Recently I decided to become a Wikipedian.

My user page is UNDER CONSTRUCTION!!!

This is Version 0.1 dd September 20, 2009 of my userpage. Version 0.1 describes:

  • My MOTIVATION to become a Wikipedian.
See my Vision, Mision and Value statements
  • My aimed CONTRIBUTION to Wikipedia.
See my Provide and Share Program

I kindly invite you to comment on:

  • my Vision and Mission
  • my choice for Wikipedia as a tool to suceed in my mission
  • my Provide and Share program and the scope of its articles.

About me edit

I am a retired chemical engineer with a long-time experience in large scale industrial bioprocessing.

I learned that people don’t care what I know, but they only care what I learned.

So I will tell you now!

What I have learned: edit

  • to understand and develop DownStream bioProcesses (DSP) for isolation and purification of products from fermentation broth. (see also Downstream (bioprocess))
  • to implement Downstream Processes on plant scale.
  • to start-up new processes and/or facilities (both fermentation and DSP).
  • to design complete large scale indystrial bioprocess facilities.
  • to manage projects for all of the above activities.

My Vision edit

  • Biotech products that contribute to a better society by being competitive in the market with respect to price, quality, environmental and human safety and time of delivery.
  • Bioprocess know-how which is free, secure and of high quality.
  • Biotech and bioprocess professionals collaborating jointly in their companies all around the world in developing new biotech-products and/or new/improved processes for existing products using free, open source knowhow.
  • Biotech and bioprocess professionals who enjoy their profession, are continuously improving and seek to educate the young generation.

My Mission edit

To provide to and to share with professionals and students al around the world (in the field of Industrial Large scale Biotechnology and Bioprocessing) personal experience and know-how on process development, engineering and manufacturing. In particular my own experiences and know-how which I have gathered during my 25-year carrier in the field of industrial biotechnology and Bioprocessing.

note: Ofcoarse I will not share any know-how and experiences related specifically to products and/or production processes owned by my former employers and/or their partners/clients. I will limit myself to only share my personal know-how and experiences when it is based on- and/or drived from information available in the public domain.

My Core Values edit

  • Honesty and transparency. No hidden objectives!
  • Share open source know-how, help my human fellows and tell them I may have valuable information.
  • Use know-how and information to improve society, not to gain power.
  • Earn just sufficient to enjoy life. Share excess profit with your human fellows.
  • Mondial Health safety and environment.

Choice for Wikipedia edit

I have joint Wikpipedia because I believe Wikipedia can be an effective and efficient platform to realize a substantial part of my mission. In particular Wikipedia can be of large importance in the realization of projects in my Provide and Share program. Therfore I joined the Wikipedia:WikiProject Chemical and Bio Engineering.

Provide and Share Program edit

My "provide and share" program has projects for (contribution to Wikipedia) articles on a number of process steps and/or Unit Operations for (large) industrial scale bio-process DownStreamProcessing.

The scope of each article is to provide and share enough know-how and experiences to enable the design ( main dimensions and capacity) of the process step or unit operation.

The know-how will be based on public domain first principle theories in the fields of:

  • transport phenomena
  • chemistry
  • thermodynamics
  • substance properties

The experiences reflect learning points with the application of the first principles and the set-up of experiments to obtain the required numerical values required to apply the first principle theories.

The projects which are currently in my Provide ans Share program are realted to the following unit operations and/or process steps:

distillation edit

biomass isolation/removal by cake filtration edit

biomass removal/isolation by sedimentation edit

concentration and purification by liquid-liquid extraction edit

concentration by evaporation edit

concentration and purification by membrane filtration edit
