Video interview

Thank you very much Edwardx.

Will it be on April 14th?

Best Regards

Paulo — Preceding unsigned comment added by PD428 (talkcontribs) 21:26, 6 April 2015 (UTC)

Thanks. 14 April is now in my diary. We can do an interview before or after - what do you prefer? Edwardx (talk) 10:40, 7 April 2015 (UTC)

I was asking if you will be on campus on the April 14th? If so, before it would be perfect. Best Paulo A. — Preceding unsigned comment added by PD428 (talkcontribs) 09:26, 9 April 2015 (UTC)

Yes, before the session on 14 April would be fine. How much time do you need? 30 minutes? Edwardx (talk) 13:16, 9 April 2015 (UTC)

Great. However I received an email from Stefan saying that on April 14th will be just tutorials. 15 minutes its perfect. Should we meet in the Grove Atrium at 12:00? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 158.94.71.159 (talk) 13:53, 9 April 2015 (UTC)

Hello Edwardx, See you tomorrow at 12:00 in the Grove Atrium? Best Paulo A.

Yes, 12 noon is fine. See you then. Edwardx (talk) 08:37, 21 April 2015 (UTC)

Bulgari Hotel and Residences in Knightsbridge

Hi. Are you able to find out much about the history of the Bulgari Hotel and Residences in Knightsbridge please? I may start a stub, but it would be good to work on it with a few people. Btw, you've got mail.Zigzig20s (talk) 18:37, 17 April 2015 (UTC)

Can't really help, I'm afraid. And you've got mail too! Edwardx (talk) 19:17, 17 April 2015 (UTC)
Oh. I thought you would find it interesting...Zigzig20s (talk) 19:20, 17 April 2015 (UTC)
Alas, almost everything is interesting... Edwardx (talk) 19:25, 17 April 2015 (UTC)
The most expensive hotel in London! I have not been there (yet), although I have "raged" at the Savoy...Zigzig20s (talk) 19:39, 17 April 2015 (UTC)
Perhaps I will be able to tempt you with The Knightsbridge Apartments, owned by a Hong Kong billionaire...Zigzig20s (talk) 01:35, 18 April 2015 (UTC)
Ah, the "b" word. You do know who to draw me in... Edwardx (talk) 08:35, 21 April 2015 (UTC)
Yes, shamelessly so. Are you able to find much about 10 Lancelot Place, designed by Zeidler Partnership Architects and completed in 2008 please? I think it should have its own page as well, but I would like to find a bit more. I have no doubt some billionaires and heirs live there!Zigzig20s (talk) 12:23, 21 April 2015 (UTC)

Fuganto Widjaja

Fuganto Widjaja is a billionaire according to this if you want it. Philafrenzy (talk) 10:44, 21 April 2015 (UTC)

Thanks. Started... Edwardx (talk) 15:21, 22 April 2015 (UTC)

Eyal Ofer, again

I re-inserted some referenced info about his birthplace, nationality and residences which was deleted by another editor...This is annoying.Zigzig20s (talk) 15:08, 23 April 2015 (UTC)

Agreed, but at least someone is reading your work! Edwardx (talk) 12:36, 24 April 2015 (UTC)

Greek shipping magnates

Marcos Lemos and Lemos family if you or ZigZig are interested. Philafrenzy (talk) 14:24, 23 April 2015 (UTC)

Will try to find time. Maybe later this evening... Edwardx (talk) 12:39, 24 April 2015 (UTC)
Started Costas Lemos. Edwardx (talk) 11:13, 25 April 2015 (UTC)

You're right.

Linking citizenships isn't standard. I thought it may have been, because I've seen it around here. Not sure which is more standard, but none of the bios I clicked from that article do it.

I think it makes sense, just for letting readers better know where someone lives, but I don't have any policy behind me, and should have chosen my words better. Thanks for the reality check! InedibleHulk (talk) 01:47, 21 April 2015 (UTC)

