It is considered good practice to provide a summary for every edit, especially when reverting (undoing) the actions of other editors or deleting existing text; otherwise, people may question your motives for the edit.

Wikipedia is a team work and we need each other. We value your contributions. It's good you leave a summary so we can all know what you are contributing.

Accurate summaries help other contributors decide whether it is worthwhile for them to review an edit, and to understand the change should they choose to review it. When a major edit (e.g. deletion of a substantial amount of text, a significant addition, or a substantial rewrite) doesn't have an edit summary, there are fewer reasons you get many of the editors confused. Summaries are less important for minor changes (which means generally unchallengeable changes such as spelling or grammar corrections), but a brief note like "fixed spelling" is helpful even then.

To avoid accidentally leaving edit summaries blank, you can select "Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary" on the Editing tab of your user preferences

I don't know what you were trying to do, but you created an article Haylad/sandbox/Adebayo Adelabu which appears to be about an Engineer and former Basketball called Ahmadu Musa Kida, not Adebayo Adelabu at all. 1. Who is the article about? I assume it is not Adebayo Adelabu? is it Ahmadu Musa Kida or Ahmadu Musa Kids - as his name changes in the article? - What is he normally called - i.e, is "Musa" part of his WP:Common name in English? or is it just Ahmadu Kida or Ahmadu Kids?
2. Move the article to whatever the common name is - without the Haylad, or the sandbox, or the /'s - you moved the article to the current place, so should be able to move it again
3. Ask for the existing name, which will be kept as a redirect, to be deleted - add {{Db-error}} to the Haylad/sandbox/Adebayo Adelabu page - AFTER you have moved it to the new title, and explain that the previous title was a mistake in your edit summary

AfroCine: The Months of African Cinema Continues….

Thank you very much for signing up to participate in the Months of African Cinema global contest/edit-a-thon, and thank you for your contributions so far.

Hi, It is nice to meet you too Onel5969. I must say I like your Username.

I have removed the deletion tag and I have indicated the reasons I have for the page not to be deleted on the talk page. I will seek to improve the page in line with relevant criterion. I will love you to help improve the page the best way you can as I have kept so much effort in writing it.

Again, I feel there is something wrong in the way the Sports notability is being portrayed. There is a bias against sporting professionals in Africa, especially basketball players in Africa. My reason for saying this is that the WP:NBASKETBALL or WP:NCOLLATH doesn't have the players that ply their trade in Africa in view. There is a FIBA Afroleague basketball championship going on. I intend to write about teams and players that participated in this tournament; but with the WP:NBASKETBALL or WP:NCOLLATH in view, that will not possible. I feel strongly that this needs to be addressed, the Wikimedia Foundation is concerned about Africans writing about Africa(ns) for Africans and the Foundation is working on closing the content gap between Africa and the rest of the world. I feel such notability criterion as WP:NBASKETBALL or WP:NCOLLATH will deter Africans from writing or creating content on wikipedia. I feel with this Notability criterion as this 1.2 billion people who stay in Africa are being denied of relatable information because of notability rules such WP:NBASKETBALL or WP:NCOLLATH that was 'probably' decided by those who know little about Africa.

I know you didn't make the WP:NBASKETBALL or WP:NCOLLATH, but from your Userpage I can see you are a very experienced Wikipedian. Kindly direct me to the discussion page where I can share my thoughts.

I'm open to corrections if I'm being ignorant of any information as I wrote this with pain in my heart.

Those are all excellent points. Frankly, I'm not sure the best place to begin a discussion. WP has there general notability guidelines, and their "specialty guidelines" (SG's), like WP:NCOLLATH. I think if you ask a question at WP:Teahouse, someone might be able to point you to the best forum. If you do, let me know, as I'd like to participate in that discussion. I do quite a bit of reviewing of articles having to do with African topics, and they do suffer from our general notability guidelines, as well as the way the vast majority of editors do their research... in other words, online. There's a very good article at WP:WORLDVIEW, which talks about this. There's also WP:IAR, and in the spirit of that, and because of the quality of your article, I've reviewed it. But do please pursue the discussion based on what you wrote above, I feel it's worthwhile.Onel5969 ^{TT me} 23:32, 16 April 2019 (UTC)

While reviewing the page I came across some sources saying that the claim that Okolo was "the first black woman to get a PhD in aerospace engineering" is incorrect.[1] I'm not sure if this source is necessarily reliable, but it may be worth further investigation.

