You are now a Reviewer edit

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 04:56, 16 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Brilliant edit

Adding trove assisted history of bins is just great! thank you very much...

just a pity - the grain pool and pre 1930s grain stuff hasnt really been dealt well with yet sats 02:53, 6 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

I was going to message you to see if you had any material on the grain pool of WA (pre-CBH days) to see if we had enough to make an article out of. Maybe one for the future? Hughesdarren (talk) 03:09, 6 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

heaps http://trove.nla.gov.au/result?q=grain+pool+of+western - I was listening to two old guys just last week hearing how they used to lift bags almost as heavy as themselves :( sats 03:21, 6 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
Like the Western Australian Farmers Federation labyrinthian history - the early stages of the CBH, Grain Pool and various farmers groups all need clear separate articles (or good summaries of the shenannagians as illustrated in the time line at the Western Australian Farmers Federation article).

Anything of any sort that you can do to help with anything to do with it all is appreciated - it sure is a lot more complex than first meets the eye - even trying to look at a cbh site in the wheatbelt without any textual help - the range of structures, types and possible variations - is not straight forward.

Thank you for whatever you can do! sats 04:30, 6 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

brilliant again - thank you so much for getting the wheat pool article done! sats 03:53, 13 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
Cheers - nice work on the cbh and grain storage stuff too. wheat pool art sill has pleanty of holes, still wading through on Trove to fill them. Hughesdarren (talk) 04:59, 13 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

Yeeda Station edit

I've copy-edited Yeeda Station. Some of the punctuation was such that I couldn't be sure of your intended meaning - I've done my best, but you should check it. There's a reasonable possibility that my changes, while grammatically correct, don't convey the meaning that you had intended. Mitch Ames (talk) 13:09, 1 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your efforts, looks good. Hughesdarren (talk) 02:27, 2 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Nullarbor article edit

Looks very much like something the state of the goldfields water supply article has been in for about 5 years now - great potential, a mess and probably a lot of hard work to fix up to a good standard - are you interested in sharing some off wiki info to see what we can dop to build either up at all? just an idea (like many others...) btw well done for the dyks on the station articles! sats 14:23, 3 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, Just had a bit of a fiddle with the nullarbor article, nothing serious. Have about another dozen station articles to keep me going for a while, but thanks for the offer. Hughesdarren (talk) 01:31, 4 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

fine - i suppose really this was as much as a reminder to self that the nullarbor article needs lot of work - the station material is great!! sats 02:38, 4 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Your request for rollback edit

Hi Hughesdarren. After reviewing your request for rollback, I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war.
  • If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
  • Use common sense.

If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! Beeblebrox (talk) 19:23, 21 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

at my work today I found the WAGR annual report for 1932 which identified the first 5 sidings by which the whole cbh system started - however I started removing the link to cbh as cbh didnt start until a year or so later - it was really wesfarmers and or the wheat pool that was the official name against the start of the system, sorry if i didnt do it very well - but now that i have found the details of the 5 i have put the info in a number of arts - cheers satusuro 09:57, 2 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

The Shire of Merredin was today advised by Brookfield (who run the grain freight rails) that they will be closing the Quairading & Trayning lines at the end of this month. The remainder of the tier 3 lines will stay open over harvest but no firm decision on their future is to be expected until early next year from facebook. satusuro 12:09, 2 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

Bushfires in Australia edit

Hello Hughesdarren

Just wanted to ask about your revert and edit here. Specifically, if the one death is a typo? I have added a source for the 'Warrumbungle'/ Coonabarabran fire, but there is no mention of any deaths. 220 of Borg 13:31, 22 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

Fixed, must have missed the 1 when I copied the line of table code for Warrumbungle. Cheers Hughesdarren (talk) 22:16, 22 October 2013 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. :-) That page needs some work, and I think some notable bushfires need articles written. At the very least each event listed should have a source if it has no page of its own. 220 of Borg 18:15, 23 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

Howdy. It seems our mutual friend didn't like my choice of name for a category for islands off the Goldfields-Esperence coast. FYI - I have no barrow to push - I just want a complete set of categories into which I can plonk each of the 1,000+ islands. If you have a look at my talk page, you'll see that he's got a few extra things on his mind at the moment. If/when he or you or both of you can come up with a set of categories, I happy to use them. In the interim, I'm in limbo. Cheers, Pdfpdf (talk) 10:59, 5 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