This is an interesting and quite widespread issue, and one that arises from a misunderstanding of the role of linking on Wikipedia.
Using the piped link American is not uncommon in biographies. However, you will almost never find it in biographies of major figures. The underlying logic is that there are very few people who don't know that an American is someone from the United States. So a rollover could benefit very few readers. And it is extremely unlikely that anyone would ever click on such a link.
WP:OVERLINKING states, "the following are not usually linked: ... the names of major geographic features and locations; languages; religions; and common occupations ... Do not create links in order to highlight or draw attention to certain words or ideas in an article. Links should be used to help clarify the meaning of linked words, not to place emphasis on the words."
I hope that helps! Edwardx (talk) 08:24, 21 April 2015 (UTC)
On the other hand, it says we generally should link "relevant connections to the subject of another article that will help readers understand the article more fully". Almost everyone knows what the United States is, in broad terms (large landmass, exports a ton of TV, contains Americans). But there's likely a lot in the article that even hardcore patriots don't know offhand.
Relevant and can help readers understand Americans better, but also a major geographic feature. So we're left to choose which carries more weight. If I ran this zoo, I'd consider that the entire country isn't quite as relevant to an actor as the state or town, but the ability for curious readers (however few) to click it outweighs the harm in it being blue.
But no, I don't run Wikipedia, and your interpretation is fine, too. InedibleHulk (talk) 20:14, 22 April 2015 (UTC)
Your argument might appear to have some appeal, but on closer analysis it is not sustainable. If you follow it through logically, then you could make the same argument for linking almost every other common word or phrase in an article on the grounds that there will be something in those articles that many/most of us are not familiar with. And we should aim to be consistent, rather then trying to argue for some sort of exceptionalism for American. Edwardx (talk) 11:21, 25 April 2015 (UTC)

Barnstar

Thank you. It is unfortunate that the Daily Mail article has this negative title, but there is quite a lot of content between the lines. He sounds like a very gifted businessman, though he could do with better PR. There might be some info in Israeli newspapers about his philanthropy--I am not sure--I haven't found much about his family background so far (for example, when did his family move to Israel?). I should add that one of the investors who sued him was jailed in the US apparently, but I haven't been able to find any newspaper articles about it. Generally speaking, I am extremely interested in the business aspect of the gambling industry. I have noticed that there are many small gambling establishments with slot machines, etc., all over London, and I would like to find out who owns them. For example, Cashino?Zigzig20s (talk) 15:01, 22 April 2015 (UTC)

It is an interesting sector. There is a lot of money in gambling, just not for the punters. As he's based in London now, we should see him on next month's STRL. "Cashino is a really exciting place to play slot machines". About Cashino Edwardx (talk) 15:31, 22 April 2015 (UTC)
Started Cashino, Praesepe and Gauselmann. Our coverage of business is often very weak. Edwardx (talk) 15:48, 22 April 2015 (UTC)
Thanks. I wonder if Cashino will be merged--it depends on how much we can find. Would you please consider taking a picture of a Cashino shop for Wikimedia Commons? Btw, I was not invited! Not huge.Zigzig20s (talk) 16:20, 22 April 2015 (UTC)
Cashino is part of Praesepe, which is part of Gauselmann. Great minds... Also had a look for Cashino on Commons, found nothing and though, "must take a photo". There's a Cashino not far from my local Waitrose, so will do that very soon. Edwardx (talk) 16:28, 22 April 2015 (UTC)
Oops, "merged" as in merged into another WP article! Yes, it is possible, but more info and a photo should help. Edwardx (talk) 16:32, 22 April 2015 (UTC)
I've started Quicksilver, like Cashino, a chain of "adult gaming centres". Yes, I feel another article coming on. I'll do some photos today/tomorrow. And started another London private equity firm, Hutton Collins. Edwardx (talk) 11:24, 25 April 2015 (UTC)

Philippe Pastor

Just created Philippe Pastor. I think if we expand it, this could be a good DYK.Zigzig20s (talk) 12:28, 24 April 2015 (UTC)

Are you sure he's notable enough as an artist? He should qualify for a WP page as a billionaire anyway. Edwardx (talk) 12:37, 24 April 2015 (UTC)
I am not sure if he is a billionaire. Yes, he represents Monaco at the Expo 2015 for example.Zigzig20s (talk) 12:41, 24 April 2015 (UTC)
Okay. His father was worth $5.4 when he died, so he should be a billionaire, but we would need a source. Will this do? - Monaco Murders Reveal Six Hidden Real Estate Billionaires Edwardx (talk) 12:48, 24 April 2015 (UTC)
"The properties owned by this branch of the family are valued at $5.4 billion, according to data compiled by Bloomberg, giving each of the four Pastor siblings, Philippe, Marie-Helene, Jean-Victor, 46, and Patrice, 41, a $1 billion fortune based on their reserved share." I guess so. But I kind of feel like his family is irrelevant. You probably disagree, but I really like his paintings and I wish I could make the trip to Milan. I'm getting bored with London. Speaking of which (segue!), shouldn't there be two separate article for Holland Park: the park, and the neighbourhood?Zigzig20s (talk) 13:00, 24 April 2015 (UTC)
Just created Le Formentor. The Urugyan embassy might be there too (saw a google hit but not a good source). Jean-Victor and Patrice could probably have their own pages too...Zigzig20s (talk) 16:59, 24 April 2015 (UTC)
I've added a bit to Philippe. All four siblings are billionaires according to Bloomberg, so they should all have articles. Yes, there should be a separate article for the London district. Once upon a time it was my local park. It's still my favourite. Edwardx (talk) 10:42, 25 April 2015 (UTC)
As long as they have achieved something. But it looks like they have.Zigzig20s (talk) 14:57, 25 April 2015 (UTC)

