ArbCom elections are now open!Edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. For the Election committee, MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:57, 23 November 2015 (UTC)

Admin help requestedEdit

Hi - I put a QD tag on the page Michael Halleran because Mr Halleran contacted me and requested that his page be deleted for privacy reasons. Is it possible to get this done ASAP? If I can provide any information to verify, I'll be happy to do so. Bookgrrl holler/lookee here 03:39, 8 December 2015 (UTC)

Articles are not deleted on the basis of whether the subject wants an article about themselves or not. In the very least I would recommend taking it to WP:AFD under WP:BLPREQUESTDELETE but it cannot be speedily deleted. Mkdwtalk 05:53, 8 December 2015 (UTC)
Actually when it's a bio of a living person, they can be deleted for precisely that reason, according to Wikipedia's own policy; see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Deletion_policy#Deletion_of_biographies_and_BLPs and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Biographies_of_living_persons#Deletion_of_BLPs_of_relatively_unknown_subjects . I will pursue this via the link you provided. Bookgrrl holler/lookee here 14:51, 8 December 2015 (UTC)
They cannot be speedily deleted. Mkdwtalk 22:44, 8 December 2015 (UTC)

Admin help requested, part 2Edit

I have tried numerous times to add the RfD https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Michael_Halleran_%282nd_nomination%29 to the AfD log https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Log/2015_December_8 using the instructions here in step III: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion#Nominating_article.28s.29_for_deletion The line that I entered for it in the log looks just the same as all the other articles listed, but it doesn't appear in the TOC nor does the relevant section underneath the TOC have a proper title. I'm not sure what I did wrong, I followed all the directions very carefully. Help?

Fixed. It wasn't a second nomination, so the AfD page is at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Michael Halleran, and it is properly listed in today's AfD log. I have to confess that, because the system inserts the signature of the person who filed the AfD, I fiddled (forged) it to show your signature. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 15:35, 8 December 2015 (UTC)

WikilinkingEdit

A tip: to make a "wikilink" to another page, you don't need to give the full URL, you can just type the page name within double square brackets. So typing Michael Halleran gives Michael Halleran. That works for all kinds of pages, not just articles. JohnCD (talk) 16:00, 8 December 2015 (UTC)

Right, thanks. I knew that about articles in the main wiki space, but when I tried it with the AfD pages (they're in sub-spaces, e.g. "Articles for deletion/Michael_Halleran") I couldn't seem to make it work. Bookgrrl holler/lookee here 04:18, 9 December 2015 (UTC)
You have to include the namespace, eg. "Wikipedia:" or "User talk:" as applicable. Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Michael Halleran gives Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Michael Halleran. If you do Show preview and it shows as a redlink, you have mistyped something. You can use a "pipe" character | to make the link show as something else: the AfD page shows as the AfD page but gives the same link. The full detail is at Help:Linking. JohnCD (talk) 18:36, 9 December 2015 (UTC)
Aha, thanks for the tip :) Bookgrrl holler/lookee here 19:23, 22 December 2015 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for March 12Edit

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Roy W. Howard, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Sino-Japanese war. Proposed deletion of File:MerrowTat.pngEdit

The file File:MerrowTat.png has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Unused personal file, no foreseeable encyclopedic use

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Brian McClendonEdit

Bookgrrl,

Thank you so much for your work on my page. You just re-reverted a change by someone who I had asked to revert a change for. My wife's first name is "Beth Ellyn" and, even though it would benefit me politically, I was not actually born in Lawrence Kansas, I moved there early in childhood. It is my home town and by some definitions I'm a "native", but... not by birth.

Could you please un-revert the change that the other person made? S/he was correcting a mistake s/he made in a prior edit. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2001:49D0:8512:1:90CC:5BF6:EC0F:C1F6 (talk) 20:23, 17 September 2018 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Bill Nelson (artist)Edit

Hello, Bookgrrl. I wanted to let you know that I’m proposing an article that you started, Bill Nelson (artist), for deletion because it's a biography of a living person that lacks references. If you don't want Bill Nelson (artist) to be deleted, please add a reference to the article.

If you don't understand this message, you can leave a note on my talk page.

Thanks,

Meatsgains(talk) 19:08, 30 November 2018 (UTC)

Goodness, you're in a hurry :) It's a stub, I thought stubs were permitted to have less information to give them a chance to grow? I'm trying to track down the LCNAF identifier for him (but there are a LOT of Bill Nelsons); will that suffice? Perhaps you could give me a day or two... Unspecified source/license for File:242 CA logo.tifEdit

Thanks for uploading File:242 CA logo.tif. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

I noticed that you added this image to a page I created, 242nd Coast Artillery (United States). I'm pretty sure US Army distinctive unit insignia are US government publications, and can be exempted from copyright on that basis. RobDuch (talk) 06:43, 15 December 2018 (UTC)

I have no idea!
That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
Unless I tracked down the connection in our user talk archives, in which case you know who you are!
Or not.
All the best for you and yours this Christmas 2018 and New Year 2019!

Disambiguation support requestEdit

While working on article Islamic advice literature I realized that word 'Qisas' is appearing in different meaning at Qisas Al-Anbiya it comes as story/anecdote telling (alternative spelling Kissa). And in article named Qisas seems to come as revenge. Need support in creating proper disambiguation page and links so reader do not end up in unexpected pages.

Of course article Islamic advice literature too needs support in update and expansion since lot of scholarly references are available in books and google scholar too.

Thanks in advance and greetings
