Welcome to Wikipedia!!! edit

Hello Gruesome Gary! Welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. If you decide that you need help, check out Wikipedia:Where to ask a question, ask me on my talk page, or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Please remember to sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. Finally, Please do your best to always fill in the summary field. This is considered an important guideline in Wikipedia. Even a short summary is better than no summary. An edit summary is even more important if you delete any text; otherwise, people may think you're being sneaky or even vandalizing. Below are some recommended guidelines to facilitate your involvement. Happy Editing! -- Kukini 21:36, 25 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

You are now a Reviewer edit

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 05:06, 16 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Great work! edit

  The Running Man Barnstar
For the great work you have been doing in expanding many articles about football in Kosovo, I award you this barnstar. Keep up the great work! FkpCascais (talk) 23:10, 19 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

Thanks edit

I have been adding interviews to football players pages. I noticed Stuart van Doten already had links to interviews. Unfortunately, I noticed this because most (even well known ones) footballers have no interviews on their page so keep up the good work (even if you did add it in 2017). Thanks, User:Das osmnezz

Links to DAB pages, and Interwiki links edit

Good work creating/expanding articles about places in BiH. Two tips:

  1. Per WP:INTDABLINK, hatnote links to DAB pages must go through the (disambiguation) qualifier, as e.g. in my edit to Blatnica, Čitluk. If they don't, they get logged as errors.
  2. Don't forget to add the Interwiki link; I added it to Čehari. If it isn't there, Wikidata will automatically create a separate record within a day or so, making navigation between languages difficult.

Replacement of "clubplayerscat" template edit

Hi there. You have been replacing the "clubplayerscat" without explanatory edit summaries. Examples: ASC Biesheim, US Torcy. Could you please explain why? Kind regards, Robby.is.on (talk) 15:37, 12 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hi, I changed it due to the alphabetic sorting: couldn't find ASC Bieshiem under the B which would be much more logic (in my opinion at least). Would be happy to hear if there is another way to do this. Gruesome Gary (talk) 18:14, 12 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the explanation, that makes sense. I think I'll bring this up at Template talk:Clubplayerscat. Robby.is.on (talk) 10:43, 13 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Wikidata interlanguage links edit

Hey Gruesome Gary. I was exploring which of 6700+ Croatian settlements we have here on enwiki (found 2900 so far) and I noticed that you'd been creating new articles on Croatian villages recently (thanks!), some of which did not have interlanguage link added on Wikidata; example: Kakinac. I don't know what the policy here is (@Joy?), but I think those should always be added. How many new Cro. articles have you created, you know - is this something we can fix manually? Ponor (talk) 21:28, 15 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

I know there's a bot that's automatically generating new wikidata items, but I'm not sure if there's anything that maps existing entries. User:AlexNewArtBot/CroatiaSearchResult contains lists of recently added articles and its history presumably includes everything (because the patterns there should easily match for settlements). --Joy (talk) 16:29, 16 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, @Joy. It was quit an exercise, but I added the missing interlanguage links in ~130 articles. Gary, if you plan on adding more articles, maybe we can work together... it'd help to have a clean list of their titles (somewhere). Ping me please! Ponor (talk) 19:11, 17 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
Hi Ponor, I only just started updating and creating these Croatian settlement articles based on the Croatian census of 2021. I must admit I am not very familiar with these type of links, so please advise how to move forward. Thanks! Gruesome Gary (talk) 08:43, 18 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
Sorry for the delay, GG, I just saw your reply. This is probably the most boring job, but someone has to do it. On hrwiki every (serious) new user is instructed to add those links, and this is the first time that I see enwiki articles missing them. Depending on your wiki shell, either on the left or in the Tools menu below the title you should see an Edit interlanguage links link; in the dialog, enter hrwiki in the first field, then search for the proper Croatian title in the second. When you click "Link with page" another dialog will show all the languages (with clickable links) and ask for confirmation. It that's not working, the same links can be added at Wikidata (follow Wikidata item in one of the menus here).
Are you doing all this manually? I am working on a (ro)bot that will do all the population updates (in infoboxes at least, article text is tricky), so maybe you should only create those new articles, and go through the others (if you had such plans) when I'm done. I'm ready to start, but it will take some time for my bot to be approved.
@Joy and I were thinking of using something like <ref>{{Croatian Census 2021|S}}</ref> for the 2021 population references (still working on the template)... feel free to join! It will make any future link updates much easier (sadly, Cro statistics bureau never cared about keeping http links permanent). Ponor (talk) 22:42, 20 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, all manually. I am not a techie and/or very good at those thing, so just editing :-). I'll look into the linking thing, thanks. Gruesome Gary (talk) 10:09, 3 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

"sports links" template edit

Hi there. Please could you re-consider using the "sports links" template in External links sections? In many cases, this results in too many external links. At Rade Bogdanović, we ended up with 11 external links which is excessive. Even in cases where the the use of the template initially results in an acceptable amount of links, it's problematic because as more database profiles get added to the Wikidata item this will reflect in the article and we could end up with far more later on. Kind regards, Robby.is.on (talk) 20:46, 31 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hmm, was not aware of that. Thanks. You suggest to only use it if it gives a very limited amount of links or just not at all? Gruesome Gary (talk) 09:35, 1 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
You're welcome. I wouldn't use it at all. Robby.is.on (talk) 10:11, 1 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