Rich list

I assume you are awaiting the new Rich List with eagerness. If you go to Leicester Square you can buy it this evening. Philafrenzy (talk) 18:07, 25 April 2015 (UTC)

Or wait until tomorrow morning, saving time and tube fare, stroll over to Waitrose and get it for free. Guess which option I'll choose. Edwardx (talk) 18:33, 25 April 2015 (UTC)
The new STRL is eagerly awaited, but I'm sure I'll find plenty else to edit in anticipation... Edwardx (talk) 19:33, 25 April 2015 (UTC)
Get an extra one as an investment. The 1990s editions are worth £25-35 on eBay. Philafrenzy (talk) 20:27, 25 April 2015 (UTC)
Interesting. It would be most amusing if you could sell enough copies of the STRL to make it on to the Rich List itself. Edwardx (talk) 20:35, 25 April 2015 (UTC)
You mean like Rupert Murdoch? Philafrenzy (talk) 20:40, 25 April 2015 (UTC)

Costas Lemos

Could we split Lemos family into several articles about specific individuals, and then wikilink the family page or get it deleted? I don't really like those "family pages", as they are too vague.Zigzig20s (talk) 15:02, 25 April 2015 (UTC)

Agree, create pages about each one (assuming they are notable) and turn it into a disambig page? Philafrenzy (talk) 15:53, 25 April 2015 (UTC)
Michael Lemos added from 2014 STRL, and Category:Lemos family. Edwardx (talk) 19:43, 25 April 2015 (UTC)
And now his father, Constantinos Lemos. I'm yet to unravel the full family tree. Edwardx (talk) 19:52, 25 April 2015 (UTC)
Turned out Constantinos Lemos was the same person as Costas Lemos. Oops. Edwardx (talk) 19:59, 25 April 2015 (UTC)
Created Leon Patitsas, grandson of Captain Leon C. Lemos. Edwardx (talk) 00:24, 26 April 2015 (UTC)

Your feedback is welcome

Hey, your feedback is welcome here: Talk:Michael Kors (brand), whether the brand should have its own article, separate from the designer. Tinton5 (talk) 22:50, 27 April 2015 (UTC)

Commented there. Edwardx (talk) 09:02, 28 April 2015 (UTC)

Chelsea Fire Station

Is apparently one of only three fire stations in the U.K. with their own article. (unless you count the ones that are now restaurants, in which case it is four) Philafrenzy (talk) 10:59, 26 April 2015 (UTC)

