its shameful

you know more than me that tevez is indigenous, look at his face, he is indigenous ! 41.249.95.118 (talk) 16:59, 1 April 2009 (UTC)

I don't get what you mean by shameful, that he may or may not be "indigenous"? (whatever you mean by that) To show his ancestry, you must supply verifiable reliable sources. -- Alexf(talk) 17:10, 1 April 2009 (UTC)

Nonprofit Connect

Hey, I noticed that the article was deleted because of a blatant copyvio. Can you help me get the code from before it was deleted so that I can remove the copyvios and repost the article? For the record, I wasn't the author and didn't put into the copyvio lines. OlYellerTalktome 02:52, 3 April 2009 (UTC)

OK. Userfied at User:OlYeller21/Nonprofit Connect. Good luck. -- Alexf(talk) 10:51, 3 April 2009 (UTC)
Hey, thanks for the help. For this and future reference, is there a good place to compare 2 urls for similar text? For instance, it would be very helpful to be able to enter both address into a website and have it return the sections that are a copyvio. I'm not even sure if something like that exists. I'm having trouble finding the exact copyvio lines in this article.OlYellerTalktome 13:48, 3 April 2009 (UTC)
I just found www.plagiarismdetect.com so nevermind unless you know of a better one. Also, I found the copyvio info. Thanks again. OlYellerTalktome 13:59, 3 April 2009 (UTC)

Pete Rodríguez

Do you mind sharing exactly what the content of Pete Rodríguez was before it was deleted? There are three people with that name, two of whom already have established articles located at different titles. Since two are both Latin musicians it's quite a confusing title, and I'm trying to establish if anything's been written about the third. Bigbluefish (talk) 18:14, 3 April 2009 (UTC)

It said: "Pete Rodríguez was a Boogaloo singer." and then it listed some recordings. No references, no DOB, or any other information whatsoever. Hope this helps. -- Alexf(talk) 18:16, 3 April 2009 (UTC)
Ah, fair enough - that's the third man though. One of his songs has been played before almost every third motion picture in the UK for years, so I think I'll have a go at recreating an article from scratch. Bigbluefish (talk) 18:30, 3 April 2009 (UTC)

Barton Beebe

Hey - I noticed that you deleted Barton Beebe because there was "[n]o indication that the article may meet guidelines for inclusion: db-"Beebe is not notable other than being the son in law of Indian prime minister, which unfortunately is not enough reason to qualify for a wiki article."

While I agree that being the son in law of the Indian prime minister is hardly notable, the reason I included him in Wikipedia is because he's a law professor at the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law and he's a very well known intellectual property professor. According to Wikipedia:Notability (academics), one of the ways of establishing notability is that "The person is or has been an editor-in-chief of a major well-established journal in their subject area." According to his profile, he was actually a senior editor of The Yale Law Journal and an articles editor of Yale Journal of Law & the Humanities, and a Whiting Fellow in the Humanities in the English Department of Princeton University. He's also very well known in the trademark and copyright field, which would qualify him for someone whose "research has made significant impact in their scholarly discipline, broadly construed, as demonstrated by independent reliable sources." He's appeared in numerous law journals for this topic.[1][2][3]

For those reasons, I think he's notable. Please let me know if you think the same, and if not, why not. Thanks a lot. GoCuse44 (talk) 16:08, 7 April 2009 (UTC)

RE: Recent block...

The IP you just blocked (76.171.248.246 (talk · contribs)) just now signed out of his ID... he also uses the usernames HipHopfan4life (talk · contribs) and Flo Rida's Biggest Fan (talk · contribs), if you could do something about those IDs also, please... thank you... - Adolphus79 (talk) 19:38, 7 April 2009 (UTC)

I had just noticed that when you mentioned it but I'm at work and have just been called for a meeting. Please report him/them to ANI as something's fishy. Obviously a sock case, with an account redirection but the older account did comments on the newer account so they seem to be "talking to themselves". Thanks for reporting it. Will try to look late tonight but you'll get better/faster response at ANI. -- Alexf(talk) 19:45, 7 April 2009 (UTC)

