And in a single sentence...not an easy thing to do. If I were in class (and I just got done teaching Beowulf ten minutes ago) I would use air quotes for "composition". On "minor" edits

Hi there and thanks for your work on the Avital Ronell entry! I wanted to give you a head's up that edits should only be marked "minor" if they could never be the subject of a dispute. So, fixing typos, italicizing a book title if someone forgot, that sort of thing. Otherwise err on the side of leaving them as regular ("major") edits--the reason it matters is that some editors filter their watchlist to exclude minor edits, trusting that a change marked minor requires no review. Hi, I have reverted your revision from yesterday (6 October 2019) as the old version, which said the manuscript "was produced between 975 and 1025" was correct based on the reference to Colin Chase's The dating of Beowulf (1997). It doesn't seem obvious to me that this passes the notability guideline for academics, especially with an obituary as the major source. The Blake Archive seems like his best claim to notability; I'm not sure it's sufficient, but more focus on that certainly wouldn't hurt.

@Moriwen::Thanks! I'll look for more sources to make the notability more clear. I was under the impression, perhaps from long ago, that full professorship at a research university was itself sufficient notability -- that is to say, because the tenure and promotion process establishes the importance of scholarship even in areas that may seem niche to an outsider, wikipedians ought to trust the judgment of the university committees that granted promoted him to tenure and to Full. That doesn't seem like a crazy argument but I don't think I see it reflected in WP:PROF, so I'm gonna guess it's one of those things that's changed over time.

@Moriwen: Ah, these things of course aren't set in stone - I should keep up with them a bit better I think! Thank goodness the endowed chair made the task easier (and always nice to celebrate a donor, I guess). Oh wow, thank you, I suppose it's always easier to be grumpy online as opposed to in person. Trying to assume good faith as regularly as I can! and super glad to hope that you find the various mystic pages I've worked on the most look a bit better than they did when I first came across them!
