Managing a conflict of interest edit

  Hello, Saonmedia. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the page Michael Wavves, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the COI guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your COI when discussing affected articles (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. pseudonym Jake Brockman talk 08:22, 28 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

Welcome to Wikipedia. Because we have a policy against usernames which give the impression that the account represents a group, organization or website, I have blocked this account; please take a moment to create a new account with a username that represents only yourself as an individual and which complies with our username policy or request a change of username.

You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and be aware that promotional editing is not acceptable regardless of the username you choose. Additionally, If you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for your contributions to Wikipedia, you must disclose who is paying you to edit.

If your username does not represent a group, organization or website, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page.

You may simply create a new account, but you may prefer to change your username to one that complies with our username policy, so that your past contributions are associated with your new username. If you would prefer to change your username, you may appeal this username block by adding the text

{{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}

at the bottom of your talk page. Please note that you may only request a name that is not already in use, so please check here for a listing of already taken names.

 Thank you. Alexf(talk) 09:04, 28 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

Accept reason:

I have renamed your account from Saonmedia. I am in complete agreement with Alexf; I am too skeptical on this, but I will give you a chance to prove yourself. As such, I will lift the block. Be advised that your edits will be monitored by other editors, including Alexf and myself. I would suggest that one of the first things you do should be to make the formal declarations required by WP:PAID and WP:COI, on your user page. I will inform you that should you make edits that cross the COI line, you may be reblocked. I do not mean this as a threat, simply as a notification. 331dot (talk) 23:45, 28 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

Commercial editing edit

Saonmedia, thanks for your rename request which an administrator will review. Further to my notice, could you kindly outline how you intend to contribute to Wikipedia and how you are going to address the conflict of interest with your business? Many thanks! pseudonym Jake Brockman talk 11:56, 28 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

Contribution edit

I have a niche for the music industry, therefore, most of my contributions will be new artists, record labels, & producers who are noteworthy for inclusion in Wikipedia. I would like to also edit more pages. Moreover, I understand the issue with conflict of interest, however, my articles and/or edits are from a neutral point of view & not written for promotional or marketing use.

Please review WP:COI and WP:PAID and explain how you will contribute consistent with these policies. 331dot (talk) 12:21, 28 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

I reviewed WP:COI & WP:PAID. I understand that writing for clients can be considered a conflict of interest & can cause abuse & incoherency in Wikipedia articles. I also understand if one is being paid to edit, that one has to disclose who is paying them & the relationship in question.

My continued contributions will be parallel with these guidelines to avoid conflict of interest & abuse of Wikipedia inclusion & to avoid using it as a tool for promotional & covert advertising. Saonmedia (talk) 14:21, 28 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

Your answer here is essentially "I've read the policies and will follow them", but you don't describe specifically how you will do that(I am referring to how you would contribute about your clients, not how you will make the formal declarations you will need to). I'll point out edit requests and Articles for Creation, which is generally how COI editors will need to contribute. Please indicate that you are familiar with these processes. For further comment, simply click "edit" next to the section header or at the top of this page, instead of clicking "new section" which will introduce a section header with every comment you make. 331dot (talk) 16:44, 28 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

I understand that if there is a contribution by me for a said client that a controversial change on request for edit will need to be made via {{request edit}}. I also understand that if I am creating an article for a client that the article will need to have {{connected contributor}} to let the editors aware of the COI.

In order to contribute on the behalf of my clients, I will adhere these certain processes to follow when making requests.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Saonmedia (talkcontribs)

Edit requests is the correct way for someone with a COI to edit existing articles, but to create new articles you should use Articles for Creation. Is that acceptable to you? 331dot (talk) 20:11, 28 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
Many in the marketing field think that they can easily contribute to Wikipedia, but find it very difficult to divorce their profession from their Wikipedia contributions, even while claiming they can edit "non-promotionally". That's most of the reason for these questions. Be certain that you can do this; the vast majority of those in your profession can't. Also be clear that you must declare every client that is paying you to edit and (if different) who is paying you. It isn't my intention to give you the third degree, but I (and all administrators, if not all users) have a duty to protect the nature of this project. 331dot (talk) 20:52, 28 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

Yes, that is acceptable but regarding edit for typos & misspelled words do I have to do an edit request?

You would be permitted to make the types of edits described at WP:COIADVICE(which includes correcting typos). Alexf, I know you only soft blocked this, but what do you think? 331dot (talk) 21:21, 28 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
@331dot: The reason for a soft-block was solely that the name was an organization but the very few edits they had, although promotional, did not mention the name of the company. I debated on this issue and gave them the benefit of the doubt. After reading this I am less comfortable now as they clearly intend to write on their business sector, and their clients. As I did make it a softblock, I would say go ahead an unblock, with the caveat that I will watchlist for a while and make sure there is no promotion going on and the rules of COI and PAID are adhered to. Sorry to be strict here but I am not comfortable with the intent of the user at this point. The onus is on them to prove me wrong in the next few weeks while I have it watchlisted. To the user: no personal intent here, just following the rules. After such a block you are being watched by many users. When in doubt, always user Articles for Creation and if you have any questions about how Wikipedia works, the place to ask is at the Tea House. -- Alexf(talk) 23:20, 28 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

Ok, thanks for the clarification.

File permission problem with File:Ray Sadeghi & Jon Baburchak.png edit

Thanks for uploading File:Ray Sadeghi & Jon Baburchak.png. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F11 of the criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Whpq (talk) 23:56, 8 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

File copyright problem with File:Ray Sadeghi & Jon Baburchak.png edit

Thank you for uploading File:Ray Sadeghi & Jon Baburchak.png. However, it is currently missing information on its copyright and licensing status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can verify that it has an acceptable license status and a verifiable source. Please add this information by editing the image description page. You may refer to the image use policy to learn what files you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. The page on copyright tags may help you to find the correct tag to use for your file. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please also check any other files you may have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Whpq (talk) 23:56, 8 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

Swa Playmaker moved to draftspace edit

An article you recently created, Swa Playmaker, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Concern regarding Draft:Swa Playmaker edit

  Hello, Gwalkerone. This is a bot-delivered message letting you know that Draft:Swa Playmaker, a page you created, has not been edited in at least 5 months. Drafts that have not been edited for six months may be deleted, so if you wish to retain the page, please edit it again or request that it be moved to your userspace.

Speedy deletion nomination of Hakki Akdeniz edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Hakki Akdeniz, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. CUPIDICAE💕 16:53, 19 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

Not sure why this page was speedy deleted. Page was created years ago, someone else must have added something here recently to cause the deletion, please advise. Gwalkerone (talk) 02:42, 20 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
Hello, Gwalkerone,
If you have a question about a page deletion, it's best to ask the administrator who deleted the page. For general questions about editing on Wikipedia or its deletion policies, please bring them to the Teahouse...this is where experienced editors can address your concerns. Liz Read! Talk! 04:26, 20 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
Also, you can often ask the deleting administrator to restore an article to User space or Draft space where you can continue to work on the article and address the problems with it. It is more likely that an admin will restore an article that has been deleted through Speedy Deletion to Draft or User space than directly back into the main space of the project. Good luck!
