DYK nomination of Hector Bell edit

Hello! Your submission of Hector Bell at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and some issues with it may need to be clarified. Please review the comment(s) underneath your nomination's entry and respond there as soon as possible. Thank you for contributing to Did You Know! Calistemon (talk) 18:05, 7 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

Your hook has already been promoted. I think moving the article will now have to wait till after it got to the front page, to prevent confusion. By the way, no offence taken, DYK can be a bit frustrating when somebody gets really anal about meeting the criteria. I know the feeling! Calistemon (talk) 20:35, 7 November 2014 (UTC)Reply
  • No problem, I'll be able to do it myself then. You weren't being anal, you were being right; I knew you'd question it because I probably would have, hence the source hunt. The article was improved as a result, that seems like a good outcome all round. ColonialGrid (talk) 04:12, 8 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

Moreland edit

Thanks for adding this information - it's really useful to have. Two things:

1) I can't for the life of me work out that table - is there people missing? The number of members seems to alternate between terms.

2) Maybe it's worth breaking it off to another article (as with the Mayors)? Moreland has been around a decade longer than the table that's currently there, and it won't fit on that page. The Drover's Wife (talk) 14:30, 6 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

  • Sorry, I had to go out so haven't finished. There are blank spaces as I'm still trying to figure out party allegiances, and I have spanned members across multiple columns to denote re-election. If you think that is too ambiguous, I could add the date of tenure in parenthesis next to there names. I don't think the content in enough to warrant a WP:SPLIT, but wouldn't object to a more in depth fork which details election results as well. Before 2004 it was single member wards, which would need a separate table (such as in City of Yarra). ColonialGrid (talk) 14:39, 6 December 2014 (UTC)Reply
Looks good now. The election of a bunch of past suburban Melbourne mayors to parliament this election highlights why we really need this sort of content - most of them aren't referred to at all in their council articles at the moment. The Drover's Wife (talk) 15:24, 7 December 2014 (UTC)Reply
  • Thanks. Feedback on how to improve the tables would be good, I plan on doing a few municipalities in slightly differing ways and then asking for feedback. I agree, to be honest I'm a little surprised at how light on many of the council articles are. Especially given how readily available simple things like current and previous compositions are (although finding party alignment is much harder). Disambiguation link notification for December 11 edit

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Rob Hudson, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Elizabeth Miller. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Busan Line 1 Route Diagram: Route Diagram over Image edit

We now have a route diagram (just like the other rail system pages). You can't click onto stations with image, so you're literally worsening the page. What's more, there is not a description of whether the station is underground or above ground with the image. Leave the route diagram Terramorphous edited alone; you're trying to worsen the page. HanSangYoon (talk) 00:55, 27 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

@ColonialGrid: Are you aware I'm here? HanSangYoon (talk) 05:34, 27 February 2015 (UTC)Reply
  • You really need to wrap your head around BRD. Your bold edit has been reverted, now is the time to discuss why it should be included. Remove the template and discuss why it should be included. ColonialGrid (talk) 05:36, 27 February 2015 (UTC)Reply
'scuse me? Terramorphous uploaded the picture, and I agree with his actions. You came in with an inaccurate picture (Bold...), I reverted the edit of yours (...Revert...), and THEN we talk, ColonialGrid (...Discuss). Please take that warning back to you.
Now talking about the topic, 1) The route map is inaccurate. There are stations on the map that shows there is going to be a route to the north- no official announcements has been made for that section- even a consideration. Also, the southern extension's names are not official yet; the image is clearly off.

2) That image shows no aboveground or underground information unlike the route map. There is also no way to add on structures and details that is along or on the route. Since this is a Korea-based wiki page, following the format as it is in Korean will be more appropriate.

3) The article has been worsened with replacing a more functional, same route map with a less functional one- this means the image insertion is a degradation. Terramorphous and I have made this map (along with another user), so we are accurate on what we made.