Howdy, I don't have strong opinion on the names of any categories either but would be happy to work with whatever everyone else is happy with. The regions of WA seem like a logical choice to me, unless there are other suggestions. Hughesdarren (talk) 11:57, 5 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
Actually it is a less of my problem as whether there is any interest in Integrated_Marine_and_Coastal_Regionalisation_of_Australia being ignored or tied in ... satusuro 12:03, 5 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

Where to discuss a (complete) set of categories? edit

Could a discussion be started somewhere? As I said I'm happy with whatever the consensus is. Hughesdarren (talk) 12:12, 5 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
Good idea! Where?
My preference is Category talk:Islands of Western Australia, particulary given that these categories will be subordinate to Category:Islands of Western Australia, AND that Category:Islands of Western Australia already contains:
  • Islands of the Gascoyne (Western Australia)
  • Islands of the Goldfields-Esperance region (Western Australia)
  • Islands of the Great Southern (Western Australia)
  • Islands of the Kimberley (Western Australia)
  • Islands of the Mid West (Western Australia)
  • Islands of the Perth region (Western Australia)
  • Islands of the Pilbara (Western Australia)
  • Islands of the South West (Western Australia)‎
i.e. It already contains "Island" entries for 8 of the 10 "Regions of Western Australia"
(i.e. I'm soliciting your opinion of my opinion/suggestion.)
Cheers, Pdfpdf (talk) 13:33, 5 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
Moved to Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Western Australia for ideas. Hughesdarren (talk) 22:45, 5 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

melangata edit

have we ever had an on wiki or off wiki conversation about the melangata station (south of meka, and adjacent to dalgaranga and north of yalgoo) ? I think it is worth a try if we havent discussed it... satusuro 12:21, 22 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hi there, I don't think so but will look into it after I finish Boolaloo. Hot enough for you up there? Hughesdarren (talk) 12:31, 22 January 2014 (UTC)Reply
have started the stub - I used to stay at melangata many years ago, the breezeway that hawes designed was a favourite spot for the big snakes... i really like his interest in towers, there are rumours on a very scattered grapevine the current owners have had the chapel collapse and the tower might have been repaired ok - as for the cbd i was wandering the cbd the same time the choppers and the coppers were wandering the route i take to get to the archives... apart from that its all chinese blessing - uninteresting... meka, and dalgaranga are much larger and more colourful with their histories i think. and the heat there (melangata), hahaha makes perth cbd like a mediterranean paradise - if not a bit more albany or augusta like... satusuro 12:43, 22 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your help... appreciate it. I suspect the history of the earlier parts is well worth exploring as well as the heritage statement has quite a lot of info as well... satusuro 23:18, 22 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

any chance of one of your mahgical location maps and info boxes? satusuro 00:12, 23 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for that satusuro 00:39, 23 January 2014 (UTC)Reply
wow - some more yalgoo station work (Meka) - great work... - do you have access to info that designates which pastoral leases the DEC/DPAW more or less resumed to be let go back to 'reserve status'? I think at least 5 in the Murchison/Yalgoo area in the last 20 years have had that done... any knowledge of that at all? The locals were bad tempered about it as it involved no maintenance of wells/etc and the claims were that some wildlife had grown dependant on the sources for survival satusuro 08:58, 25 January 2014 (UTC)Reply
There was plenty of mentions of Meka when I was looking for stuff for Melangata, so it was pretty easy to put together (although not yet completed). As for resumption I haven't been able to find anything. I had looked online for any list of current pastoral leases and the only one that seems to exist is the one that you put on Wikipedia.Hughesdarren (talk) 09:22, 25 January 2014 (UTC)Reply
Re resumption - I think there must be something somewhere - the era of my visits to the area was in the early 2000s when the local stations were making out of goat catching and selling on to the guys exporting (think long since gone as a viable business) - oh well... As for the pastoral lease list issue - have been in contact about 2 years ago with people who had lists of earlier era pastoral lease names and sizes - it makes the sorting of what was what and what became what a small headache, then about 2 years ago sold my large portraits of station owners in 1920s to a former archaeologist who works for one of the very big mining companies - and his life (then) was involved in buying and sealing pastoral leases to facilitate the mining companies activities .... no longer in contact with him though satusuro 09:34, 25 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

iinet edit

My wife and I made the poor decision to change internet service providers to iinet recently. Unfortunately iinet seem to be particularly disinterested in providing any actual service and as a result we have been without the internet for the past 3 weeks and will now probably have to wait until at least the 21st of this month, assuming they comply with the telecommunication ombudsman order. Hopefully will be editing sometime again soon, wishing you all the best. Hughesdarren (talk) 10:56, 11 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

