Hello, ForsythiaJo. Thank you for your work on Bare Facts of 1926. User:Onel5969, while examining this page as a part of our page curation process, had the following comments:

Nice job on the article. Here's a suggestion, when you have a cast list, simply put a parenthetical not below the header, saying something like, "cast list as per Broadway World, and put the single footnote there. If you have to add someone not in that cast list, (like the 3 in your list), you can add a second footnote.

Tagging pages for speedy deletion edit

Hello, ForsythiaJo,

Speedy deletion criteria that start with "A" are only valid for main space articles. You have been using them on articles in Draft space. I recommend using Twinkle to tag articles for deletion, it will automatically limit the possible deletion criteria to those that are valid for the namespace the page is in. Also, if you set your Twinkle Preferences to "Notify page creator", will post a notification on the talk page of the article creator, an important step in the deletion process. But it also wouldn't hurt for you to review Criteria for Speedy deletion so you are more familiar with the different criteria and which namespaces they apply to. Thank you. Liz Read! Categories of statues by state edit

I know you mean well, but please don't make categories for such topics if they don't contain four or more entries, some say five or more. Am not sure about the guideline though. 50 state categories with many containing only one or two entrants serves to hide all the statues behind category spread, and it seems much easier to read, research, and appreciate Wikipedia's collection when they were contained in one category. In July 2015 around 15.5% of the English Wikipedia's biographies were about women. As of July 2023, 19.61% of the English Wikipedia's biographies are about women. Disability categories by occupation and nationality edit

Thanks for your work with making some additional categories within disability! I think it would be helpful if you added wikiprojects to each of them (like this one Category:American activists with disabilities. Also, I'd love your help moving folks into the new subcategories.

I don't think that we need to split up every category by occupation, unless that country category and occupation categories are both particularly large. Otherwise, I worry that we might be overcategorizing. So it might be useful to think through which occupations are crowded. Mason (talk) 20:54, 20 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hey so I'm following up -- because I noticed that you're creating a lot of categories that intersect with disability. I'm worried that you're going to run afowl of WP:PEOPLECAT, WP:CATEGRS, WP:CATLGBT with categories like: Category:LGBT people with disabilities.
> Categories which intersect a job, role, or activity with a disability or medical/psychological condition should only be created if the intersection of those characteristics is relevant to the topic and discussed as a group in reliable sources.
I don't mean to discourage you from working on categories, but do take a look at these policies and guidelines. @Dodger67, can you chime in in case I'm misunderstanding the policies and how they intersect with disability?Mason (talk) 22:25, 20 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
Hi there,
My thought was that the intersection between LGBT identities and disability is important (both socially and in terms of academic research), and may be something users want to search for. At the moment, I don't think we need to break down that category further into "lesbian writers with disabilities", "bisexual actors with disabilities", "LGBT people with [insert specific disorder here]" and so on, but I think one overarching category with a few major subsections (ie, transgender ppl or deaf LGBT ppl) would fit with other existing categories/category trees and with what users might be interesting in seeing.
As for the other categories, I was doing my best to look specifically for those nationalities which had a substantial number of ppl in the category, as removing those people into a subsection makes it easier to find the say, one Chilean writer, who might be lost amongst the fifty American writers.
Let me know if I'm on the wrong track here or if there's anything else I can/should do better/differently! :)
(And thank you for the wikiprojects tip for the categories) ForsythiaJo (talk) 03:43, 21 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for laying out your thinking! I agree with you in principle that they're interesting for social and academic research. I'm just not sure that it's the intent of WP:PEOPLECAT. I posted the category for discussion because I wasn't sure about the intersection.
  • One idea would be to first work on a wikipedia page as I think that would make a clearer case for the category, and be extremely interesting for readers. (I believe that there's a category called Category:Disability and sexuality... ahh there's actually a page on this! )
  • Another would be to focus on finding folks who should be in the categories but aren't. I've noticed that a lot of people are either in the OCCUPATION with disabilities or NATIONALITY with disabilities, but not both. So focusing our energies there could be pretty fruitful, and give us a better sense of which occupations+nationality categories could benefit from further slicing.
Regardless, I am thrilled that someone else is interested in disability categories!! 😁 Mason (talk) 04:07, 21 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