I now count eight in that category, having just added the five fire station articles (one now a restaurant, as you know) that I've started in recent years! Nonetheless, there must be plenty more that merit articles. Alas, I've just returned with the new STRL, so they'll have to wait. Edwardx (talk) 12:15, 26 April 2015 (UTC)
I had forgotten your interest in fire stations that don't take paying diners. Philafrenzy (talk) 12:24, 26 April 2015 (UTC)
Can you please update the Rich List? Gareth E Kegg (talk) 12:11, 26 April 2015 (UTC)
Very funny. I can't wait for the next crash - new billionaires are emerging faster than I can create the articles for them. Edwardx (talk) 12:15, 26 April 2015 (UTC)
Did you know that Mills & Boon romance novels now feature handsome billionaires rather than millionaires. I wonder when that transition happened? There could be a strange article in it. Philafrenzy (talk) 12:47, 26 April 2015 (UTC)
News to me. How about Billionaires in popular culture ? Edwardx (talk) 13:00, 26 April 2015 (UTC)
We already have billionaire as I am sure you know. It would need to be sourced to sociological type material. Bottom line, if you can disambig it and source it, you can write it! Philafrenzy (talk) 13:03, 26 April 2015 (UTC)
The billionaire article is quite short, so that would need to be expanded first, added to and eventually split off. With the new STRL, I have enough to keep me busy, thank you. Edwardx (talk) 13:06, 26 April 2015 (UTC)
You are not linking billionaire! Shock horror! Philafrenzy (talk) 13:07, 26 April 2015 (UTC)
Don't you start too. I only linked it above for your convenience. We all know that I'm right - see User_talk:Edwardx#You.27re_right. Edwardx (talk) 13:16, 26 April 2015 (UTC)
I was only messing around, but if you assert that someone is notable because they are a billionaire it should be linked in fact because a lot of people (me included) then think "well exactly how much is that?" A billion whats? Is that the European billion or the American billion. (Aren't they different?) I think you should be linking it. Philafrenzy (talk) 13:23, 26 April 2015 (UTC)
My reply was meant to be jokey too, which just shows how fragile written humour can be. I'm fairly sure that everyone uses the "American billion" (1000 million) nowadays, rather than the European billion (million million). I'm still broadly against linking it, but I do sometimes in infoboxes, so maybe I should in the lede instead. More food for thought. Edwardx (talk) 17:00, 26 April 2015 (UTC)
I am not at all sure that everyone has adopted the same use or is even aware that there is more than one. I couldn't have told you which way round it was for instance. Agreed, we shouldn't link artist or lawyer etc but billionaire is a naturally ambiguous word. The more I think about it the more convinced I am that it is a natural click through for the reader and not over-linking at all. Philafrenzy (talk) 17:07, 26 April 2015 (UTC)
Harold Wilson pledged Britain to the American definition of a billion back in 1974. Thank you Mr Prime Minister counting man. Gareth E Kegg (talk) 22:07, 26 April 2015 (UTC)
Well he didn't inform me. Philafrenzy (talk) 22:11, 26 April 2015 (UTC)
Well done, you've persuaded me! Incidentally, another editor rightly pointed out to me that even if lawyer should not be linked, solicitor should, as it is largely just a UK term. Edwardx (talk) 17:12, 26 April 2015 (UTC)
Thank you, can we rename this section "Philafrenzy was right"? I am of the opinion that even London is linkable in the right article. Philafrenzy (talk) 18:14, 26 April 2015 (UTC)
A trillion is 1000 billion. Something that grows at 10% PA doubles every 7 1/4 years. Bill Gates is worth $79 billion so it will be some time before we have a trillionaire. Philafrenzy (talk) 22:30, 26 April 2015 (UTC)
And Gates will have to stop giving away his money. Edwardx (talk) 09:06, 27 April 2015 (UTC)
According to Nigerian pastors, the more you give away, the more you get. If they are right then Gates will continue to get richer. Philafrenzy (talk) 09:29, 27 April 2015 (UTC)
All five have articles, and now have "net worth" added to their infoboxes. Edwardx (talk) 12:25, 27 April 2015 (UTC)
Cool, how long until one is a billionaire? There is money in this god business you know. Philafrenzy (talk) 12:36, 27 April 2015 (UTC)
Prosperity theology is a featured article, so even the gods of Wikipedia favour it. One day, I might get on to the millionaires, but there are just so many new billionaires these days. Wait until the Great Crash of 2016... Edwardx (talk) 18:01, 27 April 2015 (UTC)
One "prosperity theologian", Creflo Dollar (real name appparently) wants his followers to raise $60million for a new private jet. Edwardx (talk) 18:05, 27 April 2015 (UTC)
Where do rich men, camels and eyes of needles come into all this? Philafrenzy (talk) 20:55, 27 April 2015 (UTC)
I would be surprised if private jets are proscribed in the Bible. Plus the higher you fly, the closer you get to heaven? Edwardx (talk) 22:08, 27 April 2015 (UTC)
Or the Soho version: "The higher the heels, the closer to God."Zigzig20s (talk) 22:11, 27 April 2015 (UTC)
On the Great Crash of 2016, the Sunday Times notes that Britain's super-rich have "doubled their wealth since economic crisis". The really wealthy use crashes as an opportunity to buy assets cheaply. Nathan Mayer Rothschild said "buy when there’s blood in the streets", supposedly adding, "even if the blood is your own". Philafrenzy (talk) 08:21, 28 April 2015 (UTC)
Although I'm far from wealthy, I'm looking forward to the Great Crash. In anticipation, did you know that gold sovereigns are a CGT-exempt investment? Edwardx (talk) 08:53, 28 April 2015 (UTC)
Yes I did, also VAT free I think. This because they are currency equivalents and you can't tax them in that way. It doesn't necessarily make them a good investment. Government gilts are also exempt for similar reasons. Philafrenzy (talk) 09:08, 28 April 2015 (UTC)
For VAT it depends on the type: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/vat-notice-70121a-investment-gold-coins Philafrenzy (talk) 09:09, 28 April 2015 (UTC)
Thanks. The last para of 2.4 is interesting and somewhat counterintuitive. I am neither advocating nor am I qualified to offer any investment advice! And I only have one gold coin. Maybe its because I'm watching Max to the max. Edwardx (talk) 09:32, 28 April 2015 (UTC)
2.4 makes sense. I think they are saying that although exceptionally some particular examples of a coin type may price at more or less than 180% of the open market value of the gold therein, their status as "investment coins" or otherwise will still be determined by the status generally of that particular coin type. i.e. they ignore the occasional exception. Philafrenzy (talk) 10:06, 28 April 2015 (UTC)
Here's a good example of how the tax system is judicious about what is taxable and what isn't: gambling winnings are exempt because if they taxed the winnings they would then have to give loss relief to the losers which is almost everyone. The profits of running a gambling business, however, are taxable because the bookie always wins. Philafrenzy (talk) 09:25, 28 April 2015 (UTC)
That does make sense. Edwardx (talk) 09:32, 28 April 2015 (UTC)
It's similar with share trading - stockbroking is taxable as a trade because brokers normally make money, but individual trading is not normally recognised as a trade because most small scale speculators make a loss, though you can get taxed on your gains under CGT and relief for your losses against your gains but not relief for your losses against your general income - I trust that is all crystal clear. Philafrenzy (talk) 09:50, 28 April 2015 (UTC)

