Hello 👋

The Nookster is my nickname and I am over the moon to be a Wikipedian.

Introduction edit

I realised being a writer I would probably never earn enough to donate in money what I owe this amazing online community and largest and most-read reference work on the planet.[1] Wikipedia has played a major part in forming innumerable new neural networks in my brain. I am half human half Wikipedia. And for that I am truly thankful.

I wish I could donate more money than I do. Maybe one day I will. Fingers crossed.

Until then I want to support Wikipedia and its many offshoots from the Wikimedia Foundation in its truly noble goal of making knowledge free for every human forever.

Literally yours, Nikki 🤓

Writing and Editing edit

The dictionary was my favourite book as a kid. It still is as an adult. Truth be told.

Wikipedia is my favourite website as an adult.

After reading so much on here, I aim to write as much as I can. By volunteering my skills and contributing my time and words as well as money to one of the zeniths of humanity.

In my editing, I’ll aim to make most sentences have a point, seek key sources in the appropriate context and sit specific information into the broader relevance of the topic. And hopefully divine the killer points required to make Wikipedia’s purpose as a reference tool the best there is by a furlong mile.

All done as best as possible in Wikipedia’s refreshingly concise and neutral style.

For the record, I am interested in everything.

Specifically: the English language, contemporary fiction, archaeology, history, comedy, art, photography, illustration, classical civilisations, Real Lancashire, the colour green, yoga, sports, The Lake District, and snow globes to name but a few…

In summary: I am a surface skimmer then suddenly I'll take a deep dive into a subject that captures my attention.

I feel honoured to be part of such an incredible knowledge gathering project. Totes over the moon!

Nutshell Quote edit

Indeed, the purpose of an encyclopedia is to collect knowledge disseminated around the globe; to set forth its general system to the men with whom we live, and transmit it to those who will come after us, so that the work of preceding centuries will not become useless to the centuries to come; and so that our offspring, becoming better instructed, will at the same time become more virtuous and happy, and that we should not die without having rendered a service to the human race in the future years to come.