Lionel Messi

Yes, I completely agree. However, I've noticed a tendency in footballer's articles to leave the most recent "play by play" material until it becomes stale enough to remove. For example, if we removed Messi's two goals from yesterday right now, we could guarantee that some poor soul will put it back in later this afternoon. My approach is to leave the most recent stuff but reduce and reference it, making note of any real pertinent information (such as his Champions League goal record). This makes for better writing and sourcing when we come to write a concise overview of the season. Sadly, no newspapers I know of give a detailed summary of season's achievements (for either clubs or players), thus this piecemeal approach not only reduces unnecessary revisions and reversions but it also helps identify key aspects of the season. However, this is just one of many possible approaches. I hope I've given you something to think about. Sillyfolkboy (talk) 15:04, 9 April 2009 (UTC)

You have. I normally revert as 'sports commentary' but I see your point. -- Alexf(talk) 15:12, 9 April 2009 (UTC)

Deletion of Preco page

Good morning Alexf! My inquiry is about the deletion of the page for Preco/Preco Electronics Inc. The page was primarily about the company, but most company pages are. There is significance to Preco in that the first reverse-motion/back up alarm was created and marketed by Preco Electronics. As a company currently doing business globally and headquartered in the Boise, ID area for 62 years, I believe there is great significance to a lot of people--including those not directly connected to the company. The company has been very active in the community over the course of its existence--a fact that I was planning to add in the future. I was mainly trying to get a starting point to modify as I gather information. My apologies for my abject failure. I humbly request to have the page undeleted. Thank you! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.114.236.233 (talk) 16:32, 9 April 2009 (UTC)

I reviewed the deletion and it is entirely correct as A7 ("An article about an organization that does not indicate why its subject is important or significant."). Note that it does not say it is not important, but that it was not shown. You said there is significance to Preco. We don't go by "significance" but by notability, shown by posting reliable sources. Please read the rules about companies to see the specifics of what is required. As for undeletion, it is possible to userfy the article but not to an IP address,so you might consider registering. -- Alexf(talk) 16:50, 9 April 2009 (UTC)

Ben Harper and Relentless7

I am not the originator of this article, and I have a bias, as the bass player is a friend. However, I believe that Mr. Harper, a two-time Grammy winner with three gold records, is sufficiently notable that his new band, with a major label (Virgin) CD scheduled for a May 5, 2009 release, meets the notability guideline. I didn't see the original article, so I don't know if its quality and/or sources were considered insufficient, but Relentless7 is embarking on a worldwide tour that is selling out pretty consistently. If you don't believe they are sufficiently notable at this juncture, will you consider undeleting the article when the CD is released?Carlaclaws (talk) 01:31, 15 April 2009 (UTC)