The Ark of Return edit

Hello ForsythiaJo. I really like your article The Ark of Return and your full descriptions of this artwork. Problem is, there was already an article United Nations Slavery Memorial about the topic, although I don't think it contains the name and fuller description of the sculpture as yours does. I'm not suggesting a course of action here, just alerting you about the other page so you can read it and then reply. I'm going to italicize your page as it seems to be the name of the artwork. Thanks for writing it, I haven't visited the sculpture but it sounds like an interesting experience. Randy Kryn (talk) 12:33, 30 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for bringing this to my attention! I think it would definitely make sense to merge them in some way, although I have no idea under which title. ForsythiaJo (talk) 13:51, 30 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
I like your descriptors and presentation, although the pages both seem to have proper names. The sculpture itself is the focus of your page, which works well. Let's call sculpture editor Another Believer into this for advice. Randy Kryn (talk) 14:03, 30 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
Always happy to see coverage of public art in Wikipedia. I've been bold and proposed merging The Ark of Return into United Nations Slavery Memorial, which is the older article, so editors can discuss. We can always move the page to the preferred title, my goal is just to combine the two pages into one. Thanks, ForsythiaJo! I invite all to contribute to the merge discussion. ---Another Believer (Talk) 14:10, 30 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Anita Bobasso edit

I am LGBT member. there is an editor who wants to remove the Anita biography at all costs because the one who created it complained and he did not like it. It is a biography of a singer of typical Argentine "tango" songs, very famous in the last century and that can be verified in the dozens of links in the bio, despite the fact that at that time there was no press like there is now... without Yet she had it. Just 3 years ago ( after died 25 years ago) people is still taking about her! this is the link to an article published in 2020 mentioning the "star Anita Bobasso"...[1] Please help me so that it is not deleted, I am very old and I have been to Anita shows in Argentina, and I don't know how to avoid it from deletion. very thankful Ragazzodeitalia (talk) 12:59, 5 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Although I was initially sympathetic to this page, as I know how it feels to have a page you created be proposed for deletion, the aggression and hounding of the user who proposed the deletion is unacceptable. I will be stepping back from editing the page unless/until the deletion proposal is resolved or serious apologies are made. I sincerely ask that the article author take a step back and reconsider their approach to disagreements on Wikipedia. ForsythiaJo (talk) 00:14, 6 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
ForsythiaJo, I swear it's totally the opposite! I was very nice to him, instead he is aggressive with me and sends me messages to my personal email. Note that on his page he talks about his stress that clearly shows an emotional problem. I have no problem apologizing. I am a very nice person of integrity. I'm really sorry about this situation. but he doesn't understand that in Anita's case we are talking about a person from the 19th century when the press was very scarce and there were no mass media like now, that's why I insist that they read the archives because there is a lot. In the case of Jorge Perez Evelyn, (he changed his name just because it occurred to him), when the actor is called "Jorge Perez Evelyn" and is the first Argentine transvestite to become famous and be persecuted by the military dictatorship . A person who has suffered a lot. But I read that they are doing a series about his life on one of the big platforms. Please, understand me. I speak 4 languages and I can read things that other people may not. but do not doubt about my person, as I told you I am very upright and respectful of others. thank you so much Ragazzodeitalia (talk) 20:09, 6 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Your draft on: Brian E Kinsella edit

