Query about macro that converts abt. to c.

I noticed that you changed an entry in the Sweetest Chant Stakes that modified the distance of a event from abt. 1+18 miles to c. 1+18 miles. According to the reference provided the distance uses the nomenclature of "About" not "circa". Hence I have reverted those edits back as to what the distance is as given in the reference. Your draft article, Draft:Cincinnati Business Courier

Hello, Colonies Chris. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Cincinnati Business Courier".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Thank you for your submission to Wikipedia! UnitedStatesian (talk) 05:55, 15 February 2021 (UTC)

Edit summary

Hello. I have noticed that you often edit without using an edit summary. Please do your best to always fill in the summary field. This helps your fellow editors use their time more productively, rather than spending it unnecessarily scrutinizing and verifying your work. Even a short summary is better than no summary, and summaries are particularly important for large, complex, or potentially controversial edits. Thanks! Jklamo (talk) 17:49, 23 February 2021 (UTC)

Removing publisher field from citations on Darebin Falcons

Hello Chris, just wondering why you removed the publisher field from certain citations in this edit to Darebin Falcons? – Teratix 00:58, 8 March 2021 (UTC)

Hi User:Teratix: this is in accordance with Template:Cite news#Publisher - "Not normally used for periodicals." For most periodicals the publisher doesn't provide any information useful to a person looking up the reference. Colonies Chris (talk) 10:05, 8 March 2021 (UTC)

Convert template

Hi, Can you please avoid replacing wind speeds in hurricane and tropical cyclone articles with the convert template as the winds are taken from either knots, m/s, km/h and mph and converted to both km/h and mph separately. As a result in the majority of cases, you are replacing the correct conversion with a false conversion. Thanks.Jason Rees (talk) 13:26, 8 April 2021 (UTC)

Please give me an example. Colonies Chris (talk) 13:32, 8 April 2021 (UTC)
Ok lets take Eric here. The FMS at the time estimated winds of 80 kts which is 150 km/h (90 mph), but you applied the convert template and put the winds to 150 km/h which equals 95 mph. Other sources present peak tropical cyclone winds in m/s, mph or km/h which is why we don't generally put the convert template down and prefer to present the winds in just km/h and mph. Here is some background information from a few years ago which I strongly suspect still applies.Jason Rees (talk) 13:48, 8 April 2021 (UTC)
Ok, I see your point. However, a source value of 80 knots does of course itself represent the midpoint of a range from 79.5 to 80.49, and those convert respectively to a range from 91.5 mph / 147.2 km/h (90/150 rounded) to 92.6 mph / 149.1km/h (95/150 rounded). So it's not clear which conversion is right anyway. The {{convert}} template has the option to convert from a value without displaying it (disp=out parameter), so the source value could be included in the article without being visible to the reader, if you don't want to clutter up the article with knots or any of the other possible source unit values. e.g. {{convert|80|kn|mph km/h|round=5|disp=out}} shows as "90 mph; 150 km/h". Colonies Chris (talk) 14:39, 8 April 2021 (UTC)
If we want to go down the technical road then I would say that the conversions that we currently use in the tropical cyclone articles are quite correct as the wind speeds are generally presented in multiples of 5. This is to account for the fact that they are only ever estimates of the wind speed associated with the system and in theory would mean that anything from 77.5 kts to 82.5 kts would be correct. However, that's going down the technical road and over-precise route, when I personally feel that the option you presented would work.Jason Rees (talk) 17:13, 8 April 2021 (UTC)