STRL

Got it. The article about Camilla Sainsbury's daughter sounds like a parody; surely they must be ironic. I am wondering if Emily Appelson-Blavatnik should have a page. She's donated to Steve Israel. She maybe worked in the film industry and in TV. Are you able to find more? I'm surprised she is no uber-philanthropist!Zigzig20s (talk) 07:22, 26 April 2015 (UTC)

Just "bought" mine - thank you Waitrose. Should keep us busy for a while. She only donated $2600. From a £13.2 billion fortune, that's not even a rounding error. Sorry, but I can't see how she is notable independently of her husband. Edwardx (talk) 12:05, 26 April 2015 (UTC)
There must be more. Now, Adrian Swire is interesting. I have started working on the Swire family, but haven't been able to figure out the whole family tree yet. See John Swire. I recently created John Samuel Swire and John Anthony Swire. There should also be Barnaby Swire. They own the Swire Group (I think John Swire & Sons must be a subsidiary). It is headquartered in Westminster, but I am not sure if the building has a "Swire" sign at the top. If it does, it would be good to take a picture. This is a bit of work, but very relevant to our city.Zigzig20s (talk) 16:34, 26 April 2015 (UTC)
Good work. I thought about Barnaby Swire too. Definitely needs an article. Some companies like to keep a low profile. I've started a few more articles, but will focus mainly on the billionaires. Edwardx (talk) 16:49, 26 April 2015 (UTC)
Not the Chairman.Zigzig20s (talk) 17:17, 26 April 2015 (UTC)
Well, if you want to help me with the Swires, that would be good. Are you able to find out who Adrian's parents are/were?Zigzig20s (talk) 17:19, 26 April 2015 (UTC)
There is also Merlin Swire and Samuel Compton Swire on the Cathay Pacific Board.Zigzig20s (talk) 17:26, 26 April 2015 (UTC)
His father was John Kidston Swire. I can see a LOT of new article here! Edwardx (talk) 17:30, 26 April 2015 (UTC)
Yes, me too. Once we are done with them, Nathan Kirsh really needs a clean-up. I'm not convinced he was born in South Africa. I already deleted an unreferenced paragraph of so-called "controversies"...but let's stick to the Swires for now. You know Hugo Swire is a family member and Tory MP, don't you?Zigzig20s (talk) 17:34, 26 April 2015 (UTC)
The new STRL could keep us busy for months... Edwardx (talk) 18:03, 26 April 2015 (UTC)
Yes. Btw, last night I created Izak Parviz Nazarian, another billionaire with an interesting life story. I would like to get Nazarian family deleted as it is too vague, and instead create a few pages about notable members of that family.Zigzig20s (talk) 18:58, 26 April 2015 (UTC)
Interesting chap. J-Post calls him a billionaire, but I can find nothing on Forbes. Edwardx (talk) 09:08, 27 April 2015 (UTC)
Like the Marses, they are often listed as a family. By the way, once I have created individual pages and a Category:Nazarian family, what should I do with the very vague and useless Nazarian family? Speedy delete or wikilink to the patriarch?Zigzig20s (talk) 17:48, 27 April 2015 (UTC)
If it was me, I'd just leave it. You can only easily do a redirect if you move all or most of the information elsewhere. By the way, I've just created Category:Fleming family, full of intersting and varied people. Edwardx (talk) 17:53, 27 April 2015 (UTC)
Yes, the information is going to the appropriate individuals. It needs to get deleted or redirected.Zigzig20s (talk) 19:21, 27 April 2015 (UTC)
I wish you would help with the Nazarians. I would then help with the Flemings.Zigzig20s (talk) 19:42, 27 April 2015 (UTC)
Maybe, but the Nazarians aren't really rich enough! Edwardx (talk) 09:03, 28 April 2015 (UTC)
They meet your 'b' requirement.Zigzig20s (talk) 14:26, 28 April 2015 (UTC)
Only one does, but he's not even on the Forbes list. I'll try to find time! Edwardx (talk) 14:38, 28 April 2015 (UTC)
No, it's because they are often listed as a family. Most wealthy families are tribal. Money becomes irrelevant at a certain level anyway. When you have more time, you could also try to improve Nasser Khalili--his page is too long for me to in-line everything.Zigzig20s (talk) 16:17, 28 April 2015 (UTC)
You've got mail!Zigzig20s (talk) 19:15, 28 April 2015 (UTC)
For once, that was easy. Edwardx (talk) 19:20, 28 April 2015 (UTC)

