Can it be RfA teim now, pleas?

Umm, you may want to transclude the nom page on the WP:RFA page, if you have finished answering the questions! Good luck. Woodym555 13:55, 3 November 2007 (UTC)

Thanks, Woody. I had to rush to work. Just got back. :) LaraLove 15:45, 3 November 2007 (UTC)

WT:RFA [2]

Hiya Lara. Just to let you know this is not about you but driven by the number of people that have commented about my neutral, both at you RfA and on my talk page. Your RFA's going great and I know you'll be fine with the mop! :) Pedro :  Chat  20:38, 5 November 2007 (UTC)

Your RfA

Lara, I wanted to leave you a personal note. As you know, I supported you (of course I'm sorry I did it so quickly--I hadn't realized a pre-transclusion support would be controversial). I put a comment in my support about your passion and strong opinions, and how you've expressed them in the past; I trusted you to use your best judgement in the future. I've been impressed by the way you've reacted to the negative comments being posted, and wanted to pass that along. I don't like RfA much; it has a tendency to drag into the open every little incident that could possibly be given a negative construction, along with the occasional genuine criticism. Standing up to that takes self-confidence as well as the ability to keep your temper. I think your nomination will be successful and you'll be promoted, and I'm sure you'll continue to be both level-headed and dedicated: a terrific combination for the encyclopedia. Stay calm, and good luck. Mike Christie (talk) 17:45, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

Thank you, Mike. GA disputes have taught me this, which is most ironic. I acknowledge that I used to be snappy and a troll feeder, but I've actively made a successful effort to take the advice of such essays as Wikipedia:Staying cool when the editing gets hot, Wikipedia:Shunning, Wikipedia:Drop the stick and back slowly away from the horse carcass, Wikipedia:Headless Chickens, Wikipedia:No angry mastodons, etc. and the advice of my peers here. It was actually my interaction with Marskell and that mess that really made me realize I need to start stepping back. Not only for my own good, but for the betterment of the project. LaraLove 18:48, 6 November 2007 (UTC)
I just wanted to say keep up the good work, this RfA is quite baffling. I can't believe some of the opposition comments solely due to your involvement in the GA process. Although I'm not as involved in GA as you (not close by a long shot!), I'm afraid that if I was running the same time as you, I'd be getting the same opposition. Please don't let their comments turn you away from GA (which I'm sure it won't), you are definitely an asset to the process. Best wishes, I hope the RfA ends well. --Nehrams2020 01:44, 7 November 2007 (UTC)
Thanks, Nehrams. At least I was prepared. We expected this. LaraLove 02:32, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

Your RfA

I'm really, truly sorry to have opposed, and in a sense I hope it passes. But please, you really need to calm down and listen to opposes - and if you are, you need to give that impression too. Dihydrogen Monoxide 11:52, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

It's fine. I'm calm, I'm listening to opposes, but it's a catch-22 in giving that impression. I defended myself in the answers to questions 7 and 9, I can't reply to the current opposes, so it's in the hands of voter interpretation at this point. Thanks for the note. :) LaraLove 14:03, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
Commenting here rather than mess up your talkpage with yet another section - just wanted to say that whichever way your RFA goes, I think it's absolutely ridiculous the way the "oppose" section has gone. (That's not a dig at H2O, or any of the other opposers who've given a valid reason, but at the handful who seem to take things way too seriously.) I don't always (or often) agree with you on things on the rare occasions we've crossed - and I do think the GAC/FAC processes are unsalvageable trainwrecks that should probably be scrapped and rebuilt from scratch on a voting model instead of the current "one person's opinion is enough" model - but some of the people commenting seem to have mistaken "minor additional administrative functions" for "President of the United States" as regards the levels of "zomg if she wins she'll start world war three" hysteria.iridescent 14:22, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
I agree. You are being opposed for taking an active stance. I don't understand how editors can come to a 'discussion' and are shocked and dismayed that it works 2 ways. People need to just be honest like parents do and suck it up saying,, "This is not a discussion," because if you can be opposed for defending yourself, then it is truly not. the_undertow talk 14:31, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
I've been reading over it all again and I don't see where I give the impression I'm freaking out. I mean, don't get me wrong, it's been a stressful week! But I'm chillin' like a villain over here... okay, perhaps "villain" is not the best term when one is going for adminship, but I didn't write it, I just read it. ;) My nails are unbitten, my floor unpaced, my liquor cabinet untouched. I've not smoked more than usual, at least not since Tuesday :P. I've not hit up a voo doo shop for doll making materials and I'm well rested (today). I'm doin' alright, despite the impression some are getting from my replies. I think I wrote them with a different tone than they're being read. ó.Ò LaraLove 16:03, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

