through similar situations - they were very much of their time. And in that context, given all the good work to sustain the programme for as long as we did and create lots of opportunities for artists in the city and beyond, it was shocking to see the description 'inexperienced' next to my name and all that it infers. I hope you will take time to read this and respect my request to not want to be referred to in the article. thanks John Chazziesdad (talk) 12:46, 22 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Chazziesdad: I assume this is in reference to the revert I made on the page -- that was purely for an unexplained removal of content. I can't speak much to the rest of the page or its content (I just saw it while patrolling Special:RecentChanges). jp×g 21:17, 21 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