HanSangYoon (talk) 05:47, 27 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

  • It was added as a bold edit, and I reverted it. If you want the image map also removed, fine. But you have no right to edit war the templates inclusion; I reverted its addition just over a day after it was included. This is firmly within the confines of a reverted bold action, which you are now edit warring. ColonialGrid (talk) 05:52, 27 February 2015 (UTC)Reply
I have explained throughly of why you're flasely accusing me, and also why you've broke the policy combination of WP:BRD, WP:DSAN, WP:V, WP:WONTWORK, WP:DE, and etc. by doing so. I've had enough with you here. HanSangYoon (talk) 07:01, 27 February 2015 (UTC)Reply
  • No I haven't, don't try to wikilawyer me. I reverted an edit I disagreed with, if you do agree with it discuss why it should be included, if you don't like the map I put in, remove it. ColonialGrid (talk) 07:05, 27 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

Polling Graph edit

Hey there I was going through the Victorian state election (2014) page and I noticed that you made a few graphs for the opinion polling section. I recently asked a person on how they did that and managed to nearly figured it out. Anyway, how do you do the x-axis in a "monthly basis"....so like this:

https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Victoria_state_election_polling_2010_election_to_2014_election.png

After that how do you make the individual polling data fit into the graph? For example, Newspoll sometimes has polling results from "October-December 2014" and then Morgan has one on the 26th of December 2014 etc. How do you collate things into either one month or in a gap between say "November and December"

Sorry for the hassle DestinationAlan (talk) 05:40, 31 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

  • @DestinationAlan: no hassle at all. I made the graphs in OpenOffice's spreadsheet software Calc. I just copied the polling data into a spreadsheet and converted the dates to a date format Calc understood; I generally took the middle date of a range as the 'day' the poll was commissioned for the graph, as this (in my mind) was the best way of spreading the newspolls out and trying to diffuse blips. With all of the dates in the spreadsheet the graph just automatically added the date axis and plotted the polls accordingly. I'd be happy to create more if you tell me what election(s) you're interested in and what data you want in the graphs. But, it might take a little while. ColonialGrid (talk) 13:26, 31 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

Cheers for the response! I appreciate the offer to do a graph, but I'm trying to self-learn how to do this for future elections coming ahead (such as my state's in 2018 and the federal election in 2016-2017). Would it be okay for you to send the spreadsheet of the Victorian Election 2014 polling graph? Thanks again. DestinationAlan (talk) 00:50, 1 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Victoria_state_election_polling_2010_election_to_2014_election.png

  • @DestinationAlan: sure thing, here you go, you'll need to have OpenOffice Calc (or something else that opens the open document format), this can be downloaded from https://www.openoffice.org/. I took a screen shot of the graph then opened it up in image manipulation software to move the Napthine/election keys. Any questions don't hesitate to ask. ColonialGrid (talk) 13:36, 1 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

What's with the numbers after the polling data? For example, ReachTel[41] DestinationAlan (talk) 23:16, 1 April 2015 (UTC) Btw, cheers for reverting my NSW election seat changes table. I got a bit annoyed that someone repealed it. Also how do you edit the chart to make it like the one you made? Because as soon as I make a graph it goes all over the place.Reply

Do we use respondent-allocated prefs instead of last election prefs to calculate 2PP on any of the polls..? Timeshift (talk) 09:54, 18 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

  • Why not? Seems to me a respondent knows better where they will direct preferences than anyone; if it gets asked, it should be included. I've always been a bit iffy on using previous preference flows to demonstrate TPP, if some change their primary vote, surely others change their preferences. ColonialGrid (talk) 09:58, 18 August 2015 (UTC)Reply
I'm not too fussed as long as it's consistent. I'm pretty sure that until now we've added the headline figure which is prev-election prefs. Timeshift (talk) 09:59, 18 August 2015 (UTC)Reply
  • If all we have is TPP based on last elections preference flows, that's all we can use, but I think if the poll asked for current TPP we should use that. However, as with everything on Wiki, I'm fully prepared to accept the consensus if it's decided to only use TPP based on last elections preference flows. John Kavanagh, Moreland, Independent edit

Hello ColonialGrid, thanks for your work on Moreland City Council website. I made 2 changes but couldn't get format right. John Kavanagh was first elected as an independent, I believe he ran as an independent in subsequent elections even though at some stage he joined the DLP. He resigned from the DLP before the last election, and certainly ran as an independent. He is not now a member of the DLP. I changed his party affiliation in 2 places, but the second format was beyond my technical ability. Are you able to make it look nice again? Brunswicknic (talk) 17:41, 27 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