Hello Haylad. Thanks for creating the Page for Wendy Okolo and for all the work you're doing to showcase Nigerians on Wikipedia.

I was going to say that the edit you just made was not needed and that she was the first Black woman to graduate with a Ph.D. in Aerospace engineering from that University but then I did one last check and found out that the University doesn't have any news release to corroborate this. Even though I'm 99% sure this is true since I attended the same university and I even know her personally, without anything official from the university, we just can't say for sure. The other confusing thing is that people are saying she is the first black woman to get a Ph.D. in Aerospace engineering. This is not the case because Jeanette Epps got hers in 2000 and I'm not even sure that she was the first. I think someone made an honest mistake and misquoted this article but then people ran with that error and it has become this big mess. She being the first black woman to have a Ph.d in Aerospace Engineering from her University is not meant to be part of the content on her page. I will say, it is unfair to other people that have excelled in various fields of study that are of different races. You claim you know her personally, this might make you have a bias towards her, I love you to check the Neutral Point of View, it explains how Wikipedia manages fairness. I also want to know if you reside in Nigeria? as I want you join the Wikimedia User Group Nigeria. You're doing a Great job, please keep it up.

I still have different opinions about Wendy's page but I understand your point and think that part should stay as it is. As for Wikipedia's neutrality and fairness policy, I am fully aware and I understand(I'm part of the current Wikiscientists Cohort and we have discussed this at length). Personally, I think that as long as you do things in a professional manner and it's not a super close personal relationship (like a very close friend, or immediate family member), there could actually be some value to such. This issue is a perfect example. Initially, her page was linked to the wrong University Because we were both PhD students at the same University, I was able to correct this. Someone who didn't know her may have had a hard time catching that and I'm happy that I did. I made sure that I did not add any piece of information without a credible independent source and I think that's the kind of standard that needs to be maintained. Anyway, it's nice to talk to you. I did see the source Haylad presents here for the birthdate. It gives the year of birth, but not the day or month. So it's obviously not where that information could have come from. Since Haylad cannot provide the source on request and gives an obviously incorrect explanation instead, I consider it likely that that information came directly from Dremo and that the page is a work for hire, with Haylad the latest of several persons hired for the same job. Some people who are inexperienced do not regard minor facts like DOB with any importance like we do and can easily fill it with unverifiable figures. Ammarpad, if you read the dialogue above, I asked them about the DOB, giving them a chance to explain where it came from, either the subject or their imagination (or somewhere else). I specifically asked for the "exact birthdate", which is clearly not just the year. As I said above, I checked all cited sources (and, for good measure, the website given in the infobox), and none of them gave the exact birthdate. None of the sources presented here are reliable (in fact, they disagree on the birthdate and apparently all get it wrong), and more to the point, none of them were cited in the article. After some additional digging it seems possible that the information comes from a website not cited in the article, but then I'd have to wonder about your understanding of WP:IRS and WP:BLP. @Huon:, I do not have access to the deleted article I created and your claims above, doesn't dispute that his Birth date (month and day) can be easily accessed on google, I kept only an interview where the Subject (Dremo) was asked about the year he was born and he confirmed in the interview with his age. You claim the sources I posted for his birth date are not reliable; maybe my understanding of WP:IRS and WP:BLP is still weak and I constantly try to improve my Knowledge about Notability and Reliability. Apologies, if that is my sin in all of this.

