Reliance of the Traveller edit

Hi Dayirmiter, I just wanted to let you know that I have removed the detailed content list you added to Reliance of the Traveller because it's far to long and detailed for an encyclopedic article. I am sorry about this, I'm sure it took a while to do. You're welcome to try and write a brief summary of the different sections but it would need to be in prose, not just a list. minor edits edit

User:Dayirmiter: thank you for your edits but please reserve the "minor edit" flag for truly uncontroversial edits. Regards CapnZapp (talk) 22:43, 23 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

By implication, I gather that you felt the edit was not uncontroversial? If so, I am happy to discuss - or just to understand in what way you might think it so. I'm interested to know. I honestly am somewhat surprised but willing to learn from your perspective. Thanks for your interest. Dayirmiter (talk) 23:28, 23 July 2018 (UTC)Reply
Please mark as minor only edits that are truly trivial and uncontroversial... and non-complex. Edits where you immediately understand nothing changed. Edits that really should escape the notice of others. In contrast, I had to concentrate for minutes to double-check you hadn't accidentally made an editing error that changed the meaning of the text. That is not a minor edit. That said, I hope you understand I do not contest your edit or accuse you of any real wrongdoing in any way. In fact I thank you for improving Wikipedia. Have a nice day CapnZapp (talk) 09:22, 24 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

Edit on Michelstaedter edit

I will not disagree with you that text referring to Michelstaedter's illness was incomprehensible. However, it is an important detail that I did indeed provide a source for, and it is from the most official sources, that of Sergio Campailia, who discovered Michelstaedter's works and ever since has been a curator of them all. This was discovered only recently and thus all information on it is only in Italian http://espresso.repubblica.it/plus/articoli/2016/11/08/news/michelstaedter-la-mobilitazione-per-salvare-la-soffitta-del-filosofo-1.287541

Correction in a page edit

Sir, In the citizen amendment act, it is mentioned that India was a secular constitution in 1950, which is wrong, India become secular under late Prime Minister of India, Indra Gandhi, in 1976. Please correct the needful as it just spreads misinformation and people believe whatever Wikipedia spreads. Sarafkunal2409 (talk) 19:35, 17 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

Sarafkunal2409: If you can provide a source for your assertion, I would be happy to help correct the article. Thanks for your input. Dayirmiter (talk) 19:45, 17 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
User:Sarafkunal2409: I have learned that the first sentence of the 1950 constitution declares India, among other things, a secular republic. See the document here. Dayirmiter (talk) 10:04, 18 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

Sir I would request you to read the 42nd amendment of constitution which was the only amendment which sought to modify preamble of Indian constitution after which the words secular and socialist were added to preamble. Sarafkunal2409 (talk) 10:14, 18 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

User:Sarafkunal2409: I see that you are quite correct. The 1976 Forty-second amendment did substitute 'for the words "SOVEREIGN DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC" the words "SOVEREIGN SOCIALIST SECULAR DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC"'. I am willing to fix the statement in question - which on inspection I've found has other problems as well - but I'm curious why you would not do it yourself. Is that something you would care to tell me? Dayirmiter (talk) 06:59, 19 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

OED notes one of the meaning of whitewashing as a deliberate attempt to conceal unpleasant or incriminating facts about a person or organization in order to protect their reputation. Your removal of the massive criticism of the act (and derivatives thereof) from the article lead, under some flimsy pretexts fit the definition. WBGconverse 08:22, 19 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

An automated process has detected that when you recently edited 1996 California Proposition 209, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page California Proposition 16. Discretionary sanctions topic area changes edit

In a process that began last year with WP:DS2021, the Arbitration Committee is evaluating Discretionary Sanctions (DS) in order to improve it. A larger package of reforms is slated for sometime this year. From the work done so far, it became clear a number of areas may no longer need DS or that some DS areas may be overly broad.

The topics proposed for revocation are:

  • Senkaku islands
  • Waldorf education
  • Ancient Egyptian race controversy
  • Scientology
  • Landmark worldwide

The topics proposed for a rewording of what is covered under DS are:

  • India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan
  • Armenia/Azerbaijan

Additionally any Article probation topics not already revoked are proposed for revocation.

Community feedback is invited and welcome at Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Motions. --Barkeep49 (talk) 04:36, 28 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

Please do not collapse citations edit

As for example you did this month on John Brown (abolitionist). When I am editing an article, it slows me down to find a chunk like this: citation|last=Filler|first=Louis|title=John Brown in Ohio. An Interview with Charles S. S. Griffing[...]

It is far more legible and easier for me to work with if it is left as (br added for proper display here):
citation
|last=Filler
|first=Louis
|title=John Brown in Ohio. An Interview with Charles S. S. Griffing[...]

