A barnstar for you! edit

  The Tireless Contributor Barnstar
Thanks for your efforts expanding articles on women in science/academia, great work and very much needed! You might want to consider nominating some of your articles for Wikipedia:Did you know, this would allow them to appear on the front page and have increased visibility - you can do this here. Ivar the Boneful (talk) 16:23, 2 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
Aw, thanks! @Ivar the Boneful:. I will consider Wikipedia:Did you know as a way to increase visibility. Some of these women are remarkable.--DaffodilOcean (talk) 17:25, 2 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your efforts to rescue abandoned drafts! S0091 (talk) 19:42, 15 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

S0091 - Thanks for the recognition. I am enjoying going through these pages. There are plenty of notable people in there, with varying degrees of work needed to get the pages ready for the mainspace. DaffodilOcean (talk) 20:19, 15 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

You should consider becoming an AfC reviewer at some point so you can catch some of them before they are abandoned. I know having a COI is tricky but I know we have at least one other reviewer with a COI and as long as you do not accept your drafts, it is likely fine. Although, not all drafts are submitted which is worrisome. Also, you might want to reach out to DGG for some tips/tricks in finding drafts as he also trudges through abandoned drafts and has a focus on academics. Regardless, you do great work for Wikipedia. Thank you! edit

Hello, DaffodilOcean,

I just wanted to thank you for keeping an eye on expiring drafts. I do a lot of work with drafts that are edging towards the six month mark and I've noticed you delaying deletion on ones you think are promising. This is amazing to me as you often pay more attention to these drafts than the editors who created them one day and then abandoned them. It's hard enough to get editors to finish up their drafts much less expect other editors to spend time working on other people's drafts. But I can see from notices on your User talk page that some of these have found their way into main space which is awesome. Thanks for spending time working with promising drafts that would ordinarily just be deleted. It's appreciated! Liz Read! Talk! 03:00, 22 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

There are some interesting people in the set of expiring drafts, and I enjoy broadening my horizons by working on people I might otherwise not encounter.
On a practical note, I browse through SDZeroBot's reports to see what will be deleted soon. I keep my focus on women as my goal here is to increase the number of articles on women. If I miss someone you think has promise, feel free to send the details my way. DaffodilOcean (talk) 06:35, 23 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

I would LOVE to see this draft become a real article. MaynardClark (talk) 01:28, 17 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Are you interested in seeing the Grace Wyshak article go public? MaynardClark (talk) 01:53, 28 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
@MaynardClark - I am interested in this article, and I have some text to add (quite a bit actually), but we just edit conflicted. Can you let me know when you are done for a little bit and I will put in the citations I have found? DaffodilOcean (talk) 00:10, 30 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
Sure. Take it away! I would be HAPPY to see the article about Dr. Wyshak published. I would also like to see a WP Harvard, if it could be developed. That HAD been a dream of (the late) Joseph Brain (one of Dr. Wyshak's colleagues at HSPH) before he (recently) died at age 84. MaynardClark (talk) 00:27, 30 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
OK - I will add in my edits.
For what it's worth, I don't know what you mean by this "WP Harvard" ? DaffodilOcean (talk) 00:33, 30 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
The late Dr. Joseph Brain (one of Dr. Wyshak's colleagues at HSPH) before he (recently) died at age 84, had convened a group of Faculty and "knowledge worker" staffers in Harvard's Longwood Medical Area to develop a working group to author Wikipedia articles on Harvard-based scientists and other noteworthy contributors. David Eppstein is currently working on the Wikipedia article "List of women in mathematics", which I suggest would likely host this finished and accepted article in their list. I know that she was born in August 1927, and I do not at this time know whether or not she is still alive. However, quite a few of her research articles were cutting edge "firsts" in evidence-based medicine and advice giving. Although the name "Wyshak" is considered to be a Jewish name, she had told me that she had some involvement with the local Greek Orthodox church (nearby HSPH) and had several times asked me how I was "going to deal with the Bible." MaynardClark (talk) 00:37, 30 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
I was (somewhat) dismayed that you had removed so many of her IMO cutting edge reearch publications (because I consider her WORK to be quite notable (even if she had not been given the organizational or institutional recognition that she had earned with that leading light research that has proved nearly "prophetic" and has changed researcher perceptions on risk factors in human health.[1] MaynardClark (talk) 00:46, 30 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
Ah, OK. Any chance you have a citation for her birth year? Or anything about her education? I find plenty of notes that she was at Harvard, but I have not yet found anything before her time at Harvard. DaffodilOcean (talk) 00:47, 30 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
(though I wonder if she was at Yale in the late 1960s) DaffodilOcean (talk) 00:50, 30 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
@MaynardClark - I am done for now. Let me know what you think. DaffodilOcean (talk) 02:07, 30 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
@DaffodilOcean - To me, it looks great, but I wonder about a "See also" section at the bottom, with health disparities and social determinants of health.MaynardClark (talk) 02:13, 30 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
@DaffodilOcean - Birthdate: She had told me that her birth year was 1927 (we were in the same department and talked often), but The TruePeopleSearch site says that she was born in August 1927 (consistent with what she had told me, but not from a "reliable source"). The only street address available for her now is 53 State Street, Boston, MA 02109, but she had lived in Brookline before (same phone number). We both can continue looking; she would be 96 years old now. I have e-mailed her (our) Department at Harvard for news about her. I find NO obituaries about her; I have reached out to (friends at) the Harvard Center for the History of Medicine at HMS (Countway Library). Several OTHER online people finder sites give the same information about her.[2][3] MaynardClark (talk) 02:20, 30 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
@DaffodilOcean - Marriage and children: I believe that Dr. Wyshak had been married (and had outlived her husband) and had birthed a few children (with whom she may he lived later in her 70s, 80s, and 90s. Online "people search" engines seem to show quite a few persons surnamed Wyshak living at 32 Commonwealth Avenue, (slightly west of) Boston.MaynardClark (talk) 02:34, 30 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
@DaffodilOcean - In 2009, Dr. Wyshak uploaded her CV to her ResearchGate account.[4]
@DaffodilOcean - Dr. Wyshak's CV (as of 2009) shows 123 refereed journal pubilcations, 11 Books and Monographs, 3 book reviews and book chapters, 3 Proceedings of Meetings, 6 letters to the editor, 1 doctoral thesis (listed), and (at least) 5 International Abstracts/Scientific Paper Presentations. No birthdate is shown, but her 1949 baccalaureate from Smith College appears, and there is enough here to population an Infobox about a scientist and/or academic. MaynardClark (talk) 02:53, 30 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
@DaffodilOcean - Dr. Wyshak's (user-uploaded) CV (as of 2009) shows her having received a bachelor's degree from Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts in 1949. In the USA, the average age for completing a baccalaureate (right out of high school) is 22, so 1949 minus 22 = 1927 (the year Dr. Wyshak had told me was her birth year AND the year that appears on numerous "people finder" websites (considered unreliable, but what they are saying is both "reasonable" and consistent with everything else that we DO know).MaynardClark (talk) 03:40, 30 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for pointing me to some dates and work locations. Given that you know Wyshak, you have a conflict of interest (WP:COI) and are discouraged from editing her article. I will finish up this up and submit it to AfC for someone else to consider for review. DaffodilOcean (talk) 21:19, 30 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
I think you need to add what is the one unique thing she has done that nobody else had done before.MaynardClark (talk) 01:41, 31 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
