Varieties of EnglishEdit

Please be aware of MOS:ENGVAR. It is wise before making changes in the national variety of English for an article to check the talk page to see if there is a template showing which variety has been chosen for the article. Jc3s5h (talk) 12:24, 1 July 2018 (UTC)

Non-existent categoriesEdit

Before adding a category to an article, as you did to International PEN centres, please make sure that the category page actually exists. In some cases, it may be appropriate to create a new category in accordance with Wikipedia's categorization guidelines, but it is usually better to use the most specific available existing category. It is never appropriate to leave a page categorised in a non-existent category, i.e. one whose link displays in red. You may find it helpful to use the gadget HotCat, which tests whether a category exists before saving a change. Thank you. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 20:02, 7 March 2019 (UTC)

Too many changesEdit

Please consider other editors when you make so many changes in a single edit, as you did at Drowning. Many of them are reasonable changes, some improvements, but others are simply wrong, such as changing lifeguards' to lifeguard's or spacing the {{spaces}} template. Some are preferences, such as using "that" to replace "which" in defining relative clauses, which are merely a US-GB variant. Sorry, but I've reverted your edit because it is simply too difficult to pick out the good from the bad. If you disagree, please feel free to explain your justifications at the talk page so that others can also offer opinions. --RexxS (talk) 00:41, 1 August 2019 (UTC)

September 2019Edit

Hello. In a recent edit to the page Pneumatic tube, you changed one or more words or styles from one national variety of English to another. Because Wikipedia has readers from all over the world, our policy is to respect national varieties of English in Wikipedia articles.

For a subject exclusively related to the United Kingdom (for example, a famous British person), use British English. For something related to the United States in the same way, use American English. For something related to another English-speaking country, such as Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, India, or Pakistan use the variety of English used there. For an international topic, use the form of English that the original author of the article used.

In view of that, please don't change articles from one version of English to another, even if you don't normally use the version in which the article is written. Respect other people's versions of English. They, in turn, should respect yours. Other general guidelines on how Wikipedia articles are written can be found in the Manual of Style. If you have any questions about this, you can ask me on my talk page or visit the help desk. Thank you. SpinningSpark 16:49, 4 September 2019 (UTC)

Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks!Edit

Hello,

Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at the English Wikipedia.

I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org, so we can invite you in!

From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.

If you have any questions, please let us know at google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org.

Thank you!

December 2019Edit

Hello, I'm Megaman en m. I noticed that you recently removed content from Suffix without adequately explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an accurate edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry; the removed content has been restored. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. I have readded the short description and the old lead from Suffix. Megaman en m (talk) 09:46, 17 December 2019 (UTC)

May 2020Edit

Please do not remove content or templates from pages on Wikipedia, as you did to English grammar, without giving a valid reason for the removal in the edit summary. Your content removal does not appear to be constructive and has been reverted. If you only meant to make a test edit, please use the sandbox for that. Thank you.
