Peer review limits

The guidelines for Wikipedia:Peer review ask that editors nominate no more than one article per day (and four total at any one time).     • If you have not already asked at WP:PRV, you can find editors there to review arts articles. Just leave a request on the talk page of a volunteer or two with a link to the articles at PR. If it does not get a review that way, after 4 days it goes on to the Wikipedia:Peer review/backlog/items list and should get a review eventually (possibly from me as I mostly review requests without a response) The current wait there is about 10-12 days. Sometime asking at WikiProject talk pages helps to get reviews too. Once it has been reviewed, try and fix the issues raised, then have someone look it over again - this can be another run through peer review, or an informal process (ask for comments on the article talk page). Both articles seem to be lists and would probably do better at WP:FLC than WP:FAC. I would look at the featured lists that are similar for ideas and models to follow, and would also watch some current FLC candidates to see what sorts of issues come up at FLC.       • I saw "List of awards..." and assumed it would qualify as a list for FLC and not FAC. Not so sure about the discography. In theory a peer review just helps improve articles for anything - the WP:MOS applies to lists as well as articles. If you think the article is more suited to FA, you might want to try to get GA with it first - see WP:GA. There's nothing to change to go from one process to the other. I see that a nomination hasn't been submitted to either process yet, so there will be no problem in submitting to FLC. • I saw your comment at the afd. Basically, the album article needs reliable, third-party sources, such as a newspaper article or an online review of some sort. The concept is certainly commendable, but without any sources beyond the station's own website, it's probably not worth an article. It was laid out in sections, with sources to outside articles from the New York Times, Mother Jones Magazine, and other reputable sources. They said it was some sort of company promotion, despite the fact that WAMM is not a company and I was not promoting them, just filling in the wikipedia community on WAMM. Album covers

Actually, I find album covers to be amongst the easiest uploads. Just a couple of simple guidelines;

• images can be found at artist sites, amazon.com, & many other web locations
• Size should be smaller than 500x500 pix
• file size should be 10-100 k
• when uploading image, the Wikipedia:Upload has a "The cover of an album or single" option - use it
  • The next choice should be the appropriate one - usually Wikipedia:Upload/Non-free album cover - "in an infobox about the album/single."
  • On the actual upload page pick a good file name (i.e. Foobar album cover.xxx) & be sure to input the information on the Fair Use area & pick "album cover" under the licensing options.
• Then just add the correct file name to the article page.

An example of what I'm talking about can be seen with File:A Piece of what you need Cover.jpg and A Piece of What You Need. Hope this helps. Skier Dude (talk) 01:52, 19 December 2008 (UTC)

Always tough to predict which articles will strike the collaboration chord, but always exciting when it works out. Strangely enough, the History of Oregon article hasn't gotten a whole lot of attention, but these more specific articles seem to generate more interest. Rufus discog

Sorry to hear that it was my objections that doomed the FLC. I stand by my complaints, and would also like to point out that I had some other comments to make once the bigger ones had been addressed. Since it seems you are pretty determined to get this list to FL status, I'd be happy to elaborate and help you out as best I can. My reasons for disliking the huge amount of references are stated pretty clearly in the FLC, but to elaborate a bit: sometimes less is more, especially when less can accomplish the same as more. Think about the end user, reading the list and wanting to find out more. As the list stands, they'd have to go to 100+ sources to get more info, and odds are they just wouldn't do that. On the other hand, if you present a couple of smartly-chosen general references, it presents a much more elegant and user-friendly option. Hope that clears things up. Also, keep in mind that I had issue with the 13 chart columns. The rationale for that complaint is similar: usability and presenting an indiscriminate amount of information. At a certain point, too much data just becomes unwieldy, and 10 is a good even number to go for. Additionally, 10 is a good number since on smaller monitors (1024x768, which is still what most people would view the page on), more than 10 columns starts to squeeze the table since it is too wide for the monitor to fit. So 10 isn't an arbitrary number we chose, there is some rationale behind it. Again, I'll hold off on the rest of my comments until we resolve these two. Hope my explanation helps. Definately looking better! 74 is a much more reasonable number. It's still more than most discogs, but I think that's ok just because he's done so much outside stuff. If you can find any other ways to keep streamlining things I'd still recommend doing that, but I think you're out of the danger zone for now. So, now I'll move onto my more nitpicky comments. Most of them are just based on past-precedent for FL discogs.

• You don't need the "—" for releases that didn't certify. Just leave those cells blank. As it is, it conflicts with the legend that explains what "—" means.

• The certification in the Video albums table doesn't match the studio albums (left-aligned).

Done.

• Also in video albums, the single chart column doesn't need a subheading, since it's the only column there. Try merging them into one heading such as "Peak US position" or something more eloquent than that.

Comment: I realize there is only one column, but I felt "Peak UK position" would be a long description for a single, narrow column. Is it possible the arrangement could be left the way it is now?

• ""Chelsea Hotel No. 2" + "In with the Ladies"" change the "+" to an "and".

• The Live albums table needs citations for the charts.

• ""—" denotes releases that did not chart" is a full sentence, so it needs a period.

• I don't know much about Rufus Wainwright and his output, but it looks as if a lot of the songs you put in the contributions section were songs that had already been released elsewhere, and that their appearance on soundtrack albums or whatever were just re-prints (so to speak) of old material. Per MOS:DISCOG, "Non-original or previously-released material used on soundtracks, trailers, commercials, or any other compilation releases" shouldn't be included. I'm not sure which songs in particular fit this description, but it looks to me as if there's a bunch. "California" and "Cigarettes and Chocolate Milk" pop out as just two that should go.

