Hi. Thanks for your note. The post you saw on my talk page was regarding the deletion of a category that the other editor had created at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2009 April 25. My concern was that the names of the categories were incorrect according to our manual of style, but I was also concerned about how such categories would be used and whether they would be inappropriately applied. I am not very fond of labels myself, but I do think, in this case, it was more in regard to accurate categorization that it was stigmatization. In any case, the link for the discussion is above. Hi there. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. If you can't type the tilde character, you should click on the signature button   located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. I'm sorry, I missed the second message you left for me. The blue icon with the I is just an icon that denotes information. Everyone has the icon at the bottom of the contributions page and the links next to it gives a quick rundown of pages that relate to your editing. You can probably find a lot of answers if you would look through the pages linked at WP:HELP and at Wikipedia:New contributors' help page. I hope that helps! WP:FILMS Welcome edit

Welcome!

Hey, welcome to WikiProject Films! We're a group of editors working to improve Wikipedia's coverage of films, awards, festivals, filmmaking, and film characters. If you haven't already, please add {{User WikiProject Films}} to your user page.

A few features that you might find helpful:

  • Most of our important discussions about the project itself and its related articles take place on the project's main discussion page; it is highly recommended that you watchlist it.

There is a variety of interesting things to do within the project; you're free to participate however much—or little—you like:

  • Want to jump right into editing? The style guidelines show things you should include.
  • Want to assist in some current backlogs within the project? Visit the Announcements template to see how you can help.
  • Want to know how good our articles are? Our assessment department has rated the quality of every film article in Wikipedia. Check it out!

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask another fellow member, and we'll be happy to help you. Again, welcome! We look forward to seeing you around! Happy editing! Nehrams2020 (talkcontrib) 00:14, 11 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for contacting me, and again, welcome to the project. Our project currently has over 55,000 film and film-related articles under our scope. As of right now, around 600 are B-class or above. We're always striving to improve articles to higher quality, and that usually takes adding some content, some sources, and following the guidelines at WP:MOSFILM. First, I'd recommend working on articles that you know about. Is there a particular film(s) that you enjoy or are interested in? If so, consider working on that film and see how you can improve it. I would recommend looking to some of our project's best work to see how you can improve a particular article. Or, if you are interested in just cleaning up articles, consider taking a look at this category: Category:Film articles needing attention. Within the category are various categories on improving articles by adding infoboxes, cleaning up plot summaries, adding sources, etc. If you haven't already, take a look at the main project page and explore the different departments to get a good idea of the project, its task forces, and its members. Our project needs assistance in all areas, and it's up to you on where you want to help out. My talk page is always available if you have questions on a particular article or guideline. Or you can always leave a message at the main WP:FILM talk page (or other WP:FILM members' talk pages), where multiple editors should be available to help you out. We're a pretty nice bunch, and are always happy to help those that want to improve film articles. Let me know what you're interested in working on and maybe I can provide you some better guidance. --Happy editing! Nehrams2020 (talkcontrib) 22:36, 20 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

May 2009 edit

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, your addition of one or more external links to the page Samy y Sandra Sandoval has been reverted.
Your edit here was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove unwanted links and spam from Wikipedia. The external link you added or changed is on my list of links to remove and probably shouldn't be included in Wikipedia. The external links I reverted were matching the following regex rule(s): \bangelfire\.com\b (links: http://www.angelfire.com/vamp/arlyn/biografias.htm, http://www.angelfire.com/vamp/arlyn/biografias.htm, http://www.angelfire.com/vamp/arlyn/biografias.htm).
If you were trying to insert an external link that does comply with our policies and guidelines, then please accept my creator's apologies and feel free to undo the bot's revert. However, if the link does not comply with our policies and guidelines, but your edit included other changes to the article, feel free to make those changes again without re-adding the link. Please read Wikipedia's external links guideline for more information, and consult my list of frequently-reverted sites. For more information about me, see my FAQ page. Thanks! --XLinkBot (talk) 00:17, 31 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Though I am still learning about contributing, I have contributed enough to know the basics. The Samy y Sandra Sandoval article was not properly referenced or linked. Further, it was lacking key and vital information, and, though it read smoothly, it appeared as though the article was written by a Foreigner speaker of the English language. It appeared as though someone took the Spanish language version of the article and used a very high powered translator for the English version. Next, I clicked on every one of your links, and I did not find that Angelfire.com was a "blacklisted" spam site. If I am wrong, please excuse me. Next, other than the angelfire.com link, I saw nothing in my article which violates Wikipedia's policies or guidelines. I take painstaking efforts to reference, link and verify my contributions, and I still get it wrong, occasionally. I am not sure if you or the Bot system automatically reverted my work. I was in the end process of making the edits to this article that literally took over six hours. Perhaps you could wait until I have made my changes before reverting my work. Tell me what I have done that is in error, and you or I can edit the work. I see that you are a Bot, I will assume you are a real person, and not a system generated command. Thank you--irshgrl500 (talk) 01:09, 31 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

