Placeholders in articles

Hi - I've deleted otherwise empty sections from a number of articles that you have edited. Placeholders should be avoided, as they are unnecessary. If there is a requirement to notify other editors of proposed / impending changes, make a note in the associated talk page - Tiswas(t) 15:47, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

Image copyright problem with Image:OrlandoFL(Amtrak_Station).jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:OrlandoFL(Amtrak_Station).jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 08:08, 9 May 2007 (UTC)

Episode articles

Please read WP:EPISODE before creating any more episode articles. -- Ned Scott 06:58, 10 May 2007 (UTC)

Stop!

Stop edit warring with Betacommand bot now. The image in question is not used in an article as required by our policies for non-free content. The bot is smart enought to know better than to fall for your attempt to label it as a PD or GFDL image. --Gmaxwell 14:21, 10 May 2007 (UTC)

Image:Flooded New Orleans Neighborhoods.JPG Must stay!
If Betacommand were as smart as you assume it to be, it would recognize that the image was used in the talk page of an article, and the copyright tag used on it is appropriate. It would also recognize that it was uploaded for the purpose of diffusing any political bias, which is in line with the NPOV policies of Wikipedia. I attached the "Not Orphan" tag for additional protection, but that doesn't seem to phase this bot. ---- DanTD 14:32, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
Sorry, we simply do not allow non-free images outside of articles proper. I don't see the justification to use that copyrighted illustration in any case: surely we can obtain the underlying demographic data (census?) they used and produce our own illustration of the pre-disaster racial distribution of New Orleans. --Gmaxwell 14:39, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
The tag I used does point out that the copyright belongs to a newspaper, and I mentioned this fact in my description. Until somebody actully does create a similar map, I'd prefer that it stays. I had a similar problem in the past with a newspaper cutout of an interchange between the Long Island Expressway and Sagtikos State Parkway, and I still haven't seen any sign that anybody has been working on a replacement for it. ---- DanTD 14:49, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
Pointing out that it's a copy of someone elses work doesn't make it okay. We don't copy Britannica articles just because we don't yet have something else, nor should we copy this image. I understand that you'd prefer for it to stay, but that doesn't make it okay to keep it either. As far as a replacement goes, you're not powerless here: Go find some reliable data for this and I'd be glad to help you create a new image. --Gmaxwell 14:59, 10 May 2007 (UTC)

Almost Perfect (Even Stevens)

I don't see a valid fair use claim for this image. —— Eagle101Need help? 20:40, 11 May 2007 (UTC)

Right, but you need to justify why that image is ok to have in that article. You need to make sure the article actually uses the image (so its not just decoration), and you need to modify the fair use claim for your usage of the article. Please have a read over this and our fair use policy :) Cheers! —— Eagle101Need help? 20:55, 11 May 2007 (UTC)
Yep I did :), but that reasoning is no longer valid for your usage of it in a newly created article. Basically what you need to do is supply a reasoning of why that article needs that fair use image, and how it is acceptable to use it under fair use for that article. Plus the article must actually talk about something in the image... if its not being used for commentary, then its nothing but decoration :(. If you could fix this please do :D —— Eagle101Need help? 21:08, 11 May 2007 (UTC)
Sorry but you need to fix the fair use rational per our fair use policy. Please don't make me nominate the image to Images for deletion. (either that or remove the image from the article till such time that you have the time to put a proper rational. As far as I can tell right now there is no fair use rational or justification for use of that image in that article. If there is not one provided soon I'll have to remove the image. —— Eagle101Need help? 01:43, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

Incorrect tag

Please don't use {{Not orphan}} on non free images. Thanks. -- Nick t 01:46, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

LIRR station info

The material is great, but a reminder that you need to add the source you used to obtain the history for individual LIRR stations. I would be more than happy to show you how to format the details if you can describe the source you used. I would also suggest that year-only dates need not be linked, unless there is a strong reason to believe that readers would link to the articles, unlikely in this case. Thanks for all your work! Alansohn 06:05, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

I take it you saw my link, and I'm glad you like it. I have shown that source in the past when I write these details down, but I should probably do it more often. ---- DanTD 12:55, 13 May 2007 (UTC)
What is the source??? Alansohn 13:37, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Wantagh-SOB Interchange(MSBA).JPG)

Thanks for uploading Image:Wantagh-SOB Interchange(MSBA).JPG. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 00:31, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

those Images were orphaned, because of how you linked see what I did. Betacommand (talkcontribsBot) 00:45, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

I'm sorry but...