• I'm not sure an RSS feed is really that helpful or contextual for a discog article.

• Also, consider bolding the album titles in each of the tables. There's so much data in these tables, that I find it helps to draw attention to what all the data actually pertains to.

Look better and better. Here's a few more things I've noticed:

• "Non-album single" isn't a proper noun, so it shouldn't capitalized. Done.
• Why does the entry for Want say "Format: CD (UK)" Is that an important distinction to make? Same with the release date of Tiergarten. Comment: "Want" was released only in the UK (I moved this for format row to description. "Tiergarten" was also released in the UK, so I thought it was appropriate to note that next to the release date.
• The certification column in the Live albums table is blank, so you don't need it. Done.
• Alright, Already: Live in Montréal's entry says "U.S.", while the rest of the article says "US". Done.
• "Hallelujah"'s album should be "Shrek Original Soundtrack" or something like that. Done.
• "Sonnet 29 - When in Disgrace..." should use a – dash, not a hyphen. Done.
• The ref columns should be centered, as should the year columns. Done.
• "Also listed are many of his contributions to soundtracks, compilations, and albums released by other artists." This is kind of breaking the wall, and also avoiding summarizing the later half of the list. Also, it implies that it's not a complete list "many of his contributions". Something more definitive like "Wainwright has contributed to many soundtrack, comps, etc, such as ___ and ___." Or something like that. Drewcifer (talk) 04:54, 23 February 2009 (UTC) Done.

From my viewpoint, I think it will be best to just merge them IMO. Much of the info is repetitive and it really doesn't serve a purpose to have near duplicates of each other. Rufus Does Judy FAC

I'm pretty well ready to support, but I was waiting for a response to my concern about the extent of quotations in the "Critical reception" section. My feeling is that at least a couple of these, which don't use particularly striking language, could be paraphrased. The ones I had in mind were the second Stephen Holden quote (which is grammatically suspect, too), "an acquired taste" and "it would be unfair to hold that against him". The latter two are commonplace cliches which definitely don't need to be in quotes. Could you look at these, and ping me again when you've decided what to do. Hi there, I'm terribly sorry I spaced your question on my talk page about WikiProjects.

The short answer is, I understand some of the underlying technology, but by no means all of it. Various people have worked on various technical bits. The most technically advanced and long-term WP:ORE member is undoubtedly EncMstr (talk · contribs), but others like Aboutmovies, ZabMilenko, Zaui, Katr67, etc. have pitched in some cool tools along the way.

If you have specific questions about how things work, probably best to just ask them on the WikiProject Oregon talk page, as there's no telling who might be best equipped to answer any given question, but a number of us might give it a shot!

Editing SVGs

There's a free SVG editor called Raven at Aviary. You just have to create a free account and you're good to go. I checked the map you mentioned, and Raven won't have a problem with it. All the states except Nevada will show up gray, likely because it was the last one changed in a raw text editor. When you upload the file to Raven, choose the gradient tool - the second one from the bottom in your left-hand toolbar - and then click on whatever state you want to change. Then click on the color wheel on the far right (under the fill tab) and pick the color you want. The cannabis map is much simpler than the same-sex marriage map is at the moment. That map is so screwed up that I had to tear it apart in Adobe Illustrator to get it into an editable form. Newsboy85 (talk) 04:55, 21 May 2009 (UTC)

SVG map editing

First you should download the svg file, then download and install this program, Editix Lite [1]
Open the SVG image with this file. Find the line addressing the state you wish to change.
If the state is already colored, change the class="???" to whatever is appropriate
If the state is not already colored, add [class="???"] (without brackets) after where it says [id="??"].

Examples:
1- you want to change Missouri from grey to purple, you would add [class="both"] (without brackets) and the result would be [<path id="MO" class="both" d="...] (DISCLAIMER: DO NOT MODIFY THE d="..." part, as this would screw up the state outlines)
2- you want to change Mississippi to blue, you would find the Mississippi line and change class="decrim" to class="medical"

Map assistance

Left comments on the map update on the talk page. Anyway for the how-to. Firstly you will need to a) save the svg file to your computer. b) open it with a text editor. I'd recommend a simple program such as notepad/wordpad or similar. Avoid using complex programs such as Word since these tend to add a lot of junk code.

When you first open the file you will se a chunk of code which looks like:

		.both { fill: #cc00cc; }		/* State with both medical and decriminalization laws */

This is the part that decides which colour is used for medical, decriminalisation etc. To change medical to pink say you just replace .medical { fill: #3399ff; } with .medical { fill: #ff1493; }. To find the (hex)code for the different colours I recommend the article about Web colours.

The second part you encounter will looks something like:

		<path id="HI" class="medical" d="M 233.08751,519.30948 ..."/>
		<path id="AK" class="both" d="M 158.07671,453.67502 ..."/>
		<path id="FL" d="M 755.39728,445.50676..."/>

The fill="#d3d3d3" bit sets the default colour of the states. I.e. the colour used when there is no cannabis legislation.

Eatch state is described by one of the <path> lines and is identified by the two letter state abbreviation. To change e.g. florida to "legal medical cannabis" you first find the line with id="FL" and then insert class="medical" between id="FL" and d="... (see HI and AK above). Similarly to change it to decriminalisation it's class="decrim" and for both it's class="both". To change a state to no legislation simply remove the class="..." bit.

The edit you recently made to Oregon Medical Marijuana Act‎ removed date linking. Note that no final decision has been made whether date linking should be added or subtracted to articles; an injunction is in place prohibiting mass delinking of articles.
