Short descriptions

If you're asking who I am, I'm a user on this website, like you. I'm also an administrator, which means that I can block vandals. The problem here is that your short descriptions are not short enough. We just want you to follow the instructions in the template, {{Short description}}, which says to limit the descriptions to 40 characters. If you make them longer than this, someone else will have to reduce them if they want the descriptions to conform to the instructions. There are reasons why we might want to do this, such conciseness and not wanting to take up a lot of space on tiny smartphone displays. For pop culture, genre can be contentious, especially when more than one genre is applied. See WP:GWAR and WP:FILMGENRE. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 23:39, 18 May 2022 (UTC)

Thank you for stopping, and sorry that successfully editing Wikipedia is not as easy as may be portrayed. Examining WP:Short description and its talk page shows that {{short description}} is for people searching on a mobile device with a small screen. In that search, entering a word or two will list articles of possible relevance. The title and short description of each is shown. The purpose of the description is for disambiguation, for example by providing the profession and birth/death years of a person. @RandomCanadian: Thanks but I noticed that and thought it best to ignore the issue given the pleasant exchange in this section. HuiYongChin made that edit before replying here and conceivably may not have digested the situation.

There is a lot of tolerance for nonsense from new editors so I am not going to do anything more at the moment other than warn HuiYongChin a final time that I will block them for escalating periods if they increase the number of words in an existing short description without first gaining positive agreement for their edits. In particular, edit warring is not permitted, even if done slowly, for example at Scoundrels (TV series):

• 14:44 24 May 2022 by HuiYongChin

The Misfits (2021 film) shows these examples:

@HuiYongChin: Adding a new short description as in the above examples is probably acceptable but you really should find something else to do because comments on this page and at the Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents report mentioned above show that your edits are causing trouble. Questions can be asked at WP:Teahouse. Repeating: You will be blocked if you increase the length of a short description without prior agreement.