Estates

Here are some links to maps of the great London estates.

Philafrenzy (talk) 10:39, 29 April 2015 (UTC)

More work to do! Edwardx (talk) 19:17, 29 April 2015 (UTC)

Michelin?

Are you able find the estimated wealth of the Michelin family please? I created the deceased heir, which you must have seen if you stalk my contributions.Zigzig20s (talk) 22:50, 30 April 2015 (UTC)

François Michelin? Not bad, but still some way from that elusive third star! I stalk talkpages, but almost never contributions, which I generally only check to see if there are WP:SPA issues with someone's edits. I'll see if I can find anything. I've added all the "missing" GBP billionaires in the STRL, back to Forbes now. Edwardx (talk) 23:23, 30 April 2015 (UTC)
That was quick. Philafrenzy (talk) 23:27, 30 April 2015 (UTC)
The UK "only" has 117 sterling billionaires (less if Red Ed wins), and I'd already done articles on some in recent months. I'll probably continue down the STRL adding the mere US$ billionaires. >£650 million takes us down another 60 places. Edwardx (talk) 23:38, 30 April 2015 (UTC)
I just had a flick through and the ones at the bottom don't seem very rich at all. The idea seems to be company profits of £4m = net worth £40m? Philafrenzy (talk) 23:42, 30 April 2015 (UTC)
Yes, the rich are taxed far too heavily. Looks to me like you need £100m to make the top 1,000. For the stock market, a P/E ratio of 10 is traditionally seen as roughly average. These days, big companies mostly do share buybacks with cheap QE money to boost/distort the PE and yield numbers. Or so Max tells me. Edwardx (talk) 23:57, 30 April 2015 (UTC)
Aren't the small ones mostly unquoted companies who can't therefore do a share buyback? Philafrenzy (talk) 00:03, 1 May 2015 (UTC)
You said big companies. Philafrenzy (talk) 00:14, 1 May 2015 (UTC)
I was drifting off-topic. The P/E ratio of 10 still holds good for small companies. Edwardx (talk) 00:22, 1 May 2015 (UTC)
Maybe, could be a lot more or less https://www.knowledge.hsbc.co.uk/tools-and-resources/article/valuing-a-business Philafrenzy (talk) 00:30, 1 May 2015 (UTC)
True. I think the 10 thing is only a very rough starting point, and there are many factors, as the HSBC article indicates. Edwardx (talk) 22:47, 1 May 2015 (UTC)