I have removed the following fair use images on the following articles for the following reasons:

Please do note that in every case the images are now once again orphans, but I did not tag them as such, I'll leave that up to the next time the bot runs (who knows when that is). If you fix the issues that I have mentioned above I do not mind if you restore the images, but please do not revert me and return things to the original state. If you have any questions about the objections that I have pointed out please do not hesitate to ask me on my talk page. I would suggest that you read our non-free policies and guidelines, and keep in mind that this project intends to become a free encyclopedia with as few burdens as possible on it:) I'd also like to thank you for your work with the various roads, none of those make any sense to me and I'm glad there are folks like you around who do understand it :).—— Eagle101Need help? 03:21, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

  • Err, actually please do not restore the image on Tania Gunadi, as that is an image of the actor, we can certainly get a free image of here. —— Eagle101Need help? 03:25, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

Err, yeah but thats not why I removed them, those images are not being used for critical commentary. If you use them for critical commentary I don't have a problem.

This image is a screenshot of a copyrighted television program or station ID. As such, the copyright for it is most likely owned by the company or corporation that produced it. It is believed that the use of a limited number of web-resolution screenshots for identification and critical commentary on the station ID or program and its contents on the English-language Wikipedia, hosted on servers in the United States by the non-profit Wikimedia Foundation, qualifies as fair use under United States copyright law. Any other uses of this image, on Wikipedia or elsewhere, might be copyright infringement. For more information, see Wikipedia:Non-free content.

To the uploader: please add a detailed fair use rationale for each use, as described on Wikipedia:Image description page, as well as the source of the work and copyright information.

I hope I'm making sense, but I don't see any critical commentary being done in any of those episode articles. (nor are those articles cited with reliable sources, but thats beside the point ;) ) Please read the reasons why I removed them, the only one that I said was replacable was Tania Gunadi. Cheers! —— Eagle101Need help? 15:25, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

Also on Image:Ren_and_Coach_Korns.jpg I do not see a specific rational of why that image is needed in that instance. (on that article). Cheers! —— Eagle101Need help? 15:26, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
Ok, put what you have typed to me on the talk page in the article, perhaps even caption the image if possible. You must have critical commentary and a rational for why your use if that image is needed in that article, and a specific justification for that. —— Eagle101Need help? 15:44, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
Ok, I see that you have added a rational to two of the images, but I still do not see a reasoning as to why its needed in those articles, nor for which articles your rational applies to. If you fix that, and use the image for critical commentary in the article itself I have no objections to you readding the image. Keep in mind critical commentary requires some text to be written about the image. —— Eagle101Need help? 16:03, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
... :S I have the feeling that that betacommands bot is constantly running, and happened to find that one as it was moved to a redirect. In any case, thanks for working on the articles, I am glad to help if you can give me some reliable sources, I might even be able to help you with the critical commentary. —— Eagle101Need help? 16:43, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
Replied on my talk page. —— Eagle101Need help? 16:53, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
No no no, the text needs cited in the articles! :) Use the sources you have on the page, and put some citatinos from them inline with the text, if you would like, link me to a couple pages of those sites that have to do with that episode, and I'll show you how to do it! —— Eagle101Need help? 17:01, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

Image:Ren and Coach Korns.jpg

I've tagged this image as {{fairusedisputed}} as I do not believe that its use complies with Wikipedia's fair use policy. In particular, the image is being used decoratively (as part of an infobox) rather being the subject of critical commentary in the article. Please add a detailed fair use rationale explaining why the article requires this image. One would expect to see a detailed discussion of the scene in question or of the iconic status of the image. Either should be supported by reliable sources. If you are unable to provide a full fair use justification for the image, it will be deleted. WjBscribe 16:56, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Maddie & London's Suite 16.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Maddie & London's Suite 16.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. Station infobox

Could you comment on your decision to use Template:Infobox Station on LIRR station articles at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject New York City Public Transportation#Template:Infobox Station? It's not that I necessarily disapprove of it, but its use and features need to be discussed there. Thanks. Tinlinkin 08:19, 16 May 2007 (UTC)

List of county routes in Suffolk County, New York

Are the "other roads" county-maintained? --NE2 15:22, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

They probably shouldn't be on a page listing county roads then. I suggest adding them to Suffolk County under a new "transportation" section, which can link to the county route and bus route lists and the LIRR branches. --NE2 15:48, 19 May 2007 (UTC)
It probably still shouldn't be on that article. --NE2 15:59, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

Hey...KP userbox

After the image was removed from the userbox, I replaced it with "KP" in green on a black background. Hope you like, but feel free to change to format however you like! =) Jumping cheese Cont@ct 10:32, 20 May 2007 (UTC)

It was no trouble at all and no, I haven't heard "Givin a Dog a Bone" off of AC/DC's album. If the score is influenced by AC/DC, then I'll just take your word for it. TrackFan 17:35, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