Only took 1 month and 5 days before iinet finally got Telstra around to check our line and find the fault. It only took them 5 minutes, outstanding work iinet, we only suggested you do this about 3 weeks ago. Hughesdarren (talk) 11:07, 28 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

North longitude? edit

I notice in a lot of articles you edited, you specified that the longitude coordinate of a point was in the north direction (when you meant east), which is incorrect and causes errors. [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] I've been fixing them as I've seen them pop up, but it will take a while for them to all get categorized. If you know of any other articles where this is like this, can you fix them? Thanks, Jackmcbarn (talk) 00:53, 18 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hi Jack, I'm not too sure how I managed to get those ones wrong but will keep my eye out for any articles with the same mistake. Cheers Hughesdarren (talk) 05:55, 28 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

List of pastoral leases in Western Australia edit

Hello. I see you edited a lot List of pastoral leases in Western Australia. Would you be interested in creating similar pages with lists of pastoral leases for each state? I am not sure where to find those lists though. Thank you.Zigzig20s (talk) 11:28, 4 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Satusuro created the page, I merely added links to the station article. I've been unable to find the information to create the lists you are interested in. Regards Hughesdarren (talk) 12:06, 4 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Removed large and variegated response - to make lists as such is a pointless exercise unless adequate distinction is made as to identify the various jursidictions variations in management of rangelands. To make lists of stations per se might seem an innocent enough exercise for simple wikipedia say, but if a responsible wikipedia article about rangeland management or pastoral leases in different jurisdictions in Australia, a more thorough approach is required with adequate backup from official sources. satusuro 15:06, 4 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
What's wrong with a list of stations in each state, as long as we can find sources for it?Zigzig20s (talk) 15:52, 4 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
Not sure what you are looking at - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Pastoral_leases_in_Australia already exists - you dont need sources for what is there.... satusuro 09:44, 5 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
wow - what a mess of a set of categories and lack of work - Australian agriculture is clearly not a priority for any editors... satusuro 10:56, 5 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
Also List of ranches and stations, and you are right, thousands of editors spend countless hours updating the lastest film stars/pop bands/TV shows while forgetting what keeps us fed...Hughesdarren (talk) 11:13, 5 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
despite that, the quality of articles that i have checked recently is crap Agatha Christie and a few music articles of divergent groups have more issues than you could poke a stick at. satusuro 12:02, 5 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
It would seen the articles would suit the target audience then, See you also have a bit of interest in Sid Kidman lately, good story don't you think? Do you reckon it might be worth inserting a table of the stations he owned into the article itself or is the template down the bottom sufficient? Hughesdarren (talk) 12:09, 5 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
I think a table would be good if it had a sense of a timeline as well - the duration of ownership/the stretch of ownership/who owned next sort of stuff would increase the dimension of the article if possible. satusuro 13:51, 5 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Edit request for Sophie Hunter page edit

Hello! Can I ask a favor, please? Regarding Sophie Hunter's page, in her infobox J. E. B. Seely, 1st Baron Mottistone is listed as her "maternal great-great-grandfather", if you double-check the source, Seely is actually only his "maternal great-grandfather". In her Background (Family) section, it also lists Seeley as "great-great-grandfather", can you please be so kind and remove the extra "great" to make it accurate? And describing Seeley as "World War I hero" can be considered fluffing and violates neutral point-of-view. The page should plainly describe him as a politician. Thank you very much for your consideration! Keep up the good work here on Wiki! 59.152.169.240 (talk) 11:15, 21 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hi edit

You made an edit at Wellshot Station. Can you take a look at Eric Ronald Inglis and see if it can be condensed, merged into Wellshot Station. Thanks.E.M.Gregory (talk) 15:45, 5 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hi, the merge isn't going to work, even a condensed version of the Inglis article wouldn't give much information on the station history. The Inglis article, while well written, fails on notability and looks to be headed toward deletion. Cheers anyway Hughesdarren (talk) 21:56, 5 March 2015 (UTC)Reply