However, I am repeating it again that I wasn’t contacted by the subject to recreate his deleted article. I'm not associated with the subject (Dremo) and I have never been an Hired editor. It is unfair to accuse me of being Hired by him when I have never been Hired by anybody to create content on wikipedia. I have never kept a promotional content on wikipedia and I never kept any promotional content in the Dremo article I created. You can check the previous article I have edited and you will see my records in removing promotional content from Nigerian Wikipedia articles especially Nigerian Political office Holders.

Also, I will reiterate again that I do not have another Wikipedia account and I have never been hired/paid to create content on wikipedia. I do all what I do out of the passion I have for closing the content gap on wikipedia. I have now spent considerable time looking through Haylad's contributions. There are numerous examples of additions of unsourced content on living people, both in drafts and in live articles (e.g. [9], [10], note the anachronistic error and the wrong edit summary). There are examples of flat-out wrong information with a cited source that doesn't confirm the information ([11]), and there's this visible to admins. There are "improvements" that introduce wrong grammar ([12]), and grammar in general is often error-prone. Here the subject's very name, as given in the first sentence, disagrees with the cited sources. Haylad is heavily invested in editing and creating BLPs, but after a year and a half on Wikipedia he says his understanding of key policies including WP:BLP itself may be "still weak". I originally asked about the unsourced personal information because that's often a hallmark of non-independent editors who make use of information that they have received from the article's subject. After the more thorough review of Haylad's edits, it seems more likely that he just took information from somewhere on the internet and didn't cite his source, reliable or not. Now "persistent addition of unsourced content" isn't the original block reason, but it's a severe problem in its own right, particularly in BLPs. Haylad is welcome to request another review of their block via the {{unblock}} template, but personally I'd be reluctant to unblock at this point. Huon (talk) 22:35, 7 September 2019 (UTC)

9 - What is wrong with "added content"in relation to his contribution to that article? Also, where is the anachronistic error? the "2019" repetition is a basic mistake that anyone can make, if that is what you are referring to.

10 - It makes zero sense to give a page that is still in his draft space as an example...so, I won't even bother analysing whatever is in this.

11 - I see a problem with the change of "70" to "65"...but then again, both figures are not supported by any references on the article anyway.

this one visible to admins - has been explained by him in this same discussion over and over. Now that you bring up the link, his explanation concerning that birthdate actually makes sense.

12 - eerrrm....looks like an honest mistake.

here - Even though the first reference doesn't state the three names, other sources cited in that same article do. Like this one. So, he hasn't added a wrong information.

Like I said earlier, I see too much of bad faith in your handling of this case. None of these "examples" are actually problematic enough to warrant a block. 1. The content added to Sarah Imovbioh is not supported by the cited sources. I don't really doubt it's true, but it's still unsourced content added to a BLP.
2. Andrey Sopin wasn't born in the USSR because the USSR didn't exist any more when he was born. By the way, WP:BLP holds for drafts, too, and Haylad routinely moves his own drafts to mainspace when he thinks they're ready, without going through the review process.
3. Guess who added the other unsourced figure. Even if that had already been in the page, added by someone else, changing one piece of unsourced information into some other piece of unsourced information is still inappropriate.
4. The Dremo example is relevant because quite a bit of personal information is added, with a source - that doesn't actually confirm it.
5. The Arjen Robben example is trivial in itself, but it's also symptomatic of Haylad's rather random approach to capitalization. Even if the sentence structure had been improved, there would have been a capitalization error - made in an edit that was supposed to fix grammar. That was only one of several edits that I found that introduced similar capitalization errors.
6. No reference cited in the article calls Gabe Vincent "Gabe Vincent Nnamdi". There is one calling him "Nnamdi Gabe Vincent" and one going for "Gabe Nnamdi Vincent". Making "Nnamdi" his last name seems to be Haylad's invention (or it is based, yet again, on sources that he didn't bother to cite).

