I made a series of edits today to new pages that deserved speedy deletion by adding the necessary tags and came back to find I'd been blocked indefinitely with the notation "all edits vandalism." I think a mistake has been made. If not, I'd like to know what I did that constituted vandalism; I'm sure I didn't post any such tags on worthwhile articles. Bootstoots 01:02, 18 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

Yes, you did the right thing and I encourage you to continue to do so. Vandal fighters are precious to us here. System glitch attributed the original edits to you, which is why I blocked you. Thanks again for the nice e-mail and for your understanding. Please don't hesitate to call on me for help at any time. - Lucky 6.9 01:31, 18 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

I caught the error I made by not signing my comment on the articles for deletion page, but the discussion was archived before I could correct it. --Bootstoots 00:50, 29 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Man you are fast. On the Fireraisers redirect, did you just have to correct the wiki markup or did you delete/recreate? I thought I tried the correction, but maybe I didn't save. John 04:16, 29 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

applying the cleanup tag responsibly edit

You applied the cleanup tag to an article recently. But you didn't initiate a discussion on the talk page explaining your concern. You never noticed that once the cleanup tag is applied to an article it directs editors to consult the talk page for a discussion of the issues with the article?

Responsible use the cleanup and related tags obliges wikipedians to initiate the discussion of those issues. -- Geo Swan 15:40, 29 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

"nn" edit

Hello, I see what you mean now. However, in an Article for Deletion, clarity is important. I think it is beneficial to write "non notable" rather than just "nn" - I didn't recognise it, I just thought it was a mistake, so I doubt the poster of the original article would have either. No harm done, though. Bob 21:58, 18 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Okay, I understand. It's a common abbreviation in AfD, but you're right that the poster likely wouldn't recognize it. - Bootstoots 22:00, 18 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Your VandalProof Application edit

Dear Bootstoots,

Thank you for applying for VandalProof! (VP). As you may know, VP is a very powerful program, and in fact the just released 1.3 version has even more power. Because of this we must uphold strict protocols before approving a new applicant. Regretfully, I have chosen to decline your application at this time. The reason for this is that at this time you do not meet the minimum requirement of 250 edits to mainspace articles (see under main here). Please note it is nothing personal by any means, and we certainly welcome you to apply again soon. Thank you for your interest in VandalProof. - Glen 00:26, 23 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Civilization Fanatics Center edit

Please do not remove Articles for deletion notices from articles or remove other people's comments in Articles for deletion pages. The notices and comments are needed to establish community consensus about the status of an article, and removing them is considered vandalism. If you oppose the deletion of an article, you may comment at the respective page instead. Thank you. - CobaltBlueTony 17:46, 28 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

That was a prod tag, which are perfectly legitimate to remove per Wikipedia:Proposed Deletion. If it had been Articles for deletion, that would have been a different story. I was about to place a notice explaining my reasoning on your talk page after I removed it, as well. - Bootstoots 17:50, 28 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

please explain this to me... edit

i am completely offended by the content that has been added to the Irish American page...the facts given in the upper portion of the article are pure and utter rubbish...the article was fine for many months because it had sources i.e the us census...for example...34 million americans claim irish ancestry...4.9 million claim scotch-irish ancestry...yet two clowns like to bring in estimated numbers in the range of 23-30 million being of scotch irish ancestry...the census didn't show that...also ...i take great offense when they state the Irish America wants a united Ireland..while i do support a united Ireland...they shouldn't speak for every Irish American...i just think it is ironic that they are allowed to add in content that is without any statistical merit and it actually offends me...let me ask u...if we had additions made on an African American pages that states untrue facts on slavery..or if we had added content that altered Jewish content...would that be considered ok??? all i am saying is that the facts should be stated with good sources...this business of stating useless facts while waiting for a citation is rediculous especially when i feel it is anti-irish and prejudice in nature...i am making an official complaint now...

  • Do as you will; I was just attempting to revert what looked like partial blanking vandalism. If you wish to make serious changes, you are strongly advised to discuss them on the talk page first, with your reasoning as to why part of the article is incorrect. Also, please note the 3RR when you make reversions to that article, by the way: it appears that you're in serious violation of it. - Bootstoots 22:02, 2 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

David Matthews and Dave Matthews - not the same edit

Bootstoots: There already is an article for Dave Matthews from South Africa and his band The Dave Matthews Band. Those articles have nothing to do with David Matthews (musician). The claims made by the article are not true. The band Toto (band) wrote the music for the movie Dune (film) claimed on the site. See the article Dune (movie soundtrack) for more details about Toto and the soundtrack. Please note that none of the Toto band members are named "David Matthews". I also did a Google search for the song Sandworm, and found nothing except a group named Giant Sandworm, but no song. Just in case the editor of this article mistook the film Dune for the TV mini-series Dune I also check the soundtrack of the TV series. That soundtrack was written by Graeme Revell. There is no doubt that article David Matthews (musician) is a hoax.

So, please do me a favor and put the hoax template back and delete the link to the Dave Matthews Band. WVhybrid 03:18, 3 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

  • Oops. Sorry about that. I've reverted my edit and proposed that the article be deleted. - Bootstoots 03:25, 3 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

About the change I made... edit

Hi. I wasn't actually testing anything on the page about Global Intellectuals Poll, I was fixing it, beacuse someone put David Icke on the list, in place of Pope Benedict XVI. If you know know who David Icke is, I think you will find this a good joke, but a little bit unserious for Wikipedia.

Bootstoots edit

Excuse me, but I was not vandalizing or "testing" the World Peace article. I had contributed to the "see also" section some time ago, and simply put the list of "see also" articles in alphabetical order. What is wrong with that?? Not only is it not wrong, but it is perfectly in keeping with Wikipedia guidelines. I have reverted your reversion of my edit. 65.28.2.218 17:28, 6 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

  • That's my mistake. Sorry about that. - Bootstoots 17:30, 6 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

yes, you seem to do that rather a lot. I wasn't testing the dursleys, I was adding information that agreed with the article on book seven, which you don't seem to be compulsively reverting. --74.65.139.216 00:29, 7 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Welcome to Wikipedia. We invite everyone to contribute constructively to our encyclopedia. Take a look at the welcome page if you would like to learn more about contributing. However, unconstructive edits are considered vandalism, and if you continue in this manner you may be blocked from editing without further warning. • Both of those were mistakes. I was manually reverting obvious vandalism the first time, didn't see that somebody had reverted while I was also attempting to revert, ended up sticking the vandal edit right back in, then thought I had been reverted by accident and did it again. Sorry about that, and don't think I'm a vandal - I was trying to fight it, not add to it. - Bootstoots 02:40, 7 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

  • The wikipedia formatting codes are too hard to learn. I want to contribe more but all i know how to do is make a funny here and there. I saw Selena's lips and immediately knew what would be funny to say. You have to admit it was funny. Who doesn't get a chuckle out of the term "dick sucking lips". Every time someone mentions DSL, that comes to mind. I will always remember selena for her lips. anyways, if they make a wysiwyg editor for wikipedia, i would love it.

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Spanish Civil War, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Fascist Italy (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver).
