Iroko(Fully: E-ro-ko-ko(Disagreement of opinion) IROKO is a sleepy Town situated about 21 kilometres from Ibadan, the Oyo State capital and less than 15 kilometres to the ancient town of Oyo. According to history, its existence predates some of the prominent towns in the present Yoruba states and its first king wore the traditional and original beaded crown in 1906.The incumbent Oniroko is OBA ISMAIL OLASUNKANMI ABIOYE OPEOLA (KURUNLOJU 1)ONIROKO OF IROKOLAND
HISTORY
IROKO was established in the late 17th century by a PRINCE and GREAT HUNTER NAMED "OYENIYA". OYENIYA was a Prince from Orile Ake, when Orile Ake collapse every residents of Orile Ake had to leave to seek Refuge from neighbouring Towns.So OYENIYA also called upon his people and all agreed on date to leave Orile Ake,But on the exact date all of his people had changed there mind not to leave Orile Ake with him. He was painful to him but he had to leave with his wife and children.
Iroko land comprise of 26 other villages namely; Akinkunmi, Akingbade, Igbinsola, Motunde, Okewole, Fakore, Oretu, Olowogbo, Oloya, Olode (Fanto), Molade, Dakeja, Ojerinde, Arikanki, Agbii, Igbagbo Taiwo, Igbagbo Adebowale, Onisigun, Popoola, Fagbenro, Ogundele, Olowola, Oloro, Yeosa, Abatan and Tegiri.