Also, Ben Harper and Relentless7 just played at David Lynch's benefit concert, Change Begins Within, at Radio City Music Hall on April 4th. The band has the associations, the major label, the venues, the contract, the press, and its leader is indisputably notable.Carlaclaws (talk) 23:16, 15 April 2009 (UTC)
OK, I've found a few links that might help: Rolling Stone. Also, as of April 15th, their as-yet-unreleased album, "White Lies for Dark Times," is ranked #564 overall on Amazon.com, and #20 in the blues category based on pre-sales alone. [4]. Since I never saw the article, I don't know if it was rejected because it failed to assert notability, or because you didn't think the band was sufficiently notable even with sources.Carlaclaws (talk) 23:35, 15 April 2009 (UTC)
It would help if you pointed to the page name as requested in Item #1 on the edit view of this page. I checked for Harper and for Relentess within the past 500 deletions, and did not find it. Honestly I've no idea what article you are talking about. For you it may be fresh info, for me, I delete hundreds a week as part of my duties. No way I can remember every article. And without a red link, I can't check and or undelete. Please help me here so I can help you. -- Alexf(talk) 23:58, 15 April 2009 (UTC)
OK, sorry about that. The article was simply called Relentless 7. Correctly, they are Relentless7.Carlaclaws (talk) 21:16, 16 April 2009 (UTC)
...and, BTW, their pre-sale CD's rank today at 5:25 EDT on Amazon is #292 in the overall music category, #7 in the blues category[5]. (Update: at 11:14 p.m. EDT on 4/16 its ranking on Amazon music was #183, #3 in the Blues category[6].) But I know these things are fleeting, and I have no idea what rank would be required, for what time period, before someone is considered notable. Thanks.Carlaclaws (talk) 21:24, 16 April 2009 (UTC)
I found another interesting citation; don't know if it is acceptable, though. It's Rolling Stone's Spring Music Preview: Inside 45 of the Year's Biggest Albums. Relentless7's album is featured alongside those of Neil Young, Eminem, Bob Dylan, 50 Cent, Dave Matthews Band, Lil Wayne, Black Eyed Peas, Elvis Costello, Depeche Mode, Steve Earle, Green Day, the Jonas Brothers, Mos Def, Bob Mould, Willie Nelson, the New York Dolls, Sonic Youth, and Allen Toussaint, among others. I am not suggesting that these associations confer notability, only that inclusion in this Rolling Stone feature may have more weight than just a casual blurb.
Also, Relentless7 performed alone and with Ringo Starr and Donovan at David Lynch's Change Begins Within (yeah, OK, I know, a benefit) concert[7]. I will try to find some more sources to support notability.Carlaclaws (talk) 22:04, 16 April 2009 (UTC)
OK, I don't know how much of this is useful in supporting notability, but according to Relentless7's Website and the Websites of the venues, they have sold out the following headline concerts: Variety Playhouse in Atlanta[8] on 5/2; 9:30 club[9] in Washington (5/4, sold out even before it was announced); Phoenix Concert Theatre[10] in Toronto (5/13); the Fillmore in S.F.[11] (5/27); Webster Hall [12] in N.Y.C.; the Vic Theatre[13] in Chicago (5/16), and Sydney Metro theatre in Australia[14], among others. All of these venues are sufficiently notable to have Wikipedia entries.
They are also playing: The HMV Forum[15] in London (headlining); Madison Square Garden (an ensemble performance for Pete Seeger's b'day, sold out); South by Southwest Festival (OK, so this one's not on Wikipedia radar yet); Le Printemps de Bourges in France[16] (sold out); New Orleans Jazz Festival; Beale St. Jazz Festival, and several other venues in the U.S., Canada, Europe, and Australia. Also, I assume there is no issue with the leader's notability, having had seven albums peak in the top 100 of the Billboard Top 200. Harper's last two albums peaked at #9 and #7[17]. As I mentioned before (with sources, see above), also, 2 Grammys and 3 RIAA golds. What might also help, since the band is new, is that all of the members (Jason Mozersky, Jesse Ingalls, and Jordan Richardson) also performed with Harper on his "Both Sides of the Gun" album which peaked at #7 on Billboard[18]. I'm having trouble finding a suitable source for the personnel, but here's the "Credits" page from Barnes and Noble[19] - and an interview from Guitar Player Online Edition[20]).
What I'm not finding, however, is links to full-length feature articles about the band. I found this one PBS link: [21], and this Austin Chronicle one[22] as well as the others I've listed, but the longest are only 5-6 paragraphs or so. I'll try to find some more later. Thanks for reconsidering.Carlaclaws (talk) 22:35, 16 April 2009 (UTC)
Well, I've performed an exhaustive search, and I am unable to come up with any full-length feature articles (more than 5-6 paragraphs) about the band. Perhaps this is because the album is not yet out. If what I have posted isn't sufficient, I guess I'll wait until after the 5/5 release to appeal again. If you reject the article again based on what I've provided, will it probably be speedy deleted again if I try again after the release and a few reviews are published? If you think so, I won't bother. Thanks.Carlaclaws (talk) 02:50, 17 April 2009 (UTC)
You did not have to show so much info here or prove to me their notability. Notability for bands is defined at WP:BAND. No wonder I could not remember the article. It was deleted back in November 2008. I have userfied it to User:Carlaclaws/Relentless7 for you to work on and add all this info. Good luck. -- Alexf(talk) 12:07, 17 April 2009 (UTC)
Thanks so much for your consideration. I didn't think Harper could've failed notability, but I thought the band might have been considered to be lacking sufficient notability to merit their own page, even by WP:BAND, until the album came out. I thought I'd better provide a solid basis, esp. since I thought I remembered that the article was "speedy deleted" before. Personally, I believe that if a band generates this much hype before their first release, they MUST be notable, but I can easily see the other side.
If this crops up again as a problem, I believe I can document that all of the other members beside Harper have been part of bands that are considered noteworthy according to WP:BAND.Carlaclaws (talk) 03:40, 18 April 2009 (UTC)

Deletion of Golf Course Environment Awards

Hi Axelf,

I have read through all of your tips and other information and am still unsure why the page 'Golf Course Environment Awards' and associated links has been deleted. I believe the program is very valuable and significant for the golf and environment industries and is totally non-commercial. It is a new program and hence not well linked to other sites etc.. Please could you tell me what sort of content you believe would justify its re-instatement?

