MESO-SAILS edit

What is that? Please give a short explanation in the article "Terminal Doppler Weather Radar" or create an article about this. It is not useful to have redlinks about unknown information.

Deletion discussion about MESO-SAILS edit

Hello, GlueManGoop,

I wanted to let you know that there's a discussion about whether MESO-SAILS should be deleted. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/MESO-SAILS .

If you're new to the process, articles for deletion is a group discussion (not a vote!) that usually lasts seven days. If you need it, there is a guide on how to contribute. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.

Thanks,

Custom signature edit

Bryan, I appreciated what you had to say in response to Master of Time's question over at WT:SVR#Wind ranges. I did noticed that your custom signature makes it hard to identify you without clicking through to your talk page (particularly for editors using mobile devices). This goes against community guidelines, and I'm hoping you could update your signature to make it more obviously associated with your username. You can see the guidelines and get ideas for what can be done over at WP:SIG#CustomSig. Cheers! —jameslucas ▄▄▄ ▄ ▄▄▄ ▄▄▄ ▄ 20:10, 28 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for bringing it to my attention, James! Bryan C. W. (talk) 04:52, 29 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Ks0stm: - Thank you! I'm glad to be here. I have indeed been looking into the WikiProjects lately, because oddly enough their existence has gone un-noticed by me. Nonetheless, thank you for the warm (albeit belated) welcome! Bryan C. W. (talk) 13:48, 8 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

File:Tornado Vortex Sig, tuscaloosa.png edit

Hi:

I don't want to contradict you but this is the image of a mesocyclone on a Doppler image. A TVS, is the detection of a meso cyclone with a certain strength done by an algorithm analysing the Doppler data. The detection is shown usually by a upside-down triangle superimposed on the mesocyclone on the WDSS of the National Weather Service radar display.

TVS/Meso edit

@Pierre cb: - no worries! Thanks for correcting that on the page. That was on my part :-) Bryan C. W. (talk) 01:19, 11 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

TDWR edit

TWDR has 0.5 degre beamwith, not 1.0 degree (https://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/data-access/radar-data/tdwr). Please read the references.

Pierre cb (talk) 23:32, 5 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

TDWR beam edit

Im not sure if my data is flawed or corrupted, but all TDWR i have downloaded to inspect has a precise beamwidth of 0.994 degrees. Im not sure why all sources say 0.5 when all data says otherwise. Bryan C. W. (talk) 16:19, 7 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

November 2017 edit

Hello, I'm TJH2018. I noticed that you made a change to an article, Al Franken, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so! If you need guidance on referencing, please see the referencing for beginners tutorial, or if you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Merge of WSR-4 and WSR-1 edit

Hi:

WSR-1, 1A, 3 and 4 are variants of the same radar. In French, I have created only one article for them all. I would suggest a merger of WSR-1 and WSR-4 the same way in English. What do you think of that?

Another point, the WSR-1 to 4 series are fom the AN/APS-2 radar as stated in your best reference (Whiton, Roger C.; al. (February 19, 1998). "History of Operational Use of Weather Radar by U.S. Weather Services. : The Pre-NEXRAD Era.". Weather and Forecasting. 13 (2): 219–243. doi:10.1175/1520-0434(1998)013<0219:HOOUOW>2.0.CO;2.) on page 222. It was an S-Band (10 cm weavelength) as stated on page 240. Your other reference (https://www.weather.gov/dtx/beecherradar#WSR) to AN/APQ-13 is wrong, that radar was modified to use by the military as a weather radar, previously to WSR-1 to 4, on military bases (Whiton, page 221).