Question

I know, your RFA will be over soon, but, I've added a question to it. Thought I'd let you know, Thanks! :) SQLQuery me! 09:10, 10 November 2007 (UTC)

good luck

Hello Lara, I don't believe we have ever communicated. I was looking at the current list of RfAs and saw all the comments on yours. While I'm not in the mood right now to go through your contributions (something I strongly believe should be done with any RfA candidate) and participate, I do want to say how disturbed and offended I was when I read a certain sexist oppose comment (you know the one). I think it's telling of certain lingering attitudes in society that this oppose never (to my knowledge) comes up when a male or anonymous person seeks adminship. Although I won't be formally participating in your RfA, I do want to wish you the best of luck with everything. --Kyoko 09:26, 10 November 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for your kind words. I found that users series of opposes the most amusing... and ironic. He originally opposed because I had mistakenly accused him of sockpuppetry earlier in the week. A couple of days after he opposed my RfA, he was indef blocked for sockpuppetry. Good times. LaraLove 16:13, 10 November 2007 (UTC)

Congratulations! I've been very impressed with what I've seen of your work. Your great efforts in improving the references in a single Good Article first brought you to my attention. The quality of your work impressed me. Your conscientiousness impressed me. You didn't know anything about the person whom the article was about, which made your contributions even more impressive to me personally. It made you stand out in my mind, so much so that when I happened to see that you were up for admin, I felt inspired to study more of your history and then to vote for someone who will make an outstanding administrator. Yet more RfA congrats

I'm glad you made it through the gauntlet. I didn't watch it but comments here indicate it was difficult. Be not downhearted or sorrowful. Your work and judgment seem sound to me and I'm sure you will do well. I'm only a day or two ahead of you, admin experience-wise, so if you have any questions, I sincerely doubt they'll sound stupid to me in my own ignorance. I was going to say "then ask me" but suddenly realize that leadup suggests asking me is a fruitless exercise. Yet it's a little like being members of a graduating class, you know? Your RfA cont'd

When my own RfA passed, I did not hand out dozens of thank yous. The notes have always struck me as a bit of form-filling—not especially meaningful. What I do find classy is users who drop a note to opposers as well as supporters after an RfA. So I respect your post to my talk page and thank you for it.

It’s quite possible that if my oppose had arrived on the first rather than the fifth day of your RfA, the RfA would have failed. The earlier opposes were generally trivial. But I don’t think mine was and you can understand that I wanted to register it clearly; it did, obviously, have a (late) effect. The people who opposed subsequent to me are good Wikipedians, worth listening to. Outriggr’s rationale I found especially astute: if it’s not clear, it was the "off the record" comments to G’Guy that bothered me more than anything. It’s not slander, if you say it to my face.

All of that said, I’m with another editor who noted “I'm really, truly sorry to have opposed, and in a sense I hope it passes.” There was nothing vindictive in my oppose. I was aware it wouldn’t have an affect on the ultimate outcome. But it needed to be registered. You might not think so now, but it was probably good for your editorship that my oppose happened during your RfA. Best of luck, Marskell 21:54, 11 November 2007 (UTC)

Well done