XLinkBot is indeed a bot, and that was a computer-generated message. New users aren't allowed to add links to angelfire, among other various sites that are not usually reliable enough to link from Wikipedia. Stifle (talk) 14:17, 8 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Stifle/wizard Thank you very much. I was trying to add reliable information to the article on Samy y Sandra Sandoval. I searched the Internet in English and Spanish, and surprisingly, could find little information from reliable sources. I apologize for not recognizing that Angelfire is not to be used by new users. I guess I am sort of new. I have been making contributions to Wikipedia since 2007 but have recently increased my efforts and time devoted to contributions. Thanks again.--irshgrl500 (talk) 14:25, 8 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Request to participate in University of Washington survey on tool to quickly understand Wikipedians’ reputations edit

Hello. I'm part of a research group at the University of Washington. In April, we met with some local Wikipedians to learn what they would like to know about other editors’ history and activities (within Wikipedia) when interacting with them on talk pages. The goal of those sessions was to gather feedback to help design an embedded application that could quickly communicate useful information about other Wikipedians. We have now created a few images that we feel represent some of what our participants thought was important. We would appreciate it if you took a few minutes of your time to complete an online survey that investigates whether or not these images would be useful to you. Your quick contribution would be very valuable to our research group and ultimately to Wikipedia. (When finished, the code for this application will be given over to the Wikipedia community to use and/or adjust as they see fit.)

Willing to spend a few minutes taking our survey? Click this link.

Please feel free to share the link with other Wikipedians. The more feedback, the better! The survey is completely anonymous and takes less than 10 minutes to complete. All data is used for university research purposes only.

Thank you for asking but I prefer not to participate. --irshgrl500 (talk) 00:37, 10 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

your questions edit

Hey Kat! I think I formatted the references in Aeroméxico Flight 498 the way you intended. To have multiple citations to a single footnote, you need to you the named references format.

Your other questions:

  1. Redirects are titles that point to a differently titled page, or section within a page. They are used when there are multiple terms that people use for the same topic, or when the term is covered briefly in an article about a broader topic but shouldn't have a separate article. See Wikipedia:Redirect for more information on how they work and how they are used. If you ever search for something on Wikipedia but don't put in quite the same title as a the article you were looking for, that's usually a sign that a redirect would be useful, pointing from the term you searched for (which someone else will probably search for too) to the article you wanted.
  2. You can use your own user page, or a subpage of your userpage, to keep whatever links and information you would like. These are accessible, and technically editable, by other editors. But by convention, people will leave your user page and subpages alone. A subpage of your userpage is something like User:Irshgrl500/My page of links and stuff.

Let me know if any of that is confusing.--ragesoss (talk) 02:47, 22 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge edit

Hi, at Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge we're striving to bring about 10,000 article improvements and creations for the UK and Ireland and inspire others to create more content. In order to achieve this we need diversity of content, in all parts of the UK and Ireland on all topics. Eventually a regional contest will be held for all parts of the British Isles, like they were for Wales and the Wedt Country. We currently have just over 1900 articles and need contributors! If you think you'd be interested in collaborating on this and helping reach the target quicker, please sign up and begin listing your entries there as soon as possible! Proposed deletion of File:Playing in cage.jpg edit

The file File:Playing in cage.jpg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

unused, low-res, no obvious use

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.

This bot DID NOT nominate any file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 01:01, 9 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

March 2022 edit

Hi Irshgrl500! I noticed that you have reverted to restore your preferred version of Joanelle Romero several times. The impulse to undo an edit you disagree with is understandable, but I wanted to make sure you're aware that the edit warring policy disallows repeated reversions even if they are justifiable.

All editors are expected to discuss content disputes on article talk pages to try to reach consensus. If you are unable to agree at Talk:Joanelle Romero, please use one of the dispute resolution options to seek input from others. Using this approach instead of reverting can help you avoid getting drawn into an edit war. Thank you. Netherzone (talk) 22:25, 5 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Joanelle Romero. This means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be although other editors disagree. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus, rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Points to note:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made;
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes and work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. Read the guidelines that have been posted. The BLP subject has a conflict of interest and should not be editing their own article. Additionally, the article subject's self-claims are not a reliable source for a Wikipedia article. Read the links you've been provided about sourcing Indigenous identity on Wikipedia - CorbieVreccan 21:29, 6 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

CorbieVreccan & Netherzone Thank you for the explanations of why my edits were reverted. I do now, understand. However, I know nothing of editing or the rules on Wikipedia. It has been 6 years since I've made any contributions to Wikipedia, erroneous or otherwise. CorbieVreccan, you mentioned that once an edit has been reverted or again, edited that there should be some sort of discussion as to why there were reversions or edits. Netherzone, simply referenced an article, without any explanation. You, CorbieVreccan were super helpful.Irshgrl500 (talk · contribs) 23:31, 6 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hello colleague,

I am interested in the Middle Ages too.

I created Category:Medieval civilizations which is part of Category:Civilizations by time. The former is nominated for deletion and at the moment the vote is 2:0 in favor of deletion. I am used to deletions, but this time I am stunned. I do not believe there is no place for such a category. I believe that most people with interest in history would agree that civilizations existed in the Middle Ages. I ask people to contribute their opinion to the discussion.