Thanks

"valuable and significant" are not meaningful conditions for Wikipedia. Notable and verifiable are. Please read WP:ORG and and about reliable sources to get an idea of what the requirements are. -- Alexf(talk) 11:37, 23 April 2009 (UTC)

Deletion of MediaRing Limited

Hi,

I would like to check with you, why was the article page of MediaRing Limited being deleted? We were just trying to log MediaRing Limited (Company info) into Wikipedia for reference.

Can you also please provide me with the content of the deleted page as i did not make a back-up of it.

Thank you. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Kpatel72 (talkcontribs) 06:09, 23 April 2009 (UTC)

The article was deleted, as it states, as G11 (Advertising or promotion). In no place it asserted notability as required by WP:COMPANY and it had no reliable sources shown to verify. Article has been userfied to User:Kpatel72/MediaRing Limited. Good luck. -- Alexf(talk) 11:48, 23 April 2009 (UTC)

deletion Jeús Algovi, request to judge if you agree about notability

Fray diego (talk) 07:59, 23 April 2009 (UTC)

hi

you deleted or agreed that my try to insert a contemporaneous artist (Spanish, Andalusian) should be deleted ... (¡no red link available, neither page deletion log! anyway you would not need to have another look, was a basic try and I understand that only consistent articles should be posted)

that I write you is not to complain, but just to know how to put some locally (where local is the Andalusian/Spanish area) known artists ...

being professional in contemporaneous Spanish art, I do not have time to start research (WILLING TO PUT WHAT I HAVE AND KNOW) on the work of Jesús Algovi, José María Larrondo or Fernando Millan (and there are more) all artists I am convinced should be in wikipedia (as well the English as the Spanish version. not being Spanish I decided to start in English, this done the articles will be translated in Spanish and put into the Spanish version ...)

so now, not to spend more of your time I add some data of Jesús and I would ask you to put a glance and tell me if you agree that this artist is adequate to be added to the wikipedia, then I will elaborate an article, get the rights of the artist to put pictures of several key works and so on ...

here are the data:

The article had no notability proof, no sources of any kind. Was just a one-liner stating he is an artist from Spain and his DOB. Please read BIO and specifically CREATIVE, plus YFA to get an idea of what the Wikipedia requirements are. Also please do not post these long lists on a user's Talk page. These belong in an article. User Talk is to convey your meaning in a short and concise manner. Good luck with the article. -- Alexf(talk) 12:04, 23 April 2009 (UTC)

Deletion of Gary Muir page

Here some reading about Gary Muir.

You deleted his page in October 2008, because you said he played only 1 games in a semi-professional league. Since then he has been a regular 1st team player scoring 8 goals. So can you please put back on the page.

old tags

Those are old deletion tags, i'm in the process of rv'ing them and migrating these properly into userspace. –xeno talk 17:55, 24 April 2009 (UTC)

Oh. I see. I misread the idea. Sorry. -- Alexf(talk) 17:56, 24 April 2009 (UTC)

Pagemove

Hi mate, Víctor Figueroa was recently created which is an inaccurate duplicate of the much older and more complete article Victor Figueroa which is located at the wrong name (missing accent). All the relevant content (basically 2 external links) from the new article has now been transferred to the original, and I was wondering whether you could delete the duplicate and then pagemove the original over it as per the comments on Talk:Víctor Figueroa. I'd do it myself but it seems that I'm still not admin material (maybe in another 43,000 edits eh?) King of the North East 01:26, 25 April 2009 (UTC)

It would help if I knew what you were talking about. Is this a deleted page? If it is, would you please follow the instructions at the top of the edit dialog page and provide a red link to it as requested? -- Alexf(talk) 11:13, 27 April 2009 (UTC)

How was it vandalism?

How was it vandalism?

And how could i fix it?

Without reading all of that stuff.

You copied the speedy deletion tag into a talk page. Please don't do that. The article was deleted because it did not show notability under WP:BAND. Please read that page to understand what the requirements are. Regards. -- Alexf(talk) 13:11, 27 April 2009 (UTC)