Btw, Nichola Pease is listed as a billionaire with her husband on the STRL. I am not sure what the marriage laws are in the UK. In California, it's 10 years.Zigzig20s (talk) 21:20, 1 May 2015 (UTC)
If I nominate him, I'll have to do a QPQ review, and I don't much enjoy those! I will look into Badger/Mars. You're right about Pease, so I've added the STRL stuff to her article too and added her to the billionaires category. If the STRL or Forbes lists them jointly, they are both billionaires. I would imagine that in most/all such cases, the women merit articles as much as the men do. Edwardx (talk) 22:45, 1 May 2015 (UTC)

St Josephs College and Ahmed Fahour

Ahmed was added as alumni to St Josephs College, Melbourne but on his own page it says he attended St Josephs College, North Fitzroy. It appears there is an error here somewhere. What is the reference for him having attended St Josephs Melbourne please.(````) Henry — Preceding unsigned comment added by Henry Sowerberry (talkcontribs) 02:09, 5 May 2015 (UTC)

There appears to be several establishments called "St Joseph's College" in the Melbourne area. "St Joseph's (North Fitzroy)" appears at St_Joseph's_College,_Melbourne#Associated_schools, but I can't find an article for St Joseph's (North Fitzroy). Any ideas? Edwardx (talk) 12:22, 6 May 2015 (UTC)

I wouldn't think there would be an article on St Joes North Fitzroy as it was amalgamated and became part of Samaritan College which later closed. Yes there are a number of schools named St Josephs - particularly primary schools. There is however only one named St Joseph's College Melbourne. Note I have not used a comma after the word College as this was its actual title at the time it closed. The article title for it was changed by an admin who didn't know any better and wouldn't listen to my explanation even though I worked there for 30 years.Henry Sowerberry (talk) 06:20, 9 May 2015 (UTC)

Very sorry, but I've no real interest in the minutiae of the Melbourne education system. If you want to remove Ahmed Fahour from that category, please go ahead. Edwardx (talk) 09:58, 9 May 2015 (UTC)

That's a bit negative. The 'under construction' tag is there for a reason... Not sure I will go to Mayfair today--there are so many tourists everywhere, it took me an hour to walk to Waitrose to get the scallops I wanted for lunch...I hope this won't get worse and worse as the summer gets closer. Christoph Hald, Bavarian organic beer

Have you had Christoph Hald, a Bavarian organic beer? I am not sure if it/he could have a page.Zigzig20s (talk) 14:14, 14 May 2015 (UTC)

Not much of a lager drinker, so probably not. However, there are an awful lot of beers about. Individual beers are a tough one for notability, but brewers are often okay. It appears to be brewed by Härtsfelder Familienbrauerei, which might pass muster. Have you checked German WP? Edwardx (talk) 20:28, 14 May 2015 (UTC)

Help with Aubrey McClendon?

Hi EdwardX, I noticed your username on the list of participants in the Living People workgroup at WikiProject Biography and see that you've worked on quite a few biographical articles, so I'm hoping you might be interested in helping out on an article I'm working on. I'm proposing some improvements to the article for Aubrey McClendon, an Oklahoma businessman, and I'm looking for editors to review my suggestions.

Up front, I'd like to let you know that I'm working as a paid consultant to Mr. McClendon, so I will not be making any edits and instead hoping to discuss changes on the Talk page due to my conflict of interest. An editor has already reviewed my draft for the article and was largely positive, although they did have concerns about one section. Unfortunately, they've been offline for a few weeks now, so I'm hoping that others can review it, too. If you're able to, it would be much appreciated if you can take a look and share any feedback. Thanks, 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 16:01, 13 May 2015 (UTC)

I don't think proposing a wholly new version of the article is the right approach. Better to propose small specific piecemeal changes. See Talk:David M. Cote (Honeywell CEO) for a debate of this very issue. Edwardx (talk) 20:32, 14 May 2015 (UTC)

DYK YEAH

@Zigzig20s: and @Philafrenzy: I created an article on Picasso's epic and brilliant series of paintings ahead of Version O's New York City One Night Only Mega Sale tonight. I expect it shall be bought tonight by a secretive billionaire collector (or not), so we could DYK it in time. I know what you're all thinking, yes, I have put in a bid for a $5 coaster of the painting that the gift shop was selling, and I've immediately sent it to the Luxembourg Freeport, and I swear I never touched it or let it arrive upon British shores. Gareth E Kegg (talk) 20:58, 11 May 2015 (UTC)

