There's less than one month until the 2008-2009 college football season kicks off, and that's no reason to stop editing! Plenty of historical articles, such as past bowl games, need to be written, and editors are always needed to update teams' season articles. Break out of the summer malaise and get ready for kickoff — check out the to-do list on the Wikiproject College football talk page.
A hearty congratulations should go out to everyone who has elevated an article to Good Article status since January 1. During the past seven months, the project has more than doubled the number of Good Articles! In 2006 and 2007, there were a total of 40 college football GAs. In the first seven months of 2008, we've created 42. Give yourself a pat on the back! For those of you who haven't yet created a college football good article yet, what are you waiting for? At the present rate, there will be more than 120 by year's end. Be a part of something bigger and build a GA-class college football article today!
During the past few months, an excellent notability guideline for college football articles has been constructed at Wikipedia:WikiProject College football/Notability, but your help is needed to make it complete. In particular, your help is requested in defining what makes a college football player notable — Is it being a multiple year starter at a position? Is it being named the best player at a position? Or is it something as simple as holding a school, conference, or national record? Participate in the debate at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject College football/Notability.
The College Football Portal needs to be updated with featured articles and pictures. Do you have a great picture that illustrates the best of college football? Consider adding it to the featured image queue on the portal.
Welcome to the latest issue of the College football WikiProject newsletter! I hope that you're enjoying regular updates about the goings on of college football on Wikipedia, but if not, feel free to add your name to the "no delivery" section on the newsletter signup page.
I encourage everyone to make regular visits to the College Football Portal and perhaps make it your Wikipedia entry page instead of using the Main Page as your gateway. Nominations for selected articles and pictures are always welcome, and can serve as a great way to show off that new article you just shepherded to Good Article status or the great picture you took the last time you were at a game.
Comments and suggestions on improving the newsletter are always welcome, and help me improve it on a monthly basis. Keep contributing and editing, and don't hesitate to contact me or post on the College Football Wikiproject talk page if you need help or just want someone to look over your article.
Arena Football League only infoboxes have been created and need to be added to ALL AFL players. This infobox is for active AFL players only. However, this one is for players who retired from the AFL and NOT another league.
A few new templates have been created and added to the appropriate articels, however if you have ideas for a template leave them here.
The assessment function has been added and the count is over 300 articles at the moment.
Articles for the more popular and "star" players of the league need to be expanded, have citations added to them and hopefully we can get some GA's out of them.
All articles on active players and coaches need to be updated with stats, news, and all things important. (Note: For stats it's best to use ArenaFan.)
Also, we NEED to get things done so we can take them off of the to do list.
It was reported by the Philadelphia Daily News that Philadelphia was still in the hunt to host the 2009 ArenaBowl, though it wasn't alone. In fact, interest has been shown by Hawaii to host the event.
Our goal is to get the number of Stub-Class articles down to 0, in due time. The current count is 185, and will probably be growing in the near future. It would be greatly appreciated if anyone could help expand and/or source an article or two. A list is provided in the stub-class category of stub articles that need to be improved, and some should be fairly easy.

TNA has posted a notice on their official website detailing a release of wrestler Kaz. This has been reported to be kayfabe by numerous other sites, but be prepared to revert edits to Kaz's article regarding this as well as List of Total Nonstop Action Wrestling alumni

Since the AFL is off right now, and all this new stuff with the project came near the end of this past season, I wouldn't expect many people to be very active. Even when I joined the project at the start of the 2008 season, I got the impression that it had been abandoned. Personally, I haven't done much for the Magic, Bucs, and Lightning while they've been in their respective offseasons. I've been in "Rays-mode" 24/7 now that they're good and the baseball season is near the peak of excitement, where things get really serious. Tampabay721 (talk) 21:11, 11 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
LOL I'm worried now because they just said Longoria might be out for 3 weeks, and Crawford might be done for the season. I think all of us went from really confident to extremely worried. I think Tampabay721 is pretty much right. It's the offseason, and the project has been pretty much abandoned for a while. You're the first person with any real enthusiasm to step forward and try to get things going. I've been doing what I can, but I really don't have the patience to sit down and do much more than I do with the Pioneers. And my time has been limited by work here lately, so I can't do as much as I'd like. In my opinion, the best way to go forward is to keep doing what you're doing. Put out the newsletter, ask for opinions, and whatever else. It may help keep an interest level over the offseason, and once 2009 rolls around we might actually have a project going. Don't lose hope. The guidelines for writing pay-per-view articles has been updated, see here. The new guidelines should be followed in order for an article to be nominated for Good article or Featured article status.
The project has had a cleanup listing generated here. It details all the article within the project that are tagged as having problems. Please help to fix the problems outlined.

The Future class rating has been incorporated into the project's assessment. It's intended use is for pay-per-views articles or video games that have not occurred or have been released, respectively.

It was announced on the August 25 television episode of Raw that John Cena had suffered a herniated disc in his neck. Cena received successful surgery the following day, and will be inactive for 2-4 months.
