    • Keogh says Dev got it from Gregg from the Council of Trent decrees,[1] but the complete text doesn't have that formula; it was actually the Tridentine profession of faith. "The decrees of the Council of Trent contain no profession, but in the twenty-fourth session such a form was suggested. This was prepared by a commission of cardinals under the direction of Pius IV. in 1564."[2] The profession includes Latin: "Sanctam, catholicam et apostolicam Romanam Ecclesiam omnium ecclesiarum matrem et magistram agnosco", translated by various forms similar to "I acknowledge the Holy, Catholic, Apostolic and Roman Church, the mother and mistress of all the Churches".[3]