On articles you work on frequently make them as you want them, but with aomething like this, that I work on frequently and you only rarely, I am asking you not to make my work more difficult. Thank you. deisenbe (talk) 17:11, 25 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

deisenbe: Sorry it's taken me a while to get back to you on this. It appears the "collapsed" format is a function of the Visual Editor. I can see how the separate-lines format might be preferable but I can't say I'm willing to switch into source mode and edit by hand in order to achieve it. Maybe the maintainers of the Visual Editor could help with this? Dayirmiter (talk) 15:13, 3 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
I never heard of the visual editor, or if I did I've forgotten. I edit almost everything by hand. I'd appreciate if you would take this up with whoever it should be taken up with as I'm pretty sure they don't want to hear from me. Thank you. deisenbe (talk) 15:44, 3 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
deisenbe: What do you mean in saying you edit "almost everything" by hand? How do you edit when you're not editing "by hand"? Obviously not wp:VisualEditor.
And why do you say "they don't want to hear from" you? I don't know who that would be, actually, but why wouldn't they want to hear from you as well as me or anybody else? Just curious. Dayirmiter (talk) 17:38, 3 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
Sometimes I use bots. Especially recover dead links one. I suggested you would be better because you use their product. I never once looked at wp:visualeditor, that I recall. Didn't know it existed. deisenbe (talk) 20:25, 3 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

User:Bookku: I have a couple of questions:
1. How did you pick me to receive the above request?
2. Do you edit using (a) VisualEditor only (b) wikitext editor only (c) both VisualEditor and wikitext editor?
Thanks. Dayirmiter (talk) 13:39, 4 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

@ Dayirmiter, thanks for seeking clarification.

1. In brief: I selected your ID to make request from recent changes thinking you were active doing copy edits to random articles.
Little longer explanation if you have further doubts: I work on many information gap areas mainly in humanities and women's rights/ issues. Usually I need two types of help one is for expansion and second one is for copy edit when article draft reasonably worked on. For expansion related help while seeking help usually I go two ways one of them is I look for significant contributors in history of similar article but most times this one is not useful since most of them are retired blocked etc though I try it religiously is very less useful practically (I do list articles on project talk pages too but many projects are not active enough or women's projects focus mainly on biographies so response for non biography articles remains less than expected). Second is 'related changes' from projects, or categories if some has made significant contribution. This category I request for copy edit also. But to find substantial contributor that too non IP from related changes is long drawn repeated attempts over many months. (Pl note even for expansion request I send even to those who may have different outlook than my own for sake of maintaining neutrality)
For already in main space copy edit request usually I make @ copy editor board.
But article and specially drafts still under development I have to find out copy edit help from those who have copy edited similar articles as I said earlier. (Also due to my limited hold on English I need copy editor support a little more than the native English language speakers). The second is few copy edit help requests like yours this time I send finding some experienced user, from recent changes, who is active with random article copy edit of the articles, this helps maintaining neutrality aspect from side. Since such users are already making copy edits to random article usually they mind less for such request. No doubt few among them seek clarification the way you are seeking. So in brief I selected your ID to make request from recent changes thinking you were active doing copy edits to random articles. (And also had a positive expectation due to your positive write up on your user page), May be I write down this detail explanation on my user page so I would not need to write every time afresh and less clutter for users like you.
Few users do not like such sudden request, if this has caused you any inconvenience then I would sincerely apologies.
2. Mostly 98 percent I use as you see as you edit VisualEditor only that I find more convenient for referencing and ease of editing . When I get totally stuck and browser does not co operate I open up Wiki code editor but usually I find it bit confusing one and I use it less.
'Last but not least; pl. do not feel I am targeting Pakistan only. Even before this one I have been working on Indian case Draft:1969 Rabindra Sarobar Stadium en masse sexual violence controversy It is moving slow because of very old and paywalled sources. And also do not feel I target developing world I equally note down gap areas and sources from developed world and work on them as I sources accumulate and I get time.

Please feel free to point out my mistakes, if any and or inputs. Wikipedia is collaborative project, help I always seek. Thanks and warm regards Bookku, 'Encyclopedias = expanding information & knowledge' (talk) 14:52, 4 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

Contentious topics procedure adopted edit

You are receiving this message because you are subscribed to updates on the Arbitration Committee's discretionary sanctions review process.

The Arbitration Committee has concluded the 2021-22 review of the contentious topics system (formerly known as discretionary sanctions), and its final decision is viewable at the revision process page. As part of the review process, the Arbitration Committee has resolved by motion that:

The above proposals that are supported by an absolute majority of unrecused active arbitrators are hereby enacted. The drafting arbitrators (CaptainEek, L235, and Wugapodes) are directed to take the actions necessary to bring the proposals enacted by this motion into effect, including by amending the procedures at WP:AC/P and WP:AC/DS. The authority granted to the drafting arbitrators by this motion expires one month after enactment.

The Arbitration Committee thanks all those who have participated in the 2021-22 discretionary sanctions review process and all who have helped bring it to a successful conclusion. This motion concludes the 2021-22 discretionary sanctions review process.

This motion initiates a one-month implementation period for the updates to the contentious topics system. The Arbitration Committee will announce when the initial implementation of the Committee's decision has concluded and the amendments made by the drafting arbitrators in accordance with the Committee's decision take effect. Any editors interested in the implementation process are invited to assist at the implementation talk page, and editors interested in updates may subscribe to the update list.

Introduction to contentious topics edit

You have recently edited a page related to gender-related disputes or controversies or people associated with them, a topic designated as contentious. This standard message is designed as an introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

  • adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
  • comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
  • follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
  • comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
  • refrain from gaming the system.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

You have recently made edits related to articles about living or recently deceased people, and edits relating to the subject (living or recently deceased) of such biographical articles. This is a standard message to inform you that articles about living or recently deceased people, and edits relating to the subject (living or recently deceased) of such biographical articles is a designated contentious topic. This message does not imply that there are any issues with your editing. For more information about the contentious topics system, please see Wikipedia:Contentious topics.
