Real Girl, known in Japan as 3D Kanojo Real Girl, is an anime series adapted from the manga of the same title by Mao Nanami. Produced by Hoods Entertainment and directed by Naoya Takashi, the series follows the adventures of an otaku teenager named Hikaru Tsutsui, who befriends his fellow classmate Iroha Igarashi and falls in love with her.
The first season initially ran from April 4 to June 20, 2018 on Nippon TV, and was released on Blu-ray/DVD in four compilations, each containing one disc with three episodes, by VAP between June 27 and September 26, 2018.[1][2][3][4] Sentai Filmworks licensed the anime for an English-language release in North America and simulcasted it on Hidive as it aired in Japan.[5] In July 2018, Sentai Filmworks announced plans to record an English-language dub for the series.[6] The dub is scheduled to begin streaming on October 30, 2018.[7]
Two pieces of theme music are used: an opening theme and an ending theme. The opening theme is "Daiji na Koto" (だいじなこと, Important Thing) by Quruli and the ending theme is "HiDE the BLUE" by BiSH.[8]

| Teenager Hikari Tsutsui is an unpopular otaku, with his only friend being the oddball and likewise otaku Yūto Itō. As punishment for being late, Hikari is made to clean the school pool, where he encounters the school's beauty Iroha Igarashi, a girl famous for her lousy behaviour and lack of friends. Despite being determined to avoid Iroha, he's attracted to him, especially after she stands up for him against his fellow classmates who mock him. Despite watching her two-time a pair of guys and embarrass him by asking him out in public, Hikari decides to be her friend and stands up for her as well. The next day, Hikari accidentally catches a cold from Iroha accidentally dragging him into the pool during their punishment together, but insists on coming to school anyways, arriving late. Iroha is late too, but this time on purpose to see him, whereupon she kisses Hikari and offers to clean the school pool alone. | |||

| Hikari estranges himself from Iroha because he is unable to confess his feelings for her. During gym practice, Hikari rescues fellow student Arisa Ishino after she slips on a banana peel, but is quickly spurned. Once again depressed, Hikari seeks Arisa's advice on how to pursue his relationship, as she also has a boyfriend. That evening, Arisa tries to cut Hikari's hair, but Iroha intervenes. After reconciling with Iroha, Hikari and Kie watch the cooking show Patissier Prince. | |||