Finally, I didn't "handle the case". I have asked questions and given opinions. I didn't review the unblock request. I have cleaned up some examples of problematic content added or edited by Haylad, and I might do some more of that. Huon (talk) 10:41, 8 September 2019 (UTC)

I find it just a bit ironic that you think we’re the ones assuming bad faith when you’ve accused us all of being part of a revenge project from the admin cartel because the user dared to challenge the wrong decision of your admin friend/boss and won? for someone we’ve never interacted with. Speaking personally, I have no clue what you’re even talking about, nor any idea who my “friend/boss” is, and I can say with some degree of confidence that everyone here is probably just as confused about what conspiracy we’re accused of being a part of as I am.

To your larger point: no, we block indefinitely and without warning for creating advertising. The fact that the content was one that had been republished by multiple socks doesn’t help the case here, and the specific behaviour surrounding Dremo is pretty compelling that it was being written with the intent to advertise and get around Wikipedia policies. In circumstances such as that, an indefinite block is more than appropriate. This is before we even get to the other issues Huon has discussed. Okay, I've now looked at this further. The Dremo case is still concerning: the page history there is... confusing to say the least, but from what I can make out (and correct me because the number of moves make the exact timeline difficult) Haylad created an article around salting, and change the title at least once. This was a few months ago, but the SPI connection to other accounts for that article suggest that there's an organized campaign, or at least motivation to get the page in here, which combined with the getting around salting thing looks really bad. That being said, this could also just be a competence thing with BLPs, with Dremo being an unfortunate overlap of bad content created in good faith with malicious content created by other people. I'm not really sure which.

I will say again, I do not think there is socking involved here, but I would not rule out freelance work or some other COI. That being said, if another admin disagrees based on a future unblock appeal, I'd not fight anyone unblocking. I'm just not going to do it myself. TonyBallioni (talk) 19:57, 8 September 2019 (UTC)

AfroCine: Join the Months of African Cinema this October!

After a successful first iteration of the “Months of African Cinema” last year, we are happy to announce that it will be happening again this year, starting from October 1! In the 2018 edition of the contest, about 600 Wikipedia articles were created in at least 8 languages. There were also contributions to Wikidata and Wikimedia commons, which brought the total number of wikimedia pages created during the contest to over 1,000.

The AfroCine Project welcomes you to October, the first out of the two months which have been dedicated to creating and improving content that centre around the cinema of Africa, the Caribbean, and the diaspora. The subject in question is a professional female African basketball player who has represented her Country in multiple instances, including the prestigious AfroBasket Women, the highest African basketball tournament for women. Are you implying that she lacks notability because she is not featured in mainstream American media?

It's important to note that the article contains numerous references from FIBA, the highest basketball authority globally. FIBA sets the guidelines for basketball rules, transcending American media influence. Additionally, I sense a skewed representation of sports notability, particularly a bias against African sporting professionals, especially basketball players. This is evident in the exclusion of players in Africa from the criteria outlined in WP:NBASKETBALL or WP:NCOLLATH. Also, there is a FIBA Africa Women's Basketball League, and I intend to write about the teams and players involved. However, adhering to the constraints of WP:NBASKETBALL or WP:NCOLLATH poses challenges. I will gather an additional reference for the article and republish it. Meanwhile, I've identified other articles about female basketball players that may also require more sources to establish notability. You can decide whether to move them to draft status and potentially reduce coverage of women athletes on Wikipedia. The choice is yours. The articles are Raven Johnson, Sarah Ogoke, Dulcy Fankam Mendjiadeu, Alexandra Green (basketball), Mercy Wanyama, Tamara Seda, Cristina Matiquite, Bintou Diémé and Ify Ibekwe. I have created close to 50 African biographies and have draftified/deleted tons of articles on white, American or European subjects. Your accusations are laughably absurd, so I'll quickly move on. BLPs require strong independent sourcing which address the subject directly and indepth. It is generally agreed upon that sports governing bodies are not independent of the athletes that compete under their jurisdiction. The Punch has three sentences directly addressing Okoro, which is not at all in-depth. Flash Agency is not independent and Sports Village Square mentions her once. Regardless of her race or nationality, the sources currently in the article do not come close to meeting WP:GNG.