Yes, I saw that on the Christie's website a few days ago, but it's in NYC. For what it's worth, Rupert Hambro apparently became friends with Picasso when he was a student in France... Btw, I might attend this auction next week, and I would certainly welcome suggestions about article creations on relevant furniture designers, etc.Zigzig20s (talk) 21:29, 11 May 2015 (UTC)
Luxembourg is so pre-election, everyone is using Andorra now. Philafrenzy (talk) 21:32, 11 May 2015 (UTC)
With Concorde no longer an aoption, I couldn't spare the time to attend in person, so have added something about Versions H and N instead. Might find more. Edwardx (talk) 21:34, 11 May 2015 (UTC)
Je t'adore Andorra. It's where my adorable study of Dora Maar is stored. Isn't tax a bore? Gareth E Kegg (talk) 21:37, 11 May 2015 (UTC)
Editing Wikipedia is much more fun. Leona Helmsley would agree with you. Edwardx (talk) 21:42, 11 May 2015 (UTC)
Never read the Helmsley detail before - fascinating stuff. Philafrenzy (talk) 22:28, 11 May 2015 (UTC)
Then you should enjoy Hetty Green#Miser and Hetty Green#Later life "Green became an ardent philatelist and assembled one of the finest private stamp collections in the world ... In her old age she developed a bad hernia, but refused to have an operation because it cost $150" Edwardx (talk) 22:48, 11 May 2015 (UTC)
I can recommend Jemmy Wood at whose funeral there was much jollity. Philafrenzy (talk) 22:56, 11 May 2015 (UTC)
Ironic that all those images of Wood on his page show him putting HIS HAND IN HIS POCKET. P.S. That painting has just sold. Shall I file it under Category:Missing objects? Gareth E Kegg (talk) 23:53, 11 May 2015 (UTC)
I think they are probably all derived from one original and so statistically invalid as a sample. Stunning price on the painting. I look forward to delivery shortly. You can put it down as "private collection". Philafrenzy (talk) 00:21, 12 May 2015 (UTC)
Surprised no one bothered starting L'Homme au doigt. Edwardx (talk) 10:11, 12 May 2015 (UTC)
It's cheap rubbish, only worth $141m unlike the $179m of the other one. Philafrenzy (talk) 10:21, 12 May 2015 (UTC)
And there are SEVEN of them! Edwardx (talk) 10:32, 12 May 2015 (UTC)
They are quite similar - a mix of fact and mythology. Wood encouraged people to think he was mean as part of his image. Hetty may have done the same thing. Her children didn't hate her it seems. Helmsley seems genuinely nasty.
And some jollity here in reading the article. Yes, Helmsley seems to be all true! Edwardx (talk) 23:12, 11 May 2015 (UTC)

Possibly the first time Gareth and Saddam have ever been mentioned together. Henrietta Moraes (Bacon and Freud model/muse) is buried next to my brother in Brompton Cemetery. Documenting the notable burials there is one of the first things that drew me in to WP's net. Edwardx (talk) 10:51, 19 May 2015 (UTC)
Gareth and Saddam go way back, didn't you know? I have folders full of pictures of gravestones begging to be researched. Philafrenzy (talk) 10:54, 19 May 2015 (UTC)
Thanks to my efforts, I believe that Category:Burials at Brompton Cemetery is the largest such in London. Why not "adopt a cemetery"? Edwardx (talk) 10:57, 19 May 2015 (UTC)
Thank you for your efforts. It's a good idea, makes a change from adopting a Panda. On television they say your Panda will write to you with regular updates but they never do. I haven't heard from my Panda once despite all the bamboo I have posted to China. Philafrenzy (talk) 11:07, 19 May 2015 (UTC)
I'm not surprised. They only eat fresh bamboo. Notoriously picky eaters. There is an open day at Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park (never been) on Saturday 6 June, and one at Kensal Green Cemetery probably on Saturday 4 July. Been to the Kensal Green one some years ago - a great day out. more info Edwardx (talk) 11:40, 19 May 2015 (UTC)

The recent CEO articles

Well decided to see if I can find DOB's and stuff and for example-Harry Stine (businessman) is listed as 73 but no DOB-but I did put a estimate for yob as that is easy to figure out now given that it says 73 years old. But yeah might want to look around for these. Anyway good luck! Wgolf (talk) 01:44, 24 May 2015 (UTC)

Thanks. Took me a few minutes to find it, but there is a template, {{Age as of date}}. See Template:Age as of date for more. Have given Harry Stine (businessman) an infobox and added that template - looks better. Edwardx (talk) 09:55, 24 May 2015 (UTC)