Pierre cb (talk) 19:56, 27 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

I'm not against it, by all means Pierre cb. Just noticed some variants were improperly covered on the rest of the site. Would be a worthwhile expansion of the WSR-1 article, too. Bryan C. W. (talk) 17:11, 28 April 2018 (UTC)Reply
I translated my text from French and inputted it in WSR-1. Would you want me make the merge and adding your text from WSR-4? Pierre cb (talk) 18:02, 28 April 2018 (UTC)Reply
Sorry for late response - if more easily summarized, that'd be best - as is, though, I think the current layout post WSR-1 edit you made is the most efficient layout, so its more of a judgement call on your end. The current layout I think works well. Bryan C. W. (talk) 00:21, 1 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
I made the merger, including the maximum from your article that was concordant with sources. Pierre cb (talk) 03:50, 1 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Bangabandhu-1 launch date edit

Hi, where did you see this launch date? Both Falcon 9 and 2018 in spaceflight claim May 10 with a different reference, but both references say TBA. --mfb (talk) 15:12, 7 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Apologies, I failed to source - http://www.unb.com.bd/tech-news/Bangabandhu-1-launching-now-on-May-10%C2%A0/70110 - this and The Daily Star (similar outlets) cite May 10 as of today. Bryan C. W. (talk) 15:34, 7 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Now we also have confirmations from SpaceX on Twitter and so on. Okay. --mfb (talk) 14:34, 8 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

SMART-R edit

Thanks for this new article. It was a red link up to now on the radar template in French, so I just wanted to let you know, I translated your article to fill that gap with a mention of the source.

Pierre cb (talk) 19:30, 18 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Any time, @Pierre cb. Noticed until I changed it, it was also a red link on the US template. My plan is to get all red-link articles on the US weather radar template up as articles throughout the summer. I removed them for now but have all that were red on it jotted down. Bryan C. W. (talk) 00:23, 19 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
Good. Keep me informed of further articles on that list. Pierre cb (talk) 11:54, 19 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hi again. I did some article on the same subject in French. You can find them on fr:Modèle:Palette Radars météorologiques. Maybe you can find some usefull references for your work. Pierre cb (talk) 01:13, 5 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

Appreciate that @User:Pierre cb. Noticed the CSU-CHILL article is in the french wiki but not here, and I was working on that so Im going to port that over to here while im at it. Bryan C. W. (talk) 05:51, 5 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

NSSL edit

Hi:

Why did you removed historical paragraphs like: "In 2000, NSSL was funded to build the National Weather Radar Testbed (NWRT) facility. This facility is located in Norman and is designed to develop and test phased array radar technology. Phased array radar is five times faster than current radars and can scan the sky in less than one minute." which are based on NSSL historical references?

Pierre cb (talk) 22:37, 21 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Reasoning

@Pierre cb,- I did this because it immediately preceded a section describing in a very similar fashion the function of the Phased Array in which their focus has been on - I feel like it is so that the section as is now adequately explains their efforts, as does the linked article. Of course, some compromise or mix of the two could be made. Bryan C. W. (talk) 01:26, 22 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

I saw what was added to the Introduction and other sections but nothing there is about the timing of those. The text you removed seems to me to leave gaps in the History. Lastly, now the beginning of HWT is set in 1997, instead of 2000, if you read carefully.
Pierre cb (talk) 03:48, 22 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Pierre cb, thanks for pointing that out, I think that was a broad error I missed. Gonna quickly fix that Bryan C. W. (talk) 13:14, 22 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

WikiProject Weather: Map Dot & Template/Infobox Colors edit

Dear project member, This message is being sent out to encourage new ideas and feedback on those proposed in regard to the colors debate for WikiProject Weather. For those who are unaware of what's been happening over the last year, I will give a brief summary. We have been discussing proposed changes to the colors of the dots on tropical cyclone maps and templates and infoboxes across the entire weather project in order to solve issues related to the limited contrast between colors for both normal vision as well as the various types of color blindness (MOS:ACCESS). We had partially implemented a proposal earlier this year, however, it was objected to by a number of people and additional issues were presented that made it evident this wasn't the optimal solution. We tried to come up with other solutions to address the issues related to color contrast, however, none of them gained traction and no consensus was generated.

We need your help and I encourage you to propose your own scale and give feedback on those already listed. Keep in mind that we are NOT making a decision on any individual proposal at this time. We are simply allowing people to make proposals and cultivate them given feedback from other project members. Please visit our project page for additional details. The proposal phase will close no later than December 31st at 23:59 UTC. NoahTalk 04:08, 21 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
