Frank Iguodala

I have added a "{{prod}}" template to the article Frank Iguodala, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, or, if you disagree with the notice, discuss the issues at its talk page. Removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, but the article may still be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached, or if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria. -Big Smooth 21:59, 4 January 2007 (UTC)

Restoration Request

Hello. I started an article 'oklahoma dday' a few years back. the article recently picked up interest and then to everyone's dismay was deleted. The article needs some serious editing to get it up to snuff- but the event itself is of alot of interest to alot of people. It is currently the world's largest paintball game- but is evolving into the world's largest historical recreation of dday. Let me know when it's up and I'll edit it down to wikistandards. Thanks, call me if there is any questions i can answer: cingular cell: five oh one - three five two - five one oh six—Preceding unsigned comment added by Seankubin (talkcontribs)

Self-noms

Hi Chaser. I want to know what you would suggest to somebody who is thinking about adminship, and wants to self-nom. I saw that your RfA was a self-nom, and I want to get some pointers about what I should do. Thanks.--CJ King 20:52, 17 January 2007 (UTC)

If you're asking because I closed your RFA, I actually don't have as much experience as others. NoSeptember might be good to ask. I know some people hold higher standards for self-noms, for whatever reason. Looking at your first RFA, you indicated you wanted to use the whole bag of tools. For learning when it's appropriate to block, I suggest doing some counter vandalism (WP:RCP) and making reports to WP:AIV. Whether existing admins block on the reports you make is usually a good indication of whether you should make a block once you've got the tools. Follow WP:ANI a bit for more complex blocks. Similarly, AFD is a good way to learn deletion policy. Participate more there. If you haven't already, do a little new page patrol, WP:NPP, to learn the speedy deletion criteria. I've got to go, but drop me a line here if you want more info.--Chaser T 21:05, 17 January 2007 (UTC)

Template:Bridge header

Re:Suspension bridge, your edit of 28 December 2006

The header template you placed immediately preceding the bridge type infobox (template BridgeType Pix) caused a side-by-side display, inappropriate for narrow screens. I moved it to the article's See also section, which appears appropriate for any specific bridge type and also for any specific bridge article using the template Infobox_Bridge, since even if properly vertically stacked it would leave no room for addtional images early in the article. - Leonard G. 16:40, 18 January 2007 (UTC)

Jack Carr, msg 1

I was wondering why you removed the {{db-bio}} tag from Jack Carr. Given the time this person was playing I find it highly unlikely that he was a professional athlete, the club would have been composed of amateurs at the time. Rich257 13:17, 19 January 2007 (UTC)

When I read the linked articles, it looked like the team was professional then, but I'm admittedly clueless about British football. In any case, if it's that unclear, it should probably be taken to AFD, but you could still prod it if you want. Sorry it took me so long to respond; I got called away from the computer suddenly on Saturday.--Chaser T 12:07, 22 January 2007 (UTC)

Jack Carr

Hi, I have updated the Jack Carr section, with more details of his career and time in management within football (soccer).

Thanks for the advice, I am just new to wikipedia and I am learning steadily.

Take care. Mick

Newyorkbrad's RfA

Thank you for your support on my RfA, which closed favorably this morning, as well as for your kind comments accompanying your !vote. I appreciate the confidence the community has placed in me and am looking forward to my new responsibilities. Please let me know if ever you have any comments or suggestions, especially as I am learning how to use the tools. And in answer to your question "what took so long?", the answer is that I probably thought it was better to risk a few weeks too late than a few weeks too soon; in any event, it's done now. Adam Keller court martial deletion review

Hi! User:NE2 has kindly provided some citations. These include

  1. Jerusalem Post Dec 19 1995,
  2. Ha'aretz (May 6, 1988)
  3. Washington Report on Middle East Affairs Dec 1, 2004.

Would you be prepared to revise your position on the notability of the courtmatial? Thanks for your input Abu ali 16:48, 26 January 2007 (UTC)

Hi again. Thanks for your input to the discussion. I answered your point regarding the fact that Kellner made most of the edits to the article himself on the project page [1]. You may want to respond. Thanks also for provisionally undeleting, as it allowed me to see the text and prepare my comments properly. Abu ali 10:31, 29 January 2007 (UTC)
No sweat. It's often helpful to see the material under discussion.--Chaser T 10:33, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

Vandalism

RE: your 8 hour block on User:62.254.173.99. I doubt that this will have any effect or even be noticed. The user is logging on daily during a mid day break. There were 10 counts of vandalism alone today and the user is growing more bold and offensive daily, with the recent ones being slanderous and anti-gay. Since the 9th of January there have been some 38 counts of vandalism with no constructive editing at all. I have sent an e-mail to the Kirklees Mayors Office, to whom the IP address is registered and I'm awaiting a formal reply. Could you please consider placing a 30 day block until their IT staff do some checking? This may result in a request for a permanent block. Having already had an informal chat they see no reason why any of their staff should be using the council website to edit wikipedia at all. Richard Harvey 16:59, 30 January 2007 (UTC)

VP Archiving bot

I have the bot ready. I need from you is a list of pages that should have posts removed, and the length of time after which they should be removed; per our conversation, the bot will only remove the posts, it will not archive them anywhere, doing away with the need for the "slush" archive page. I also need to see a discussion on whatever is the main VP coordination page where the community approves use of the bot for this. I believe I will designate this bot as User:EssjayBot V; it should be no problem getting approval to run it under that name. Essjay (Talk) 09:53, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

There's an ancient discussion here, with some resistance to just deleting things (this was before there were six separate pages). When I brought it up here, no one responded. The most authoritative thing I can find is an indication of community approval here, but we've been deleting old posts forever, as far as I can tell, so mostly it's approval by tradition. If you want a current discussion before implementation, I can do that.
All posts older than 14 days should be removed from the following pages:

Wikipedia:Village pump (assistance)/Archive

Wikipedia:Village pump (news)/Archive

Wikipedia:Village pump (policy)/Archive

Wikipedia:Village pump (technical)/Archive

Wikipedia:Village pump (proposals)/Archive

Wikipedia:Village pump (miscellaneous)/Archive

--Chaser T 11:58, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

The last one is authoritative enough for me; as soon as I hear back about whether I need to make a formal request for approval, I'll get it set up. Essjay (Talk) 14:15, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