Hi ForsythiaJo, thank you so much for your help on setting up a template on my very first article. I’m new here, so I didn’t know how to make a template for the basic information (born, etc.). However, you removed a lot of pieces that I was trying to add in this bio. I’m trying to research and write biographies about people I think are undervalued or overlooked, who have done (in my opinion) remarkable things in their lives. It’s to try to spread some positive energy in our society. Is there a way I can do that, without it being considered: “Promotional”? I have checked all my references on this, and read the articles, to ensure I’m factual. Also, I thought adding Brian Kinsella’s entire career in a flow that was easy to read made sense. But you removed most of his career bullets. Is that considered promotional in a bio, or can I add that back in? I am very new here, so I am still learning, so I really appreciated your help on the template. Simply couldn’t figure that out. All the best Mwikiforce (talk) 11:12, 5 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi Mwikiforce! First of all I'd like to thank you for reaching out so kindly and with an open mind. My advice would be to try and stick as closely to presenting the facts of your subject as possible - which in the case of Kinsella, should not be an issue, as it seems he has indeed been doing a lot, and his work seems to have been reported on in reliable sources!
We want readers to be able to understand a subject's important without telling them - ie, show don't tell. In an article, that means trying to avoid saying things like "a notable figure" or "a significant role", and describe how this person is notable/significant instead - "X person was the first to do..." or "Y was the head manager of Z project..." are fact based (and can thus be cited/double checked) and describe how the person is important.
For example, one of the sentences I removed was "This is merely one of the many impactful initiatives Kinsella initiates and engages in, whenever help is needed". "Merely", "impactful", and "whenever help is needed" are all being used here to make Kinsella seem important, without explaining how he actually is. That is also a sentence which we have no way of fact checking, which is also of utmost importance here on Wikipedia.
As to the formatting question, I think including Kinsella's career in brief in your article lede is fine, but I'd suggest writing it out in text rather than as bullet points, ie "Kinsella served in the US army from [date] to [date], and was stationed in... In [date], he began working on Wall Street...".
Let me know if you have any other questions, either in general or on specific edits I made, or if you'd like any other input on your draft. Welcome to Wikipedia! ForsythiaJo (talk) 17:42, 5 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
Hi ForsythiaJo,
Thank you so much for the swift response. That is really nice of you to spend all this time on helping me. I SO appreciate it. What you said, all made sense to me, I will absolutely try to make it more "encyclopedic" :-) (I guess I was just too excited about my first attempt to write bio :-). Is it ok for me to change the order though? I'd like to put the newest thing first (Afghanistan).
Also, despite you've provided me all this useful and helpful information, I have meanwhile run into another issue. A bot has removed all the images, claiming it's a copyright issue. But while I was researching this, I reached out to Brian E. Kinsella, and he was so kind to send me the images (of himself). But I don't have any tags or anything, and I'm a little worried about reaching out again and ask him for that. Do you have any ideas of what I can do about this?
Thank you again, and thank you for the warm welcome and your time!
I will try harder!
Best,

Your level of contributions simply outstanding, as you have been the first steps for this page since the creation of it! (You have been contributing since February 20, 2023, almost a year ago!) Also, thanks so much for creating this article about him! I have edited the page on National Coalition of Black Lesbians and Gays, but I couldn't really create an article on ABilly, being rather biased. Paulmlieberman (talk) 15:41, 3 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

Just from reading the sources, he sounded like such an interesting and passionate person, and it's incredible how much work he did in terms of organizing! If I find more sources on his work I'd love to add more detail to the page.
Sorry again for your loss. I hope you and the other people he knew find solace in their good memories of ABilly. <3 ForsythiaJo (talk) 16:45, 3 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

Can you help me improve an article to contest a deletion? edit

Hi Forsythia,

Recently I made the article Fentanyl Crisis in San Francisco and I saw you made some pretty major edits to it. Someone today has requested it be deleted. I think this is wrong and so I want some help. First, the crisis is not covered at all on the main San Francisco article and I think that it would make the article too cluttered to mention it there, so that's why I think this independent article is important. What I'm thinking about doing is maybe moving to "Opioid Crisis in San Francisco" and linking more to California Opioid Crisis.

Alexysun (talk) 00:14, 16 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi there,
So I can understand why the original poster proposed a deletion, as currently the article is pretty barebones. That said, when I first edited the article and checked for news coverage, there does seem to be quite a lot of coverage, especially in terms of political reactions/proposed political action. I'd suggest looking to that to start beefing up the article, as well as potentially expanding on the public health implications.
I think moving the article to the broader "Opioid Crisis in San Francisco" is also a good idea, as that is more likely to hold up to a notability claim simply by its broader nature. If worst comes to worst, the information from the current article could be added to the California Opioid Crisis article.
I will look into seeing if I can beef up the article myself, but I will admit I am very unfamiliar with California politics, and some of the sources are behind paywalls for me. ForsythiaJo (talk) 02:43, 16 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
Update - I have added some refs to the article, and some additional sections w/ info. I've also added some links to potentially useful articles on the talk page, which might be helpful to expand the discussion of background and political reactions.
And again, I do support your proposal to move the article to focus on the opioid epidemic in general, as many of the articles seem to focus on the idea of drug policy, harm reduction, etc in general terms, rather than fentanyl-specific policies or programs. ForsythiaJo (talk) 03:21, 16 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thank so so much for improving the article! I will make more of the updates that you suggested! Alexysun (talk) 17:29, 16 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
