Hello, and welcome to my user page! My username is Cyclone of Foxes and I am currently an active editor in Wikipedia. My main field for editing as of now is meteorology. In fact, I am almost always editing hurricane season articles. My status in Wikipedia is Signator, as I've done around 83 edits and been around since May 27. My interests are astronomy, meteorology, and linguistics.

Origins edit

My history of editing in Wikipedia dates a long time ago. Back when I was in the fourth grade, my teacher at the time made us do an essay. Nothing out of the ordinary. I was a very curious student, but always behaving. The teacher said for us to go and look up sources for our essay on recycling and she said not to use Wikipedia, as it could be edited to be false information. I just sat quietly in the classroom thinking, "What in the world is Wikipedia?" So, I was intending on just following instructions and not using Wikipedia on the essay. However, the curious side of me got ahold of me, and I ended up looking up Wikipedia and saw the screen you usually see. I was cruising around on Wikipedia not editing, since I didn't know how to, and where I should. 2016 rolls around and I take an interest in hurricane seasons, and I went crazy interested. Seven years later, I'm still very interested. So, I start looking up further info and looked up the season, a Wikipedia result was the first one. I clicked on it and scrolled down and saw Hurricane Otto, and it's current storm information. Now, I had figured out where I wanted to edit the most and just needed to know how. I couldn't figure it out, and by the time December rolled by, I kind of forgot about my main source of meteorology info, the NHC. 2017 rolls by, and a video reminds me of the NHC, and so I go there right away remembering the times I had there, turns out the same day Hurricane Harvey made landfall in Texas. Then, I went onto Wikipedia and tried editing, and surprisingly, it took me until January of 2018 to figure it out. I clicked on the pencil icon and I didn't know how to make an account and I click edit without signing in. Then it says my IP address would be visible so I immediately leave thinking I could get in trouble, I was 11 after all. I forgot about it and May 24th comes and me and my friend go to the NHC and see a disturbance in the Gulf, we place a bet on each other with no reward nor repercussion, and I won as the system developed into Subtropical Storm Alberto on May 25. Later that day, I went home from school and went onto Wikipedia, and faced my fear and edited the site marking my very first edit around mid-day on May 27. I spent the next month or so as an anonymous IP user and I was planning on making an account around December 2018 or January 2019, but as you can see, it happened sooner. There were several reasons why I was planning on making an account, the benefits, I would get caught one day if I stayed as an IP, among others. Then, one extra reason kickstarted my account's creation. On July 4, 2018, I went to the 2018 Pacific Hurricane Season page to start editing and then I found out an administrator had semiprotected the page from IP users for a week for disruptive editing. Annoyed by this, I try making an account on July 4th to cut off 3 days of waiting. Disruptions to the plan happened and I had to wait until July 5th. Then, it was bedtime, so I spoke to my siblings about it and throughout the night, came up with a username and password. And at around 15:00 UTC July 5th, 2018, I made this account. And yes, I finished the essay without Wikipedia and got a 100%, never figured out why they didn't allow me to use Wikipedia.
